There's always a "caught up in events" theme to play with. A progression that neither the player nor the contact anticipates; no matter how bad you are, some days you're just glad to come out intact, with no one's Master Plan furthered.
[/ QUOTE ]
That can be fun to play with if you want a not-so-serious arc as well. "MacGuffin Delivery Service" is an arc where I took that concept and played it for humor. -
My arcs all grew by 2-3%. This was really annoying as it pushed one from 99.8% to 102.8%. I looked in the text file and could find nothing added, no nbsp; spam or anything. Had to rip out two ambushes, a couple battles, and two clues to be able to publish the arc on live.
And this was the exact same backup file I had made from the published arc on Test.

Another arc that was publishable so it was unaltered.

[ QUOTE ]
I agree the enemy descriptions could use a little more detail, but I'm currently at 99.9% of my save space on that arc, so aside from small tweaks there's not much I can do.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sounds like you're in the same boat I'm in with "The Portal Bandits". Though in my case I intended for the Nagans to remain mysterious and only the Earth-based characters get long descriptions since they would have known histories.
[ QUOTE ]
I like it as is, but you're not the first one to complain about having to do a little backtracking, so I guess I can adjust it a little.
[/ QUOTE ]
It just makes it so nonsensical that you go to the end of the map, clearing along the way most likely, only to have to go back 2-3 floors to find hostages who were not there last time he passed through and then when you release them they run away like pansies. Then you have to go all the way back to the end to fight the Queen Stryjax, who was not there last time either.
That's the biggest flaw I found. If that mission played more linearly there would be no more complaint. -

God help us if the Devs open up the Mayhem maps.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was rather disappointed that we didn't get them. I was hoping to include one as part of my villain arc, but at least we get the Pawn Shop and Jewelry Store maps to work with. -
Was it the elevator door with the trash can next to it? That one she got caught on twice.
Yeah, balancing custom critters can be a pain. The ones I have in "The Portal Bandits" took me nearly a week to iron the kinks out of before I had them to a point where they were challenging without feeling like they were designed to be a ganksquad. Some of the more obnoxious issues didn't even become apparent until I got a team of 5 to run the arc with me. -
Ok, now that the Boss ambush issue was fixed, I was able to finish "Dark Dreams".
Nice custom foes, I like the dark fey theme. Good choice of maps.
Bugs:
* The contact says that Thunderhead is already inside. The hero inside is named Shockriot.
* Shockriot's electric field kills his captors, resulting in me getting a clue out of nowhere and an ambush at the door. If the ambush was intended, I'd remove the clue since it makes it look like an obvious bug.
* Emerald Star is useless past the first floor since she keeps getting stuck in the elevator on that floor. I can reproduce this bug over and over, she gets stuck trying to fly into the doors of the far back elevator but never moves. Maybe try removing her flight power?
* The contact says for the second mission that some heroes already went in but the only one I found was Emerald Star. Is Malaise supposed to count?
* The Dark Oak ambush is beatable now, but still annoying. The issue here was they spawned on a set of stairs, and with all the roots making me unable to jump and all those Carrion Creepers I had to kill every creeper in my way as I slowly ran into meelee range, making it a long fight.
Nitpicks:
* The first mission feels like it should be an escort. I know people hate them, but with the ambushes being trigger when he's freed, how is he supposed to make it back down 5 floors to escape?
* Seth is somewhat useless of an Ally against these foes. I know Illusion is thematically appropriate for him, but these foes are all resistant to Psi damage and fear, so he makes rather little impact during the fight with the Shadow Beast. -
[ QUOTE ]
In one of the ambushes it's supposed to be Lt. (hard/hard) mob and instead I entered in an older version Boss (hard/extreme). Doh!
[/ QUOTE ]
I had hoped that it was something like that, the arc had been going very nicely and then WHAM!
Also, I ran into a bug that is probably out of your control since I've seen it occur once in the burning office map, where Emerald Star got stuck in the elevator if you used one of the lifts at the back of the room. -
[ QUOTE ]
The last mission could use a bit more fluff I think. The NPC allies could use a bit more in the descriptions is all.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well considering that they are just personifications of aspects of your personality, there isn't really anything more I can put in the descriptions.
Your groups are nice and creepy too, however I rage-quit during your "Dark Dreams" arc when that ambush of 4 extreme Plant/Dark Miasma bosses occurred. Totally unwinnable and not fun at all, had so many tar patches on me that my resistance numbers dropped below -60% and all the heals from the Bosses, Twilight Servants, and eventually Spirit Trees made them unkillable. That event totally killed the arc for me and I'll never play it again if that is still in there. -

Arc Name: The Summoning
Arc ID: 18411
Faction: Heroic
Creator Global\Forum Name: On Test & Live\@theexiled:Forum\ @the_exiled
Difficulty Level: 1-54
Synopsis: Investigate disturbances going on in the magical community. Solo-able at CL 3; suggest a team of two at CL 4 & 5
Estimated Time to Complete: 1.5 hours
[/ QUOTE ]
I soloed this one on my level 50 DM/FA Brute at difficulty 2 in about 30 minutes.
There is a good foundation here, but it needs a lot of work and polish.
<ul type="square">[*]If this is a Heroic arc, then why is the contact a Mu Archmage? Some explanation would be good here.[*]Too many defeat all missions. Was there really any reason that I had to defeat all of the CoT in that warehouse? When I was needing to check those three safes in the office with the Council (why were they in an office again?) is there any reason I need to defeat all of them as well?[*]Some custom enemies seemed a bit unneeded, especially as they didn't fit the theme of the groups you inserted them into. Mage Cammas doesn't look like a CoT mage and I don't see why a regular one couldn't have stood in, especially as you never see Cammas again. That Enforcer guy in the Council mission didn't look at all like Council and didn't add anything to the story either.[*]Speaking of the Council, what were they doing in this arc anyways? The Council isn't a magical group and they are acting pretty out of character in this story.[*]Your custom faction, the Legion of Shadow, comes out of nowhere in the 3rd and final mission. There should be some build up to these guys appearing. Maybe the entire arc should be them vs the CoT since the Council don't really fit in.[*]Some CoT vs Legion battles in the 3rd mission would add a lot of flavor. It seems like the CoT simply gave up after the first mission and went off to do something unrelated.[*]That "canyon" room at the end of the 3rd mission was not an ideal spot for having those two EBs spawn sequentially. Problem mostly was that in my run, Bloodhorn spawned in one of the out of the way rooms and I had to go searching for him since he spawned out of sight.[*]Some more explanation for Captain Entropy being there at all in mission 3 would be good. Not only does he seem out of place, being obviously a science-themed hero, but he should probably also be an optional objective since not everyone will need help with the EBs. In my case, he turned them both into total pushovers with his debuffs.[/list]
Address those issues and I think you'll have a nice mini-arc.
Now, up for review!
Arc Name: The Amulet of J'gara
Arc ID: 16977
Faction: Tuatha de Dannon, Circle of Thorns, Void Demons
Creator Global Name: @Lazarus
Difficulty Level: Medium
Synopsis: A pair of Midnighters have disappeared while on a mission to Croatoa. What begins as a rescue leads to an assault on the Midnight Club itself and a battle for your own mind and soul. (AV present, Allies are provided.)
Mission Count: 4
Estimated Time to Play: 25-45 minutes
I'm currently testing some improved allies in the 4th mission. I'd most like to know if they make the AV too easy or don't help enough. Also, be sure to list your level, archetype, and primary/secondary so I can put such feedback into perspective. -
Remember guys, the rule in this thread is that you put your arc up for review after reviewing the arc before you.
-
[ QUOTE ]
1) In the first mission, you have a lot of objectives. You might want to consider paring them down to, say, "3 clues to find" instead of having "rescue scientist", "search crate" "examine computer" flooding the bar.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've removed the crate and left the computer with the objective "Find Clues". The individual clues for mission one have been rolled into a single end of mission clue. I altered the NPC flavor text to include some of what the clues would have told you at the moments they were being given.
Now the first mission only requires you to find that clue and defeat the AV. Idea is that defeating her causes the Nagans to retreat.
[ QUOTE ]
2) It seems strange to have a high-tech samurai being a Portal Corp contact. Especially when he's asking you to do hero work instead of doing it himself. I guess he's an actual character of yours making a cameo?
[/ QUOTE ]
If the Devs add the "Ask About This Contact" button to MA contacts, you'd see that he does have a backstory. Right now you have to wait until you meet him in mission 4 and read his info.
On that note, every AV in the arc is a cameo character.
I've also added more text in his briefings to explain why he is not doing things himself. For example, in the 3rd mission he tells you to go after Vikki while he goes to question Anna, little does he know she's over at Vikki's already.
[ QUOTE ]
3) Lots of custom mobs and optional objectives for da badgin'. I will keep an eye out for it on live.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually unintentional. I didn't even know about those badges when I made the arc. I just like adding lots of details and I designed the arc around the custom faction, which was modeled after Naga Obscura.
[ QUOTE ]
4) In the second mission I saw Paragon Protectors fighting the other Crey mobs. You might want to take a look at the settings on the battles.
[/ QUOTE ]
I saw that for the first time today. I've gone and created a custom Crey group with only the 35+ critters in it, so that issue is gone.
[ QUOTE ]
5) You build up a collection of redundant clues to the effect of "The Nagans are stealing portal tech" over the course of the arc. They could be consolidated a bit without losing the effect of the story.
[/ QUOTE ]
Clues have been consolidated now.
[ QUOTE ]
6) The helpers are a nice addition, but they could stand to be toned down a level (especially now that Elite Bosses don't downgrade to lieutenants anymore). They were pretty much steamrolling the missions for me. Of course, they're optional, so I guess people can ditch them if they want, but then you have to go back and get them if you want help with the AV.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not going to happen. Some have to be AV to make sure they have necessary Status Resistances, otherwise issues occurred where some allies ended up getting KB'ed to death. Also cuts an issue where they were dying too easily with large team spawns.
And they're optional anyway. If you don't want to use them, it's not hard to skip past or ditch them if you did pick them up.
[ QUOTE ]
Bonus 7) On reflection, does Viki what's-her-face in the third mission really have to be an AV? I'll be honest here, I don't think a standard supervillain you fight in the middle of the arc should outclass the player that badly.
[/ QUOTE ]
You have a AV at the beginning of the arc and you're surprised to find one in the middle? This is more to address issues with her being too easy for teams. If she's too hard to solo as a EB, that's what Anna is there for and I have yet to see her not help.
====================
Anyway, it helps a LOT if people include in their reviews what Archetype and powers they were, what difficulty they played the arc on, and if they were solo or with a team (of what size?) Otherwise it's hard to adjust difficulty issues if you have no idea what people are taking up against your characters. -
I just ran "Adventures of the Space Marines". Soloed it on my level 50 DM/FA Brute at Malicious (level 2) difficulty.
For the most part it was pretty easy. The bugs in mission 3 and 4 were a bigger threat to me than the Shock Troopers due to my low toxic resists and non-existent slow resists. The chatter could stand to be turned down or varied more and some patrols replaced with battles so it doesn't look like the Space Marines are wandering around doing nothing much of the time.
The Monster in the first mission is tough to hurt. He couldn't hurt me a whole lot but until I got a dozen Space Marines aggroed onto him I was hardly overcoming his regen. Maybe he could be turned down to Boss because such a tough foe in the first mission might scare people away early on.
If I would suggest anything, it's to move the Egg in mission 4 to spawn in the middle of the base. Otherwise it's annoying to clear to the end, find it and trigger the rescues, go back to find the rescues in previously cleared rooms, and then go back to the end to fight the now spawned queen. Otherwise maybe have the rescues in there from the beginning and have the egg in the last room spawn the Queen when destroyed. I was surprised that the Warriors I freed ran away instead of helping me as well.
As for the final boss: she was not too difficult to beat as I had a strong heal and Elusive Mind on hand plus inspirations, but what made it painful was all the Kins spawning as ambushes. At one point I was trying to chase her down with 5 applications of Siphon Speed stacked on me and if not for Force of Nature I would have had no attacks available from all the -Recharge on me. Definitely tone that down, maybe add a non-Kinetics foe to that ambush group to dilute the Kins and make them less rare.
Now for my arc.
Arc Name: The Portal Bandits

Mostly I'd like to know how people like the custom group. -
Two new arcs. Well 1 new one and the completed version of another.

Arc Name: Portal Corp Raid
Arc ID: 12010
Faction: Nagan Hegemony
Creator Global Name: @Lazarus
Difficulty Level: Medium
Synopsis: Portal Corp has been invaded by an unknown force who has sealed off the building. A hero is needed to rescue trapped scientists as well as discover the identity of their captors and their intent.
Mission Count: 1
Estimated Time to Play: 15 minutes
This is the intro mission to an arc that I am currently planning the rest of. Right now it simply stands to introduce a custom enemy faction based on one of my characters, who appears as an elite boss at the end. There is also an ally to assist you if you so wish.
Right now I'm mainly looking for feedback on the Nagan Hegemony group itself whether it's on their theme, difficulty, annoyance factor and such. Also would like to know if the ally makes things too easy. Be sure to state if you soloed the mission or took a team through it, would be nice to know what ATs and powersets you used too. I'm trying to get a good idea of how to balance them for both teams and soloers.
Thanks in advance and have fun! The feedback thread is here. -
How dare this thread die. Anyway, I found some new ones.
Vikki is most definitely The Ladette, although Anna has some of the characteristics too.
And then there is the Monster Mash:
Anna (Demon)
Cobalt (Cyborg)
Kathode (Catgirl)
Naga (Lizardgirl)
Vikki (Troll)
Brimstone (Mephit) -
All of my villains are "ambiguously" evil to some degree. One isn't even evil so much as simply a naturally destructive fire/dark elemental outside of her natural environment.
Really I look at my villains as a case of "let's be realistic about humans getting superpowers." While there are exceptions, we are by nature a selfish species. Give those selfish people immense powers over their fellow humans and you know more than not they'll turn out to be villains, even if they're not going around kicking puppies all the time. -
Amazon Brigade: Anna Nethema, Cobalt Stinger, Kathode, Naga Obscura, Vikki Vandale.
Black Magician Girl: Cobalt Stinger, Brimstone Mephit
Healing Factor: Vikki Vandale (continuous type), Anna Nethema (burst type)
Life Energy: Anna Nethema can steal it to heal herself and buff her damage
Shinigami: Zetsumei Mitsukai
Extranormal Institute: Montressor's Academy
The Ogre: Vikki Vandale (SMASH with extra SMASH and a side of SMASH!)
Team Pet: Brimstone Mephit
Explosive Instrumentation: Cobalt Stinger's force field generator
Techno Babble: Averted by Cobalt Stinger
Black Box: Cobalt Stingers cybernetics don't exist yet.
Royals Who Actually Do Something: Naga Obscura
Master Of Illusion: Mindskewer can use her mind control powers to disguise her true appearance. -
Dressed to Kill: Anna Nethema, when she puts on the business suit.
Unusual Ears: Kathode (Cat Ears), Anna Nethema (Devil Ears), Brimstone Mephit (Devil Ears)
Civvie Spandex: Cobalt Stinger sometimes wears a trenchcoat over her spy catsuit.
Super Senses: Anna Nethema (Hearing), Kathode (Hearing, Smell), Brimstone Mephit (Hearing), Cobalt Stinger (Sight), Naga Obscura (Sight, Smell)
Psychic Powers: Mindskewer
Psycho Serum: Vikki Vandale
Villain Team Up: Subverted. Anna, Kathode, Cobalt, Vikki, and Naga form a regular team with Brimstone as an extra. Mindskewer, Amanita, Menshenbrecher, and Winterkill work together all the time.
X-Ray Vision: Cobalt Stinger
Where Does He Get All Those Wonderful Toys: Cobalt Stinger
You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Cobalt Stinger (bright green), Vikki Vandale (bright green), Amanita Infernis (green), Menshenbrecher (purple), Winterkill (blue with dark streaks)
Only Six Faces: Not many faces that I like using, so sometimes I have to get creative with masks, makeup, and other head details. -
[ QUOTE ]
So, I'm pretty sure I win.
[/ QUOTE ]
We'll see about that.
Magic Skirt: Somewhat justified with the leather miniskirts, but those pleated ones are plain gravity-defying.
Evil Is Sexy: Anna Nethema, Kathode, Vikki Vandale, Cobalt Stinger, Zetsumei Mitsukai. Amanita Infernis is still good looking if you don't mind the scar, and Rule Thirty Six guarantees that someone out there finds Naga Obscura sexy.
Green Skinned Space Babe: Subverted by Naga Obscura. She's got some monstrous features and doesn't find humans attractive anyway.
Prophetic Name: Anna Nethema (what were her parents thinking?)
Most Common Super Power: Subverted, all the girls have the boob slider set to the minimum.
Rebellious Spirit: Vikki Vandale
Combat Pragmatist: Everyone, including the one hero Zetsumei Mitsukai, is a dirty fighter.
Good Old Fisticuffs: Anna Nethema, Kathode
Good Is Boring: Vikki Vandale, Brimstone Mephit
Tsundere: Anna Nethema, Kathode, Vikki Vandale
Not Wearing Tights: Leather is much, much more popular. Armor comes in second.
Le Parkour: Anna Nethema, Kathode, Vikki Vandale, Zetsumei Mitsukai
Shorter Means Smarter: Played straight with Cobalt Stinger, she is the smartest of the bunch. Subverted with Vikki Vandale, she's clever but not nearly as smart.
Badass Bookworm: Cobalt Stinger
Taught By Experience: Anna Nethema, Kathode, Vikki Vandale, Zetsumei Mitsukai, Cobalt Stinger
Homemade Inventions: Cobalt Stinger
Mac Gyvering: Cobalt Stinger
Noble Demon: Anna Nethema
Death Is Cheap: Anna Nethema, Zetsumei Mitsukai
Alien Among Us: Naga Obscura, subverted in that she doesn't care if anyone knows what she is.
Cut Lex Luthor A Check: Subverted by Cobalt Stinger. She makes a lot more money selling her inventions, on the Black Market of course.
Pet The Dog: Anna Nethema, Kathode, Cobalt Stinger, Vikki Vandale
The Fonzie: Cobalt Stinger
Ensemble Darkhorse: Naga Obscura
Token Loli: Brimstone Mephit, of course she may be Really Seven Hundred Years Old.
Just Think Of The Potential: Cobalt Stinger
Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Brimstone Mephit, although she is a fire elemental after all.
Bad Powers Bad People: Subverted by Zetsumei Mitsukai, a hero with life draining powers of darkness.
Touch Of Death: Naga Obscura (Assassin Strike)
The Paralyzer: Anna Nethema (Touch of Fear)
Out Of The Inferno: Fire means nothing to Anna Nethema
Strong Flesh Weak Steel: Anna Nethema, Kathode, Vikki Vandal
Crowning Moment Of Awesome: Vikki Vandale soloing the entire Council during the Vridian arc.
Personality Powers: Anna Nethema, Kathode, Vikki Vandale, Brimstone Mephit. Subverted by Zetsumei Mitsukai.
Sexist In Leather Pants: Anna Nethema and Vikki Vandale are female versions.
The Juggernaut: Vikki Vandale
Neutral Good: Zetsumei Mitsukai
True Neutral: Naga Obscura
Chaotic Neutral: Anna Nethema, Kathode, Cobalt Stinger, Vikki Vandale
Screw Destiny: Anna Nethema
Code Name: Cobalt Stinger (aka Tatyana Ivanov)
Meaningful Name: Naga Obscura (Hidden Serpent), Zetsumei Mitsukai (Death Angel), Vikki Vandale (Vandal, duh!)
Names To Run Away From Really Fast: Subverted with Zetsumei Mitsukai, she's a hero.
The Toblerone: Vikki Vandale, she's a short female BRIAN BLESSED.
Stat O Vision: How Cobalt Stinger often sees the world. -

[/ QUOTE ]
Aww. I liked the name Snuggle Purr. It was funny, matched her personality, and lead to some hilarious battle cries.

Yeah, "Brackish" sounds like the name of some fish-person from the Amazon. -
And the list goes on...
Scars Are Forever: Cobalt Stinger, Amanita Infernis
Winged Humanoid: Brimstone Mephit (uses them to fly)
Power Gives You Wings: Anna Nethema (too small for flight though)
