Quote:That quote is only applicable to life within the Rogue Isles. Lord Recluse has a vested interest in his tax paying labor forces. Citizens of Paragon? Not so much. From Know Your Adversary:
It sounds to me like your team definitely crossed the line, and would have swift retribution, far greater than simply getting "chewed out".
Have you looked over the Canon Fodder thread? Maybe thought about getting some clarification from Manti? -
Quote:Truthfully, I do think it was unneeded. If Recluse didn't want people to do everything they could on a Mayhem spree, he wouldn't let them happen. It was a small area of a big city, and it was cordoned off and dealt with by the PPD, and if they didn't drive them off, they at least contained things to that small area.
Anybody think that was an unfair portrayal, esp given the over the top actions of the brutes and the reaction it could provoke?
You have to remember, as bad as it may seem to someone in our world, this isn't our world. We're farther away from 9/11 than Paragon is from the Rikti War. The city and it's citizens are more like post WWII Berlin or London than NYC after 9/11. Compared to Statesman using Rikti Motherships as frisbees, a few blocks of smashed cars and one (if you got the arson) burning building is nothing. The Brutes may have overloaded Medicom in the short term and hurt some PPD, but that's what they signed up for.
It's a superhero's world. The threshhold for shock and awe is higher than you've got it set. -

Quote:There's a difference between a 50 who shows up out of the blue to "help" and someone willing to join the team and exemp down. Some people may like the assistance from above/behind/beyond but my feeling is this:Good to see all the good stories.
But your positive reaction to a lvl 50 helping out in the sewers is adding confusion to my brain. Just last week I saw someone complaining on these boards about that very thing. It was a "leave us alone! We don't need your high and mighty help!".
I regularly go on "buff patrol" to help out in pre-14 areas but had been worried I was just p*ssing people off. I guess you just can't please everyone and will make someone mad no matter what you do.
Even as a lowbie, when I'm playing I want to play, not be hand held. There's a reason heals aren't as big and cool buffs aren't available at the low levels when those sewer foes are a challenge. They make it trivial. Trivial is boring.
Feel free to pitch in, join the team, and help out, but don't be surprised when people take the "help" the wrong way if you're buffing from outside the team. -
Quote:1) Treats you as the size of your setting or the size of your team, whichever is higher. I don't think it is possible to get larger than normal spawns for a team of 8 anymore, but I could be wrong.1) I think it will treat you as the higher of your actual team size or your difficulty team size; however, it might just add them and cap at 9 (like an 8-man team on Tenacious/Unyielding before I16). I'm not certain.

Quote:Out of curiosity, how long of a break? Hours, days? And the key question, did you install or uninstall anything else in the meantime?Greetings,
I recently download the trial version and really enjoyed it: Got my first toon to lvl 13!
However, last night when I tried to log in after taking a break, the updater worked fine but the loading screen just hung there and the program became unresponsive. After reloading the software and two more attempts I finally logged in and played till about 2am. -
Quote:I do, but it takes knowing a little about how the game is developed to know why.I just don't think an explanation of whether this is temporary or not is very much to ask for.
A) the devs avoid making promises whenever they can
B) their definition of temporary is very different than the typical player
C) they won't know if this change can be changed until they schedule time for it in their planning for the next issue(s). Changing it more than likely involves an extensive look at the entire Difficulty/Challenge Settings system, otherwise whatever they do is just another stopgap. Since they work weeks and months in advance, they can't say when they'll be able to schedule that. Until they can, there's absolutely zero point in getting uptight or expecting an immediate answer.
Short answer, there's that sense of perspective I was talking about again. -
- Join an active badge hunting channel on your server. If you can't find one, join one from another server to get answers to your questions.
- look at badges that fit well together when you're planning how to get them. In other words, there's no point hunting in the open to get Silver Bullet if you're going to run the Moonfire TF at some point.
- keep your eye on the real world calendar. There's no point fighting the day night timer of the game to get your BP Masks badge, if the Halloween event is coming in a few weeks and permanent night is about to fall.
In other words, badge smarter, not harder. -
Quote:If you were kidding, it wasn't that funny. If you weren't I'm sorry for you.We should be given free purples every month for which we play after all these years, when there are so many better games without controlling community members and nerfing devs in them. That would be reasonable... and some booster packs on a weekly basis. I could make those. The amount of work I do in a day is insane compared to how long it takes to get those packs out in this game. I love the ones they've released but still ...
I'm kidding but really I'm not. Or am I? -
Quote:I in fact do run such TFs. It's not the only or even the majority of what I do, but when I run, it's usually on high settings. Even so, I don't see it as a big deal. Primarily because I look at the game as a whole instead of what's best for me or the small subset of people who play like me. Give it a try sometime.I realise this wasn't aimed at me, but I have to say this. Point A there is just pure opinion. Sure, if you're not someone who runs a lot of TFs and SFs on high difficulty, of course it's not that bad. For those of us who do this as a major part of our gameplay, it's a pretty big deal.

I see a significant difference between being able to disable the entire system (what you're stopping in the WW Defender mission) and being able to disable a couple of zones at a time for short periods on a sporadic basis.

Quote:Wasn't your entire point that if people wanted to do something harder, they should get rewarded for it? You really are talking out of both ends now. Stop for a second and think about the number of people who run regular missions and use the difficulty system every day, and the number of people who run TFs. If you think for a second that TFs are the majority of the content run, then I've figured out who needs the stronger meds this time.Recipes are STILL dropping though. It isn't like they completely removed recipes a couple patches ago.
Simple fact is, this patch may not be the best solution, but it's helping the most possible peeps in the time they have. Until they can do better, then you're better off filing diligent, complete, and reasoned Bug Reports than you are ranting in the forum, calling people names, and implying that the people who made this patch deserve death. -
Explain to me how the reverse isn't true also? You're freaking and jumping up and down because of a change that makes your game a bit less fun, and can't for a second see that on the whole A) the change isn't that bad and B) there are other good things coming that outweigh the pain for the time being. If Cat's the selfish one here, I need stronger meds.

Which is probably the main reason you haven't seen it much. Most costume options get used the most in the first 6 months after they come out, then slowly see less and less use as things replace them. I actually once planned on making a character named Fashion Plate that would wear the "hot" look each time a new one was added.

Quote:I've been seeing more people in my global channels than for a long time before that. I've had some friends who went to play Aion, but they will be back for Going Rogue. I've been able to get a team when I want one.
i don't know why people are giving you a hard time with this,it's obvious player number are down. -

Quote:There's the gist of your problem. If you're relying on Broadcast and Search to find people, you're not going to get the best results. People hide from search now that we can, because they don't like Blind Invites, or don't want spammers to have access to their name for their emails or tells.Look,
I'm not putting the game down. Just noticed server load was different.
Also as far as people congregating, I was not referring to that. I was referring to the fact that when I used to log on or put a broadcast out that I was looking for a team, I would get like 10 to 20 tells or invites. Even when I search it seems like before there were 10-15 people looking for something, now search comes up with hardly anybody. Also, I used to notice a constant chat stream in the broadcast chat window and now nobody and I mean nobody is chatting. Just seemed dead to me, that's all. Another example is that I logged on tonight and got a tell asking for a team so I said yes. Then the guy comes back on and says couldn't find more. Then I asked him what was going on and that it seems like the place was empty and even he said and I quote, "Tell me about it".
I didn't post this thread to bash the game or say COH was dying. Just asking since I had been away for a little bit. Also, as far as catching up on patches, I never had to before because the player community was so awesome in helping. I hope COH community isn't getting like the WOW community (Rude). COH was a game you could just jump in to and everybody helped everybody even on getting up to date. As a matter of fact it I ranked it the best as far as a social MMO. Now the environment seems to be getting less social.
Look, I'm just stating my experience in coming back and honestly, it is not turning out to be a good one.
Broadcast may have been busy in certain zones the last time you played, but that only ever happens in a few zones at a time, and even then, not often. This game has always been about being inside missions (where zone broadcast isn't seen) and now with the enhanced difficulty settings, people don't have to search for pads, and can spend a lot more time in missions instead of transiting.
No one is trying to be rude to you, they're just explaining how life ingame works. It's best to find an active Global Channel because people use them no matter where they are. From there, it's a good idea to find an active supergroup. For this kind of information, a good first stop would be the section of the forums devoted to your server.
Last piece of advice, when you do find people you like, global friend them. I've found that people are often very willing to character hop to hang out even if they're on the other side or at a different level. -
Quote:A single bind works, however they don't all turn on with a single keypress. You need to press the key once for each toggle and it will turn them on in order. Still ends up being quicker and easier than each button on a toolbar though.Note: I've not actually tried combining multiple toggles into a single bind, so for the sake of animations/activation times on toggles, you may not be able to combine multiple toggles, or some might mesh together where others don't. If not, then you could set up multiple binds for each of your toggles. Best suggestion is to use the Numpad keys, but use what works best for you.

Thank you for attempting to derail the actual topic of the thread. I won't comment on whether I agree/disagree with your suggestions, I will just say they belong in another thread.

I was gonna write a big long thing, but basically others have covered most of the bases. ATs aren't balanced on a narrow set of parameters, and the overall performance of them in this game is actually pretty close. No AT is particularly suffering at this point, and most of the truly needed changes exist on the underperforming powersets level.
If you really want to fix a broken game balance wise, go look at Champions. That game is toppled and scattered when it comes to balance. Fair warning- the design decisions there have Arcanaville scratching her head, you're not likely to have an easier time.
