Quote:Well Grey Parrots are much larger than Quakers and have longer legs as well, which would explain that. The bigger the biped the better it must be balanced to keep from falling over after a single step.I have an African Grey and an Alexandrine, it may just be parrots but they both walk rather smoothly. They never ever hop, I don't think they can. Every time the Alexandrine "hops" it's just a short flight, she uses her wings to do it.
Yep, while some of the new stuff was made up for the movie it was for the most part a "Casino Royalization" in that many of the ideas really did exist in the original stories. People just still think of the old Basil Rathbone movies is that the problem is. -
My Nagan arcs not only could use a few more characters, but also some more details and dialog clues that got left on the cutting room floor.
Plus I'd like to make use of the new options listed in the i17 Overview, finally being able to set a "Return to Exit" objective without faking it all the time with creative boss placement or having an actual "Escort to Glowy" objective. -

Could you maybe link to the previous Player's Choice winners lists so people don't have to go hunting them down to figure out if their nominee is eligible or not?

I search the LFTs first but only within a certain level range, even after SSK I don't expect level 40's to be wanting to join a level 14 team unless they're quite desperate.
I did have an incident once where I formed a mission team and right before we entered I sent out a broadcast that we were full, so that someone who just checked their broadcast now didn't see the previous call and think that the team was still forming. Suddenly I get this irate tell "Why didn't you invite me?"
"You never asked for an invite."
"I was marked LFT! Can't you read?" (oh that is endearing)
I search his name and he is marked LFT. He is also level 50 and this is a level 14 team (and was advertised as such) nor does his search comment say anything about being willing to exemp. Nor did he answer the broadcasts I had sent out for the last several minutes.
All it got him was a 1-star and an ignore in the end. -

Key words: very few birds. Most would trip over their own front toes if they tried to run and I've seen mine try.
-
Quote:As someone who has 4 Cockatiels and a Quaker Parrot in his house, the larger birds do walk instead of hop but it is much more of a waddling motion than what we think of as walking.BAH! You people and your facts!
I would like to posit though that MOST birds just hop around. They don't really use bipedal locomotion. All they need is the large talon at the base to keep them steady.
Very few birds have feet optimized for running and walking. Most of them are adapted for perching on branches and climbing sheer surfaces. -

I upgrade my computer every couple years anyway, especially as parts wear out over time, so CoH is not really a driving force there.
Still, the $15/month I spend is way cheaper in the long run since I much less frequently put down $50 for a game that I will finish in a week and might never play again. -
Quote:Though it comes the cost of reduced stability, especially on for a bipedal creature. In digitigrade legs what you're thinking of as a "reverse knee" is actually the ankle. It's just that the carpals and tarsals are elongated and the animal walks on its toes. Which has some definite advantages for moving rapidly on the ground.
I guess it's very fitting then that my biggest group of custom AE critters are vulnerable to knockdown. -
Quote:Then you have the flipside, where people who had CoH as their first MMO try those other games and come back here talking about how all other MMOs suck. And then those same people come back and tell their friends how City of Heroes sucks.
There was an amusing quote I read about CoH somewhere once: "Depending on who you ask it is either a half-baked excuse for an MMO or the only MMO that is actually truly fun to play." -
Quote:7 mission slots is necessary blueside so you can run all of your story arcs without having to make a 3-zone trek back to each contact every couple missions for the first 10 missions of each arc. Plus all the crap filler missions to get out of the way before they each give you an arc.Y'know, I've been thinking about those 7 mission slots, and I've decided that number is so you can take, and then ignore the following:
Go see David Wincott in the Hollows
Go see the Freedom Corps guy in Kings Row to learn about difficulty levels.
Go see the PVP guy in Skyway city to learn about PVP
Go see Jim Temblor in Faultline.
Go see Stephanie Peebles in Striga Island.
Go see the PVP guy in Steel Canyon to learn about PVP again.
That leaves us one empty mission slot to run the important missions.
Redside there's not much need since you won't likely be able to find 7 arcs to run at the same time anyway. Plus they happily give up their phone numbers after a mission or two. -
This is unfortunately a byproduct of most other MMOs. They're all about the destination instead of the journey, so newbies come here and expect this game to be the same way and just refuse to believe it when veterans at every turn tell them that it isn't.

Nope. The cool jackets and that hat with the skull were the only things I liked in that pack and was very displeased to find that the majority of my toons could not wear them. Pass.

Quote:Doesn't mean they're team leader, and I don't pay any attention to those kind of tells as I don't want to be giving the team leader any impression that I'm somehow endorsing whoever this random person I've never met before. You can somewhat search for existing teams. Find people whose names are in grey in /search. It means they are in a team.
It also clogs up the list and makes it much harder to use it for recruiting people who are NOT already on teams, especially as the list gets truncated and you have no option to see the rest of the list. -

Quote:Hammer, meet Nail Head.To elaborate on this, I think originally you were supposed to do TFs in multiple sessions. This becomes even more apparent in the Shadow Shard TFs. Of course the dooming flaw is that that would require lots of planning and with various people of various schedules of free time and it would bar everyone who's not in an organised-enough SG to ever do Task Forces.
So naturally the players circumvented this issue by playing TFs in one sitting. The devs noticed that behaviour and realised that longer does not equal better, so eventually new TFs are short but sweet, generally gravitating around one and a half to two hours.
Long story short, the devs actually look at how players play the game and make new content accordingly. Multi-session TFs are just horrible to organise and nobody cares for that so instead we get one-session TFs that, might I add, also have less filler content.
Even if you were in an active SG trying to organize a multi-session TF was a royal pain. You had to find nights that every teammate would be on to make sure that someone wouldn't end up missing out on the badge at the end. You also had to use a character that you were willing to not play for a while as just being on the TF team meant that you couldn't do anything else while waiting so that character could be out of action for a couple days or even until the next weekend, not fun at all if you weren't an altoholic then. Even then real life has so many chances to intervene and leave you without half the team on the next TF session. -
One of the points that was brought up in the other tails thread was that the face and hands mark the point where a character can cross the line from "cute monster girl" to "furry" and plunge into the uncanny valley.
-
Ferret tail please.
Also some new coloration options would be nice, like being able to color the tip separately from the rest of the tail or having a ring tail. -
Quote:3 hours is too effin' long for ANY task force. There's a very good reason why every TF added to the game since issue 5 have been considerably shorter than the original TFs.Positon, a tf that can be completed in 3 hours by a team with at least 1 player who knows the ins and outs
At least they're finally addressing this issue with some of the old TFs rather than taking the cheap route of just throwing more merits on it to encourage people to run them.
