  1. “You guys are something else,” Jase chuckled. “You don’t have caller ID on those police scanners of yours? Or do you answer any 261s that get broadcast?” he joked, sticking his tongue out through his wide grin.

“Besides,” came a voice from the open door of the hospital lobby, “some of us have jobs to do.” Stepping down the stairs was the boy from earlier in the basement although he was no longer injured and he happened to be carrying an ornate scythe that seemed to be made of some sort of obsidian metal, a peculiar material that only reflected light once you were looking right down the bladed curve of it.

Jase sighed disappointedly. “Uh oh. Guess my time is up,” he said with a frown and a wave goodbye. Just then, his skin began to turn an opaque black and his body got tall and skinny until he was a flat 2-D shape that zipped and flew across the ground and stopped at the boy’s feet.

Once whole, the figure of the boy faded into darkness to reveal Jase in his place, holding the large heavy looking scythe. “No more games, witch,” the shadow ninja scowled to Widow Frost, “say your prayers or whatever and make your peace because your end is at the edge of this scythe.” His face solemn and focused, Jase pointed the scythe in the direction of Rosalind, Acid and the Urban Fellow who were between the widow and the congressman. “You. Stand down. I’m through playing here.” Apparently, Jase wasn’t in the mood to feign good manners.

Sorry, that was a general statement not directed at you. More or less getting people to analyze RttC and exactly what's going on when foes are knocked around, away from the aura or otherwise.

Rather than "It's out of my aura therefore I just got less effective" we're all thinking "That boss would have done significantly more dmg than the 50% regen buff I lost for knocking him away for 4 sec, therefore it's not making me less effective".

Or to pull of a Sweep combo, but that's not really relevant.

That said, attack chains are generally more useful when fighting a target that won't go down in a couple of hits. My Ninja Blade Stalker uses the "hit whatever attack has recharged" tactic against 90% of enemies, only bothering to break out a proper attack chain against bosses and higher.
Again, DBs combos are, primarily, considered attack strings. You don't have to 'build' an attack chain to use DB's combos, you just string the attacks in a specific order and if you do it right, DB's secondary effect (the combos) is the result.

Although I can understand using an attack chain for tough targets but, IMO, that's what Build up is for, to wipe out the hard targets (people actually have this on auto? pretty wasteful to me).

I can see where it might look like RttC needs lots of minions hanging around, and maybe in edge cases this might be so. For general gameplay it ain't an issue.
So we can use this argument vs KB then too? Because RttC is just fine with KB because the KB'ed foe isn't attacking and won't be attacking until he gets up and runs back toward you (because of taunt).

In theory, KB will make RttC more even in its mitigation as the foes thin out. Only a boss/Lts left? Having them on their back would allow you to regen more HP(because the boss isn't taking any away) compared to the 1/2 foe bonus of RttC and them wailing on you.

    1) MA/Regen: Jump kick (someone heading through the roof isn't going to be hitting me) -> storm kick (with jump kick slotted for knockback, this connects just as the target is coming back down. Very satisifying.) -> thunder kick (just in case one of the previous missed) -> crane kick (a nice finisher for minions -- send 'em flying)
    2) Claws/SR: Followup (damage and to-hit buffs if it connects) -> focus (knockdown) -> slash (defense debuff) -> strike (filler while followup recharges). Between the damage buffs, the to-hit buffs, and the defense debuffs, this absolutely shreds tougher targets.

One of these days, my forcefield defender should get together a knockback-heavy team and run safeguard missions for the sole purpose of watching the bodies fly.
Those aren't attack chains. Those are attack strings. And everybody who doesn't click one attack and stand around for 5min before pushing another one does this. I'm more or less talking about players posting a Mids' build and then asking for advice and are like "And what should my attack chain be? Because I was thinking blahblahbla".

I mean, really? You can't just shoot/hit with whatever powers? Yeah, seamless attack chain blahblahblah *gets slammed by ice/psy attack with a wideareawebgrenade*. Now do you just fall apart because your pre-made button sequence is brokeded? I just don't get it...
  6. The liquid splashed on to the much exposed skin of the exotic ninja and soon after, he was sent into a fit of convulsions from the charge of the taser. Jase collapsed to the ground, unable to control his body.

Common ninja tactic: misdirection. For all intents and purposes, the child with the super soaker saw Jase go down but the trick caused him to believe he hit when it truly didn’t. ((Placate trick))

"I thought you said he was cool?" the Khelari remarked to Rosiland
“I am,” Jase replied, resting a light arm on one of her shoulders, as if he’d been there the entire time…or perhaps he was, it was hard to tell. “I just wasn’t going to let you mess everything up with your meddling.” He took his arm off the were-human with a sigh, “Do you guys even know what’s going on here? Why are you so adamant about interfering anyway? It’s like getting involved in a family feud; it’s not our business.”

Not one to pass up a kill though, Jase drew a fist full of shuriken from his belt, “However, there are crimes to be paid here so let’s get to business.”

I've started all kinds of RWZ raids simply by walking into the zone, giving a broadcast and shout out in a couple high pop global channels, and sending tells to unteamed people the stating "Mothership raid forming; come to RWZ for invite" via the search function (however bad the search function may actually be). Some of them might not respond, but there are almost always enough to get the 2-3 full teams necessary to get the raid running. When you start taking down pylons, ask a few of your teammates to continue broadcasting and sending tells to people, trying to make sure not to bug anyone too much.

I've met a number of people that lament the lack of RWZ raids while completely forgetting that they are perfectly capable of starting one themselves. If you want to raid, but can't find one, form one.
Here's the thing: I don't like forming teams. Especially for TF/SFs. That's just how I am. And notice I didn't complain that there weren't enough people doing ship raids, I just said I didn't see any broadcasts or receive any /tells for one.

Just like I'm not going to suggest people that don't want to play stalkers to roll up one or implore more players to try PvP, I don't want to be told to do something I don't enjoy doing.

My perspective: I only have 1 character that I want to deck out in vanguard stuff. Got him to lvl 38 and started to get on that task. I started the first arc (getting through more than several door missions) and defeated any rikti I saw between missions and looked at my merits. "WOOT! 150something!" Went to go buy my shield and couldn't. Turns out I was looking at my *normal* merits. *scrolls down* 14 vanguard merits...well ****.

I'm not going to complain or crusade for a change but hell, this is going to take forever...and it's not like I'm anti-social. If I hear shouts for RWZ *anything*(or any other TF randomly shouted, really), I'm on it but since I started spending my time there, I haven't heard any such shouts on Protector.

Hey, if anyone knows of anykind of stuff like RWZ stuff on Protector, hit me up

After reaching for the congressman earlier, Jase’s grasp, having apparently missed, accidentally dropped a kunai knife from his imaginary sleeve. “Woops,” he muttered with a little smile. As the lizard man and the dog discussed the congressman back and forth, Jase just shifted his eyes from one and then the other and then down to the knife stabbed into the ground with his hand still reaching but now only at air. He continued to look on innocently enough.

Jase’s reaching hand changed to half a Zai hand sign. “I’m afraid I can’t let you do that, Dave,” Jase replied in a smooth voice through a wide smile. His other hand had already been down at his side but now he opened a palm to the ground. It was more or less, one fast action as none of it required extraneous movement. Acid’s shadow, who at first was right next to him but now was a small ways away, stretched across the ground to right below his hand and so instantly the ninjutsu was complete.

Certain natural properties and laws must be abided by without exception. Although some rules can be bent, like gravity and the ability for some inhabitants of Paragon to fly, only those that have learned and mastered these phenomenon know how the laws can be bent. Everyone else is bound by these laws without exception. One law being a being an its shadow. Once cast, a shadow can only move with respect to whomever casts it but this ninjutsu reverses that. Jase assaulted Acid’s shadow, which was now stretched over the kunai knife in the ground, paralyzing it. This effect would translate directly to Acid himself.

“I was nice enough to let you do your little detective act but seeing as you didn’t discover anything I didn’t already know, I’ll be taking the old man now." The shadows underneath the congressman began reaching to pull him through the darkness and to Jase's side.

    - Knockback triggered Controller Containment
    - Enemies that fall a long distance because of a knockback took major damage for the "uncontrolled fall"
    - Enemies that hit an obstacle while being knocked back take damage as if they fell the same distance (this is an old rule used in many table top games to handle "wind" type powers)
    - Foes could be knocked into obstacles on the map. (Is there a superhero movie somewhere where the villain *doesn't* get knocked into a vat of acid?)
    - Enemies suffered -Range for several seconds after standing back up, so that they *have* to run back at you, instead of standing back up and shooting you with their superior range
    - Powers (maybe in an Optional Power Pool) were available that gave enemies resistance to knockback, but not defense, so that they fall over instead of fly (e.g. some kind of garrote trick where you trap their legs and they trip rather than fly backward). Put it in a Power Pack and we'll pay you ten bucks for it. Hah.
    I like your thinking.

One thing I always thought would be cool: certain attacks or powers generate alternate/greater effects when a foe is knocked down.

Off the top of my head of effects to add when used on a knocked down foe:
Crippling Axe Kick- +30% critical hit chance. Because then it's not only a precision axe kick, it's a bloody *stomp*!
Roots/Entangle- +50% chance of mag2 hold. Tell me the difference between wrapping vines around a standing foe's body and entangling a fallen foe with vines where their feet should be.
Energy Blast- +40% of additional smashing dmg. To can the term 'Blast 'em into the ground'.

    QFT!

Another thing I don't get: Attack Chains. Who the heck actually uses a static attack chain without deviation? Do they just have a line of mobs lined up to smack down one by one and therefore never need to 'stop' attacking to move from spawn to spawn or foe to foe and therefore interrupt this perpetual cycle? Do they not use AoEs at opportune times? Or use a weaker attack when the foe is almost defeated? Does clicking the same cycle of buttons *NOT* get boring!?

    WHERE'S THE LOGIC!?!?

  16. Off to the far corner of the big student party, Ian Kelly slouched in a chair by himself. Occasionally, his eyes shifted to the goings-on of the other students but then sank back to his feet. “*Sigh* Why am I even here?” he huffed to himself, rolling his eyes at the group having a great time at the semester-end party. Even though he wanted to be invisible, Ian did dress to impress; a dab of cologne on his neck, his uniform was neatly pressed and his tie casually loosened which gave him a laid back look. He rested his black uniform coat across one leg and is elbow rested on the other to prop his head up (and he still kept his bokken at his side just in case). Overall, he seemed miserable.

Since the happenings at the start of the previous school session, Ian has been working especially hard to lay low. At best, his friends would just assume he disappeared or moved to another school and at worse, he would seem like he was intentionally avoiding anyone he knew. Ian just wanted to forget issues from then and start with a new slate this semester, but with the curse looming over him, he knew there were still issues to resolve.

“Hey! Ian!” came a shout from Ian’s left, “What’s up, man?”

Ian met the voice with a raised eyebrow. It was Darren, a junior and one of the guys of the popular clique. Ian occasionally helped the guy with his algebra homework but it was more of a one-way friendship. You know, one stumbles upon the other in the library and bugs him to help study. “Heh, hi,” Ian mumbled back.

“What’s the matter?” Darren asked, handing the reclusive swordsman a styrofoam cup. “Cheer up, buddy! Hey, I know. There’s a friend of mine and I was telling her about you. She seems interested so why don’t ‘cha go talk to her?” After a nudging elbow to Ian’s shoulder, Darren finished off his own cup.

“No thanks, I think I’ll pass,” Ian sighed as he stared in his cup.

Apparently not taking no for an answer, Darren pulled Ian up by the arm and drug him through the crowd to his waiting group of friends by the punch bowl table. ‘Hi’s were exchanged and hands shook but Ian kept his dejected demeanor. As the group chatted away, Ian kept to himself, sipping his cup of punch to keep himself occupied. Soon, more students joined the party and it got a bit crowded and, seemingly from some random person, another cup of punch was handed his way.
  17. Also, anyone participating in the thread. Don't be afraid to add your character to the SH101 wiki. You don't have to finish it but starting it would be grand.

And if you have any pointers in making it neater/better looking please share. I'd like to keep the character pages in a uniform format.

If you don't want to do the page yourself, or don't know how, then you can send me a write-up of what you want included on your page. A pic would be great too, especially if you drew it yourself. Cause then I can bug you to make a map for Lakeview and Golden Eagle High (I'd attempt it myself but I'm still playing around with how to use wikias).
  18. No, the thread just stopped. I guess that explains it then.
  19. Another question: I would have sworn Nurse Bastian was attending Golden Eagle high to keep an eye on Billyboy (I think they were from the same city, supergroup and everything). So why is she still here?
  20. Flashback!!!!

I believe you're thinking of (can't remember the posters name atm)'s Asphalt Angels gang. That is a special group of characters for that poster only. If you want to use that group you need to ask permission.
  21. I don't recall any. Trying to think back on the enemies we faced:

    -Standard Skulls
    -Standard Hellions
    -Clockwork that weren't really clockwork
    -Standard Circle of Thorn
    -Fir Bolg
    -Crey
    ....um, wow my memory stinks...

Oh, and one student was a Troll and he had troll buddies but I don't think they were enemies.

I dunno, EG. Super strength is a staple of comic books and all that basically is is over-the-top knocking/flinging crap around. To put it simply: SS = KB in comics.

If you show someone punching another guy, how do you express in static panels that the strength of that punch isn't normal. A.) the target flies back or B.) the body explodes in gore. Because simply knocking the person out isn't 'super' strength (anyone with normal strength can do that).

Outside of strength, potency is often expressed by knockback. A bullet through the chest? The force may not knock you back but the shock may send you back and even falling down, not dead or unconsious but unable to stand.

And if it has an explosion in it, that's just a big sack of knockback. Period.

And let's not forget the ever popular mechanic that isn't quite possible in the CoX game due to clipping and collision detection mechanics not quite supporting it.

The Empower combo is specifically to boost damage for *after* AS scrapping. That's why it last 20sec (instead of 10sec like the others). Also, if you think about it, you're getting +dmg for your upcomming critical strike (because you just used placate). It makes sense.

What doesn't make sense, to me, is linking Sweep to BU and AS when BU and AS is the start of another combo.

Something like AS > Sweeping > Ablating perhaps? So while BU is recharging, you can do the Sweep combo instead?

But besides all that, the combos work decently well and yet don't impose on personal style/choice. You can choose to get the combos or ignore them. AS gives you the ST burst that Dual Blades lacks for other melees, and 1kCuts from hide gives you AoE that most stalkers lack from their primary.

Offering my opinion on what the OP should choose: Ninja Blade also has +def as it's utility. If you pick a secondary that will greatly benefit from it, pick that. If you have a secondary that is already defense focused, it's more of a toss up. Sure, everyone benefits from +def but sets that lack any (Elec Armor, Regen, Dark Armor) or has other things to stack with it (Willpower) will benefit more. The defense secondaries (Energy Aura, Ninjutsu, Super Reflexes) would probably benefit more from the amount of knockdown from Dual Blades.
