    HI LEO!!
    /wave

[EDIT]And it's nice to hear you and hubby are doing well. It's awesome, you're a teacher. I still want to learn Japanese myself but I think I'm too lazy
  2. And with all those toggles and PBAoE buff and debuffs, it'd most likely have high endurance costs. So perhaps the inherent of this AT could have something to do with endurance. Perhaps an aggro-less aura that gives you a endurance discount per foe up to 10 foes (a buff that depends on teammates would have the same difficulties as Defenders).

But that suggestion aside, Doms have the same issue of needing active defense and doing damage and they do just fine. Protecting the team (or yourself) isn't a hindrance, IMO, it's a gift that all ATs don't have the luxury of having. A melee scrapper can't do much to aid the team outside of control heavy primary/secondary sets and is their weakness. A melee-ish/(de)buff AT would just have the weakness of doing less damage than a Scrapper but helping the team better. Compared to Blasters, they'd have better self protection through controls/(de)buffs/heals.

That's just my thoughts on such an AT if done similar to my idea. I can see it going other ways too.

I heard that your biggest and most powerful muscles are in your butt, so maybe you crouch for extra power not just from your arms but your legs too?

I'm saying it's exactly how it was suppose to be, a set with duplicate effects as Katana and an Assassination attack that isn't horrible but isn't super amazing either.

*imagines Assassin's Cleave for Battle Axe*

Ahh, now that's an Assassin's Strike....

No it's not, check the video in my 2nd post.

PS: Claw's AS animation has you crouch low with one claw behind and above your character then sink that claw into the foe, ripping it out then holding that stance. MA's doesn't have a crouch.

    Sssssooooo.

Ha, what are ya doing in Japan anyway?

I always wonder what happened to the 'old gang' that blew up the RP boards. Every now and then I peek in but only recognize Devious.
  7. Assassin's Blow/Slash video courtesy of Aisynia.

I still don't understand the weakness of BS's animations. I look at Assassin's Slash and I see Assassin's Poke. It lacks that visceral ruthlessness of animations like Assassin's Claw where you stab then rip the claw out while spilling the victim's insides on the floor.
  8. Unfortunately, the only new powers Stalkers will get are those within the Broadsword set (no new PPP powers).

From discussion on the test boards, I also learned that no, Broadsword is a duplicate of Ninja Blade and not unique in any way. No replacing parry with whirling sword or whatever. It's the same line-up as NB. And although Broadsword's AS is named Assassin's Slash, it is still an impale/stab animation.

Good news though: Martial Arts gets an alternate animation for its Assassin's Blow attack. It's called Fist of Annihilation and your character leans back, draws back his right arm while the left arm is out infront of you followed by you striking the foe with a flat-palmed punch with the right. Someone else described it as Practiced Brawler followed by a punch.

Also, Spines get thorn, metal, crystal and slate custom options along with color customization so go out and make some spines stalkers!
  9. Hmm, lvl 28 bank mission (IP bank I believe). I was on my (non slotted except the attacks) EM/EA stalker. There were 2 MMs, a brute, a dom and a [EDIT]SoA(not a corruptor, he had Assault Rifle and I always get it mixed with corruptor).

It wasn't so much 'me' going into scrapperlock but the team. I'm always in control and don't consider what I do 'scrapperlocking'. Anyway, I loaded pretty slow so when I popped in, everyone but the dom and brute were in the bank. By the time I got to the brute to help, he face planted. I quickly followed afterwards cause I couldn't SJ away (glue grenades or whatever).

I don't know what happened but everyone in the bank died and went to jail. Me being the sneaky stalker I am, used an awake+breakfree and insta-hide so I didn't get rekilled. Something happened with the hero in the bank and didn't charge the jail. From there, everyone was dying > jailing while looking all over the map for the hero. Some were destroying stuff, some were fighting everything in their path, some were singling out Longbow flying about. Me? I performed a flawless solo kidnapping. I couldn't have done it without the team though, as we were running low on time. Destroying stuff and PPD got me the time to get the side job done and score us another 8min.

Eventually, at the 5min mark, someone finally found the hero flying *waaaaaaay* up in the air and we grounded him and took him out.

I felt like a villain team there despite the rough execution of the mission.

No easier than Martial Arts would have been or even Broadsword.

You underestimate the amount of feedback the devs use for their updates.

    Range-Armor or Armor-Range (Ranged Tanker)
Just thought of something. Yeah, a tanker with ranged blasts may not be balanced (i.e. Tankmage), BUT what if...what if it was modeled after a true tank (the actual weapon/vehicle)? High damage, invulnerable but low maneuverability.

They'd get Armor as their primary with Brute HP and Scrapper/Stalker mitigation caps. They'd have Dom lvl ranged damage. Their Secondary would be Bomb sets. Unlike normal blast sets, they get 2 new attacks in their set:

    [Example:] Energy Bombardment-
    1. Power Bolt
    2. Power Blast
    3. Energy Stream (80ft ranged, ST, high energy damage DoT, low smashing damage, foe knockback, 2sec interruptible period)
    4. Sniper Blast
    5. Aim
    6. Power Burst
    7. Energy Torrent
    8. Destroyer Beam (80ft range, narrow cone, energy/smashing DoT, foe knockback, 4 sec interruptible period)
    9. Nova

The Inherent would be something like 'Buckle Down' or 'Charging Stance' which would improve damage capability while you blast and stay still. You move and you lose the buff and have to build it again.

Now, what hero/villain in comics/movies/anime/manga/sci-fi does this AT fit...none that I can think of...sounds like a different AT playstyle that might be fun =P
  12. Eh, the way I see it: if Tankers and Scrappers didn't already have Conserve Power in their Body Mastery EPP, their Electric armor proliferation would be a straight port.
  13. Scrapper/Tanker/Brute sweep combo is 1k Cuts > Power Slice > Typhoon Edge so a stalker can't try to do their version of Sweep because we lack Typhoon Edge.

Stalker DB's Sweep Combo is BU > Assassin's Blades > Ablating Strike. The simple way to think of how the combos work is the effect of the combo is attached to the last power in a combo which will trigger when 3 other attacks are made in sequence.

Putting a proc in a combo ending attack isn't an issue for Scrapper/Tanker/Brute because pretty much every combo ends in a PBAoE or a cone. Stalker is the only one to have a PBAoE effect attached to a ST attack.

And yes, currently the proc has a chance to go off in a PBAoE (auto hit as well) everytime you use Ablating. For reference, I was told about this quirk on the forums (can't remember who now) and quickly went out to buy an Achilles heel proc for my DB/Nin, found a mass of gray/green Scrappyarders and just throw out Ablating. A little -res orange shield icon thingy would appear on a random enemies around me that I didn't hit (sometimes more than one). The defense debuff of the attack only affects the foe you target but procs work in a PBAoE. Now an interesting test is if a proc would test twice in that attack, one for the PBAoE and again for the ST.
  14. The problem is all the placating we do negates the aggro of any petitions we make. You'd have to Assassin's Post Castle after Buildup+saturated Against All Odds to get anyone's attention. But Stalkers will never get Shield Defense to pull it off T_T

You had ET and TF, you say? Hmmm, yet another case of EM making someone hate the secondary they paired it with. Just like me and FA. Interesting.
Well, I'm playing an EM/EA stalker and he's quite strong. He uses Stun too, mostly to drop toggles or to stack on bosses. The only issue with him is ET that doesn't crit will slowly kill me. I do more damage to myself than the enemies usually do.

Anyway, I'm planning to make a Claws/EA brute. Got the costume saved, the name reserved and just waiting on i16 to come out. As a Claws/EA stalker, he's ridiculously scrappy and the attacks are so cheap and fast I'm almost afraid to unleash him on the server.

He'll be my 1st in-game werewolf (yeah, seriously...I never made a werewolf) and he looks downright fierce!

A Ninja Assault set using a Katana for the melee attacks and a Bow for the ranged attacks would probably solve any issues with wanting to have the Tsoo variety attacks. Shuriken type attacks would probably be reserved for a Martial Arts Assault set that uses MA for Melee and the Shuriken attacks for ranged. The only weapon sets that would really get left out would be the War Mace and Battle Axe simply because it's hard to see a conceptual pairing for them (Broadsword is a possibility too but it could potentially be a power customization option for the Ninja Assault).
I'd rather they just add those assault sets to Doms than making a new AT for them. And MA would probably use the bow and Katana use Shuriken so the set only has 1 weapon to customize/redraw and katana/shuriken kinda go together in the ninja theme.

    [EDITED below]
The reason I want a Melee/(de)buff AT is mainly so I can be a melee guy that meaningfully aids the entire team *other* than taunting. Stalkers can do this pretty well by taking out certain foes + demoralizing enemies. For my suggestion, going more in depth with it, the Enforcer AT wouldn't be Melee/(de)Buff but actually Blitz/Exploitation sets.

Blitz: would be kinda similar to assault sets but with focus on melee with possibly 1 strong ranged attack added in and the tier 9, rather than just 'stronger attack' or 'big AoE' is a sort of melee nuke in that it would be particularly strong, AoE and have a debuff linked to it.

    (Example
    Martial Arts Blitz-
    1.Storm Kick
    2. Crane Kick
    3. Cobra Strike
    4. Crippling Axe Kick
    5. Focus Chi
    6. Chi Blast (60ft ranged targeted AoE(8ft) that does heavy energy dmg to the target, moderate smashing dmg in an AoE with a chance of knockdown...think a ranged Thunderstrike)
    7. Dragon Tail
    8. Eagle's Claw
    9. 64 Palm Strike (20ft PBAoE extreme smashing attack, very long recharge, foe stun, self -recovery for 30 seconds)

Exploitation: could either be a slight combo of a (de)buff set with some single target control or think of it more like a combo of (de)buff sets and manipulation sets.

    Ice Exploitation:
    1. Infrigidate
    2. Chilblain(immobilize)
    3. Ice Shield
    4. Snow Storm
    5. Ice Patch
    6. Glacial Shield
    7. Block of Ice
    8. Frostworks
    9. Sleet

For an inherent, I'd suggest something phocused on personal defense rather than damage or if damage something that is more about burst damage but causes suffering in sustained. Really, it could be similar to a Stalker in that it's damage is primarily burst but in AoE with some ST in there too. The only issue I can see is currently, those that play melee ATs don't want to play buff ATs...but if the damage is done right, I think it can appeal to the players that like to buff/debuff but would like more damage.
  17. Well I'd like to hear a couple more paragraphs about your ideas if you have any.

As for the OP, I'm not sure if the devs can create a set that summons duplicates of yourself otherwise we'd be able to customize MM pets, which the devs said we won't ever get. A more generic idea would be just a melee guy with pets, then you can RP it as duplicate (just dress up like the henchmen) or a strong guy that keeps minions at his beck and call.

Now a suggestion for an AT I'd want: Enforcer (Melee/(de)Buff) or the reverse.
Think Tsoo Inkmen with katana/kama attacks with siphon power/speed. Swift Blade bosses are the ones that scare the crap out of me. A dmg buffed crit katana attack can take out nearly anything short of a Scrapper's amount of HP...

    I'd love a Warmace/Storm, Claws/Poison, Katana/Kinetic and Energy Melee/Empathy (healing/hurting hands =P)
  18. I remember reading somewhere that the stats on Energize give it roughly (considering endurance redux/recharge) the same buff as Conserve Power with healing and regen. It's just one gives less buff and recharges faster and one gives a big buff and recharges slower.
  19. Leo_G

    So..

Ah, well congrats on the 50.

It's not so much finding a niche for the AT but more adjusting your role to the team's needs. Unless the team is dropping hoards of foes in seconds, you can figure something out. And if the team is dropping hoards of foes in seconds then just go with the flow...or quit if you don't like easy teams.

I don't think anyone is looking for identical powersets, identical strengths
The problem I see with that is no one will ever agree sets are not identical in function yet equal in effectiveness or utility. Because if it's not 'set it and forget it' it has to have some kind of advantage for being active. As if this isn't an interactive game. IMO, the 'set it and forget it' nature of Willpower is a disadvantage of the set because it makes for a boring set and rewards player skill disproportionately than other armor sets.

I'm not saying EA doesn't need something but all this 'ezmode/non-ezmode' stuff is not really an argument to instill a change in the set.

    Quote:
And if WP + Psi can do 50% of the content and Shields + Rad can do the other 50%, it would be balanced. To take your example to represent the current situation, any of the ezmode sets + anything can breeze through 95% of the content while the hardmode sets are struggling to handle 50% with the same efficacy.
You'd have to provide evidence to that effect because so far, the only things I've read are anecdotal saying EA can't, anecdotal to the contrary and some out of whack test of some AE n00b unable to fight crap my dom could do with her controls tied behind her back.
  21. Quote:
Other than for /stone, /willpower and /inv (and I guess SD as well), the other sets are hardmode and need to be combined with a specific primary to even survive, not necessarily to do exceedingly well.
I wouldn't say requires a specific primary to survive, but rather specific primaries will not complement certain armor sets. And that's just how the game will have to be. Unless you want every set to be exact duplicates of eachother, one set will be complemented better by x, g, m and r set while not meshing well with q, y and k set. As long as the devs introduce new sets with varying capabilities and effects, that is just how things will be.

And because of this, player expectations will change as well. Because Willpower + Psi Melee can do such and such so every other set must do such and such or be compensated for it or Shields + Radiation Melee can solo this and that but you can't with Energy Aura or Elec Armor so those sets are broken....

    Quote:
That is, I think, the biggest issue with playing one of the non-ezmode brute secondaries; the feeling that some other AT can do the Brute's job you're doing better.
I think you're over analyzing your team contributions and over emphasizing your role in a team as a melee AT. Just because you're a Brute doesn't mean it's all about you. Either you combine what you can do with your pri/sec sets with that of the team or just worry about your own bum. You're not a defender and you're not a tanker.

Yeah, like Weatherby said, it's not the toggles. Actually, I've always said that Stalker DA is cheaper than any other melee AT because it has Cloak of Darkness (hide) for 0 end, no Death Shroud and tend to turn Cloak of Fear/Oppressive Gloom off when not needed. But Dark Regeneration is expensive. Especially expensive because the HP return you get (while proportionally the same) is less than any of the others. Tankers get this for a steal, as they have humongous HP and get it refilled for 1/3 of the endurance.

Anyway, I'm not saying don't use DA, just know what you're getting into. It can be a very unforgiving set.

I've been playing my Claws/EA and EM/EA in the low-mid levels and I have to say, it's pretty satisfying. The EM/EA will have capped defense to smash/lethal/fire/cold/energy by lvl 35. The build isn't even half IO'ed either, just IOs in about 5 powers does it.
  23. Since Ablating strike is a single target attack and ends the sweep combo, it is essentially a PBAoE that has a trigger when the combo is activated. For Procs, they will fire in the PBAoE even without the trigger. This is a feature unique to Stalker DB because all the other DBs end that combo with a PBAoE (Typhoon Edge).

This is an issue that has been known ever since they changed the combos (I can't recall for the life of me if Sweep was always like that or if it was changed to that). It's a 'fortunate' bug that may not have a solution primarily because Stalker DB don't get Typhoon Edge. Besides, we can't spam Sweep so this partways makes up for it...

    So..

So you just did it to get to brutes?

Shoulda just leveled up one when you got bored...

I had never thought of using Placate for that. A very nice trick indeed.
I don't know if it still works, but I remember using it to pull 2 spawns apart that were too close together. On my Spines/DA, I would get close enough to throw impale then placate him. The slow animation of impale helped so I could throw out placate almost right after he was alerted and because he couldn't move the rest of the spawn would be alerted a second or two after that. Some weird quirk would make the spawn alert to the team and leave the impaled guy alerted to me because of the DoT.

I can't recall doing it that often but I remember 2 times in the past I used it and it worked.
