You understand correctly. That's they way it works. Doc is saying that a level 10 can't slot a level 50 IO. But a level 50 can slot a level 10 IO (but the level 50 will only get getting a TO's worth of boost out of it. The same amount of boost that a level 10 character would get.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Really? So it really only makes sense to START looking for IOs AFTER you reach level 50 (so you dont have to go out and get the same IO's again) ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would depend on the salvage drop rates, and how quickly and easily you can build wanted IOs. However I would say that it "pays" to slot any IO you can make once the bonus is greater than an SO. In other words, if it's not going to expire, and it's better than what you could buy, and it's easily made, then why the heck not?
  2. Hehe first post is a mea culpa. Somehow that doesn't fit in with the image of your chosen nom de forum.

Good to see you though. Hope it's not too rare an event. We love our dev interaction.
  3. that's sweet of you to say. I'm not even motivated to try and start an argument about how "accidental" it was

Do you and those you play with also develop such running gags, and if so which is your personal favorite?

[/ QUOTE ] Yup. I play with friends a lot, and we do that a lot. Coincidentally, I recently got back in touch with some old college friends, and found out they play CoH. I've had a couple sessions with them again, and it's like old times. In real life I've actually had entire conversations with a friend in "running gag speak" It works great for saying thing's that their wive's won't instantly understand (I'm single but I have a lot of friends who have fallen ).

I think though for me, the best running gags are the one's that transcend the game. For example when I met up with those college friends again. It's been about 10 years. When we were together, we used to play all sorts of different RPGs. One campaign was Shadowrun. Our group we called Bink Inc. As I remember, we used to cause our GM headaches. We ended up instituting a series of rules for dealing with different situations. Rule #1 was "Whatever it is, Don't." which quickly got shortened to "Don't" or "DON'T!" or "Don't you knob!" depending on the circumstances. Well when I met these guys again and made an alt on Justice to hang a bit. I got an SG invite to Bink Inc. And I looked at the SG window, and right there in the motto screen was "Rule #1- Don't" It kinda brought a little tear to my eye seeing that (as well as a series of flashbacks).

So, I think the answer is.... yes?

I have other favorites too, many with friends I've made since, however I thought of that one first, and it qualifies as an oldy but a goodie.
  7. Ha, you were 31 minutes too slow to catch me. I was off walking the dogs within moments of that post.
  8. Thank god I'm way more swifty nimble than Dee. That and my fur pelt is impervious to all forms of shaving.
  9. There's a big difference between DOOOOOMMMMMM and politely explaining why you didn't like something when you were asked how you feel. No need to mix the two up. One is whining and/or ranting. The other is constructive criticism, particularly when you include thoughts about how to make things better.
  10. I really enjoy any opportunity to mix and match Heroes and Villains. The rewards were nicely done this year as well.
That being said, I echo the sentiment that Snaptooth has almost completely played himself out. However I have a suggestion for the future:

In the course of normal missions within each range of levels there is a randomized table for several different bosses. So even if I do several Arachnos missions in a row, I may see an Executioner, a Night Widow, and Toxic Tarantula.

In the future, even if the structure of the event is fundamentally the same, why not set things up so that Snaptooth teams up with some other Elite Boss types? Then instead of facing off against Snappy 5 times, I get a mix of Snappy, the Gamester, some Mega Carnie Ring Mistress, or a Tsoo Elite Boss, for example.

The mission and it's goals don't even need to change, however the script of the boss and their abilities would be different and it would make the repetition less obvious.

Please continue the annual events. They're nice. I don't even particularly demand new goodies and new foes every year. Just do the best you can to smooth out the most boring aspects of the missions you want us to do.

    Drops II

There are no guarantees that the things tied to story arcs will be something you need.
There is no set in stone rule that you must get everything yourself.
My outlook is this is what the Consignment system is for. I'm sure there will be things you do that will get you very rare things that you have ZERO use for, and would have no problems selling or trading for those things you missed out on.

That's just my take on the matter, I'm not sweating the story arc thing in the slightest. I'll play who I want to play how I want to play them, and let my desire for Inventions sort itself out once I have an actual system in front of me to use.

    Drops II

Not unclear at all. The majority of sets are completable simply by killing. There are a few in the top tiers that require finishing story arcs, TFs, etc.

Note these are the rarest of sets, probably about 1-5% of the total. Also note that the drops under disussion are single pieces of those specific sets.

Chances are you can complete your arcs now with a clear conscience, and then if it turns out to be a set that you want and need, simply trade or buy the part if it comes up for sale.

But again, it's entirely up to you. How important will these sets be? How applicable to your characters? No one knows yet.

    Silly Question:

Do you have to be wearing the cape for it to cause the crash? I often use my capeless costumes, but have caped costumes im not wearing, and I crash.........often.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm pretty sure a cape has to actually be rendered somewhere near you for the cape related crash to occur. I would "assume" capes on costumes not currently in use wouldn't be a problem.

    Assume...

    [/ QUOTE ]

well there's also the whole crashing while teamed thing going on. so it's possible that just being teamed and in the same zone with someone is sending the data that causes the crash. I don't know if the crashing while teamed bug and the cape bug are linked but it's entirely possible.

And just to be clear, it's not necessarily the instant you see a cape on your screen the crash happens.
  14. No, you don't get the damage bonus. Read your combat log, the message is very specific to let you know they do not apply.
  15. It's worked great when I went through the Veluta Lunata missions with it.
Also works great on Tsoo Ancestors.

Do you get the bonus a lot? No, not really, but that's one reason why the Axe has a recharge that's much faster than Sands, as well as a much much shorter animation time that doesn't leave you rooted and vulnerable.

As for Accuracy issues, "seems like" is crap, don't even try to make a point of it unless you're going to use accepted methods to test. It just makes you sound less credible (not that you sound credible at all).
  16. As was said, the tallest building on the island.

PS black text is almost never a good idea unless the forum defaults are a white background.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I still do think publically calling someone a cheat is a bit much.

[/ QUOTE ] I think there's a difference between what you're implying posters here are doing and what I saw most of them saying. It's perfectly legitimate to question someone who got runner-up and won a $120 prize, when the rules were pretty specific, and the pictures we saw didn't appear to match them. People are asking if an exception was made, people are asking if they somehow missed the costume options, etc. In an official thread on the topic, that's not unwarranted at all.

When I noticed it, I chose to ask about it in a PM. But asking about it here is perfectly legitimate.

My take on the whole thing is the costume could have gotten an honorable mention, but no prize. Now that the prize has been awarded, the cat is out of the bag, I think if anything is done it should be to declare another Runner up within the scope of the rules and award a similar prize.

I think people are bothered (rightly so) because it's actually more difficult to make a good looking costume that closely resembles only things available in the character generator. The look of things is very specific, and not often closely matchign real objects, so it's tricker to get a good match. If the rules are widened to include NPCs, well I know people that could make easy matches for some of those costumes just from stuff they have in their drawers. That's why there are questions about it, because rules are there for a reason. No one's saying the person set out to cheat with malice aforethought, they're just wondering why something outside the rules was rewarded, when others were not.
  18. Like the post you quoted said, at the bottom of the thread. You are looking at the bottom of a post. Scroll farther down. All the way down. End of the page.
  19. On the serious side, it is actually a really good idea to do the opposite of 1b.

Inviting Dominators to a mayhem gives the team some good advantages. Depending on their powersets, they get some fast charging AoEs, great for taking out swaths of objects quickly. Also, the PPD and Longbow aren't known for being particularly mezz resistant. Holds, Confuses, or sleeps thrown down on the most annoying mob types makes the trip much smoother (hate those glop grenades like I do? they gain a whole new perspective when they're effecting the other guys ).

Yup, I know the guide was totally tongue in cheek, but I've found my Dominator to be my most effective Mayhem guy, and I wanted to say so.

Or conversly, instead of changing KR to Skulls, change it to Legacy Chain. There aren't enough missions there (IMO, unless doing Virgil's SF) that spawn Lts for that badge. LC is an underused group, IMO, and 10-15 would seem to be an appropriate range for them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The LC is also a mercenary group specific to the Rogue Isles. It's bad enough to have Paragon City street gangs there with no adequately given reason, let's not send RI groups onto Paragon maps for nothing. Which is exactly why I want to see appropriate mobs in normal Paragon areas we would actually see them. It makes more sense to me.
  21. Exactly true. It's not like the people had a choice on the missions, or new how the corrections were going to be corrected once they were. When I got them that way, I'd assumed the badge texts were the error, and the badge text would be changed, not that they would swap out the requirements.

Edit- Tracking back across the entire discussion including the quotes dropped, I'll add this. Yes the badge was awarded due to a bug, but it's entirely possible removing it isn't as simple a matter as removing transdimensional was, for example. I suppose it can remain as an issue, but I'm sure it would have been removed at the time if they could have.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
When was Disruptor ever for missions? That was a different badge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For a month or more after the PvP zones went live. The PvP badges were awarding totally incorrectly for a long time.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
this one isn't as bad as everyone fears IMO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The high count may not be as bad as people fear, but the flawed implementation that makes it easier to cooperate with your enemies instead of people on your own side, at the same time as annoying all other players in the zone, is as bad or worse than feared.

Any badge hunt that doesn't reward legitimate use of the zone is flawed. Any badge hunt that rewards a single player for what is in theory a team task is also flawed. Any badge hunt that can somehow screw up or annoy legitimate users of the zone or even just other badge hunters, is even more flawed. Pillboxes have several strikes against them, and something needs to be done.

I'm not saying hunting for badges isn't a legitimate use of the zone, but I am saying that doing so to the detriment of people who are there to play the zone's minigame as designed and intended isn't, and currently pillboxes make the latter far more common than the former I'm afraid.
  24. I would like to suggest that changing some of the "Door Key" mobs in Mayhem missions would be a step in the right direction when it comes to certain badges. I understand that the level ranges on these suggestions may not jibe with the Mayhems they seem to go best with, but I'm still suggesting them nonetheless:

Atlas Park- change Skulls to Hellions
King's Row- change Clockwork to Skulls
Steel Canyon- change Family to Outcasts
Talos Island- change Freaks to Warriors

I know that Skulls, Hellions, and Warriors all appear in appropriate level Paper missions now, so they are less of an issue, however Outcasts are still a huge villain bottleneck. A badge that is painfully easy for one side is just plain painful for the other, and the easiest opportunity to mitigate it was missed. Seeing the local gangs in maps of Paragon City makes more sense than in one-off newspaper missions in the Rogue Isles when otherwise they have little or no presence.

PS- thanks for adding Warriors, Carnies, and Malta to paper missions, in some cases Villains now have it easier when it comes to certain badges, however the reliance on mission door farming over huntable territories is still an un-fun mechanic for many.
