[ QUOTE ]
Wednesdays are fine for me, so put me down as the second Mastermind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Done. And since the two first tiers are almost filled, I've opened up the third tier. -
Okay, I opened up the IC thread, "[IC] The Crew." Feel free to start posting there.
I reckon that the way we do it is to consider the newspaper missions as coming from "Mister S." They're usually "close enough" to a proper heists "for government work." -
"Everybody cut the chit-chat and listen up for a moment." The man on the podium looked nothing more than a used-car salesman with his cheap brown suit, over-large wrist-watch and bad comb-over, but still the group of hardened criminals sat up and paid him attention -- if only for the time being, judging by the doubtful look on some of the faces.
"You can call me Mister S. Some of you have worked with me before, others of you only know me by reputation, some of you might not much like me. That's fine. I'm not here because I'm looking for drinking buddies and you're not here looking for a father figure."
"All of you are here because you're looking for a way to get your hands on a lot of money and you know, or at least suspect, that I am your way to that money. Well, I can be. Here's the deal."
"I pick the targets. I give you the information you need to know. Blueprints. Guard schedules. Alarm codes. Response times. Escape routes. Where the hidden safe is. If someone sleeps with a gun under their pillow or not. You guys make use of that information."
"I get fourty percent of the score. That sounds like a lot, but I cover all the expenses from my share, so don't give me any lip. Also trust me, I will know how much the score is so I will know it if you try to stiff me. You're all smart enough not to do that. You split the remaining sixty equally among yourselves."
"You're all here because you're good at what you do. Maybe you're not the absolutely best, but you're in the league and unlike most you all know when to keep your mouth shut. You're also here because you're smart enough to know Recluse didn't spring you from jail because he gets wobbly-kneed when you walk past him and have realised your chances of a long and happy retirement doesn't exactly improve if you cozy up to him and his cronies."
"Now, the police force here might be a joke, but don't let that fool you into thinking this will all be a cakewalk. Trust me, you're going to have to work for your bread, but also trust me that I'll be providing you with only the finest, whitest, most decadent French-made bread, and in heaps you haven't even dreamed of before."
"Now, shall we get started?" -
[ QUOTE ]
Ive got two great concepts for a mastermind or brute, but they require the issue 7 sets (which shouldnt be more than a week away), so sign me up for either of these.
[/ QUOTE ]
Both Brute slots have already been taken, so I put your name down for the first mastermind.
As for time, we could perhaps run this twice a week instead of weekly and with weekly level caps? For instance Monday and Wednsday, with level-caps being set for the Monday missions? (Giving people the weekend to catch up if they've missed one of the sessions.)
It will probably lead to more absences, but that'll hopefully just mean that we'll run with one team slightly more often.
Comments? -
[ QUOTE ]
I'll grab that second Corruptor slot, if that's alright. I'll have a character ready shortly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Done. -
[ QUOTE ]
Know what? sign me up under the reserves anyway, and I'll ask OOC before we start.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll start an IC thread for people to introduce their characters once a couple more players have signed up. If you wait to read that you can probably make an informed decision about whether the teams will work for you or not. -
[ QUOTE ]
Question.
What is the level limit for next Thursday's adventure?
[/ QUOTE ]
I suppose that depends on how far the two teams level on Thursday. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'd love to join as a Mastermind, however, Mondays I can't do as I'm out between 6.30-10.00pm, and Tuesdays, I do believe I'm at the same tabletop game as Aisla. Wed-Sun are fine though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, as I said earlier, I'll bring up a change of time-slot tomorrow, with the people who sign up today with the current time in mind. If none of them minds Wednsday we might switch, so just wait until tomorrow. -
[ QUOTE ]
Before I sign up...
will this team be open to ... 'gritty' characters?
ones that find pleasure in doing or like to comment on 'gritty' things done (to them) in the past?
If the answer is "yes" then I'll just save myself and don't sign up
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't want to restrict character concepts beyond saying that the characters has to be able to function in a team, so I'm afraid the answer is "yes," character akin to Mr. Blonde from Reservoir Dogs would be allowed. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'd take a corruptor slot, if there's one left...
[/ QUOTE ]
There is indeed. Happy Memento Mori day, by the way. -
[ QUOTE ]
I have a level 3 or 4 Stalker I never use, if I wait can I use him then?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't see why not. If you just show up a little late the first night, there should be no problem at all. -
[ QUOTE ]
Id love to do this, but cant do Monday evenings im afraid *weeps quietly*...
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll let people sign up out the day. If none of the ones who've signed up by then has a problem with Tuesdays, we'll change.
Does that sound all right to everybody? -
[ QUOTE ]
I'll sign up for a Brute slot!
[/ QUOTE ]
Done. -
[ QUOTE ]
I would love to try out a stalker.
I hope a concept of someone who isn't truly evil will not be too much of a problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're down for a stalker. And no, don't worry about being evil, as long as you're criminal. Or your char is, at least. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'll sign up if I may?
[/ QUOTE ]
You may indeed. -
[ QUOTE ]
Hmmm, my Level 15 Doctor Forrester-Esqe Masterminds needs the dust blown off him...
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, Red. I forgot to mention that we'll all start with new characters for this. -
After participating in Battleflag's IC Team-up in City of Heroes on Thursday and having a blast, I decided to try and set up a similar thing for City of Villains, mostly to get more roleplay fun in for myself (hey, it's CoV. We're supposed to look out for number 1!) but also to give an opportunity to those who were interested in Battleflag's team-up but couldn't make it on Thursdays.
So, same set-up. Weekly two-hour meet-ups City of Villains, with one or two teams depending on how many of the players can make it. Monday from 19:30 to 21:30 BST is the tentative choice for a time, but that can be changed if it doesn't work for people. Likewise, the concept is tentatively a "heist-style" team of (super) criminals (think "Ocean's Eleven" or "Heat",) but can also be changed if someone has a better idea.
To ensure a spread of archetypes, we'll do as in Battleflag's thread and choose ATs from available slots, on a first-to-post, first served basis. We'll start with two slots for each archetype, and I'll edit this thread to keep the list of selected slots up-to-date. (Although check the end of the thread as well, as there may be a delay.)
Edited to add: We'll all start with brand-new characters. Do people want to run the tutorial as a team, or should we just take that as read?
Oh, and I also forgot to mention, this will be on Union.
Since the two first tiers have been almost filled up, I'm opening a third tier of archetypes to select from.

2. Brute: Wonka
3. Brute:
1. Stalker: Lotus_X
2. Stalker: RedCommisar

1. Dominator: Leif Roar, Greenbuck
2. Dominator:
3. Dominator:

"No, mom. ... Yes, mom. No, really. I'm okay. Fine. Yes, I know they've got guns, mom. No, mom. Mom, relax, okay? I'm in Paragon, not Baghdad, you know? Mom, I don't want to work for uncle Frank. Yes, mom. I know he makes good money... No, mom. Yes, that's final. ... Yes, mom. Look, have you got dad there? Mom, I'm fine, okay? Yes. Uh-huh. Love you too. No mom, I haven't met any girls yet. I haven't even gotten unpacked, okay? Yees, there were girls on the team. ... Uh-huh. Yeah? ... Mom, do you want your grandkids to have two parents that are superheroes? No, didn't think so. Give me dad, okay? Yes, mom! I'm fine.
Hey dad. The upstairs bedroom is coming along? Yeah? I don't know when I'll have a chance to fly back down yet. Can't you ask uncle Frank to help you?
Yeah, today went fine. No, no paperwork. ... I don't know, maybe they want to see how the team gels first? Yeah, the team looks promising. Heheh. Yeah, I know dad, but it looks okay. We don't know each other yet, really, but everybody seems to be on the ball, you know? Well, maybe not one guy, but I think he's okay too. Yeah, time will tell, right? ... Oh christ. Tell her to give it a rest, okay? No, you know what? Tell her they're both lesbians. ... How should I know? They're superheroes, they're all kind of weird. Yes, dad. I know that goes for me too, okay?
Yeah, okay. I need to finish unpacking too. Yeah, dad. I know. You too. And get uncle Frank to help you with that cabinet, okay? ... Yes, dad, but I'm not fourty-three. Get uncle Frank to help you! ... Yeah, I know. Give my love to sis, okay? Thanks." -
"Negotiators? Sure, I can be a negotiator. I'm all about diplomacy and subtlety, right?"

John Henry is dead. You are Manolith.

*cough* Mind the all-caps, please?
[ QUOTE ]
I THINK THE HOLLOWS WILL BE OUR FIRST PORTOF CALL NEXT WEEK(AS AN OPTION ANYWAY), AM I RIGHT? IF SO, SHOULD WE CHOOSE THAT OR ELSEWHERE?
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I vote for avoiding the Hollows and instead going the King's Row -> Steel Canyon path. Partly because I don't like the Hollows, and partly because I feel the King's/Steel mission paths are more appopriate for the kind of RP we're doing.

IT MIGHT BE WORTH HAVING MILITIA IN OUR SEARCH BOXES FOR OTHER CHARACTERS, IF APPROPRIATE, JUST TO SPOT EACHOTHER.
[/ QUOTE ]
People's search boxes tend to be pretty full as it is, with various "No blind invites"/"Happy to SK"/"Dark/Dark controller" messages. Just use the global friends list; that's what it's there for. -
Chat channels are nice for brainstorming, but they're not very good for advertising. Chat channels are, by nature, dynamic while advertisements are static. People don't join a channel to read ads, and they quickly learn to filter them out; whether they come in a motd or in regular "spamming" of an ad-line.
The best place to advertise is here, on the forums. Maybe someone should start an "active roleplays" thread and get Bridger to sticky it. Something like the various guide threads on the US forum, where the original post is edited to keep the "front-page" up to date. -
The place is run-down, you say? Well, of course it's run down. It's in the Gish, isn't it? No, I said it was on the edge of High Park. Anyway, it isn't run-down, it's ... authentic. That isn't dust and sooth on the walls: it's history.
This place is ancient, you know? It used to be a speak-easy during the Prohibition. Huh? The prohibition of alchohol, dolt. You know, the thirties? Al Capone, bootleggers, the Valentine Day massacre? Yes, I know that was in Chicago, but the Prohibition was nation wide, you know. God, you gotta stop sleeping in history class.
Yes! Of course they sell drinks here. The prohibition ended long before the war! No, not the Rikti war; World War II, you know? Us against the Japanese and the Germans?
Oh, stop whining. So it's a little dark and the stools are worn. I'm sure you'll live, and besides it was you who wanted to go hero spotting. Well, that's what I've been trying to tell you. This place has been a hero hangout since before the Citizen Crime Fighting Act. You still get some of the real old timers dropping in here.
I told you why! This used to be the number one hot spot in Paragon just after the war. No, not the Rikti... Jerk. Well, look at the walls! See the photos? That one there is the first Manticore and Frank Sinatra. That's Hemmingway. No, he wasn't a hero, I know that, moron. The small one there is of Miss Liberty and some old movie star.
No, it's not just old heroes who come here. I've seen a few young ones here too. Well, maybe they like that it's "run-down"? Maybe they know how to appreciaty the ambience, huh? ... It means, like, the atmosphere. No, I don't mean the smell of stale beer, I mean ... Jerk.
[Welcome to the Red Sprite Special, a run-down old boozer hidden away in a back street on the border between the Gish and High Park. It's not certain if it's the oldest pub in Paragon, but it is the oldest place with a continuous "masks allowed" policy.
There used to be a large movie theatre nearby, and after high profile premieres the movie stars and celebrities would come here to mingle with the masked avengers and caped crusaders. That's a long time ago, though. The movie theatre was torn down during the fifties and the bar has ambled on more or less lamely since then, propped up by locals and old regulars and the odd tourist or hero-spotter dropping by for the sake of its history.
Still, it refuses to die, and if you're not too nosy and not too brash, it is still one of the best places in the city to meet some of the heroes of old.
So, that's the setting. Now for the down-and-dirty OOC details. Free Form roleplaying thread, set in a run-down old bar. Yes, it's the Paragon City equivalent of a fantasy tavern, and is meant as an alternative to the high-school centered threads.
No rules besides "play nice" and the no main plot -- meaning it's up to the players (that means you) to make up their own plots.
Avoid game jargon, please, and take any fightings outside of the bar proper. There's a wonderfully badly lit back alley that's perfect for those kind of matters.
Feel free to play characters you've got in-game or new characters you invent just for here. There's no need to stick to just the powers that are available in the game, so if you want to play a hero who can mentally control cats, go ahead. Feel free to introduce NPCs and decorate the place.
Okay. Intros at thirty paces. You know what to do, and if you don't, improvise.] -
In the noble pursuit of as little work as possible, just add a comment that the character is deceased to their page. They are superheroes, after all. Who knows when they return from the dead or someone new picks up their mask to carry on the good fight?
