Quote:We don't have a server emulator, so this is moot for now.I was wondering if anyone would be up for maintaining a couple of servers for a CoX Emulator? Old SWG has one.
Once we DO have a server emulator, I intend to host one where I live; my country is known to react to DMCA/IP legal threats in the following way: "lol, good luck enforcing that".
People in the US would have to deal with the 400ms latency I've been dealing with for the last 6 years, though. -
It's worth it, though. I don't know how much it is where you live, but I bought one for $50 USD last year (during a brief time where I was working on an XNA project) and I've used it to play a bunch of games on Steam since then. Much more comfortable and sturdy that a generic gamepad.

Relevant XKCD.
I use different passwords for every single site I open an account with (I wrote a password generator which always returns the same result for the same website domain, so in the event I forget the password, I just need to write the site and my secret number into my generator and I get it back) and I've never, ever had my any account stolen anywhere.
If you use the same username and password in something that costs you money and in a public website that someone you don't know put together, you're just asking for trouble. -
Quote:Most likely not. I was never interested in MMOs, and it's only because COH does so many things differently that I kept playing it; but I would never have given it a try had Kristen not bugged me. So, you're sort of responsible for me being here then. Now everybody knows who to blame.I wondered if you would have been playing at all were it not for my then-boyfriend and I getting Kristen interested in it?
Quote:Did she ever keep playing? Unfortunately I really lost touch with her after graduating from UCR, but it was cool to hang out with her during lunchtimes.
Quote:If he then got Kristen into it and then enabled you to play indirectly, I will gladly take some credit, haha!
Quote:Especially since you've done really cool things for the community as a whole (I was super-excited about the thing you made that took advantage of the rag-doll limb position coding, for example!).
Other things, like the AE offline editor, I started while working on a very boring office job (one of the few times the people who hired me really forced me to keep to a schedule even though most of my time was wasted that way) and so I did most of the work during idle time in that place. When I dropped that job (which I did as soon as I could) I didn't even bring the source code back home with me.
I would have been much more useful to the community if I hadn't the attention span of a squirrel on crack. -
Quote:FYI, Maressa just posted about the calendar, since my own thread about it got buried. PM me with any events that need to be added, since Maressa won't be able to add anything (though I'd be happy to give her write access if she sends me a PM with her GMail address)....Right, so, back on track. What else is going on? Well, we have a nifty little calender that one of our Project Coordinators, Maressa, who is basically the angelic patron of collating, has to remind us of cool events like the Unity Rally TonyV is hosting on Virtue this Saturday starting at 2PM Pacific, 5PM Eastern, 9PM Standard Time.

Hey there Liquid,
When I started reading your post, I went "Fatare... why does that ring so many bells?" and when you said she was Marisa from California, then it clicked.
Marisa went to UCR with the owner of my account, Kristen. I've mentioned many times what a pain in the neck it is for me to purchase things from NCsoft (it sees my IP is from Argentina and instantly rejects everything), so even my account is not at my name; it's thanks to Kristen that I have a COH account at all. I met Marisa and her then-boyfriend in-game back in May 2005, and a few times afterwards, but being in a different server we never stayed in touch.
Nothing special, I just found it funny that I met her when I first got into the game, and I get news about her now that the game's ending. Bookends and all that.
Best wishes to you two! -

Thank you everybody who sent your characters so far; I don't reply to emails individually because they're really a ton.
And yes, Bill Z, I got yours and it's safe in my Cohstumes folder. -
Quote:It SHOULD be as simple as clicking the Google Calendar button at the bottom right of the linked page. It will open your own Google Calendar and ask if you want to add it; after that, it'll show up under "Other Calendars".Leandro, I was unable to add your to my Google calendar list. Step-By-Step instruction would be appreciated.
Alternative: go to your Google Calendar, and click the arrow next to "Other Calendars". Select "Add Calendar by URL" and enter this address: https://www.google.com/calendar/ical...blic/basic.ics
If that doesn't work for you, PM me your Gmail address and I'll add you manually.
Addendum: those with Android phones can tell the Calendar widget to sync with this calendar as well.

Added the Liberty Rally. That's this Sunday, September 9th, 12:00 EST.

I missed the Vigil on Triumph because I just didn't know about it, so I'm trying to start a calendar that lists ALL upcoming in-game and out-of-game events related to #SaveCOH. Please PM whenever you learn of something, and I'll update the calendar ASAP.
Here's the calendar. The default timezone is Eastern, but I believe it automagically converts it to your timezone if you add it to your Google calendars. -
Quote:No preference. Rather, I want to show how wildly diverse characters can be.Do you have a preference between Heroes or Villains, and/or a preference between "Character is obviously, visibly a superhero" versus "Character is a character that works as a superhero because of the setting"?
So far, I got 54 emails; keep them coming! It's going to take a while to organize everything, so don't expect anything until the weekend (but send the heroes before then, last minute additions might not make it in). -
Thanks everybody who already sent the costumes, there's too many to thank individually, which is good. Keep 'em coming.
Quote:I asked for costumes before I also want to capture them in the UI.Just checking, would the demo capture of the character help you more? Or you just want the costume and info?
Nope. I don't even have the tools I used to create demofiles in the past, I'm recoding some quick scripts from scratch. -
-
I'm working on a little something here and I need a bunch of heroes to populate it. Please send me the .costume file and primary/secondary/travel power to my email, leandrotlz@gmail.com, or upload it somewhere and post a link. Most likely I won't show you fighting, but I am asking the powersets for completeness.

We'll meet again,
Don't know where,
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through,
Just like you always do
Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
If the worst case scenario happens and the official servers shut down, I expect to meet you all again in a community emulated server, whenever it's ready. -
You mean all the badges would be reset, and we all had to start over?
Mwahahahaha.... MWAHAHAHAHA.... with Turg now busy with his baby, I'll be #1 in the server! Bring it on! -
Quote:This has been debunked repeatedly. NCsoft has rights in perpetuity to use COH's engine.
*Perfect World owns the rights to CoH’s engine and kept the renewal cost too high for NCSoft
