  1. Like I said, a goodly portion of the things talked about were also specifically mentioned to not be part of GR. That means chances are, they will be in 17, 18, or farther in the future. So I guess I'm saying, I don't get how you are saying they only talked about GR just because they didn't garble the message by doing a rollout of I17 at the same time.

Since part of the problem is the tech involved in listing power pools in the editor based on what you picked, it's not just a matter of creating no fx scripts.

We dont need to compromise, we just need to be patient. What you're asking for isn't a compromise, it's a stopgap measure.

Which is why I posted it for discussion. I don't fear disagreements in this forum, and I seek to make my idea better through collaboration. I'm a smart guy, but I don't pretend to think of everything all the time.

All that being said, do you have anything constructive to contribute?

    Glowie Emotes

I was thinking of the Trash cans in Pocket D, and the Slag Golems when I thought of that.
  5. A lot of the things revealed at Hero Con were specifically NOT tied to Going Rogue. Power Pool Customization, Electricity Control, Getting Base Raiding Back, to name a few things. It's safe to assume some or all of those will be coming in the next several issues.

I think you're overestimating the amount of time between now and GR, the chances of 3 issues worth of stuff in one full year, much less half a year is unrealistic to say the least.

There's almost never a new issue in November and December, because of Holiday events, and the traditional Dev vacation over the real world holidays. Actually I mean, there isn't one launched when we haven't already heard about it before October. It's problematic to have a good Beta Test this time of year, and that's what would have to happen to get a new issue out in January or February.

Basically, unless the devs specifically listed it as a Going Rogue feature, there's nothing to say it will be. Side Switching, Ultra Mode, Praetoria zone(s) and the new powersets are specifically GR. Most other things are indeterminate.

    Glowie Emotes

Just had a neat idea for the game as a whole, and the Mission Architect. Just an neat little immersion thing I thought might be workable.

Right now, you click on a glowie, and watch the bar. However many times, we have appropriate emotes that exist already in the player repetoire. We also already have certain objects that trigger an emote when clicked on (Crafting Tables). So, simple <insert standard code rant here> combination of two things:

Code objects in missions, and let players code objects in their missions, so that appropriate emotes trigger while the glowie is being clicked. For example:

Searching a bookcase, use the book reading emote.
Looking at a bulletin board, use the emote that has a character pointing his finger and examining.
Searching a computer triggers the tapping a keyboard emote (without the laptop)

To flesh the feature out some, maybe create a few special emotes:

-Searching a trashcan, has a player kneel down and toss garbage over his shoulders (using PhysX effects to generate real trash a bonus)
-for the glowies that are "destroying" the object, maybe a variety of tearing apart emotes, with debris made by PhysX. Not Destructible object goals, but glowies the player wants to call "destruction"

Within the MA, players would be able to pick from 1-3 emotes per object, if there are appropriate ones available. Similar to coding an emote for the NPCs in a spawn.

This isn't storyline, this isn't QoL, this isn't major in any way. Just seems like a doable way to increase immersion.

Are there some tricks or techniques I'm missing?
My technique is to be thorough as I go through the first time, instead of going all the way back through.
-Clear each room carefully, watch for runners.
-Wait for any I may not have seen to come back.
-Look in side rooms, behind doors, etc.
-Hit Tab a lot while you are looking, don't rely on just your eyes.
-Don't forget to look up. Also take advantage of being up to look down.
-Take special care against foes that spawn extras, like DE, Rikti
-Also foes where things disappear like CoT, arachnos, Longbow. Wait for them to reappear.
-Also watch foes that self rez. Stare down every body to make sure it fades.
-Here's a big one: Watch NPC chatter! When you enter a new room/level it can often be a good clue to spawns that may be in a slightly unusual spot. Spin your camera until you can see the chat bubble in the center of your screen that gives a general idea of the direction. NPC chatter also serves as a good indicator of Patrols or Ambushes. It often pays me off to have Chatter in it's own little chat window with channels that don't say much (like Zone events and Wentworths).

If those things still end you up looking, then instead of bouncing like a pinball when you're looking, move slowly and methodically. Stand in unusual spots, open your map and make sure you've gone everywhere. All those things together should lead you to a lot less time and frustration on Kill Alls. Usually the only time I've needed to call a GM is when a monster escapes outside the boundaries of the wall somehow.

My most annoying where the hell is it search is a funny one though. You know how Devouring Earth pop up little Mini-me versions of themselves? Well once I was on an office map, and one of the Green Crystal guys did that. It was in a little side nook and I missed it happening on my first pass. The little guy spawned behind one of the potted plants. Even worse it was a tall spiky plant that looked just like his head. I was looking for a ... long time before Tabbing picked him up.

More specifically, you start in Praetoria and choose your side within that area's content (Resistance or Loyalist) and as you progress through that stuff you eventually reach the end and choose Hero or Villain. The way they make it sound, it's like things are reversible at any stage, they just take work.
  9. Its a day and time thing for me. Just sometimes that happens. What I do is stop the page that is hanging, and load again. That usually works.
  10. I've gotten the buffs more than once. I think it's safe to assume you can get the others again, but I'm only 99.9% sure.

Sheesh. It's simple. When it comes to Big Lists of everything we want, they've been knocking out the biggest things on the list one after another for the last 2 years, and well into next year based on what we've seen.

You keep coming and saying that they should have done different stuff all you like. That doesn't make you sound like anything other than an ingrate though.

Never offically. Last we heard was they knew it was a very popular choice (in the powerset poll they did) and they'd do everything they could to make it work.

    Moar Merits!

Quick little idea I had, that I see no downside on really.

Have every accolade that doesn't have a power associated with it, grant 2-5 Merits. Heck, maybe even the ones that do have powers.

Theoretically it's even possible to come up with a formula to figure out roughly how long it would take to get each accolade and use the time formula for a one time award, like a story arc. That's not needed though.

Just a nice little bump that turns those empty Accolades into something more than Just Another Badge.

    Invention Sets

Don't get us wrong. RoTP is a great power. the best of the self rez powers. However it's very situational. Usually that means it doesn't need a lot of slots. It really depends on how often you plan on dying. Keep the power, shift the slots, thats my advice.

    Invention Sets

    Quote:
Lock em down and nuke them.
If that's your goal, you should consider a respec.

6 Slots in Wormhole. Look at Stun and knockback sets for a good mix/match of bonuses.
6 Slots in Crushing Field- this is a big source of AoE damage you don't take advantage of.
5-6 Slots in Freezing Rain- Depending on what sets you look at. Definitely get an Achille's Heel- Chance for Resistance Debuff in it though.
6 slots in Tornado- This is a big source of damage on tightly packed foes, and Grav is a master at tightly packing foes.

The approximate procedure is as follows. Wormhole an entire group into a corner. Drop Snowstorm, Crushing Field, Freezing Rain, and Tornado on them. Then worry about other attacks like Fireball and Lightning Storm, but remember to spam Crushing Field since it recycles very fast.

If Grav Distortion Field is available (it won't be for every spawn unless you get a lot of Recharge bonuses from sets, and Hasten) use that right after you wormhole instead of CF, because the -KB effect in the Hold will hold everything nice and tight and the Tornado will wreck them all.

This isn't a specific build I've given you, and I probably won't. I'm not expert enough in those sets together to build it. I have an Illusion Storm, and I have a Gravity Kinetic both at 50 and have a pretty good idea on how to make things awesome though.

As others said though, you can get good advice in the Controller forum.
    Good Bonuses to focus on:
    Knockback Protection for yourself
A Stealth IO to put somewhere and stack with your Steamy Mist, for Full invisibility in most cases.
Global Recharge for all your powers
Bonus Recovery to keep your End up with the new faster build.

    Good Luck!

So unless the devs come up with some good lore for Croatoa, I'll make my own and call it unofficial.
Which is exactly why they leave some wiggle room. Stories are better when not everything gets spelled out and tied up with a little bow. It's a much more engaging experience.

By all means, go write your stories, then build them into game missions in the MA. When you're done let me know. I'll play them.

However I think their time would be far better served finishing some of the stories that really are criminally underwritten, instead of going back to one of the more complete storyline zones they have. Just from experience ingame and on these forums, I know a lot of people are really interested to know the full story of Dark Astoria, or the conclusion to the return of the 5th Column and the Oncoming Storm.

Great big story gaps that need bricks will get my vote before decently built walls that need a patch coat, any day.
  18. Wonder if the transit service in Praetoria has actual buses that go to those bus stops. That would be a huge step up and a sure sign they are evil.

But you know what sucks the most? This doesn't have to be this way! There is NO reason why these clumps of useless wastes of time has to exist. There's no reason why Security chiefs have to be mandatory, no reason why PvP zone visits can't be staggered a little bit, or made optional for veteran players. There's no reason why I need to be ordered to visit contacts before anyone will give me missions again when just adding these contacts to my list would be BETTER. These are not just how things go. They're problems that have no justifiable reason to exist, or exist still, at the very least. It's like not only are they wasting my time, they're wasting my time for absolutely NO reason whatsoever.
Of course there's a reason they still exist. It's called a budget and a schedule. They have to make hard choices sometimes. When deciding between tweaking old hero contacts so they don't hand out pointless missions to the occasional vet who chooses to give it a try (even though they should know nothing has been changed), over making new missions that everyone can enjoy, the option is kind of a no brainer.

I don't disagree with you that they could be fixed and the experience improved. Do I think that leaving them the way they are is horrible awful no good thing and they're big stupid heads for not doing it? Hell no. Not when I take a few seconds and look at all the good stuff we've gotten instead.

I'm gonna remind you of one of those things I've reminded you of before Sam. Take a look at the big picture. You know you're not good at putting yourself in other people's shoes, so why put yourself in the dev's shoes and say they should have done things differently?

Judging a book by it's cover doesn't count as using your brain. If what you're used to doing to get teams doesn't seem to be working, try different things. If the advice we've given you doesn't work after you've made an honest effort then maybe you're right and we're wrong.

However since I just got done a 6hour run where I ran an ITF, Khan, and Positron TF, all in very early morning thru the early afternoon, you're going to have to really try hard to make me believe you.

I thought the whole point of buying out Cryptic and opening Paragon was that everything related to CoH could be handled in-house. They've gone so far as to transfer people from Austin and the EU to do so. I don't really think there's a lot that gets done in other places any more.
  23. Will there be new mechanics? Yes. Will they be what you're asking about? No one knows.

We do know there will be a new system for post-50 development, and a way to switch sides. How those will apply to new and different missions, and what we may see in Praetoria remains to be seen. Since Hero-con is this weekend, stay tuned for all the goodie announcements that will be hitting the forums soon. A lot of stuff is being hinted to pop at the con.
