The high pitched noise is very easy to remove: it's an almost completely pure 7000Hz tone. You can clearly see it on the spectral view:
One single notch filter [7000Hz; -40dB; very narrow] gets rid of that. I also removed some of the background noise [there is a great 5-second sample of just noise at 15 minutes 45 seconds], but the SNR is so low that trying to remove more of it garbles the voices too much for comfort.
Here's the download link for this. It's a free host, ignore the premium stuff and click the download link at the bottom right.
Here's the spectral view afterwards, for comparison:
The sound is still very quiet; applying a hard limiter to boost the input by 10dB brings the voices out a lot more, but the background noise comes back with a vengeance.
And just in case anyone wants it, here is the file with noise reduction cranked to the max. It sounds like you're listening to it through a telephone, but it might be useful for making a transcript. The spectral view for this:

This whole thing is silly. Videogames are entangled with a lot of other cultural things. We have comics based on videogames, we have movies based on videogames, we have music based on videogames. By association, the Batman 3 thread shouldn't be allowed to exist because there are Batman videogames. Lost has a videogame. EVERYTHING has a videogame.

Okay, so I just heard back from NCsoft support:
Quote:Since I'd already done that, I sent a reply saying:Hi Leandro,
Thank you for contacting NCsoft Technical Support.
Please try clearing your DNS cache. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the R key. This should bring up the "Run" dialogue box.
2. In that box, type "cmd" without the quotes, and click the "OK" button. A DOS window should open.
3. Enter the following command below and press enter: ipconfig /flushdns
This should clear your DNS cache. You may need to perform this command a few times.
If the issue persists your ISP may be providing old DNS information. Some ISPs take longer to update this information. You could also try using a 3rd party DNS service like those available at http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ or http://www.opendns.com/start/ . NCsoft does not support these services, but there is information on configuring them at those sites.
Please let us know if this suggestion does not solve your problem.
Quote:Hello,
>Please try clearing your DNS cache.
This was the first thing I did. It didn't help. I also reset my router, and I tried with different computers.

My personal gaming computer uses Google's 8.8.8.8 DNS; the family computer uses my ISP's standard DNS; and I connected to a neighbor's wifi using my laptop with a different ISP. None of those worked.
If this is a DNS problem, tell me the right IP for secure.ncsoft.com and I'll modify my hosts file to connect to it until the problem is solved. It's currently resolving to 64.25.35.201.
I'm pretty sure the problem is outside my ISP, as evidenced by the traceroute I attached earlier, and also because there is another player in the forums suffering from this problem, here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showpost.php?p=3086123
Thanks for the reply,
Leandro.
So, four minutes later:
Quote:Actually, I just used my head and traced the route to secure.ncsoft.com from a web server at http://centralops.net/co/
It identified secure.ncsoft.com as 64.25.35.101 -- so I used my web browser to go to https://64.25.35.101 and it worked.
I still can't access the site using its domain, but the IP works, so I'll make do.
I added the following lines to my hosts file and now everything's fine:
64.25.35.101 secure.plaync.com
64.25.35.101 secure.gtm.ncsoft.com -
Often, I run Hamidon raids with everybody on /hide, to avoid the zone filling up and people DCing and being unable to get back in. I've found that a lot of people forget to turn off hide afterwards, and they only realize it because they can't get invites to teams afterwards.
Anyway, /seach will only return players online in your "side" of the game (heroes if you're playing blueside, villains if you're playing redside) even if you're in a coop zone. When Going Rogue hits, Praetoria will have its own population filter as well. So there's really no way to tell how many people are on the server at any given time; only how many are playing in a specific side and not hidden. -
Quote:ipconfig /flushdns was the first thing I tried when it didn't work, followed by restarting the router, then trying from my neighbor's open wifi. Looks like I'm out of luck for a while.Have you tried flushing the DNS cache Leandro? It may be holding some bad data. It looks like something may be holding a bad route at the hop after it leaves the telefonica network.
Of course, if the latter is the case you'll have to wait until it's fixed at that hop. -

I'm in the same boat as OP. https://secure.ncsoft.com is redirecting to https://secure.gtm.ncsoft.com/ and returning an error. This is not an OS problem, or a ISP problem: the tracert suceeds until it leaves my ISP, then dies.

No, if I have a problem with a bad player, I make a note for that player and move on. Most of the time I don't even look at people's supergroup names; I don't know how well it applies to the global population, but I've found that a lot of players have their own supergroup or very small supergroups with close friends, in order to use them for storage. The old function of the supergroups (to find teams and chat with a large group of people) is being filled by global channels.

Quote:That's not what I got from Support at all. I received "The server causing your issues should now be available for use. Please let us know if you are still having problems connecting in the future." and indeed, the problem was fixed by then. The only thing I've heard is that support suggests to "keep trying" and "try rebooting the game or your computer".

According to my support ticket, it's all fixed now. Next time you have issues, FILE A SUPPORT TICKET. The people in charge for fixing the servers don't look at the forums on a saturday night. You need to file a support ticket if you want them to know something's wrong.

I can't login either. The one time I got through the login screen, all the servers appeared disabled.

Any chance of the rules changing to allow worldwide entries once this comes back? This whole bit makes me sad: "(d) you must be a resident of the United States (excluding the State of Rhode Island, and excluding Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. territories, military installations and commonwealths), Canada (excluding Quebec) (Canadian residents will be required to answer an additional mathematical question in order to claim their prizes), or the European Union."
If the prizes were physical things that needed shipping I would understand, but forum titles and costume codes? I've been quite disappointed that I'm not eligible to participate in any of the games. -
Civilized answer to the question while pointing that the devs are busy with GR. Quick exit in an attempt to not get tangled in the thread's general doominess.

When I'm bored, I follow them on an incognito window and give all fake information, such as username "no idiot will fall for this". A couple of times I've had the scammers email me back to say "you think you're clever, but we get thousand of accounts this way". While I won't take a scammer word's for it, I don't doubt that they get a lot of accounts; many people forget to bring their brains with them when they go online.

In Brickstown you have the very large area that starts in a parking lot, and then you have the other underground area all the way East in the zone.

I'm quite sure that the l33t trailer is there already (look at Neutra's videos), and I'll add the others as soon as I feel good enough to get out of bed. I've had a nasty viral flu of some sort for over a week now, and extended laptop usage in bed is not comfortable.

Phew! I just finished backdating all 78 videos so they show in the right order in the "recent videos" list. That was annoying, but it had to be done. Now I can start adding more without breaking the list.
-
Done. In this post there was a link to the video, but since I'm considering on redoing all the posts to properly backdate them, that link would get broken. It's going to be rather annoying to re-do 76 posts, but it's only going to get harder as I add more videos, so, going to be doing that.
-
Gibbain. I left them in there anyway in case he changes his mind and enables embedding later. Samuraiko, however, has two videos that use music from WMG and they disabled the videos entirely, so I can't even get their embed code.
-
Added so far:
Ashcraft (17)
Gibbain (12)
Leandro (5)
NCsoft's Official Video (15)
OminousVoice (3)
Samuraiko Productions (19)
Vertical Studio (4)
I'm going to take a nap and I'll add more tomorrow. -

Work in progress: http://cohtube.blogspot.com/
Just done loading all the official videos (except the 7-second dimension shift demo), I'll be adding Samuraiko's next and then looking at the threads for more videos, until every COH video is in one place.
Thoughts?
