  1. An excellent idea. Although I have no skill what so ever with this sort of thing, I have now made up a character on V so I can watch.

Hopefully there will be some good videos from this event as it sounds as though it could be really good.

Very brave of you trusting to an online translator, by the way. I lurk in the French forums and the one time I’ve got up the nerve to post in there I resorted to English.

    Object Stacking

    [ QUOTE ]
LeighB, it's the Rustic Flattop Desk with 9 (or 10) rotations, desk draws all need to point east (or south) after the rotations and you can then stack above them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

See, this is the kind of thing that confuses the average base build (or at least the really slow one, like me).

    I’m still waiting for October.
  3. So, I’ve started a group on Facebook for those that want to shoot kittens and not join Facebook. Anyone up for joining?
  4. Oh, who are the grumpy people that don’t like Facebook because it was fotm last year.

I’ll go hunt both groups down and become a fan. I’m not sure it really gives me anything extra, but what would be cool would be a Facebook app’ that links in to the game. Heck, an app’ I could put on my own web site that linked in to the game would be even better.

    Object Stacking

I’ll have a look for you when I’m logged in to the game, but if I remember it’s left click to place and right click to rotate (while holding the left mouse button, maybe).

I’ve got to say, I read all the guides to stacking, tried it all out, did the seven rotations when the moon was in the seventh quarter and wore my rustic hat and still got no where with it. If you wait two or three months there will hopefully be some base lovin’ in the next issue. You should also keep in mind that there is always a certain quota of Doom the dev’s have to get in to the issue and in the next one it could be that all the stacks fall down.
  6. Very good. I really liked the characters.

This is the type of material I could envisage being used as part of the co-op comic that was mooted.
  7. I’d like to put the word ‘of’ in to room 101.

This would stop people posting on forums and using ‘of’ when they should be using ‘have’. As in ‘should have’ not ‘should of’ or ‘would have’ not ‘would of’. I actually find this more annoying than the incorrect use of the words borrow and lend. I have never borrowed you anything, you stupid child, I have lent you something, you have borrowed it from me. I’m not asking for perfect grammar as I’d have no chance either, but a little care goes a long way. Now sort it out otherwise there will be trials followed by hangings.

Right. I’m off to shoot some 12 year old American ****** bags in TF. Then Mr Angry will need a hug.

  8. Thanks for the comments and feedback. Very much appreciated.

For those who are interested, and as a shameless plug, I have now posted some science fiction short stories on my web site. I am also adding notes, and in some cases copies of previous drafts, so those who are interested can read my thoughts behind the stories and see how the initial ideas developed.

As I’m just in the process of re-coding my web site and direct links may change, it is best to go via the main page (www.leighbarlow.com) and just click on the ‘writing’ link.

I’ve also got another couple more ideas for CoH stories, but I’ll post about these separately as and when they are done.
  9. I had no idea all those comics you’d done existed. I’ve just spent a bit of time reading through the web site (which is excellent) and then reading the latest issue.

You’ve put the comic together really well and the lettering is excellent. Keep up the good work and let us know when the next one is out.
  10. I agree with Catz, I do like the proportions. Well done again.

Sorry to hear you’re having to stop the game for a bit, but do keep up the art work on DA.

    Path Finder

Very good. Well done again, sir.
  12. Another excellent video.

Now I wonder which key press makes my character roll around a corner like that.
  13. Whatz up wit this game and all its free issues!!!! Im only half way through my 2nd toon and new issues keep coming out. I mean I dont even have to pay for them and I dont want them when I played wow they never did this and I had to pay for tbc if I wanted it that was so much better. With my 2nd toon Ive only got to play as far as issue five and the park and then they go and bring out this invention system that I dont no how to use and then a rikti war and that croatia with all those romans in it. I mean dont get me wrong I want to have the cool roman costume and shields which look cool when they come out but I don’t have time to keep playing all these issues. If the devs spent more time on getting us better content and not bringing out these free issues the game would be a lot better not that it wont be so much better than co when that coms out but that’s not my point.

I mean I love this game and ive like played it all the time and I just want to have the devs spending more time getting great content in then giving free issues. I know you all flame me for this but its just what I thing and id like some serious posts on it not just that im wrong which I might be but sorry if you all don’t agree with me.

[Now typing that really hurt. I kept putting in commas without even thinking about it and although wanted to I couldn’t bring myself to replace any “haves” with “ofs”. And now I've just had to stop myself re-reading it to check for spelling mistakes. Darn those habits. ]
  14. [ QUOTE ]
I'd say more CoH players refuse to acknowledge running around in tights

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't know what you mean, I've never run around in my own tights.

    Rolling Story

    Thanks.

I’m slightly conscious that, following on from the discussion in the co-op comic thread, my mention of a two week timescale and a set order might put people off as it creates pressure that shouldn’t be there.

The reason I suggested these was to keep things organised, but also to stop two writers seeing the last post and then both trying to up load the next bit. This obviously wouldn’t be good for the story and there is nothing more disheartening than almost completing a piece only to find someone else has already uploaded something that nullifies your bit.

As an alternative to a set order and timescale here’s another way to do it.

Once a part of the story has been uploaded to the story thread one of the writers (who is already contributing or is new), posts in the organising thread to say he/she would like to do the next bit. If they then find, a couple of weeks later, that RL has got in the way they can just shout up and someone else can fill the gap. If no one has stepped forward to write the next bit within a couple of weeks, then the author of the last piece or the organiser does another bit.

This also means that with no set order a writer isn’t backed in to a corner by being given something to follow that they don’t have any ideas for.
  18. Nomination: The Origin of Nucleopatra - Act 2 - Consequences

There was one particular piece of artwork I wanted to nominate (well okay, about three ), but having re-read this again it reminded me how good it was.

The story is great and it has left me looking forward to the next part, but above all I loved the differences in the characters speech styles, the description of the chase and to top it all the bit about how Rufus and Cleo fought together in the ‘60s is near perfect.
  19. I found this again while looking at the July posts for any potential nominations. It was just as enjoyable reading it the second time as it is a good introduction to the character. Her attitude is great and I like the interplay between her arrogance and the realisation that she isn’t as far up the food chain as she has been.

    Shadow Shard One

I can’t make Saturday as I’ll be out, but if you do this again let me know as I’ve be playing the Shadow Shards recently and rather enjoyed the change of scene.
  21. Right, he said in a determined tone, I’m bumping this and updating some of it.

Those who are interested have about two weeks to offer any input otherwise I’m doing what I want (well, obviously not really ).

    1. Unsticky (get rid of) the current sticky tread titled “What's On - Heroic Defiant (Updated 21 December)”.

    2. Have some new sticky threads to cover the things that players want to find out or the things they should be told. These threads and the text for them are noted below.

Descriptions of the other sticky threads mentioned above:

    Super Group Recruitment Hub

A Super Group (SG) can be great for helping you find people to team with, it can give you access to storage and teleporters, to various zones and can be somewhere to resurrect when you’ve been killed rather than going to the local hospital (very useful in zones that don’t have a hospital). A lot of Super Groups also have links (known as coalitions) with other groups so if there is no one in your group who is online there might be others in the coalition who are interested in teaming with you.

Have a look down the list below and pick one you like the look of, and then make contact.

For those groups who would like to place their details on here, please find below a template you can use. You don’t have to follow it perfectly, but some constancy will help people read the list. Many thanks to Captain_Solaris for the design of the template.

    Defiant Channels

    What are global channels?

They are channels you can use to speak with players across the whole game (Hero and Villain, but EU only) no matter which zone they are in and no matter which server they play on. Generally channels are set up for specific reasons on specific servers.

    Putting Channels in Different Tabs

If you find it confusing to have all the channel chat appear in one window you can create different channels in separate tabs and place them around your window. Just click on the little numbers (1-4), edit the tab and detach. See this picture as an example.

    Joining the Channels

Simply type in the chat box:

    /chanjoin <channel name goes here>

For example if you want to join the DefiantBadgers channel just type /chanjoin DefiantBadgers

Once you have joined a channel it will work for all your characters.

How do I Talk in a Channel?

The channel you are going to type in can be picked from the list that appears when you click on the current channel name in the chat entry section.

You can also send text directly to a channel by using the channel name. For example:

    /DefiantBadgers, Anyone badge hunting tonight?

What Are The Channels I Can Join?

All of the channels have miscellaneous chat and banter in them, but try to keep most of the conversation on topic.

DefiantBadgers: Ideal for those looking for help getting different badges or badge hunting teams.

Defiant Events: Look out for regular task forces or just shout up if you are looking for players doing a specific mission or Task Force.
  22. Yes, bloomin’ wonderful creations from all concerned. Gratz on the placings.

    Co-op Comic

Okay, silly of me to put two ideas in one post, so I’ve split them.

I’ve just been reading through the stuff Swissy started on the French forums. It’s very good (as ever ) and I recommend a look even if you don’t read French that well. The co-op comic would be slightly different, I guess and I don’t think style would be a problem (certainly not looking at the French stuff).

Some further thoughts: Could we have separate writers, artists and letterers? Could we even have letterers for the three languages? Making it cross community might be a good way to access more artists and spread out the workload.

I’ll leave further comment for BuringFist (over the weekend) as it was his idea, I just wanted to bring it to the attention of everyone as I thought it was good.

Presume it’s not going to be too much work for anyone and therefore put your name down even if you would only have the time to chip in a story idea or do a couple of drawings once a month, say.

    Rolling Story

    Rolling Story

For something different and to encourage the writers here, I was also thinking about a rolling story. Back in the mists of time, when a Stegosaurus was still made with Stickle Bricks, I used to be involved in a few rolling stories on a BBS on FidoNet. I have never seen one on here, but if I’ve missed it in my years of lurking we could resurrect that or start a new one.

For those of you who are unsure what a rolling story is, it is quite simply a story where each writer does a few paragraphs (or more if they fancy) and then the next writer follows on. This might sound like something difficult, but it’s actually rather easy to keep the flow going (and coherent). There is an order for the writers and usually a time scale to complete each section. If writers are on holiday, ill or caught in a Max Mosley S&M scandal (allegedly), it just moves to the next writer.

To keep it organised there should be two threads: one for admin, holiday notices and feedback; one for the actual story.

If you haven’t written anything before or would like to hone your skills, this is a great way of doing it. It’s ideal for all levels of ability and new writers can join when they want by just being added to the bottom of the order.

I’m open to any other suggestions for organising it, and I’m also more than willing to set it up and start it off. Now it just needs a show of hands – three would really be the minimum to start it off.
