I remember defeating Lusca with one team of lowbies (20-30) way back in 2005; I know it was that year because because I was on my fire tank, which I deleted when Burn got nerfed. The trick was that I had a contact that sold inspirations and was pretty close to Lusca's spawn point (it was the south one close to Brickstown) so I would fly there, stock everybody up with Lucks, and then fly back and defeat 1-2 tentacles. When we ran out of inspirations, flew back and bought Lucks for everybody again. It took a while.

    Lusca

If he's talking about my name, I always use my real name online for everything, so my frst character (on a trial account) was a blaster called Leandro. When the trial expired and I got this account, I couldn't use Leandro because it was taken by my trial account (grrr...) so I went with Doctor Leo because I was an Empath. By the time there was a reactivation weekend and I could go and delete Leandro the baster, Doctor Leo was already 50 and I wasn't about to reroll.

I'll go attack her and see which is correct. Should be up, as usual.

Edit: CONFIRMED. We killed Lusca while two tentacles were still up. Proof.

The effects were redone in Issue 10, and I still have a DVD with Issue 8 in them; I can play back a demo with the old sonic effects and record that, if I can figure out what the name of their FX was in the demo files. Give me a minute.

Edit: so far, the old version refuses to run at all, crashing while "Applying texture swaps".

Edit 2: Issue 10 runs, so something in issue 9 or 10 made the game compatible with newer systems. I'll see if Issue 8 will run on Ubuntu with Wine.

Edit 3: Not in Ubuntu 10.10 it doesn't... going to install 11.04 and see if it helps any, but that'll take a while to download.

No, it was $500... now I remember, I got second place in this one, and the one Michelle is talking about was organized in the boards here.

The guy who won the Toyota also had issues; in his words: "they reserved X amount for the price of the car. Problem is...X amount didn't actually cover the cost of any car, definately not the model/build that they advertised. So I had to negotiate the price down with the dealer and come up with the money to cover the rest." So that whole contest was a mess when it came to giving out the prizes.

Right-click the launcher and Run As Administrator, then. It's probably the User Account Control feature introduced in Vista that is mucking things up. I have it disabled because it's more trouble than it's worth.

Um, I don't remember. It wasn't the GameTrailers/Toyota one since they never gave me my prize (they danced around the issue for several months until I gave up emailing them).

    Statesman statue

I'm watching the marathon USTREAM chat recording, and late in the first part, Ghost Falcon started talking about the Statesman statue. Since I have one that I won in a video contest, this really interested me, and I wanted to share with those who don't have the patience to watch a 6 hour video stream. Happily, mine has kept its arms intact since I got it in June 2008.

"There's actually an interesting story about the Statesman statue. It was actually developed by NC Europe for the City of Heroes launch in February. Even on the base, I think there's a numbering? It's like 1 of 1400 or something. We did not make 1400 statues, or 1200 statues; only 440 were actually produced and, of that, only 80 made it to North America. 400 were held at NC Europe for distribution through their channels and also to, like, PR people? And the 80 that we had here were distributed to the staff of Cryptic, the staff at NCsoft, and a small number was held here. The company that actually produced it is no longer in business; so, if you ever get your hands on this, this is really really rare."

"If you ever win one of these in the contest just hold on to it, because I don't think we even have the molds for these anymore. Oh, and someone was asking about the Lord Recluse statue. Yeah, that was another initiative done by our NC Europe PR team, and literally as that mold was made the company that produced it went out of business. And so only a limited run was ever produced after, because we got access to the master mold, but I don't know who actually has the master mold, so if you see one of those, again, those are very very very rare. But I think the Statesman statue is rarer. And I think we've probably only given away maybe 10 of these, so, either through Hero-Con or online stuff, so whatever we have in stock, that's it. We're not going to get a resupply."

    Yes, it actually has arms.

Most of the time, the client crashed before I could zone in. The rest of the time, the basic blast that usually takes 4 seconds to recharge was taking 20 seconds. I gave up after about half an hour.
  11. Still no store access for south america: "Unfortunately, this item is not available for sale to your region from the NCsoft Store. We suggest you inquire with a local retailer to make your purchase."

Note: there are no local retailers. Edusoft has the distribution rights but hasn't done anything with them since GvE.

I can't wait for this to hit the Freedom Server. Union was medium load and the lag was "noticeable."
Virtue's turn is in an hour and a half, it'll be interesting to see how they handle it.
  13. No, only Part 1 is giving the rewards.
  14. If you want to check the Praetorian Surge list in your timezone, check the COH Steam group's event page. If you have Steam and you join the group, a notification should pop up a few minutes before each of them starts.
  15. Geronimo, if you visit the COH Steam Group event's page, the times should show in your own timezone.
  16. I was playing a Fire/Fire blaster in Union earlier, but I was disillusioned by the lack of tea and crumpets before the game of cricket. I'd brought my monocle and everything!

You're missing the point of my post. A few people were thinking that the badges were mutually exclusive and the only reason that they both appear as verified for a single character is because the player verified one badge and then the other (at which point, presumably, they wouldn't have the first). In reality, they have both badges, and the site's verification is working in a way that is consistent with what the game does.
  18. I know someone on Freedom who also has these badges, obtained the same way (zoned into a Praetorian tutorial), so I can confirm that the Agent of Praetoria badge is not mutually exclusive with Agent of Order:

    Tablet Support?

The one thing I would like COH to do, which would work as a tablet app but also as a regular desktop app, is a chat application with access to the game's global channels. I often log onto the game a lot just to chat with people in the global channels without really playing. I played STO for a month, and while the game bored me quickly, the fact that I could access their chat server using any Jabber client allowed me stay in touch with other players a lot more, and log onto the actual game only when something was actually gong on.
  20. You don't have to mess with the registry. Are you using the NCsoft Launcher? If so, click the arrow pointing down in "CITY OF HEROES" and select Properties; then add this to "Extra Command Line Parameters":

    -screen 1920 1080

That assumes you are using 1920x1080 as your display resolution, put whatever resolution you want in there instead.

If you are using the old style launcher, you have to edit your shortcut and add the parameters at the end.
  21. I use a bind for that, it works great: /bind ctrl+i info

As soon as you're out of the warehouses, summon pets and buff up (in that order, so the pets get the buffs) and charge him. He'll lose about 10%-20% HP per minute, depending on the amount of buffs, how many Seers are there, and what tier of Seers (since Lore gives a level shift, a T3+ Seer is best because then you benefit from the level shift). Marauder dies in under 5 minutes. Just remember to keep the ambushes in check, because if people die, they can't recast the Seers and you lose the psi damage.

If only a few people have Seers, I would have them save them until he's in Unstoppable and summon them then.

Also: note that the pets recharge in 15 minutes, but from the moment you come out of the Warehouse, you have 20 minutes to defeat him. If things go south and he doesn't die before the Seers expire, you can try to hold him until they're available again for another try.

Seer pets. If everybody on the League slots a Seer pet, even the first one which only costs 3 commons to make, Marauder goes down fast. Giving up 3 commons or 60 threads so your team can succeed is part of teamwork. Your S/L character takes care of the ambushes while you focus your Seer pet in Marauder.
  24. Chazz, instead of posting the exception, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\NCSoft\Launcher and look for a file called "NCApplicationLogXXX" where XXX is a number. Find the largest number, and post the contents of that one. It'll say what the launcher was trying to do when it failed.
