Geez, and already people complain about things like AE being a waste of developer time.
-
I just looked, all the toons I had up there are gone. Every slot is empty on both test servers, probably cause I don't have any toons on Freedom.

Quote:Dark Astoria is a level 20-30 zone, why would this arc be 30-40 and then 40-50?<b>Library Restoration Project - When Astoria Fell (Mission ID 331736). (Levels... 30-40 and 40-50 I think)</b> While the Banished Pantheon were busy creating the darkness that consumed this neighborhood, the Circle raided our branch there and may have been involved in the disappearance of a good friend of mine... Hypathia... If you can find out what happened to her as well as the collection, let me know...

Maybe Black Scorpion can figure out a real solution to the buffbot allies problem, rather than that last patch that trashed so many good arcs while doing next to nothing to slow down the ebil farmers.
-
Without XP then AE will be pretty much worthless to any character under level 50.
-
Screw that, just look at how long it has taken them to give out DCs and nobody has had a legit HoF in several months. This "approved arcs" idea only would add even more unneeded overhead. QA couldn't even find the problems in this patch, you'd trust them to play through your arcs and decide if you're worthy of giving rewards? You'd expect any of this to occur in a timely matter?
For the Nth time, most people will not play AE arcs if they give no reward and that includes a large subset of the authors as well. The "I'll play anything just for the story crowd" is very tiny compared to the total AE community. -

Quote:Assuming that your story arc wasn't affected by this patch, in which case if it is you're more likely to get worse ratings now since most players are clueless about this broken patch and will downrate you for giving them crappy rewards. The upside to all this is that the exploitative missions aren't being pushed out the door in such a large quantity, and are basically stale at this point, meaning you could feasibly push your actual storytelling to higher points on the list, where as before you hadn't a chance in hell.
This cannot be said enough times. I bet that this ended up in the patch by mistake and the Devs would rather cover that up than admit that they screwed up and roll it back. -
Quote:Still, this patch should never have gone live in this sorry, broken state and being told by the AE dev to just "grin and bear it" for an indefinite amount of time is not acceptable. Every day this patch is live only makes the damage worse. But in essence, this action is telling me that I did that wrong. Those npc allies were never supposed to be there and I shouldn't be using that sort of thing in my arcs. But Dr. Aeon is saying that isn't true and that I should just be patient and that this is being done to prevent a select playstyle by a group of players that does not include me.
So... okay. At that point, that's where my argument comes into play. Rectifying coding errors is right. Should be done. Dictating playstyle through code in general, unless the playstyle is so abusive that it adversely affects a huge number of other players is wrong, in my opionion. And in a non-competitive game where we aren't jockeying for position and never playing directly against one another, it will always be hard to convince me that this is the case.
I've stopped all advertising for my arcs in the meantime, there's not point in promoting something that is broken and cannot be fixed without many major rewrites as all 8 arcs got nailed by this mess. Advertising right now is just inviting poor ratings from people unaware of this bugged patch. -
Quote:And I very much prefer it that way.
City of Heroes really doesn't have any general 'hatred' towards those of a super powered/highly trained nature. -
Quote:Yeah, it's not like we didn't have a couple months of free server transfers in the recent past or anything. It's possible, perhaps, that the new people you are seeing are part of the existing player base who switched servers.
I know I've made some changes with my toons and in the past several months have played a lot on Victory, Liberty, Triumph, and Pinnacle, and hardly any on Freedom and Virtue. -
Quote:So now you're accusing me of being a farm writer? It's obvious that you haven't played any of my arcs then.A message to Farmers who don't think that AE farms are exploits:
They are.
@Lazarus - that was cheap and I'm assuming you're just annoyed with the patch 'fix'.
Yes I have a DC. I spent time creating my arc. I didn't even win the competition. Doesn't mean I'm a viable target for anger.
There are, as was inevitable, a few posters creeping onto this thread who are farmers, exploiters, cheaters - whatever you want to call them.
I just hope you won't 'whinge' or be a 'carebear' when your arcs are puleld from the AE.
In fact, don't play them. I couldn't care less about your opinions after this point. -
But you do need the Devs to actually LISTEN the first time instead of ignoring it and then having everyone go "I told you so" for months afterwards.

Quote:Edit Published Arc, click "Save as Local".A couple pages back, someone said that a fix would be to delete all the arcs and have folks republish the good ones.
I'm not buying it, personally, but it raises a question I've wondered about for a long time.
Very often, my published arcs get a LOT of tweaks and adjustments that the locally saved copies don't get. In fact, I've got really OLD revisions of various published arcs but not locally saved copies that match the latest republished revisions.
Is there any way to get a local save of a republished arc that doesn't wipe out ratings?
Sorry about the off-topic nature of this post, but it's something I've wondered a lonnnng time. -

Quote:Story is a reason to play an arc once.Fact is, given a game with two systems, one of which offers rewards and one of which doesn't, the players will choose the one that does. "The way it was meant to be used" and all that is a load of horseshit, the system is there to create story arcs in the game, and the game includes rewards. There's nothing wrong with wanting rewards when playing, no matter what those who for whatever reason want the AE dead say.
A story with good XP, good meaning equivalent to canon story arcs is a reason to play that arc again. And again with your friends. And again with a random PuG. It's a reason to tell everyone you meet about it. -
And yet somehow the GMs cannot find these farms, delete them, and ban the creators when we the players can easily find them in a matter of seconds. There's little point in reporting them anymore as weeks later they will still be there, the Devs would rather nerf the hell out of everyone with a tactical nuke than perform a surgical strike on the actual instigators.

Quote:This just pisses me off even more. The change that has been implemented is a temporary change to combat a long standing exploit. This was a stopgap fix that we had to put out until we could come up with a more permanent solution. We certainly do not want to leave your arcs in a state where using them in non-exploitive ways results in little to no experience being gained.
Myself, pohsyb, Television, War Witch, along with everyone else here involved in the operations of Mission Architect, are doing everything we can to arrive at a solution that we can all agree on.
We currently plan to implement a solution in issue 17 or soon thereafter (and I mean actual soon and not Soon™) . We can't go into detail about what exactly is planned, but it will alleviate the current issue that many of you are having, which is finding your normal arcs are rewarding little experience.
You claim that you have a more elegant fix coming with i17 or "soon". The pre-download for i17 began today, indicating that it is likely only a few weeks away. Also GR pre-order are supposed to get access to Demon Summoning in April, and now it's a week into it and still no sign of it while Dual Pistols arrived right at the start of March.
And this buffbot exploit has existed for months.
What made this so damn important that you had to screw over so much of your customers, many of who weren't farming anyway, RIGHT NOW when you could have waited a few more weeks? -
Quote:Writing good arcs.I don't think I've spent 60 hours on all my arcs put together. What are people doing?
Oh by the way, Dr. Aeon has finally spoken on the issue. -
Every one of my arcs got nailed in some way by this idiotic patch. It sends a really contradictory message too considering many the boosts to XP that i17 is supposed to be bringing with the newer custom options they announced.
And it's not just XP that is affected, it's all rewards. Influence and tickets are severely reduced as well. I tested one of my large missions with allies and got a whopping total of 6 tickets for the ending bonus, when the same mission with no allies at all would give over 100 tickets.
