Does shockwave still do KB on +4s? I don't know if that is balanced around or not. Maybe its to give Brutes more AoE mitigation but less damage (easily shored up by Spin if you ask me)?
Anyways, seems kinda messed up that they need to lower the effectiveness of the set so soon after release. Like, didn't someone test it and say "Hey, take a closer look see here"? Do what you gotta do I guess, but how 'bout making them cheaper while you're at it? -
Quote:That was kind of my point when I posted that. EA doesn't 'suck' like was stated earlier. It's just a defense set from the perspective of the early levels. Now it may not be SR once past lvl 24 but that's another can-o-worms. But considering the pool choices and endurance management, it has its own advantages.Defense Sets take longer to mature than Resist Sets. I started playing Brutes with Resists and I find Defense sets maddening until well into the 20s. After that they really shine, but you have to give them time to blossom. Someone who is coming off a /invuln or worse yet /WP will find /EA squishy in the early levels. All I can say is it does get better. My Fire/EA brute is 43 and is practically untouchable. Things started to flip for me around level 26-28 or so.

Quote:Now I thought there were separate mods for range_buff mods and self_buff mods. Is that not why Tanker's melt armor and things like Maneuvers and Grant Cover aren't overpowered for them?Originally Posted by Samual_TowFirstly, a tangent - you can't make a specific pool power have higher values for one AT than for another. It all comes down to specific AT mods, and if you want to make Leadership strong on the Leader, you're going to have to give them high defence, to-hit and damage buff modifiers, which can potentially make powers like Weave stronger than they should be.

I dunno. Are you fighting with your Brute any differently?
I recently got lvl 22 and SOs. I turned my xp off and am quite comfortable with +0lvl/4x missions. Mind you, I'm no Brute of experience but it's actually quite easy most of the time. I say I'm comfortable because there are a few times in every mission that's kind of a close one but overall that just makes playing interesting. I'll probably leave him on that difficulty until he gets any more defense/resists.
Now that I got Energy Cloak, there's no way I'd switch to another secondary. -
Thinking a Kinetic/Electric Melee would synergize well to sap foes + siphon speed to get that Lightning Rod up faster.

You know, why not post screen shots now that they're visible right on the page.

Quote:Really, I think you just have to wait until Spines gets proliferated to Brutes (can you imagine how bad it'd be on them currently?). Then Castle will have to crack his knuckles and finally get on with 'fixing' Spines. That is exactly what I've been saying, if Spines were to get it's redraw time removed a lot would have be changed and from what Castle said it wouldn't be to a lot of people's likings.
People may cry now about that but the set will probably be better off (not to mention spread around to more ATs). It'll flow better and probably not be completely handicapped vs single hard targets.
But my point was, BaB probably won't go shaving off animation seconds and then Castle following behind to balance everything. Castle will ultimately dictate the direction in adjusting the set with new animation times and then BaB will alter the animations afterwards. You won't get one without the other. -
Quote:You've got the wrong idea. BaB adjusts animation times *ONLY* when Castle requires it. He doesn't go shaving off or adding seconds because he think it looks good. He said so himself when another poster jokingly accused him of butchering EM and he replied it was Castle that put him on the task.It really doesn't need to be buffed, but neither did any of the scrapper weapon sets. I imagine it was more of a personal task BaB's set upon himself to clean up the messy work that was original implemented. Whether it ever happens to spines or not who knows, but it is the last set needing it AFAIK.
I can understand why he'd do it for weapons too, he generally does pretty tight animations and the old pauses and hitches in the sets were...not tight.
The weapon sets had their animations shaved off because Castle wanted the weapon sets to start being proliferated to Brutes and those draw times were affecting fury. That's when Castle tasked BaB to go in and mess with animation times. Now any weapons sets (except Spines) can be cleanly proliferated without messing with animations, just the numbers. -
Quote:So Assassin's Flame, Placate, Build up, Breath of Fire, Scorch, Cremate, Firesword, Greater Firesword....and Taunt!?Dot didn't stop spines being used for stalkers, so I don't see why it would stop FM.
They could very well remove FireSwordCircle (proly what will happen) and incinerate (problematic dot power) for AS, and placate which would leave breath of fire as the aoe and scorch, cremate, firesword and GFS as the normal st attacks. -
I've been tempted to make a Broadsword/Elec stalker myself but I have too many alts on my plate. I believe that set would be really good over all. It has a decent heal, good resists and utility in being immune to endurance drain/-recovery and endurance management tools. Compared to the other resist set, Dark Armor, it outta play quite differently and more offensively.
But then I'd be wondering what my character is suppose to do with that spare hand and just go Katana instead....either way it's a solid enough combo, IMO.
Spines is a little more iffy. You're AoE but you don't have mitigation to quell those enemies. Relying on just your resists will get you killed. I'd say if you're going spines, choose something that is either solid mitigation (like /Nin, /WP, /SR or even /EA) or has something to mitigate multiple foes (/Dark Armor). -
You know, I don't really see this as customization. It's more along the lines of 'upgrading the current system' which I'm completely behind. I'd say link the sounds your steps make to the boot costume pieces, like you said.
The music thing sounds a bit more difficult. I think they could do a far better job with it now if they decide to change it but certain music in certain areas and maps or even when fighting initiated would be cool and enhance the tension or suspense. Or the big leap you mentioned: choose your music. I'd be quite awesome if NCsoft teamed up with itunes so you could buy some music and have an ingame GUI that plugs it in where you want it.
As for player voices, yeah I've been itching to change the voice of my old katana/SR scrapper because he's a young 12 year old boy and the voice he has doesn't work. More options (catgirl/catboi sounds pweese?) would make all my characters happy. Hmm, do any MMOs currently allow you to alter sounds and music yet?

1kcuts for stalkers is a 10ft range 90degree cone. For the other melee types it's only 7ft so take that for what it's worth. It certainly would be easier to use on teams but then, you can alter your difficulty so you face more foes now. Not that many stalker primaries can BU and 1-shot a bunch of minions. Even if it's a long animation, it's a strong power with control built into it as well. Up to you if it's worthwhile or not.
Oppressive Gloom...hmm, I'd say so. It's cheap and stuns minions. If you stack it with other stuns you can disable Lts and Bosses. It breaks hide if you hit anyone with it though so you'd need to turn it off to AS/crit or time your attacks right before the mez pulses.
Shadow Meld when slotted gives 30ish% defense. Stacked with slotted Shadow Dweller and Hide, it'd put you at 40ish% defense for 15 seconds. Shadow Meld recharges in 90sec (so around 50sec slotted?) so will be available often enough to be useful. I'd say it's definitely worthwhile. -
Why not create Electric Support/Control sets first and then create an epic pool by pulling powers from those?

Quote:I also disagree with the idea of Death being a stalker, but see, the problem with THAT is there are more variants on the character of Death than either of us what the time to list. You reference a cold killer who sneaks up on you and snuffs your life, I reference a man who's job it is to see that you go when it's your time, and is there to escort your soul to .. wherever it is he escorted souls to.
This makes him very hard to use as a reference for anything.
Anyway, I believe I've made my point, no need to press it
For ranged weapons, or any new weapon that's being suggested, I think it'd be more interesting to include alternate damage types for them than the typical smashing and lethal. For boomerrangs, similarly to Archery, it'd be cool if they had an attack in there that does something like smashing/cold damage. You can say it spins so fast it creates a cold chill (??). The throwing knives/shuriken could have a poisoned tip attack that does lethal/toxic damage + DoT. The mentioned scythe I think would work with all the attacks being lethal/neg energy.

Quote:I don't see it working as intended. You gave negative rep to someone you mistakingly thought was someone else. I gave you negative rep for your misuse of said system and yet it does absolutely nothing in the long run.Rep changes due to my posts in this thread:
Leo dropped me from 1027 to 1024
2 users bumped me from 1024 to 1067
1 user attempted to neg me but apparently lacks the ability to do so (grey dot) with a sarcastic comment about me being a saint. Satan knows that isn't true.
Working as intended it seems.
i.e. it isn't working. -
Quote:Now that's just plain being a jerk, Bill. Explain why you felt the need to deduct reputation from someone just because they have an opinion differing from yours. Now if he posted in a trollish, annoying or incoherent way, maybe...Of course you'll continue starting new threads on topics with existing threads. It's what you do.
I hope you noticed that I signed my neg rep hit for you. I don't want you thinking I'm just another anonymous meanie head.
As mentioned, the vast majority of those individuals that consistently get negative rep comments deserve them.
If you wish to stop getting them, stop deserving them.
I'm not shouting you down. I'm only attempting to explain why you see what you see.
Long live the rep system!
I think I've added/deducted rep about 4 times total since the forums changed (most positive toward SteelClaw in this thread) but you'll be my 4th and my 1st deduction. Not because I don't agree with what you said but for misuse of the rep system.
In the long run, it does nothing but annoy and frustrate the boards. If the system were dropped, who would actually miss it?
If something needs to replace this system, I'd opt for the old 'stars' system. I'd generally read threads with titles or subjects that interests me and skip everything else unless it had an odd star rating (high or low) then I'd read into those too. This rep system, when used properly, doesn't do much and when used improperly is just a griefing tool. -
Quote:Np, I just want to post stuff in the Stalker forums so people know who I side withThanks for clarifying Leo, I had a brain fart and was thinking about scrappers again. Not that I think about scrappers at the wrong times or places, mind you... ^_^
But if anything, OP, I'd just go with concept...or whatever set sounds fun. I had a blast with my Spines/Dark not because it was easy or 'the best' but because it had a different playstyle and fit my character's concept. He's sitting at lvl 39 not because I don't want to play him but because I'm an altaholic. About 99.68% of my characters range from lvl 22-41 and 0% are lvl 50 -
Quote:Actually, you were the one who said anything about broadswords first and the category of weapon Jason uses is just that.
But, trying to use Jason as an example to support a stalker with an awkward weapon, VEEERY bad example.
Jason 1: used a machete, not an awkward weapon. 2: SO a brute. >.>
The problem with quoting video games is, unless it's exclusively a stealth game, the argument that said character is not a stalker because he doesn't sneak around is always going to be used. Same with your opinion on Jason (I mean, come on!! The guy *LITERALLY* stalks people!). If I put down Batman from the AA game, you quote the parts of the game where he stands and fights.
It's pretty discriminating to Stalkers, really. As if they can't stand and fight and must *only* sneak around and hit and run. That's not how it's done nor has it ever been done. In summation, a Stalker is everything, in concept, that a Scrapper is but can use surprise and stealth to their advantage.
Quote:There are unfortunately very few examples (that I am familiar with) of stealthy killers (which regardless of anything else, IS what a Stalker is), with awkward and unwieldy weapons.
“Think of the Lord! No one knows this secret, of when the Messenger of Death will seize you and take you away. All your weeping and wailing then is false. In an instant, you become a stranger. You obtain exactly what you have longed for. Says Nanak, in the fourth watch of the night, O mortal, the Grim Reaper has harvested your field.” --Adi Sri Guru Granth Sahib
Quote:Here's an option for you for an initially stalker exclusive (though I do not warrant them sucking for other archtypes.) Two-bladed sword. Has speed and gains a lot of its power from the finesse of the user, not the brute strength, a lot of interesting potential, including it has defensive capabilities.
A two bladed finesse weapon? Like Dual Blades? But with alternate animations of course....
Nah, I want a big weapon. Nothing says assassinate than one-shotting someone with an oversized piece of metal with a sickle at the end. -
Quote:If you're talking about Ninjutsu, having that set custom fitted for Stalkers is kinda balanced out by the sacrifices every other armor set takes upon proliferation. Talking about the removal of Quick Recovery, Extra +res passive from SR, endurance draining tool of Elec armor, etc.Originally Posted by ToySoldierZolgarWhen your AT already has a set that was designed exclusively for them that no other AT has?
Quote:And when the weapon style that you are posing, does not lend itself well to swift, stealthy combat?
That's why I think Scythe is best for Stalkers. It's an unwieldly weapon not built for actual combat like a sword or spear. As for it not being built for 'assassinations', it's a game where a broadsword is a 'heavy weapon'. I think broadening Stalker's repertoire from simple assassinations to 'cold-blooded killing' or 'reaping mortal souls' isn't nearly as far a stretch.
As for Kusari Gama and that chain weapon, I could possibly see the chain weapon working but more of an assault set because of its range. The kusari gama is too niche a concept. Really, only ninjas and japanese warriors used that weapon. Scythe is more broad a concept. -
Quote:Well you can just be pissed until they proliferate it like I am with Ice melee for Stalkers. That is what I was implying. Create the set, design it around doing what a Stalker does best, let it sit on that AT for an issue or two *then* proliferate it. Bonus points if it's extremely 'meh' for Brutes and Scrappers, positively awesome for Stalkers and absolutely amazing on Tankers. Can you name one powerset that is EXCLUSIVE to any single archtype (with exception of the dominators "Assault" pools, which are thematically identical to one or more sets, just given melee and ranged attacks)
I know i sure can't.
The set being 'designed for' stalkers, I'd be fine with. But it it was a stalker exclusive set, I would be pissed. (I cannot play stalkers, I hate how the game treats them. They are an AWESOME concept, which the game mechanics are entirely built against.) -
Totally agree, need throwing weapons. As for crossbow, I think they could just give alternate animations to Archery and there you go.
Boomerang is a set I'd really enjoy watching if animated right. Now that we can customize weapon color for those thrown (spines and thorns), I don't see why this couldn't work.
As for Scythe melee, I think they should make it a Stalker only set
Make it about huge burst damage but somehow resistant to transforming into high DPS, min/max Scrapper build. Kinda-sorta like Electric Melee. Even though that set wasn't originally made for Stalkers, I feel Stalkers use the set better than any other melee AT because it's about AoE 'burst damage' and Stalkers do 'burst damage' better than the others.
I'd just like 1 set made for stalkers and not just ported to them like all the others. -
Quote:When the heck did they say that? If so...NCSoft was/is hiring somebody to work on CoH and one of the things they're supposed to do is artwork related to animals (to horribly paraphrase 'cause my memory is sucking
