*shrug* it's a bunch of people rushing to judgement based on a few screenshots, what did you expect?
The commentary that matters will happen once Closed Beta begins. Until then this is pretty much white noise. -
All 4 Melee ATs (2 hero/2 Villain) get these sets. That's been posted almost everywhere (including along with the pictures)

The Willpower seems more ostentatious than what I previously desired,

Hard to say. Those shots both look like captures during "activation" moments. The powers while running may be much much more subdued.
I'll be very curious to see how this set differentiates itself from Energy Aura, because except for a slightly less orangy pallette, those look pretty similar. -

Oh, boy. I can see it now the first time someone complains about CoV, there are going to be 1500 people flaming, trolling and name calling. Woo Hoo!
Great move.

Make a legitimate statement about problems shouldn't elicit any more problems than normal.
It's when the complaint is peppered with inflammatory comments and allegations that the reasons behind the problem is some kind of CoV hatred conspiracy, that people get irked. That would happen anywhere on these forums, not just in CoH General.
Keep it simple, don't talk like tinfoil hat people. -
I don't recall it ever being tried. I know there was a time we didn't have a second one.
CoV general was created when there was a lot of traffic and a lot of learning curve. That's not the case anymore, and most discussions end up being redundant in some way. -
Yup, you guys covered a lot of it. Having some ideas about what you'd like to write, or what you are interested in, help us a lot.
We have some ongoing ideas we haven't started yet, but if they're not something you're interested in, it helps to have backup ideas. -
That's ok, serpent does not equal snake. Ourouboros is traditionally a serpent or dragon, and most images have ears/horns.

This makes me sad. You have proven to be amazingly helpful over the last couple of years. Not just in the work you do on the websites, but for all the questions and things you do behind the scenes.
Storytime: One of the first times I got in touch with you was about a minute little detail regarding the exact date the Omega Team went through to the Rikti Homeworld. The website only listed "November" and I was hoping to have a memorial service event ingame. There was no answer for a couple weeks, and I kind of assumed it had gotten lost in the shuffle. It didn't bother me, because I know that isn't supposed to be a big part of your job.
Well all of a sudden there was a reply sitting in my PM box from you. It hadn't been a matter of looking up a date in the secret book or something, you had to bring it up in a meeting and a day had to be decided on. I was agog about it when you told me that it was the unofficial official day, because they reserved the right to change it if they needed to for an official publication or something, but you had gotten me the info! Call me geeky but it made my week. It's on the list of dev things you guys have done that make this place special for me, and I wanted you to know it meant a lot. I'll always remember it, and I'll always remember you.
You've been a great help to the community. You've been a great help to me. You can always write up something for the City Scoop any time you want to.
Thanks Jesse, best of luck. -
Hurray for continuing to ignore every discussion on Power Customization that's ever been had!

That is not lesser. That is precisely what has been proposed in the past, and shot down.
No matter how few options, it's still a doubling or tripling of what exists now.
No matter how few options, it's still something that requires a new system to store, edit, and transmit that information from user/server/viewers.
You're not saving them any work by proposing that there are only 3 options per powerset.
They've tested exactly what you're asking for. That's why there are red and yellow versions of some standard Energy Blast powers. They redo the power in a new color and based on that they can do simple addition to see how long it would take to do all powers. They've done it. -
Nope, the feature they're building does not allow for that.

I lose a lot of time just trying to accurately retype user names like "glkkglgk2ks" w/o errors - and I'm not even talking about having to scroll back up through incoming messages on various channels to find the spam handle again....).

Hit Backspace as if replying to the Tell. Delete the comma, and then replace the /t with /ignore_spammer
Unless you're in the midst of receiving several tells from people and get a new one before you can ignore the spammer, this is a flawless way to replicate their name with little effort on your part. -
It's got to be more than just changing colors. Changing colors for some sets is lame or impractical since they'd never look right. Changing color for Earth Control? Plant?
Again, radical oversimplification on your part.
But anyway, while DarqAura said something pertinent, it misses the main thrust of my post. There's radical considerations and changes that have to be made when the programmers come up with a way to answer the following question:
How do we tell every other player in sight that Player A just fired off a Yellow fireball with green highlights, and Player B just fired off a Green Snowflake Freezing Rain, and do it in a way that doesn't end up causing enough latency so that they are lagged for the entire duration of the newly colored effect in the first place? -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't think that it won't fit in the game engine. They HAVE implemented changes to colors. It is the time factor that is the hump to overcome. If, perhaps, the armachair designers postulated theories about how to cut production time, that might be productive. They know how to implement PC. They just don't know how to do it quickly.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're forgetting the other big hurdle to PC, Information Propagation. The reworking of the effects is the biggest hurdle, but it is by no means the only big hurdle.
When Issue 8 came out, a lot of people were spontaneously disconnecting on teams. As far as we can tell, it was happening because they had made a change that increased the amount of data being sent back and forth between players. Just one small change in the way the client/server passes data back and forth led to regular crashes.
PC would lead to a large increase in the amount of data being passed. Instead of shorthand that says "this guy has these 6 powersets, you know what those all look like go to town" the programmers need to come up with a way to pass that specific color info for each and every different power someone customizes, to every other player that can see it. If they do the bulk of it when someone loads into a zone, then you're looking at longer load times. And then they still have to pass fresh data when someone new comes in. If they do it dynamically there's a lot more data flying around. You think a Bots/FF can cause graphical slowdown now? Just wait until each rank of robot has custom blast colors, altered looks, and all the bubbles are customized for a Skittles Rainbow.
One of the strongpoints of the game is the speed of combat even when several players are around. Not just PvP, but PvE. Tinkering with that for the sake of new shininess alone is a dangerous Pandora's Box.
This is the crux of it: People who want this look at the issue with rose colored glasses, and consistently minimize the difficulties. I don't say that to be insulting, but it's obvious. People who are ambivalent to it (like me) look at it pragmatically, and can see a lot of the problems, and make the decision (for ourselves) that it probably wouldn't be good for the game. -
Even if she isn't, I'm not admitting it to myself, so shut up. It's kinda like my post BillZ denial syndrome.

Personally, I'd rather have multiple power customization threads, so that each new idea can have a chance to be fully fleshed out, and can enjoy the full attention of those following the thread.
The posts along the lines of "I want blue fior!" aren't too helpful, but the posts that suggest a different possible implementation are, in my opinion, useful. I would hate to see all of them consolidated into a single thread where it becomes difficult to discuss each idea individually.
[/ QUOTE ]
you don't mean.... Power Customization Thread Customization?!?! -
Ok, I'm going to be blunt. Your name isn't red, you don't get to decide what's an official thread. You don't need to tell people here, there, and everywhere to post only in your special Snowflake thread. Just bite your lip and wait until Monday for the Moderators to deal with it, because all you are doing is contributing to the mess. You're making repeated redundant and offtopic posts in multiple threads. Adding another thread of your own on top of all the other threads just exacerbates the existing problem.
If you have such a hard time with forum regulars who try to tell people their post about power customization is redundant, you can't justify doing the EXACT same thing when someone chooses not to do it in YOUR SPECIAL THREAD.
You say it's for the good of the forum and the community? You folks don't accept that argument when someone like me uses it to point out that multiple threads are redundant, so why should you get to use it?
Simple truth is, you need to just flat out stop posting about it until Monday at the soonest. Let the mods prune the deadwood. Let the community reps decide if there should be an official thread. Turn your back on the forums and take a breath, because you're acting exactly like the people you like to condemn for disagreeing about Power Customization. -
Please take my post out. Link to the thread if you wish, where the entire discussion (including the fact that my idea was nixed officially) exists in full. Just having my idea there like it's still a viable option is yet another distortion of the facts.
Also if you are going to have Positron's answer about Power Customization from the Warcry interview, you need to include the clarification he made in the forums a day or two after, which was even more explicit.
