Can't wait to read your reactions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, you just have to learn patience then, because you're not getting them right away no matter how much you plead and beg. -
I'm more atypical than archetypical, really. Still, I'm the 'slow burn' kind of personality, so guess I'll have to go with tanker.

Its obviously an anagram for:-
A Liberated Pyre Urns
Cabana Itches Depth Either
Adulterates Shoe Envy
Which means, um, I don't know, something deep though, really deep
[/ QUOTE ]
Ia! Ia! Cthulhu ftagn! -
What this set really needs, though, is a "Scottish Reaver" power set for Brutes that negates it.

tiresomely long 'nerf threads'
[/ QUOTE ]
Tiresomely long? Heh. You should've been here in '05, youngster, then you'd know what a cold winter ... I mean long nerf thread really is. -
[ QUOTE ]
exactly! 45 monthes is nearly four years... only a respec?!
[/ QUOTE ]
No, 45 months nets you: Trenchcoat, Greek Alphabet, Belly shirt and kilt, Ghost slaying axe or Sands of Mu, the pre-order sprints, wall mounted weapon displays, angelic and demon wings, samurai armour, shoulder cape, base teleporter, CoH comic covers, anime tech armour, signature group emblems, signature hero/villain items for your base, Nemesis staff or blackwand, Arachnos Flyer or Longbow chaser, a pet, boxing set, assemble the team power, nine costume changes and four respecs. -

a Battletech, Shadowrun, Warhammer 40K, Paranoia, G1 Transformers, Rifts, and Ghost in the Shell MMO

This is going to be the best game ever! -

or perhaps because your reffering to a 20 tear old film ??
[/ QUOTE ]
20 years is old? Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damned. -
[ QUOTE ]
The video is still going through some final polish and approvals, unfortunately.
[/ QUOTE ]
*Checks the date* So, would it be reasonable to assume that the video contains some kind of I13 tidbit, the announcement of which has been delayed? -
[ QUOTE ]
Does not change the fact they suck as a veteran reward.
[/ QUOTE ]
Meh. They're not very shiny, perhaps, but they're useful. Greek letters fit a lot of themed heroes. -
[ QUOTE ]
All one of them?
[/ QUOTE ]
There's at least one and three-quarters of them around. ... If we count the French and German servers too. -
[ QUOTE ]
they give us greek letters, i much rather see some greek clothes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ex-Delta Force AR blasters, psionic and radiation themed heroes everywhere laugh at puny Greek clothes and heartily endorses Greek alphabet. -
"You nerfed me on a Monday,
I respeced on a Tuesday,
You patched a bug on a Wednsday,
I respeced on a Thursday,
You rolled back on a Friday
I swore a lot that weekend.
Oh, I got the E.D. blues.
Yeah, I got those
nerfaristic, forumistic,
deep down wistful, Statesmanistic,
oh those dark and gloomy
E.D. Bluuues." -
Eh. I find the veteran rewards fine as is. Remember, the reward for playing for 45 months is not just a badge and a respec -- it's a badge and a respec in addition to all the previous veteran awards. Each reward is really for playing for three more months, not for all the months you've played so far.
(And I've used costume pieces from both boxing and samurai for my characters.) -

Well toggle dropping the travel power is no big deal because most pvpers got hurdle slotted making it hard to keep them in place even when all travel powers drop.
[/ QUOTE ]
So we classify hurdle (and sprint and others) as travel powers for this purpose.
Never mind -- I was thinking of combat jumping. We'd need to suppress all the "secondary travel powers" too, somehow -- and toggle dropping won't do it, you're right. -
[ QUOTE ]
Give all melee AT's (except stalkers) a power similar to glue arrow that can be negated only by a kinetic and i am happy imho will make melee very viable in pvp zones.
[/ QUOTE ]
How about giving Scrappers and Brutes a short-range aura that toggle-drops their current target's travel power? That still leave Tankers, but I think something else has to be done to make tankers viable anyway. -
To make PvP appeal to a large portion of the playerbase, I think, as a minimum, the following needs to be done:
Team structured -- PvP needs to be restructured to be centered, and not only balanced, around teams. There needs to be team tasks, victory conditions for teams, and mechanisms in place to pit teams against teams.
Nuanced stealth -- The stealth system needs to be expanded and made more nuanced. Terrain, conditions, movement, power use and other should affect stealth (both adding and subtracting.) Staying hidden should require some amount of skill (and be, to some degree, counterable by skilled opponents), but the payout should be better.
Suppress travelpowers -- Travel powers should either be suppressed entirely in PvP zones (although that would require a complete redesign of the zones) or they should carry significant disadvantages to use. Penalties to stealth, accuracy, resistances and recharge, lingering for a few seconds after they've been used. It should be almost, but not quite, impossible to use them effectively in actual combat -- mostly they should be used as a way to get to the combat, then be turned off. -

Nice Leif, real nice.
[/ QUOTE ]
*shrugs* I'm not the one who brought the Army into a discussion about PvP in computer games. -
[ QUOTE ]
If "you" are that hardcore and like PvP, try out Shadowbane, Lineage2 or some FPS games or join the Army.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Army is hardcore? Hah. When was the last time the Army went to war with someone who could give them a challenge? The Army is just base-camping, spawn-killing, ganking noob-hunters. -

[ QUOTE ]
before even looking at that orum because of the posts I read in here.
[/ QUOTE ]
You spelled forum wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, actually he spelled it "orum". -
[ QUOTE ]
How could anyone claim that more people are put off by secondhand posts than trying it out and coming into contact with other pvpers?
[/ QUOTE ]
For that matter, what fraction of the playerbase even read the forums (beyond incidental glances)? 10%? 30%? I sincerely doubt it's even close to half. -
[ QUOTE ]
Wrong. PvP isn't unpopular.
[/ QUOTE ]
Riiiiiight. Sure it isn't. The PvP zones are just teeming with life and laughter. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, but that doesn't mean we have to endure the tiring negative comments though...
[/ QUOTE ]
Why not? We have to endure the equally tiresome "If you can't stand the heat" comments.
Come on. This is a thread in General Discussion named "Has PvP in CoH seriously faceplanted." If you want to avoid negative views of PvP (which it is perfectly okay to want to avoid), you probably shouldn't read it. -
[ QUOTE ]
You do realise that, for some people, no change to PvP is ever going to make it enjoyable?
[/ QUOTE ]
For me, it's a matter of "no realistic change to PvP will make it enjoyable for me." The changes that would be necessary before CoH's PvP would appeal to me (and, I do suspect, much of the playerbase) are so large and far-reaching that I don't see NCSoft investing the necessary time, work and money.
So, beyond pointing out what I consider to be wrong with the existing PvP for the sake of discussion, I'm not really interested in putting time and effort into coming up with solutions to those issues -- what would be the point? -
[ QUOTE ]
What people need to remember is that there are as many, if not more anti pvp comments made than i pwnz joo coz im a l33t pvp'er ones.
That dont help the state of the pvp game or encourage new people either.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think you're putting the cart before the horse, honestly. You get these comments because PvP is unpopular. PvP isn't unpopular because of these comments.
