Best New Arc
@LaserJesus - Drakule vs The Werewolf Bikers from Hell #340316 - 1 point -
Quote:Someone should play "Of Futures Past" (254599) then.Pro Payne is open to submissions, and has one final slot available. At least I think that one slot is still open, so we’ll say it is. So who wants to be the last review Pro Payne ever does? Come on! You know you want to!

Quote:Only Virtue is allowed to have two events apparently. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because we already had a special event...

I wasn't impressed with the Hickman one last night, especially with all the Extreme mobs and crap-XP in the final mission thanks to that all-minion group, then an all boss escort for the AV so even less reward for the effort. Also too much telling instead of showing, where were all those hostages in the first mission supposed to be again?
Hopefully the Austin one will show some decent gameplay. -
You also don't want to make each mission too long or too short either. A long mission with very few objectives gets boring midway through. A map with a single room and one very easy objective makes the player wonder why they bothered to spend the time even zoning into the mission.
Overall, I'd say that four medium missions are more tolerable than three long mission. Of course this depends on the number of objectives in each on, but sometimes a change of scenery will go a long way to keep the arc from running out of steam. -
Bubbawheat and I got to run the Hickman one with Dr. Aeon and a full team on Virtue tonight.
I was not impressed to tell you the truth. First off, the story was rather hard to follow without access to the debriefings, kept feeling like I was missing something and there were not nearly enough clues. Many of the maps chosen were too big as well, not good for a five mission arc. Then there were the customs.
I would gladly take the reduced XP of Standard customs than ever fight these things again. Minions with Energy Drain. LTs with Lightning Field and Mezz Protection. Bosses with Knockout Blow, Dull Pain, and Unyielding! A whole map full of Ninjistu Minions who are nearly invisible except for us having Tactics and give crap XP for being an all minion group. And to top it off, the AV at the end of the final mission was guarded by a group entirely of those SS/Invuln bosses and there was an ambush with every damn annoying custom critter from earlier in the arc.
Overall it was only the team chatter that made the experience any fun. If I had been soloing I'd have quit in the first mission and never look back.
There were also too many instances of telling rather than showing. If I'm supposed to have seen hostages being beaten and such then there should have been hostages inside the mission, not a blurb after it telling me that I saw them. -
Quote:Good thing player notes and ratings are automatically global.I like the fact that my global and my characters are not shown in chat. Yes you can click on a name to check it, but the unknown is better. I adopt a different personality with each character, and some characters may have pissed people off. I am more me when I use my global to chat. So having the two not always associated is a good thing.

And in the end the LEAD Developer has the final say in everything. How is that different from the Comedy Writing Team example?
-
Hey, three City of Cute avatars in a row!
Well 4 now. -
Player Search would improve a lot if they gave the option to filter out all the people who are already on a team and causing the list to be truncated and hide many of the people are are solo.

Quote:Correct, he won't give a clue and will speak when you get near him. However make sure there are no enemies nearby or a fight will possible break out before you get to him and you'll miss the dialog.Closest I've been able to get to this is making a "Boss" detail who is "Ally" and not a required objective. This makes the boss and its spawn friendly to you. You can then give the boss some dialog; I don't think you can give him a clue this way, though, since you cannot actually "complete" the boss objective.

Quote:Seriously, what invasion? The only thing I noticed was that Heavies are not spawning as easily as they used to for some reason. One invasion we had several teams fighting at the same place and no Heavies, in another only 2 teams and we spawned over a dozen of them.My only feedback would be: I have no idea what if anything happened.
Also I've seen like 5 banner events on Virtue for every time the Rikti attacked a zone. What was up with that? -
Quote:Uh no, once the betrayal trigger is tripped they will be hostile until killed.I just ask my question here, because it's also an allie question:
You can set an ally and you can set an trigger that he will be attack you when something happen, but did this also work on the other way, I mean I have to deafet the ally and then he will follow me? This don't work, isn't it? -

Quote:Which is very annoying as piling new content on top of old content that is really showing it's age doesn't make the old stuff look any more appetizing.I expect you're going to be 100% disappointed. In the Q&A part of one of the Herocon panel discussions, the devs were very specifically asked about a Shard revamp. The devs made it very clear in the Herocon panel discussion that since it's almost as much work to completely revamp an old zone as to create a new one, they'd much rather create a new one.
Quote:It's a little frustrating that they seem to never discuss things like shortening the Shard TFs without embedding that in the context of completely redoing the whole zone. What they seem to have firmly in their minds is that either the Shard remains completely untouched or gets a Faultline-like revamp. Nothing in between.
Maybe then teams would be more willing to run blueside story arcs instead of scanners all the time, it's much easier to get an arc team running redside despite having less players around just because the arcs are shorter and have much less fedex-ing and zone hopping. -
Well bugger that. The main reason I want Rogue status on all of my characters is from being damn sick of "Sorry, we're all leveling toons on the opposite side you are tonight. No, we're too low to do RWZ content and we're working on badges/merits/etc that AE doesn't give."
-
Well when most of your population is concentrated into two time zones rather than four it's not a big surprise.
Don't the euros also have less servers than us? -
Quote:This was also a major complaint with the Architect Awards contest. Unless you showed up in the finalists list you had no idea if your arc had even been played. A lot of people were concerned about this since the entry rules included so many ways that your arc could be disqualified on a technicality without even being played. Also I know that I only received a email auto-reply for my first entry that confirmed that it had been received, my other 4 entries didn't get any response email to confirm that they hadn't been lost to the aether. (That arc submission that got the email confirmation was also the one that made the nominees list, I have no idea if any of the others got played at all.)I think a simple "Your arc has been duly evaluated for Dr. Aeon's Architect Challenge. Thank you for participating!" is sufficient to allay concerns for those who have them, and is a nice gesture. If he took the time to play through, taking the equivalent of 10 seconds to state they did so at the end is a vanishingly small time sink, n'est-ce pas?
Really, is a quick copy-n-paste comment "Dr. Aeon reviewed this arc that you submitted for X contest. Have a nice day!" so time consuming? -
The purple triangles will take care of the knockback issue by themself.

Quote:Seriously, someone needs to go back and fix up the old content, especially on the blueside. Laying more and more new stuff over it just makes it look even worse. Just making sure that contacts give their phones by the 2nd mission, moving more of the missions into the same zone as the contact, and cutting out most of the effin' defeat alls would do wonders. Especially for the TFs and Praetorian arcs that suffer badly from Defeat-All-Itis.You are correct.
What concerns me, however, is how the Devs dont seem to ever go back to old content. Or if so (Hollows, Faultline, Cape mish) it's very, very rarely. This whole emphasis on 'New shinies!' often leaves a lot of the older content, literally, in the dust.
Hell, even the New Cape mission has a HUGE error in it. The mission is meant to be in the same building "Just down the hall" (quote from the actual contact)...instead you get send across the park to some random, non-descript building. The door in the City Hall is THERE, its gets used in the Villain 5thSF, so....WHY in the name of common sense did they chose not to use it?! Oo
Quote:If it was already covered, I missed it. I'd like an option to NOT go talk to [whoever] -- the ones that introduce you to other areas, like the Hollows, Bloody Bay, etc.
When a contact says "Go talk to [whoever]", give us both an accept and a decline option. If we choose decline, then flag it as already done, same as if we'd actually gone and done it, and let us move on. Hanging that on the existing "talk about what else is going on" would be VERY logical.
Yes, I know all the workarounds. Yes, I know it doesn't take very long. Yes, I know it's valuable info for new players (which is why I don't advocate eliminating them completely).
But none of that makes it any less annoying the 20th, 30th, 40th time I have to go do it. I can't even imagine how annoying it must be the 100th, 200th, 300th time.
Please, just give us the option, okay? -
You can see the bottom bit serving as the ceiling in that giant Rikti portal room.

For Best New Arc I'd like to nominate LaserJesus's "Drakule vs The Werewolf Bikers from Hell" (340316).
It's another fun installment in the Drakule saga that ups the ante with demonic werewolf bikers, what is there not to love? Plus Dr. Von Hecksung is one of the most darkly amusing contacts ever. -
Quote:Regardless I don't want to relive the headaches of trying to put together a non-level 50 ITF ever again.Normally when we (the teams I have been on) need to fight at 50 in a zone event we ask that the star be passed to a 50, and/or a new team task selected.
The SSK system is by far and away better than the old system. In the old system getting teams even within my global community was hard because a mentor was required for EACH low level person on the team. No one 50 can have a team of level 10s if they want.
New system is great, even with its flaws.
