May 26th 2005 here. Which brings an interesting point: I should have the Celebrant badge, which was awarded in May 26th 2005. But because of something "out of my control", I don't have it. Should I start complaining a lot about how unfair it is, or shrug, go "it's just a badge" and move on? I chose the latter. It's one badge out of almost 700. It won't kill me.
Quote:You dismiss life is hard stories because your life has never been "hard" -
Quote:Right. The badge that was awarded by maintaining your account active for three months. You didn't. No grounds for protest. Move along. This thread is about the loyalty badge, not someones ability to quit smoking.
When life throws you lemons... the main reason why I dismiss "my life is hard" stories is because I've had, and sometimes still have, quite a very difficult life. Bad stuff happens all the time, and life is hardly ever fair. You either fortify yourself and decide that you won't let it bring you down and you'll make things work no matter what, or you live stressed and miserable. -
Quote:My father stopped smoking six years ago. He just decided he was going to put all the willpower he had in not picking it up again. And he didn't. So I have first hand proof that it is as easy as counting backwards to 10 if you have the willpower.says the non-smoker (probally) Quitting isn't as easy as counting backwards from 10 you know.
Bullstuff. Quitting costs nothing. If you want to dump money in 'treatments' it's only because you don't believe in your own ability to quit. -
Quote:My only stable paycheck is for $500 a month. And during the time of this promotion, I had to deal with a $4000 debt on my house. So, yes, that's my advice. If I managed to squeeze in $45 for COH, so can anyone. He mentioned smokes on his post, that's the first thing I'd cut off. Cancer is bad for you.Wait a second here. Some guy just explained his money deal and your advice is to pay 3 months in advance!? Did you get tips from Dr. Phil for that logic?!
Quote:And the fact they didn't mention this "Loyalty" badge till almost 2 months in from the cutoff date to the General Populace of players. -
Quote:Quoted for emphasis. If you cared about the badge, the best course of action was to play for the 3 months up front, avoiding any interruptions. I did that with time cards, and I haven't even been able to play the game much of the last month due to video card issues. If you seriously want to receive a promotion reward, take measures to ensure you fit the promotion's rules, never leave things in Murphy's Law hands. As to the earlier poster(s)--it's not flaming, complaining, witching, or semantics. You asked a question. If your account wasn't active...then it wasn't active. You may have a personal opinion on "inactive" meaning the same thing as "active," but the rules and CS appear to disagree. Whether you actively quit the game, or passively did by not paying your subscription in any way shape or form for longer than 24 hours, you were inactive.
That said, I hope that the badge will award again in the future as part of other 3-month "loyalty" promotions. We already have too many one-off badges and I'm not happy with the gap getting larger and larger between old badge hunters and new. -
I SHOULD have my replacement video card back sometime today, so I MIGHT be able to drop in. Fingers crossed.

Chaotic Good, which I guess translates to Vigilante in Going Rogue. I'll go wherever and do whatever I can to make things better.

The main use people have found for those recipes is as an influence bank. Each character has a cap of 2 billion influence, but by bidding a billion influence on a 51-53 recipe that never drops, they can store that money away knowing that it will never actually buy anything, and go way way past the cap.

The COH betas include people on a "don't call us, we'll call you" basis. If you're chosen to be in a beta, through some selection criteria the devs aren't very specific about, they will contact you through your email when something becomes available. So make sure your email is up to date in the NCsoft master account.
Participation in previous betas does not guarantee being in newer ones. I was in all the closed betas until i14, then suddenly, no i15 or i16 beta invite. The Going Rogue beta will include 60+ month veteran players, and people who have kept their account active from september 15th to november 15th, however those invites won't be sent until sometime early next year. -
Her bio calls her a "child prodigy" but that she wants to be "a normal teenager". It hasn't changed since at least 20 March 2006, when the first update to her ParagonWiki page was made.

And Justice was a paid costume piece (with the GVE pack), so now you're complaining that you got a piece similar to a paid one for free?
-
And while they're making changing to the NCsoft store, make them remove the IP check that prevents me from buying any booster packs and instead tells me to check a "local retailer" (my "local retailer" doesn't even sell COH anymore, and getting time card codes from them was a royal pain; they don't even know what super boosters are).

And here I thought I'd screwed some of my settings and accidentally hidden them. I spent a while on the Options panel yesterday scratching my head.
My vote's to bring them back on a separate page, so you have to consciously click on it to see the rep comments. I don't mind them being anonymous and I don't mind the occasional insult. -
Quote:I see no conflict between what you're saying and what I'm saying. All I say is: I won't buy a product when the license agreement for some of its features prevents me from using the product to its fullest. I'm not demanding any changes; they can keep the license agreement as limiting as they want -- and I'll keep on staying away from them.OK, by subscribing to Xbox live, you accept the terms and conditions of that agreement. One of those says that if MS detect your Xbox has been modified in any way, MS can, at it's sole discretion, ban it from Xbox Live.
(Incidentally, that's also a reason why I tell everybody to build their own computer or let me do it for them; buying a pre-built computer usually comes with a warranty sticker in the case that if broken for any reason, invalidates the warranty. I won't support a business that forces me to lose benefits, even benefits I would never use, because I opened the case to install a video card, or even just to look at the inside components out of curiosity.) -
Quote:And I chose to do whatever I want: stick to PCs, where I can run for a week on Ubuntu if I feel like and then go back to Windows and my Windows games will still run online. Or I can even run those same games on Linux; Steam works very well under Wine. It's for Live and part of the agreement is clear; they can do whatever they want.
PCs got this far by being an open platform anybody can develop for. Huge things have started out of a single homebrew title distributed via shareware (Commander Keen -> iD software) or even freeware (Narbacular Drop -> Portal.)
What I run when I'm not playing an online game should have no effect on my online experience. As long as the game has a valid product key, it can be safely assumed it was not pirated; there's no reason to then block the user from playing their legally obtained game because they decided to try some homebrew stuff. -
Fraps uses its own video codec, I think. You need to use something like VirtualDub to convert it into something YouTube can understand.
* Download VirtualDub
* Load your video.
* Go to video/compression and pick a suitable codec; any mp4/xvid derivative would work.
* Go to audio/compression and pick something like aac.
* Save the new AVI. Upload it to YouTube.
If you need a codec pack, I usually install this one.
Another program you can use to do the conversion is AviDemux, I use that one to load videos on my phone. -
Agreed. I have no love for piracy, but Microsoft patches all the time to prevent Xbox owners from running homebrew games / alternate operating systems. If I buy a piece of hardware and I want to run Linux on it, I should darn well be able to.

Quote:The direct links to the Flash player app worked, thank you!The NCSoft store has a 'European version also available' link that may work for you. Barring that, let's see if sticking the links in here work... They're still to secure.ncsoft.com, so you might still get blocked.

Illusion/Rad controller. Even if everybody else in the TF quits, you'll probably be able to finish on your own.

Can someone link directly to the videos for the Ninja Run/Emotes or post them on YouTube? The NCsoft store IP-blocks me and won't even let me see the page. "Unfortunately, this item is not available for sale to your region from the NCsoft Store. We suggest you inquire with a local retailer to make your purchase."

The Boomtown Babbage is unaffected. I'm staring at him right now and he's as big as ever.

* Loved that the new event has a mini-zone just for itself. This is kind of like what the Cathedral of Pain should have been, multiple teams in the same "mission".
* The thick fog every time Lord Winter phased was very annoying. Pure grey stopped being a justifiable background choice with the NES.
* The Winter Guardians don't drop the standard 2 merits for a GM, instead Lord Winter gives 6 merits. This means that if a team is unable to defeat Lord Winter in the allowed time, they'll get no merit rewards out of the whole encounter, even if they'd defeated all 3 Winter Guardians and could have been awarded 2 merits for each. 2 merits for each Guardian and 2 for the Lord Winter sounds more fair.
* I crashed 3 times to the desktop with the crash dialog. That may have been my connection being a PITA, but considering the recent server issues on live I thought I'd bring it up in case something reintroduced instability. -
Quote:Power Liberator/Master Thief is also not currently obtainable.Anniversary badges and the corresponding 5th Column gladiator are the only currently unobtainable badges for those who don't already have them. Add in the number of Vet badges that you are short, assuming they maintain the 3-month pattern indefinitely, and that's the number that you will never (unless they make them somehow available) obtain.

Bleh. I could understand this is there were actual physical prizes, but for a yellow title?

Quote:It's not limited to Stalkers. In my head, I divide the ATs in two classes: the ones that can buff the team/debuff the enemies, and the rest.I know of all the characters I've made, my Stalker gets the least "invite". I have to literally ask people to take me and if his team already has a Stalker, that means "no thanks" to me.
Now, if I have to choose between grabbing a Tank with high survivability, or a Cold Domination character that will raise the survivability of the entire team, I'll always go with the one that'll help the team. Similary, given the choice between a Blaster or Stalker vs. a Kinetics defender/troller that'll raise the damage of everybody else, I'll always go with the Kinetics. Pretty much any buff or debuff will beat a "simple damage" AT in my teaming priorities.
