On the Stalker front, anything not /Ninjutsu and /SR will probably be rare. The other secondaries still keep you alive (with Elec Armor lagging behind) but the important choice is primary. That'll decide your tactics and capabilities in battle (ex: Energy Melee, Martial Arts and Dark Melee will wipe the floor with single targets but are practically worthless AoE-wise. Spines, Dual Blades and Elec Melee will obliterate crowds with AoE crits but Spines and Elec melee are a good deal slower putting down that big bad boss.)
I'd suggest Energy Aura, Willpower or Regeneration as a secondary as they aren't super common yet effective in keeping you upright. Primary I'd choose using concept but you can't go wrong with Broadsword, Dual Blades or Claws as they're effective for single target killing and AoE killing (and not super common either). Dark melee is a beast of a set and despite that, you probably won't see many at the same time as you. I actually don't think I've ever seen a DM/WP stalker like I have despite how much synergy the sets have. -
Quote:In those regards, I doubt *you* even know what you want or even why you want it. New innovations toward teaming? Like what? Power combo effects? I can't even think of anything they'd add that they already haven't that would appease the unquenchable need for *moar everything*.
But I expected gameplay, innovations towards teaming, task forces, more goals for solo players, new mission types and other things to keep you playing through the content and make you forget what power leveling means.
Now I'm all for new mission types and dynamic choices objectives but we're talking about the *Art Department*. There's only so much you can do with drawing skills and rendering programs. Those responsible for story arcs and game missions were probably busy appeasing those crying for side switching to keep up with your ever ballooning need of game features you feel entitled to.
Is it so hard to just look at the options they're giving us and pick the ones you'll take and *not* moan about the other stuff you won't? -

Quote:I suppose there would be suppression in the toggle phase, maybe not the 30sec(?) suppression but something like 15?
Do powers from this set not trigger suppression?
How does this interact with the Pool Phase Shift powers?
What are the recharge/duration of the various Phasing powers?
If this powerset doesn't trigger phase suppression, would it be possible to be permanently phased via chaining Planar Shift and Phantom Gate?
How would you address the problem of wasting attacks on targets that are in the incorrect phase?
The phantom gate wouldn't cause suppression because it's a pet casting it on you. I'm not sure how the rules work in PvP but it'd work the same as if someone used detention field on you.
As for wasting attacks on phased/unphased targets, I guess if the graphics were visible indications of them being phased then it's on you if you're wasting attacks.
Quote:However, my reasons for getting rid of the AOE phase shift, is simple. People tend to hate it in PvE. Team gets bubbled in the Phase Shift, the blaster outside it, sets down a Rain Power (or even the Defenders/Trollers/Whoever)...and it doesn't effect them.

Quote:It's different from Shields, yes. But making it Positional Defense seems to make it 1) Alot like Shields and 2) I want to have a set that's easier to softcap! -
Just to state my thoughts: I like MA how it is and feel it has decent synergy with any set. However, it doesn't really have much of a specialty or unique aspect to it and it basically falls middle of the road in everything except AoE dmg/control where it falls behind.
To give it a bonus synergy/specialty/unique feature, I've always thought making Focus Chi into a Power Buildup type power would be a great change for it. Besides buffing your dmg and ToHit, make it double the effect of the in-set effect (stuns, immobilize and slow) as well as slightly improving defense, heals, Tohit buffs you may have as well as debuffs/controls you may have from your secondary. Fits conceptually too (you're focusing your chi after all so some differentiation from Build up should be in order). -
Quote:So if I want people to pay attention to me, I should throw honey covered feces at them?Well, you've heard the expression "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar"?
On the internet, it's a little different.
The OP makes a suggestion that has a number of flaws, and perhaps is based on a false assumption.
Responders point out the flaws.
OP gets unhappy and hurls insults (or something that looks like it was intended to be. The counting to 100 thing is meaningless gibberish.), refusing to see the errors in his theory.
Responders try to show the OP what he refuses to see. "You can lead a horse to water...."
I think that online, "You can catch more flies with manure, than with honey or vinegar." -
Why do these threads always get the attention?

Quote:Kinda is. It makes you better with *any* phase including the ones in the set.
Tier 9 should be Phase Shift only better.
Quote:Keep the set a mix of Defense and Resistance. Make the whole in the set, the lack of any Energy Resistance. None at all.
Positional Defense can cover the pure energy attacks, but when they do hit, they hit hard. This fits imo seeing as how ghosts have -resist to energy.
I'd keep in all the special resists, add in KB (you're intangible, you shouldnt be knocked back), but no END Drain Resist.
Quote:I'd replace the AOE phase shift of target, and just keep to the single target one for enemies.
Replace the AOE Phase SHift with a Quickness/Lightning Reflexes style power. You're a phantom/intangible type theme set...should be lighter on the feet. -
Quote:When was that?I find it bad form to assume Brutes will always have so much Fury in general, especially not in situations where Energy Melee truly excels at, which is boss fights.
Also, Castle mentioned something along those lines at one point - Energy Melee for Scrappers as is is unlikely. Something somewhere will have to give.
It might have been before alot of changes were made to the set/system. Now that powers can have different effects in PvP and PvE and some of the powers in EM have been touched up, I think they've set it up nicely for a clean(er) port to scrappers.
Honestly, a while back when Scrappers were pining for EM, I just considered them selfish min/maxers that wanted to destroy balance. Now? Meh, they probably just want tintable glowie hands. -
Quote:And that's the thing:
A critical Total Focus or Energy Transfer can get into the thousands of hit points of damage on a Scrapper. A Brute can kinda sorta measure up if he's going full on Fury, which is both hard to achieve and hard to maintain. A Scrapper can do that and more just rolling out of bed.
Energy Transfer does not crit. Look at the only critical hitting Energy melee set (Stalker: Energy Melee) and you'll see that Energy Transfer's crit is in the form of nullifying the self damage. It adds no damage to the attack however.
Total Focus only *partially* crits. I don't recall how much exactly but rather than 2x dmg, it's something like 1.5x dmg. -
You'd need to implement a way for NPCs to move their mouths when they speak first.
-
Quote:How about 10? Or 100?How is a ventriloquist going to operate more than two dummies?
As for the set, you'd really need to broaden the idea.
Also, I'd narrow the theme/name down to simply "Puppets". -
Quote:Conceptually, the set is about phasing through attacks instead of dodging them (or creating illusions to fool the foe and hinder their targeting). Although the concept can fit that of a ghost (and that's the direction I first came from when thinking of the set), that isn't the only concept this is for. Basically, like someone with Super Reflexes or Precognition can move out of the path of an attack, someone with Phantom Aura can do the same but simply phase momentarily so the attack harmlessly passes through them.
Thematically, I think typed defense fits phantom/ghost more than positional defense. Positional defense is about agility and dodging. From your description, phantoms are hard to hit because of their nature, not that much about them dodging really fast. I understand that players like positional defense more, but you can think about it. This is probably arguable.
Quote:I'm not sure if +Max HP fits phantom shadow that well. In the context of ghost, you can say that ghost don't feel pain, which effectively increases its hit-point. I would put +Max HP in ghost essense because phantom shadow is more about illusion.
Eh, might be a good idea to switch the resistance from Ghost Essence to Phantom Shadow and the HP from PS to GE.
Quote:I prefer a tier 9 like the one in Will power if you don't want to give phantom aura a real god mode. There is nothing wrong with having a tier 9 passive, I just feel that a passive doesn't make people feel excited.
Quote:I guess the main feature is the phase shift powers. Actually, I don't use phase shift much in game. Can you fight while phase shifted? I vaguely remember that you can fight phase-shifted players in pvp. From your power description, it seems like you can fight phase-shifted mobs in pve and take phase-shifted mobs back to reality.
Quote:The phase shift powers are certainly interesting. But I bet people will simply skip the 3 powers in pve game play, because the game overall is more towards killing faster, there are not much problems with survival. Phase shifting mobs just make players kill slower, in particular at high levels. I hope that the phase shift mechanics can be designed differently.
Again, I can see a stupid amount of ways Phantom Gate could be used, it's almost broken. Like, for instance, your Corruptor died and is right next to the mob and you don't have recall. You can drop phantom gate down ontop of him, he uses an awake only to be instantly phased. The enemies turn and shoot in vain then charge. Either the corruptor waddles out of the gate as the foe runs in or at least gives the corr time to use a breakfree. All the while, you killed 3-4 guys.
The fact that only so many foes can fit in an 8ft space instantly nullifies any other foes outside that space. Really, it's such a broken power, I actually consider it more appropriate for a control primary.
But the set-up for this set is that it's a seek and destroy set. You target a foe and you kill it. It shouldn't specifically slow you down as, even though the foe you targeted is phased, you're still attacking it. It may be better in the hands of a Stalker than a Scrapper...but is that a bad thing?
Quote:It looks like there are advantages to players with phantom aura to fight in alternate dimension. Do you think it would be better if team mates can get certain buff when going through the phantom gate? It may give the team some incentive to fight phase shifted. I have some concern about the "magnitude" of the phantom gate. In an AV fight, it would be funny if you put it at the feet of an AV, and all the melees are on the other side of the gate phase-shifted but the AV resists the effect.
As for AVs resisting it, that's something I wasn't thinking of. What is their resistance to phase powers anyway?
Anyway, the way I see the power working is, you set down a pet that, every 2-3 seconds or so pulses an AoE that applies an auto-hit and self stacking mag of intangibility that would last like 8 seconds. This means if you step out of the circle, you'll stay phased for 8 seconds after that but if you stay inside you only receive the initial phase mag as any followup pulses cannot affect someone who's already phased. If the target has any kind of resistance to phase, the pulsing mez will eventually stack a few times. They may not stay phased while inside but they will phase in and out. -
Quote:That's what I'm saying. Coming from the perspective of an EM/EA stalker, it's strong but it's weak at the same time. Sure, it hits like a truck but it's SLLOOOooOOOoooooooowww.......wwwYou lost the arguement when you didn't account for Brute fury, which puts them at more damage than a Scrapper, not to mention they have better defense than scrappers (more hit points, and the ability to obtain higher levels of resistance).
Next, Energy Melee isn't all that. Yes, it has two heavy hitters. To bad on teams the mobs are dead before you even land the hit. That's how long those animations are. :/
It also doesn't do very good AoE dmg (in the case of stalker, it does *no* AoE dmg), and if you're not a healing/regen secondary, your strongest attack slowly kills you. And if you're not a def/res secondary, you run the risk of dying in the middle of those long attacks.
On top of *that*, those strong heavy hitters don't benefit from your inherent fully. So while ET is a 4.5 dmg scale attack, that's all it can be while the other heavy hitters scrappers have can meet or exceed that *without* killing you.
I'm not saying EM on a scrapper wouldn't be strong but I doubt it'll be any more overpowered than on a Brute. And is EM even the top set for them? I'm pretty sure it was bumped down a step with the introduction of Claws. -
For the good of your soul, please *PLEASE* go to Icon/Facemaker and change up your spines. Or start making a new character to take a peek at the options. Thorns, Rock, Metal, Crystal. And they all look great. You can even color them!
-
Okay, firstly, I'm not opposed to giving the set -KB. It can fit conceptually (how do you knock around a ghost-like entity?) and honestly, I hate following a formula all the time. Knockback holes have been done already, I'd love a different kind of hole for uniqueness sake. Sleep wouldn't be that bad seeing as it doesn't drop toggles and the set has no offensive toggles that would turn off.
Quote:When I was making the set up, I was looking at Ninjutsu and having SR in mind. It really has no parallells to DA or Invuln though as those sets have soft/hard controls or scaling defense+a heal.It seems almost like SR meets Dark Armor meets Invuln. It has defense toggles from SR/Ninjitsu, resistances to everything, and increased HP.
Basically, I was thinking the set would have defense between SR and Nin (not much room between but it doesn't need to) and equivalentish resistance to SR, when you're phased that is.
Quote:This one has all of that overlap, but also regen, phase, fear, enemy phase, and stealth. It risks being overpowered with this many bonuses.
Depending what others think about phasing would probably determine how the def/res are balanced. -
Quote:I'm with Technobot, I honestly don't see there being such an imbalance for Scrapper EM in PvE and in PvP, the damage can be a whole different value because its effect in PvP doesn't have to be what it is in PvE. There's no reason it shouldn't be ported.
I honestly don't know what Castle could do to mitigate that. Certainly I would like to see a Scrapper wielding Energy Melee just for the sheer awesomeness this would produce, but I just know we won't ever see this much concentrated awesome. Energy Melee has too much spike damage and too much reliable hard control.
Also, yeah Sam, you pretty much extrapolated EM's set-up. On a Stalker, AS is optional. You don't need it but it's another high burst attack that requires a set-up (hide, BU and no movement). But an EM Stalker can pull off an AS without that thanks to the high burst of Total Focus and Energy Transfer plus those attacks don't exactly crit for more burst thanks to hide.
So a Scrapper would be able to pull off what a Stalker can. Why is that an issue? -
Like was said earlier, DPS is misleading and doesn't adequately portray *actual* damage output, just potential damage output.
How do you calculate starting every fight with a dead foe or a built up crit? It'll certainly look different than averaging in BU's +dmg and base crit chances into a linear dps stat. -
Okay, what if -KB was in Phase Mastery?
-
Meh, why not? If it isn't overpowered for a Stalker in PvP, then I don't see why it'd be a problem for Scrappers.
EM these days isn't the ZOMGhaxx!1 it used to be... -
I think I remember seeing one of the devs posting a command...something like
/suppressfxclose ##
Something like that, the ## was a numbered distance at which the fx would suppress. So maybe you could tone down particles so they low but not completely invisible and then set it so fx further than (or closer than, I can't remember how that command works) the input distance would not show. I guess that give your eyes less to process...
...Anyone want to clue us in on that command? Anyone? -
Another for fun set. This time, an armor set.
Phantom Aura
By some scientific or magical method, a user of the Phantom Aura is capable of using illusions, holograms, barriers and/or forcefields to dissuade enemy attacks or the user can outright alter the fabric of reality and his enemies are just his playthings.
1. Hide
2. Illusionary Aura (Toggle, self +def melee/range; +res vs -def) A cloud of illusions surround the user, creating a mirage effect that makes it difficult for the enemy to see where or *if* you are. [animation would basically be a mirage 'wave' that travel up the body that would be make your character completely invisible on the 'wave' part but visible on the non 'wave' part]
3. Phantom Shadows (Toggle, self +def AoE; +res vs -def; +MaxHP) As you move, phantom forms of yourself follow in your path giving the illusion there is more than one of yourself. This makes it difficult to aim multi-target attacks properly. [A color tintable 'trail' with the shape of your body size that would fade the further it got from you]
4. Phase Mastery (Passive, self +res fire, cold, psy; +protection immobilize, teleport; +res vs foe phase; *Special*) As a phantom, you have greater control of your corporeal consistency. This gives you the ability to shrug off some of the effects of elements and psionic assault as well as enemy restraints and attempts to teleport or phase you. Also, while in a phased state, you get a moderate damage bonus to your attacks.
5. Ghost Essense (Toggle, self +res/protection hold, sleep, stun, fear; +res smashing, lethal, fire, cold, psionic) Similar to a ghost, it is difficult to pin you down or affect you with earthly or mental means. [a color tintable aura that would pulse slightly around the contours of the character + a slight bit of transparency like Shadowfall]
6. Ethereal Manipulation (Ranged Single Target foe intangible; -ToHit) With mastery over corporeal forms, you can shift a foe closer to the side of ghosts and phantasms, effectively making them a ghost without control of their form. Similarly, you can make a phased ghost's form physical.
7. Planar Shift (Toggle Self intangibility; +res smash, lethal, energy, neg energy, fire, cold, toxic) Shift your form to that of a pure intangible form/ghost so you can only affect or be affected by others in the same state. [animation would be a phase shift clone]
8. Phantom Gate (Pet immobile summon, phase all; foe -ToHit, fear) Any foe or ally that sets within this 8ft circle is put into an intangibility state but enemies will be jolted by the sudden state change. [Thinking a tintable glowing circle you place on the ground]
9. Realm Ruler (Passive, +res smash, lethal, energy, neg energy; *Special*) The alternate state you put yourself and enemies in may be closer in effect to transporting to an alternate dimension. In whatever state or reality you shift to, you have much better control of your corporeal form there. This gives you an unnatural innate resistant to physical attacks but when phased, you also regen at a much higher rate.
Overview: +def vs melee/ranged/AoE
high +res vs smashing/lethal/fire/cold and moderate +res vs psi while phased
moderate +res vs smashing/lethal/fire/cold/energy/neg energy and minor +res vs psi/toxic all the time/while not phased
+MaxHP
Foe phase + ToHit debuff and fear
Self phase
Ally phase
+regen while phased
+dmg while phased
For Scrapper, remove Hide, replace it with Phantom Mask and shave off the Ranged +def from Illusionary Aura and put it in Phantom Mask along with more +res vs -def and stick a non-suppressing Stealth on it too.
Set weakness is only /Ninjutsu lvl defense, no self heal, no -KB, and no real God Mode. -
Quote:Actually, SR was one of Stalker's Starting powersets, what they got out of the gate when CoV was released (along with ninjutsu, regen and energy aura).Originally Posted by Sharker_Quintand sr(which was given to brutes/stalkers at the same time.
A set that all of the melee's have is Willpower (and now Electric Armor). As a set, WP is almost *overpowered* in how easy yet effective it is. Even on a Stalker, it quite sturdy and when paired with the right set can rank up there with one of Stalker's best sets.
Again, tanky sets are nice to have but, on a Stalker or Scrapper who don't *need* extra aggro to function, it'd be nice to have more options to disable, hinder or distract foes. Even though it's a tanker set, I think Ice armor fits the bill here. For stalker, replace the dmg aura with Hide and maybe remove the slow aura for another controlly ice power and it would work great.
Quote:There are no tier 9 powers in this game that make it where you CANNOT be killed. Some make it very difficult, especially in a 1 on 1 fight, but you still CAN be killed with them activated. And you are suggesting this for a non-tier 9.
...but yeah, no. That tier 9 sounds outrageous, especially in PvP. I don't mind the idea of phase type powers for the set though with a self phase thrown in. Now that we can attack phased foes if we're phased too, that can offer some mean mitigation by simply phasing who you want to kill. Everybody else will just have to wait their turn. Probably wouldn't work all that well for a Tanker style though.. -
Sorry for the back to back posts, I forgot to say something...
Quote:They have slowed down quite a bit, but if you think about it, come i16, everyone got shiny new sets like Electric, Radiation and OMGCLAWS! but Stalkers just got Broadsword. It's not that Broadswords is bad, it's just boring cause we already have Katana. The stalkers forums is the slower of all forums, which makes me wonder if it's really true that less and less people play this AT.
Even though I love all my Stalkers to death, I'm playing a Claws Brute at the moment. Once Stalkers get some shiny, I'll be all over it.
Quote:Once out of hide, we are a scrapper with less damage.
My final advice to you is this: It's not how fast you take down the foe, it's how you do it. Stalkers have style and dropping a foe whose pants are down never gets old. Rather than min/maxing and worrying about DPS, I suggest just playing the game, experiment with the tools Stalkers have and have fun. You *can* min/max but well, that's just less attention you're paying to style.
You're graded on style as a stalker, just so you know. -
Meh, I don't care for the advice je_saist gave. It basically perpetuates the weakness the other 3 melee ATs have against Stalkers and that's that they are useless in melee. Just to define 'melee', it's the state of using melee ranged attacks to incapacitate foes. Hitting and running is like saying "I can use melee attacks against you but EEEeeeE! I can't *actually* face you..."
Quote:Panikaze, that is a weakness of the set you choose. Similarly, an Elec/ brute has the same weakness: weak Single Target Damage. However an Elec/ stalker has at least 1 tool over Brute to remedy that: Assassin's Shock. Rolling an Elec/ brute won't be better in the ST department. Basically, you'll still be pounding on that boss and the team will finally finish it for you.Being an stealth assassin is fun when soloing, but what can a stalker bring to a team if everything else is dead as soon as you are done with the boss you AS'd?
Elec/ strength is its AoE, its AoE burst to be precise. While as a stalker, you can focus on a single target, your focus should be splashing as many foes with crits as you can.
On a different note, my DM/WP stalker will take out EBs by the time the team finishes off the rest of the spawns. Basically, he can drop bosses very very fast...maybe not 'take out EB before spawn' fast but fast. If the team is wiping out spawns so fast you can't take out the bosses in time, then you're on a lolmelee team. It won't matter if you're a Brute or a Scrapper, you'll add little to the team.
Quote:Why do /YOU/ still play a stalker?
Also, picking your fights feels more intelligent than mindlessly running and smashing everything. It just so happens you get rewarded as a Stalker for this but punished as a Brute.
