And this just popped on Freedom:
[Admin] Attention! In 30 minutes, City of Heroes and City of Villains will go down for daily server maintenance. The “downtime†window is two hours long but maintenance may or may not take that entire time. We will have the game back up as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!
If this is what I think it is, that was a great fix time. Grats devs! -
Phantom Army doesn't cause the problem, but Phantasm does. Phantasm casts a Decoy Phantasm. Fulcrum Shift is a pseudopet, and those don't seem to be triggering the problem.
-
Quote:My crashes would be due to Phantasm, then. It summons a Decoy Phantasm. You win.I would therefore conclude, initially, that the cause of the mapserver issue is summoned entities by a summoned entity that is level shifted - both Assault Bots (in Missile Patches) and Protector Bots (Seeker Drones) cause a summoned entity with the L32 Upgrade, whereas the Battle Drones do not.
-
I noticed this after installing the Catalyst 1.11 drivers tonight, didn't have this issue before.
-
Quote:If you are not affected at all, then it's hard for you to isolate anything that could cause the problem. If you are affected, you can do some tests to see under what circumstances you do and do not experience the problem. So the idea of isolating an issue is not a problem? I know all to well bugs happen and I am not affected by this, I do have enough technical skills on how to troubleshoot an issue, and one this is try and see the entire perspective.
For example, this Mastermind ran some tests and discovered that the bug only affected him when he summoned henchmen pets. That narrows the problem down, and is helpful.
Simply saying "I and most people I know aren't affected" doesn't narrow it down any. -
I am currently on a LRSF which was doing fine with one level shifted character, a Radiation/Sonic Defender. So I equipped my level shift alpha -- we crashed less than five minutes later. I'm a Controller, so pets are very possibly part of the problem.
The crash happened at 02-02-2011 04:36:59 GMT-3, on the character Doctor Leo on Freedom. -
Quote:And again, congratulations on not being affected by it!Most people I know on Triumph were not affected by this bug. I was not, and the people on the STF and LRSF I was on did not see it. There were a lot of teams going when I was on and no gripe came up.
You see, problems like these won't always affect every player out there. Just because you, your teammates, or even your entire server did not experience a problem, it doesn't mean there isn't one. There are tons of variables that could produce crashes for some people and not others, and the best way to find the problem is by gathering information from those who are being affected by it. So posting to say "I didn't have this problem" is not very helpful. -
The game does not add much to the system; try clicking the "Verify all files" in the updater in order to ensure that your files aren't glitched. But it's unlikely the problem will be solved with a reinstall of the game; you should look into what other software is in your system. Check this thread: [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums. and post in the Technical Issues and Bugs forum.

Pets do get level shifted. Allies in missions... I don't think they should be.

Quote:I would believe that if it weren't for several people crashing constantly and repeatedly until they remove their level shift, at which point they can continue just fine. No, it's not happening to everybody -- but that doesn't mean there is not a problem. The problem could be in the way that the Level Shift interacts with some other power, invention, pets, temporary power, or something else completely unrelated in a character.I really don't think that the alpha boosts are causing the crashes. I think everyone is getting alpha boosts since it's the first day, and crashes are happening a lot for un-related reasons, and it's unfortunate that some people are losing their rewards.
If I slot my Level Shift and run a Task Force, I crash every 5 minutes (by the clock). If I unslot it, I don't crash even once. Sure, there might be other unrelated crashes due to server stability, but it's too repeatable to be just a coincidence.
Also: it's easy to think there's not a problem when it's not happening to you.
In any case, it's in the devs' hands now. We reported, they took Notice that something is not Well, now we just have to wait for a fix. -
Are you in a TF? If so, does anybody have a Level Shift? Try getting everybody to go vanilla 50. See here.
-
Wait for the petition response, and add your voice to this thread; trying to keep all the crash / item loss reports in the same thread.
Doing the TF again should reward the Notice again; as least one person reported doing that. -
Another thing to check: when booting up the computer, hit F8 and select Safe Mode with Network Support. Should open Windows with nearly no third-party stuff enabled. Try to browse to the site that way. If it works, you know it's a software conflict somewhere.
-
Posted about it here. Let's put all the crash reports in a single thread, okay?
-
Just happened again on a Lord Recluse SF. Crash happened at 02-01-2011 21:44:08 GMT-3 and the mission was reset.
Quote:Agreed, but who knows how exactly is it interacting with the rest of our character's build. I'm posting the exact times of crash so devs can take a look at the server logs and figure out what happened. So if something related to the Alpha rares IS causing problems, it's certainly not a universal issue. -
Here. Next week, Imperious will be the WTF.
-
See here. So far, two people have reported that the crashing goes away after unslotting the level shift.
-
No, that is not how it should work. With one level shift is fine, but what about characters that are boosted to level 53? 55? 60? They shouldn't get rewards for fighting grays, or that'll just lead to major grey farming.
-
I had constant mapservers while running the STF with a level shift slotted. As soon as I unslotted my level shift, I did not have any more mapservers. Link.
-
I ran the STF and got the Notice of the Well with no problems whatsoever in 58 minutes. Then I formed a new team for an STF, with people who had missed the first run.
We crashed during the first mission when the AV spawned (02-01-2011 16:57:41) with the mission being reset. We finished it, then moved onto the second mission, which crashed on us twice (02-01-2011 17:12:17 and 02-01-2011 17:16:53) both times resetting completely, at which point the team gave up.
I reformed with 2 different characters and started again, at which point we mapserved, with the whole mission being reset, while we were fighting cables (02-01-2011 17:27:13). All times are GMT-3.
Is anyone else seeing this? In the first crashed run we had 2 people with level shifts; in the second crashed run, only I had a level shift. I'm unslotting my level shift now to see if that helps matters any.
Edit: after removing the level shift, we completed the Task Force with no crashes. Coincidence maybe, but still.
Removing the level shift also worked for PowerStream and Master Zaprobo
Edit 2: the issue is currently being investigated; let's hope for a hotfix soonish!
Quote:Hi everyone, we are aware that some users are experiencing issues losing connection to the mapserver and/or losing their rewards after completing the Strike Target when a team member has a Rare Alpha boost, or when crafting the Rare on the mission map. We are currently investigating the issue, and we will keep you updated. For the time being, it is recommended that you unslot any Rares, and do not attempt to craft or slot a Rare while running the Strike Target. -
Just finished our run, and I picked the Merits reward, which gave me 37 merits, plus:
You gain 34,625 influence.
Power of Illusion gains 344 prestige.
With Recluse's defeat, the power of the Web begins to burn itself out. The threat is passed, and the day has been saved!
You received 37 bonus reward merits.
You received Notice of the Well. -
Quote:You know I'd gladly take you, but you're on the wrong server :P(Actually now that I think on it... I've only done the STF ONCE, and never done the LRSF... crap, no one's gonna wanna take a n00b like me along.)
I am currently running it with a few people who've never done it before, and doing fine. -
Many, but the ones I can remember are:
* A Fire/Fire Tank shortly after ED and the burn nerf.
* An Ice/Kinetics Corruptor which I used only for ocassional PvP, after the PvP SG disbanded.
* An Illusion/Radiation Controller which started in Koschej's supergroup as a "clone" of my main in Freedom, then moved to Freedom during the free transfer period, then I deleted in i17 as part of the story arc where my main hero faces a doppleganger from another dimension; it just made sense that this doppleganger was the alt from the other server, so I deleted him.
* A Fire/Thermal Corruptor, my villain badge wh*re, after GR so I could focus on my hero main for badging.
* A Radiation/Sonic Defender last week, because I hadn't played it in about a year.
And soon:
* An Archery/Mind Blaster, when I get another freespec to finish unslotting him. I used all his available respecs last week and got 5 billion inf back from enhancements.
There are two characters that are "untouchable" for me; my main badge wh*re, and my Fire/Kinetics Controller who has Bug Hunter. Everybody else faces deletion if I don't play it long enough. I don't like having "inactive" characters. -
Eh, I wouldn't mind having those badges buyable for something like 30 alignment merits and a billion influence. The game needs more influence sinks, and we now have the vet badges to tell how long someone has been playing.
