I created a new character and sprinted around Atlas looking for an enemy who had just bought running shoes and was itching to try them. In fifteen minutes, when I was 3 bars into level 3, I had one: a Blood Brother Slammer in a group of four level 5 hellions, who took off as soon as I attacked someone else in the group.
This video is the result.
* Enemies are +2 to me.
* There's four of them.
* I attacked once and he took off.
* I was on the floor at the time, and kept getting knocked down.
* He fired no attacks before running away.
* The enemy I had attacked stayed to fight.
There are no cuts and no edits. When you see the fast-forward sign on the screen, it's because the video is running at double the speed to keep it from becoming too boring. The actual chase time was close to five minutes. The soundtrack was gec72's idea.
Note: even if it is scripted... why? I can see a good reason for one in the group to run away if they were facing a big group or a player several levels above him... but 4 vs. 1, and two levels above me? Does not sound like a very smart script. It would also make more sense if the runner was of a different gang (his Hellion buddies won't think very high of him now), or if he ran into a door to get help. The "Hellion Girlfriend" script in The Hollows is a lot better. -
Quote:It's not just Nosferatu. There is at least one repeatable instance where if you attack a group of four enemies, one of them will take off running even if it's several levels above you. I'll post a video of that in a few hours; look for a thread called "Run Leo Run".I've seen this Nosferatu behavior since i14. See my post here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...9&postcount=76

I do not use "color phrases" no matter the language, unless I am truly angry at something. Profanity cheapens the soul and weakens the mind.

Quote:You're reading too much into it. They are not denying it, but they're not confirming it either. The post from Castle describes how the mechanics are supposed to work -- and if they're not doing that, that makes those mechanics "false" in my head, thus my original wording. False due to who knows what line of code or piece of data is doing something it shouldn't, not because Castle intends for it to be false.I just feel your post implies they are denying the problem exists which they aren't.
To make it crystal clear: I am calling the quoted description false, but I am not shooting the messenger. -
Not at all. I quoted the part where he describes the mechanics, because that's what I am replying to. "I'm not saying there isn't a problem" is not saying "there is a problem" either, so I don't feel that statement adds anything to the quote. Now, if he'd said "I do know there is a problem that we have not been able to address", now that's different. I expect running mobs to be very low on the priority of things to fix, since they don't really "break" anything, they just make some fights immensely annoying..

I would strongly prefer if there was a checkbox in the tailor that just said "Show Legacy Pieces", unchecked by default. Those who want to use the old, low resolution costumes can check the box and enjoy the ugly low resolution textures, while new players would by default see the nice, high res ones.

Quote:If you've seen that in Praetoria, it MIGHT be WAI. Since there are no drones in Praetoria to protect players in exposed areas, the mobs have a "leashing" system: if they wander more than (I think) 200 yds from their spawn point, they will deaggro, turn invincible, and run back to their spawn point.Since GR I've had mobs that ran so far that:
They completely unaggroed
Their targeting reticles cancelled
If you saw it elsewhere, it might be possible that those mobs are leashing when they shouldn't. -
Try launching the game with "C:\Path to COH\cohupdater.exe" -screen 1920 1080

I have sent bug reports about this before. I get a cut-and-paste reply stating that everything is working as intended. Not just for critters running away; it's rather infuriating to report that the entire zone of Sharkhead is LCMS every 6 seconds for everybody in the zone, regardless of their geographical location or connection method, and receive a reply back saying "restart your computer and tell us your firewall settings". Customer Support is, most of the time, unwilling to believe that there might be a problem with the game.

Tonight, I decided to test my new Illusion/Empathy/Mace build by soloing some AVs. I used Viridian's mission, the one where The Center sends his six AVs to fight you one after another. I set the rules as no temp powers and no inspirations.
The first three fights were relatively easy, although Vandal got lucky and took out my Toxic Tarantula, slowing me down a fair bit.

Maestro: 1 2 3 4 5
Vandal: 1 2 3 4 5
Then Nosferatu spawned.
I was ready to die against him, because I remember he was very hard to fight in an Ouro arc. So imagine my surprise when he started running all over the map. He didn't even attack me! Nosferatu has some really nasty attacks, but he decided to practice for a marathon instead.

Quote:Players of COH know that the above quote does not reflect the reality of the game. Critters run away whenever they feel like. Maybe you could somehow break the morale of a level 10 minion by killing a boss next to him, but come on. Nosferatu? A level 50 archvillain? I didn't even attack his minions! I was too busy running all over the place to try to get his attention.Critters run away for one of two reasons: A power or script forces them to or their "grief" flag has been set to true.
The Grief flag gets set to true when the enemy's morale breaks. Morale can break because a team mate died too quickly, or because they cannot attack their enemy effectively. So, if a group of softcapped players AoE nuke half a spawn down, the rest are pretty likely to run away -- a bunch of their team just died AND their odds of being able to retaliate are at minimal levels.
He eventually found the entrance of the room and ran away towards the exit, until I lost his targeting reticle. I hate fighting in caves, so I didn't follow him, knowing he'd eventually be back. He did, and just stood there in the room looking at me (I swear: I moved location, and he turned around to face me). But he didn't attack me at all. So I dropped Phantom Army on him... and he immediately started running all over the place again!
After he disappeared out of the room and I lost target of him again, I started Fraps to record a video of it. While I was setting up, he came back and one of my pets attacked him, so I had to start the recording rather quickly in the middle of the fight.
Here is a link to the video. I added an introduction to it (basically what I said above) so it would have some context on YouTube; his crazy running starts at the 30 seconds mark.
Maybe I should have used the Crey Pistol. -
Wrong. The tips are still there, but hidden. When you go to Paragon City it only shows you hero/vigilante tips, when you go to the Rogue Isles it only shows you villain/rogue tips.

If you're in win7/winvista this probably is because you're not running in an administrator account. Try installing a new copy of Mids outside the Program Files folder, in a place where your account has permission to write.

Try JDownloader.org, if you have to download files from those hosts often. It takes all the frustration out of it. It even autorecognizes some captchas. I used to avoid free hosts like the plague, now I just dump them into the JDownloader queue and let it deal with them.

Looks like the video was reposted with the fixed audio, though I don't know if it's my version because it doesn't say anything in the description. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkW5KnoUmac

Quote:Is it the new version? This patch is (most likely) not getting updated again, but I'm not a fan of having mirrors. It means that if I need to fix something, I can't spread those changes to the other file locations. For reasons that I won't go into here, I despise those "free" file hosting sites.
As it so happens, I am provided with a modicum of hosting space as part of my internet package. A copy of Leo's file can be found here. With the amount of bandwidth that I'm permitted for downloads, I imagine that everyone who wants it should be able to get it, with bandwith to spare. So enjoy.
JDownloader.org makes free file hosting sites a lot more bearable. It's a download manager that will work with pretty much any service out there, and it will resume transfers from a lot of them, including the one I used.
I use them mainly because I like looking at the download statistics. When I upload several versions of the same file, looking at which gets downloaded the most gives me an idea of what people actually like.
In this case, as of time of writing, 43 people downloaded the original version, and 16 people downloaded the fixed version. Since you mirrored it, I don't know if the second number is low because people decided to stick with the first version as being "good enough", or because they're getting it from the mirror. -
Quote:Great tip; I set them on the 12-15 range and now there's enough room to display Dwarf Strike and Dwarf Smite. The other two Dwarf powers are still out of luck. I'll upload the updated version in a minute. If you go into the database editor and change the Inherent Index of the powers, like this
Swift: 10
Hurdle: 11
Health: 12
Stamina: 13
Edit: Updated Data.zip here. Also updated the link in the first post, and the screenshot. If your Inherent Fitness powers don't appear in the bottom right corner, download the file again from the new link. -
The Day Job description still says 30 days, when it's actually 21. The Empowerment buffs still say they last for 15 minutes, when they last for an hour. I wouldn't hold my breath on this particular text being fixed anytime soon.

Quote:I'm personally not very concerned about that; I recover 3.26 endurance per second, so even with the endurance drain of Superior Invisibility, Combat Jumping, Maneuvers, Assault and Tactics, I'm still recovering 1.46 endurance per second. And since I'm an empath, Recovery Aura is there to bring me up to 5.28 endurance per second when I'm in danger of running out (Recovery Aura lasts 90 seconds and recharges in 122.6 seconds in my build; I'm not going to run out of endurance in 32.6 seconds).Amusingly, if you take all 3 leadership toggles and only use the default slot, plus put a LotG in Manouvers, you are talking about a very big increase in endurance drain which might even cancel out a lot of the effect of stamina :P
For others, though, endurance consumption is why I'm pushing for just Maneuvers and Assault. Those who have endurance to spare can contribute Tactics. -
Quote:I made a quick patch to add Inherent Fitness to the current version of Mids. Get it here.Once fitness becomes inherent I'm going to pick up ice blast maybe. I'll know more when mids comes out with an update.

This patch will add Swift, Hurdle, Health and Stamina as Inherent powers. It will load existing saves correctly, but you'll want to keep the saves you do with this patch separate until an official version is released.
Peacebringers and Warshades have so many inherent powers, due to Nova and Dwarf forms, that Mids can't display them all and will drop Dwarf Flare and Dwarf Antagonize from display. There's nothing I can do about this; Mids has to add more space for Inherent powers. All other ATs (including VEATs) seem to work fine.
Download Data.zip from here (it's a free host, ignore all the premium stuff and click the download link at the bottom right) and extract it to Program Files\Titan Network\Mids Hero Designer. You have to put the contents of this ZIP file into the Data folder; if you get a lot of "Overwrite?" prompts, you did it right; if you see a bunch of files appear in the main Mids folder, you did it wrong. -
I'm back from taking a one-month break from the forums, I'll be adding more videos to cohtube tonight or tomorrow. If someone wants to help me hunt down COH videos, send me a PM.

I'm trying to start a campaign for everybody in my channel to pick up the Leadership pool; Maneuvers / Assault at least.
Maneuvers: 3.5% (Defender, VEAT); 2.625% (troller, dom, corr, MM, EAT); 2.275% (everyone else). If everybody on the team has it, that's 18.2% to 28% defense, without enhancements; 28% to 44% if enhanced.
Assault: 18.75% (defender); 15% (VEAT, troller, corr); 13.5% (EAT); 11.5% (dom, MM); 10.5% (everyone else). If everyone on the team has it, that's 84% more damage in the worst case scenario, up to 150% damage on a team of all defenders.
An extra 25% defense and 100% damage on an average team would be quite nice. With only half the team using Tactics, that's about 40% ToHit as well.
