I always wonder how some people are so poor. I've never had to farm to afford my IO builds and you don't need everything to be Rares and Purples either. Some of the best sets are in the Uncommon pool.

And truthfully, it would be nice if some aliens in CoH actually drove across the reaches of space in their ships to do their invading instead of everything always being part of this pan-dimensional, multi-earth concept that the devs have developed over the years.

    Just a thought.
Sounds like someone still needs to play "The Portal Bandits" (#3326) .

These powers are also problematic against foes that don't leave corpses at all, like CoT Spectrals and many kinds of Rularuu.

They say the same every time, and it's annoying. They should say it once, and then be silent.
I don't find it annoying when they talk to me, but I do find it annoying that I can hear them still when they're addressing someone else. It's almost non-stop if you're hanging out in a busy area like the Vanguard Base, I don't need to hear the NPC shouting at everyone who runs past like she's the hall monitor.

Isn't the whole reason why they cause lag is because they're physics-enabled objects?

I mean, a hundred characters hanging around doesn't sound like it'd cause much of a drain on frame rate (not considering combat here, mind you). There's plenty of busy places in CoX where you can find almost as many NPCs like that.

That was the whole reason they started making physics cards--you can have a great CPU and video card, but when you start dealing with multiple physics simulations in a game, the frame rate will go into a tailspin. Whenever I mess around in Gary's Mod, I can cause my computer grief by tossing a bomb into a pile of ragdolls. Not pretty!

So ... instead of having the ability to remove capes, what about an option to display physics-enabled costume parts as not-physically enabled instead? Simple animations for movement/flight, which might not look like the best thing in the world, but it'd save the computer the juice needed to process physics simulations ...
How 'bout updating the PhysX so that the option in the Display Settings in-game actually works when I'm trying to use my spare 8800GT as the physics processor? Right now the option is greyed out unless you have an old Aegia PhysX card.

With the single action revolvers you had to manually pull the hammer down. This resulted in the special maneuver called "Fanning the hammer" for rapid fire.

I knew that those Deadlands books were useful one day besides playing the game
Double and Single Action still apply to semi-autos. There are quite a few that are Double-Action only and some that are Single-Action (like the 1911) in which you need to **** the hammer for the first shot but the slide will reset it automatically after each shot. Most though have both modes, like my CZ-75 where the first shot can be either double or single action but every subsequent shot is single action.

If you want a fine 9mm, you can't go wrong with the CZ-75. CZ also makes some .40 and .45 models as well.

If you can't pull back the slide then being able to **** the hammer is meaningless as you need to rack the slide in order to load the first round into the chamber to begin with.

Also some designs don't have an external hammer at all, such as GLOCKs and Springfield XDs. Once you've racked the slide the gun is loaded and the internal striker is primed. The XD will indicate this with a small pin on the back of the slide that sticks out when the striker is set to fire.

Arcs by genre. This thread differs to the CoHmatoes thread as it links to authors' information (sometimes posters!) instead of reviews. Also, some of these genres are not superceded yet by the MA search keywords. But the links were a mess, formats varied, and some arcs no longer exist. So I tried to clean it up a bit. If it says post ID "@Someone" (a broken link) instead of a proper link, then the author should find their old thread and update the link. All internal forum links were broken in the forum migration.

Bullets colored for heroic/neutral/villainous. Non-existent arcs removed. Lists alphabetized. Arc IDs updated.[/color]

  10. Instant Healing = Go get a beer and a pizza, you're not going to be killing this guy anytime soon.

Arctic Air, Steamy Mist, Shadowfall, and Cloak of Darkness are really problematic on anything higher than LT as without +perception these guys will disappear completely if you are more than 50 feet or so away. When you're flying around an outdoor map looking for that required enemy this gets really aggravating.

I have a few nasty critters who are designed to be either really unique or used very rarely and as such are not autospawned. In once case a DB/Ninjistu LT who is used in one arc is spawned a total of 6 times across 2 missions, often enough to give players an occasional surprise but not often enough to make them overly paranoid and aggravated.

Remember that Minions have inherent magnitude 1 mezz protection, LTs have mag 2, Bosses have mag 3, and EBs have mag 6. AVs then have an additional mag 50 (except to Sleep) when the purple triangles point up. Adding a mezz protection power adds around 8-12 magnitude on top of all of that. An AV (who will still have purple triangles as an EB) with something like Unyielding on is essentially giving the middle finger to anyone playing a character who lives and dies by their control abilities and therefore making the arc nigh-unsoloable for most players of at least two ATs.

Yeah seriously, let's not turn this into City of Resident Evil where we need to solve some obscure logic problem to unlock a door and then wonder how all the villain's idiot henchmen manage to get around the place without being stuck ten times a day.
  12. So tonight I went poking around looking for a new arc and stumbled upon this.

    Arc ID: 335733
Arc Title: The Dark Side of the Moon
    Author: @Hallucinogen
    Morality: Heroic
    Length: 4 Missions
    Level Range: 40-54
Description: Thwart the plans of a hero's evil twin and save our world from invasion!

    Mini Review:
    ---------------
First mission needed a better hook in the intro rather than "no time to talk, go do something for me." Could also use some more NPc dialog, maybe some patrols. Instead of three scientists who say the same thing and give the same clue, you could use three different scientists with different clues or make only one scientist required (the one with the clue). The ambushes that the boss calls are much too big, had over a dozen robots on me by the time he went down. It was amusing seeing a battle between two Gravs, but Dominator beats Controller in this case.

Time for some Praetorian shenanigans. I don't see anywhere in the clues or dialog where he called himself Mooncipher, that's a bit of a plot hole. At least there is a good reason for Moonscribe to not be appearing inside the missions so far, the old "we need to split up and search every possible location ASAP" excuse.

Truefeather was right at the door, making this one of the quickest rescues of all time. Seems that she doesn't want to leave though and has powers of her own so she joins me to beat up Mooncipher and some guy called Steel Eclipse. Hey Truefeather, Fort me, not the Singularity!

Ok, things get even weirder when Steel Eclipse turns out to be Steel Equinox and he's friendly. I guess the comment at the start of the mission about this feeling like some weird soap opera was accurate. However, Mooncipher is now an AV instead of a Boss for no apparent reason other than because I have two boss-class allies with me, not that they were of much use since his Singularity kept knocking them around and distracting them while I did all the work.

Seems that the story is moving a bit past wife stealing and into Mooncipher causing general chaos just to make Moonscribe's life misreable. I'm not sure exactly where all these other fake Moonscribes are coming from, but the real one has decided to join me for this mission. However, it does make things strange in that the PPD are hostile to me as well right from the start when it should only be him that they're trying to detain. I haven't even done anything yet and already I'm being charged with aiding a criminal, strangely they're saying this to the Neuron robots running around. Why does Mooncipher have access to these guys anyway? Ah, that finally gets addressed here after I defeat him.

Mooncipher is also back to being a plain boss and the first I come across, really he should just stay that rather than moving up and down in rank between missions. I also get the impression that these other Moonscribe copycats are inside joke cameos, as their dialog implies that I should be able to figure out who they really are. Ugh, once again I come across a custom boss with Hurricane, this one is really annoying as unless you have +perception you cannot see him until you get pretty close, which is a pain if you're flying out an outdoor map trying to find the required objectives. On the plus side, at least the impostor with the hurricane was a plain ol' Nemesis fake rather than another in-joke. Oh that silly Nemesis.

Anyhow, Moonscribe now has his name cleared and it's time to stop whatever it is that Neuron sent Mooncipher here to do. It is a bit funny that if it hadn't been for Mooncipher's inability to keep a low profile we wouldn't have had any advance warning of this at all.

Now I got the impression from the briefing that Neuron himself was supposed to be attacking Atlas Park, but when I zone in I only see the objectives to find Moonscribe and Mooncipher. Once again the random spawns place both of them within spitting distance of the entrance. Perhaps one of these objectives is a trigger, especially as there are so many allies scattered over the map. Not sure why the author used the Atlas Park meteor map instead of the other one with the arachnos flier.

Turns out that Mooncipher has pulled a sudden Heel Face Turn, too sudden to be honest. I'm going to keep an eye on this guy incase he pulls a betray while we fight Neuron, who has suddenly been spawned.

I take a trip around to see the other allies and it's a bit extreme. Neuron is a Praetorian after all, but having 4 boss-rank allies is pretty overkill for fighting a single AV. Once again the ambushes were overkill as well. I'm on only +0/1x here and having over a dozen robots tripping overthemselves to get to me while I pound Neuron into the ground.

  13. Good god, the banner event did go on for way too long. Most people who gave a damn about the badges had them all before the first week was over. The winter event was similar, by the 3rd week it was getting very difficult to get anyone interested in Baby New Year and getting more than one team together for a Winter Lord was pretty much futile by the final week. Even on the more crowded servers.
  14. People wait until level 50 to slot IOs? I rarely see anyone redside without any set bonuses past the 30s.

It's never too simplistic to consider that option.
  16. Gravity seems to work better when paired with a mostly ranged set like Fire, Elec, or Energy.

Maybe you just need better teams.

Also, don't use Procs in Flash Arrow AT ALL. They just draw aggro and defeat the whole purpose of the power, even if the proc doesn't do damage.

Why use a slot for a KB resist IO, when you can grab a power and have it?
Grounded is a nice spot to stick a Steadfast in for that extra 4 pts of protection, plus some for whenever you are off the ground.

And the extra end drain resist from Grounded makes end draining enemies a joke. Sappers don't do jack against my Elec/Elec.

Yet if you log out and back in, the camera starts perfectly level. Obviously there IS a way to level the camera somehow -- why can't I have it??? Why must my fliers do a drunkard's walk, progressively correcting up and down a little, trying to find level flight to avoid scraping the road or gradually drifting up to the altitude cap?
There is a default key for "Reset Camera", which is what it is called in the keybinds menu and it does this very thing. I rebound it to "C" years ago, no clue what the default is.

  22. No, I don't feel like being inconvenienced by extra steps that I don't need just because some stupid people can't be trusted with their own information.
  23. Is Nemesis really so obsessed with himself that his alias has to be somehow related to his name?
  24. They really need to change the Search UI, it just looks old and stale with the same Guest Author and DC arcs hogging the first page all the time. It also isn't fair that an arc with hundreds of plays can be buried dozens of pages behind an arc with only a couple plays just because it's star average is slightly higher by a decimal point.

I'd like to see the search changed so that when you open it the first page would be a random selection of something like: 1 Guest Author, 1 DC, 1 HoF, 3 5-star arcs, 3 4-star arcs, and a few arcs that were published in the last 7 days regardless of their rank. That would make it easier to find some new stuff just by glancing at the first window.
  25. That would involve checking facts and such, something that news media doesn't bother with anymore.
