I don't recommend it for important albums and such, but for avatars, signatures, etc. it works pretty well. It keeps the images as long as they get at least 1 view every 3 months, and has no bandwidth cap.

  5. By looking at Carnifax's account I just remembered that the forums have the EU/NA accounts merged. I'm sending the gleemails from a NA account, I don't know if you'll get it if you're in the EU!

5 gleemails sent, 5 to go...
  6. I've been playing COH since May 27th 2005. That's a really, really long time.

Before ED. Before the aggro cap. Before newspaper missions. Before villains. Before PVP zones. Before Veteran Rewards. Before the buff icons could stack. Before Task Force Commander and Elusive Mind. Before the greenline reached Skyway or Founders' Falls. Before Croatoa, Ouroboros, Pocket D, Midnighter Club, Cimerora or any of the villain zones. Before Supergroup bases and salvage. Before Inventions and the Market. Before real numbers. When controllers could summon many copies of their pets. When a tank could herd an entire zone into a corner and a blaster could nuke them all at once. When Faultline's dam was intact, and Vanguard hadn't moved into the Rikti Crash Site. When Hamidon was killed by holding the nucleus by a truckload of controllers.

    Dang, I feel old.

    Things I remember fondly:

    * The first badge I earned was "Land Locked" in Galaxy City. A friendly high level blaster told me to "stand here" and that's when I first learned that badges were something you could earn by doing stuff. I had "Celebrant" before, but I didn't know what the deal was about it.

    * Completing the Terra Volta trial for the first time with my Illusion/Empathy controller, after failing it 14 times in a row with an empathy defender (which I deleted). That was the moment that Doctor Leo became my main character.

    * Blinkie Finder. Back in 2006, the Dr. Quaterfield TF was broken and the blinkies you had to click to complete the mission were invisible; you had to find them via sound and click on the floor where they would be. But those blinkies would show up when recording a demo of the level, so I wrote a program to parse the demo files and show where each item (including the blinkies) would be in the level. I still use that program when I've ran around a map 30 million times and I can't find the last objective (the in-game feature for this, introduced recently, doesn't work every time).

    * Splasher, though I stopped updating it when it didn't play nice with Windows Vista (and then lost the source code). Let's face it, the default loading screen of the game gets really boring very quickly.

    * Having my Supergroup base featured in the City Scoop. Though they didn't get to see the "real" look, because I'd customized the textures.

    * The Issue 10 closed beta, with all the European folks. The great beta experience contributed to making Issue 10 my favorite to this day.

    * Rickrolling Lord Recluse.

    * Winning the "City of Commercials" machinima contest and getting a nice box of COH stuff in the mail from it. I still have the letter signed by Lighthouse, Ex Libris, Niviene and Koschej.

    * Winning in the GameTrailers video contest, though they never gave me the prize (gave up after six months of reminding them via email).

    * Earning Bug Hunter. Twice.

    * Soloing the Imperious Task Force with my Radiation/Sonic defender.

    * Finally getting every single badge that could be earned through actual ingame "work". I joined 10 supergroups and got them all their Combat Logs badge (100 million healing) on the way of getting my Empath badge (which was 1 billion healing).

    * Completing the ideal build for my main character, which includes 5 Panacea sets and a purple set slotted in... Brawl.

    * Transferring to Justice to learn how to raid Hamidon properly, then going back to Freedom and leading them nearly every weekend since then.

Whoa, you read all that? Okay, here's your prize: first 10 people to reply to this post with a global handle get 100 million influence via gleemail.

It's been a good five years. Here's to May 27th 2015 finding this game in good shape.
  7. *Pats theOcho* There, there... if it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't have gotten that one in a bajillion years.
  8. There are several things you can disable to reduce the traffic and make the game playable over 56K. The most important is to enable "Hide Buff Numbers" in 3 places near the bottom of the settings. If that's not enough, removing channels such as Damage Received and To Hit Rolls from your chat tabs will reduce the traffic a little bit more. Hiding buffs completely from the settings will reclaim a little more bandwidth.
  9. And tonight I dreamed I was in a Hamidon raid and when I tried to Assemble the Team on my group, I teleported Hamidon instead. Into my garage. And then used the mitos and jello tennis balls to play with the other raiders. Then Statesman and Dark Beast (from the Age of Apocalypse) came out of the goo (they had been trapped there since Roman times, apparently, because they were wearing Cimeroran-like armor) and joined the game of ball that was pretty much like Calvinball: I have no idea what it was, other than played with mito balls.

    What the heck, brain.
  10. So I was sitting in my house minding my own business, when I read on the news that this giant spaceship had arrived on Earth. Sure enough, I look outside my window and there's this massive gray/green saucer floating in the distance, and it's sucking the atmosphere in. All attempts to communicate with it or destroy it fail miserably, and they don't leave until after they've thinned the atmosphere from oxygen so much that people are asphyxiating everywhere. The only way I survived into old age was by using electrolysis to make my own oxygen out of water, every day for the rest of my life.

    And then I woke up.

After the initial grogginess of thinking "hey, I can breathe without carrying around a cylinder of oxygen again!", I realized something. That was a Rikti mothership sucking out our oxygen!

So, after thinking "bloody Master of LGTF influenced my dream patterns" my brain started asking questions, such as how much would the atmosphere need to be thinned before we couldn't breathe it anymore, can a single mothership do that, would we still be able to lit fire and similar oxygen-consuming things after that, can the planet survive purely on wind/water turbine electricity if we can't burn anything, and about a gazillion other questions.

But the important thing is: the Rikti are stealing our oxygen! You interdimensional thieves! Oh, I'm so starting a raid in the Rikti War Zone now... I feel like kicking Rikti rear.

Yep, I get that too. Radeon HD 5770, Windows XP SP3, Catalyst 10.4.
  12. It's rare for a team leader in COH to discriminate against an AT or powerset. We have our share of elitist morons, but usually all you have to do is go into a global channel, say you're looking for a team, and someone will pick you up.

Best advice I can give you is to make a lot of characters based on what you think you'd like, and play them. When I first started the game, I skimmed over controllers because they seemed "meh", and they ended up being my favorite AT.

If you are going to be playing in Freedom, shoot me a tell (type /t @Leandro, Hi) and I can show you around. Free jetpack included.
  13. To some degree they follow the traditional MMO typeset, but pure "healers" are usually not looked at with good eyes. Buffs and Debuffs are a lot more powerful in COH, and damage mitigation kicks the <bleep!> of straight healing. There are plenty of "pure healer" characters floating around, but a defender or controller that can attack / lock down mobs while buffing the team is much more valuable.

Server recommendation if you want big population: Freedom or Virtue. Virtue is the unofficial RP server, Freedom is the "anything goes" server.
  14. Decide what inspirations are best for your character. In my case, my Blaster uses reds the most, to build damage up and destroy things quickly. My controller uses purples, to boost its defense while it goes into the thick of the fight where its squishy HP can only go that far. Both characters also use Break Frees, so I don't want to lose those.

Then, make files similar to those:

    archer1.txt
    i "insp_combine Insight Enrage$$insp_combine Catch_a_Breath Enrage$$insp_combine Luck Enrage$$insp_combine Respite Enrage$$insp_combine Sturdy Enrage$$bindloadfile c:\games\archer2.txt"

    archer2.txt
    i "insp_combine Keen_Insight Focused_Rage$$insp_combine Take_a_Breather Focused_Rage$$insp_combine Good_Luck Focused_Rage$$insp_combine Dramatic_Improvement Focused_Rage$$insp_combine Rugged Focused_Rage$$bindloadfile c:\games\archer3.txt"

    archer3.txt
    i "insp_combine Uncanny_Insight Phenomenal_Luck$$insp_combine Second_Wind Phenomenal_Luck$$insp_combine Righteous_Rage Phenomenal_Luck$$insp_combine Resurgence Phenomenal_Luck$$insp_combine Robust Phenomenal_Luck$$bindloadfile c:\games\archer1.txt"

Now while playing, hit "i" repeatedly. Your tray will quickly fill with your preferred kind of inspiration. Use it, abuse it. Enjoy huge damage or defense permanently.
  15. Was your character stuck before the patch already? I don't think the fix will un-stuck characters, only prevent new ones from getting stuck.
  16. During last night's Hamidon raid, Hamidon failed to appear. He was there, alright; I could target him and fight him, but completely invisible.

When I noticed this, I zoned to my base and came back, did a /reloadgfx, and logged off the game completely and logged back in; nothing fixed the problem. Hamidon was invisible for me the entire raid.

    Windows XP Pro SP3
    Radeon HD 5770 (10.4 drivers)
Graphics set to Ultra with world and character detail to 200%.

Remember when COV went live? Remember the several months afterwards spent bugfixing the messes it made? I expect GR to be at that level. Adding a ton of new systems to a 6-year old base can't be pretty.

I hope it doesn't take long to revise this. "Let's datamine for a month to see if its needed" would suck.

    I heard the same thing.

    Yeah. That's convenient.
  21. je_saist: 50% hold resistance on mitos. You can stack it 3 times, not 6-7.

Because all teams have enough DPS to kill hami while 6 mitos are healing it? Ours certainly didn't, and it was a very good team:

    - Shield Tank
    - Scrapper
    - Cold defender (I think /ice)
    - Illusion/Empathy troller (me)
    - Blaster
    - Blaster
    - Grav/Rad troller
    - Ice/Rad troller

3 controllers couldn't hold a mito, and our DPS combined wasn't enough to kill Hami through the healing. "Beat down on hami" is not a solution.

Thanks, I am currently too annoyed and forgot about the resistances. So, even a full team of trollers can't do this? Great.

I'm slowly getting less annoyed here, but I'd really appreciate it if Castle would post to say either that this was an oversight and the protection will be lowered, or HOW are regular teams supposed to do this.

10 can be done by a single troller via Overpower or Vanguard Medallion. 20 needs two trollers or Domination.
  25. Doing the numbers:

Regular controller single target hold is magnitude 3 for 15 seconds and recharges in 8 seconds.

With 3 SOs, that's 4 seconds. Which means you can stack it 3 times per controller (12 seconds, with a 3 second left over).

That's 9 mag hold (not taking into account Overpower, because it's not reliable).

50 points of hold protection / mag 9 holds = you need 6 controllers spamming their single target hold to hold a mito.

Dominators have it easier because of Domination, but still. Congratulations, the LGTF is now controller / dominator only.

What the heck, Castle? I'm truly confused at how having 50 mag protection on a 8-character task is a good idea.

(And if I sound bitter, it's because I just wasted two hours running this TF, twice, just to find that now "WAI" means "full controller team or you're screwed". I'm not happy right now.)
