Lightning Rod doesn't deliver a critical, but even though it alerts enemies to your presence, it also doesn't break Hide. So you can Rod in and then follow it up with a Thunderstrike (which will guaranteed critical your target with a 50% chance for enemies to get a critical from the the splash damage) for happy happy funtime.

I've either unlocked, or plan to unlock, the Alpha Slot on each of my 50s. That doesn't necessarily mean I'll bother with the work of actually slotting it or doing the content with each of them, but the ability to eventually build it up while playing a variety of characters is one I don't want to lose out on.

Quote:Regarding this part, at least, I think he's more referring to the concept of the Storm in general. Keep in mind, at the level range of Dean's arc, it's possible our characters are not yet familiar with Ouroboros, or even the notion of their goals (as the introduction to the letter also points out). The letter once again questions Silos' power over the other Menders. But that large chunk is the most curious. Why would our character be "all too familiar" with the Coming Storm yet? What does the letter writer need with an nigh-invulnerable man?
As for why the letter-writer would want Ajax's help...well, he wants our characters' help, right? As he said, he's assembling a team. It's always nice to have a good tank, right? There's probably not much more to it than that, in this case at least. -
D-Mac says the letter in his arc was handed to him by a man, though. Granted, that could have been a red herring, as one supposes that someone with the clout of Lady Grey could have an underling handle such things, I suppose. But it's still something to note.

I accidentally left a Hamidon reward window open from about a week ago, so when I logged in to start, I was able to get a four-shard head start. Grabbed a Gra'i Matter and joined an ITF, where I earned eight more shards and life was good. I actually forwent the common, joined a Lady G later in the evening, got seven more shards on that, and went straight to uncommon. And people say you can't be productive when you're on vacation!
I'm not expecting that sort of speed with my other 50s (not sure I'd even want it), but I admit, it was a highly gratifying way to start using the system. -
Awww, ya'll remembered my birthday. Thanks for the i19 guys, it was just what I wanted!

Going off memory here, but my DP/Traps Corruptor who is really starved for slots Frankenslots the Accurate to-hit and defense debuff sets for Acid Mortar and Seeker Drones. I go with two Accuracy/Recharges, one Accuracy/Endurance/Recharge, and a common Recharge. This should give capped Accuracy against up to +2s (+3s if you're running Tactics) and ED-capped Recharge for only four slots. An Achilles Heel proc is also nice in Acid Mortar, though, if you can spare another slot. Poison Trap I do two common recharge and a Lockdown Recharge/Hold.

If you want to get a jump on i19, what I've done is redone my builds without fitness, and any slots that were going into Fitness pool powers I "saved" in current inherent powers like Brawl and Rest. This means things like my exact Endurance recovery and the like requires a little math to figure out, but it's nothing tricky.

Okay, I'll buy that. My villains like to save the Nictus-guns they own for worthy foes as well. Doesn't quite explain why there aren't Voids hanging out at that Banished Pantheon base (or for that matter, why there are) or the presence or lack of Cysts, though. I'll buy keeping a five foot long energy bazooka in your pocket when it's not useful, but I'm not sure it would be so easy to do the same with a human sized self-propelling rock made out of aliens.

Quote:Isn't it just the opposite though? If the war's so wide reaching, then enemy groups should have Quantum gunners around regardless, rather than just conveniently having them around when a Kheldian shows up. Either alternative could be sensible. Get rid of them entirely or keep them around all the time (perhaps code 'em like Sappers so you don't get more than one per spawn though?).THought you said a "Better" idea. That's a "whiny" idea. I happen to like them. The world is reacting to *my* presence as a Kheld, I'm enough of a threat (and the war's wide reaching enough) to throw Q-guns and mercenaries out there to try to stop me, specifically. As opposed to "Oh, look, generic minion X, it's hero Y. No, no, hero Z is due ten minutes after this guy leaves. OK, places everyone!"

Bane Spider Cloaking Device is a bit nicer than other forms of Cloaking Device (or similar stealth powers). Generally, the portion the suppressed defense from stealth powers is 1/3 the unsuppressed value. Banes get 1/2, however. So if the unsuppressed cloak is giving just under 12% defense (which sounds right if you're bringing it up to the ED cap), then you'll get around 5.85% defense even when its stealth is suppressed. This does not apply to the Cloaking Device that /Devices gets, or Widows' Mask Presence, or most of the various other cloaks you may see with other ATs.

I'd suggest that if the BAF requires raid-level amounts of Incarnate characters to pull off a successful breakout, you wouldn't be going anywhere any time soon. And it certainly is doing better than the Zig. Or is there an area of Praetoria I missed that just has BAF inmates walking freely around in the streets outside the facility, doing whatever they please?

Quote:I think this is what drives me the most nuts about Voids and Quantums, really, but Voids especially. Here we are doing a mission full of zombies and guys that can't even afford a decent pair of pants and suddenly IT'S A PURPLE DUDE FROM BEYOND THE STARS!.The worst part is that in a lot of situations, the Kheldian enemies just don't make sense! They are a tacked on distraction to the actual mission.
Now, I'm all for the Council having these guys around, maybe even a few of the other factions that might be inclined to steal or buy the tech from them (Malta, Crey, maybe Freakshow, and a few others) having Quantum gunners. But if they're going to show up for those groups, they should show up regardless of team makeup, really. If those Malta agents are precognitive enough to know that a Kheldian's coming to stop them, they should know to, I dunno, retreat from the operation a little bit quicker? And Voids are pretty much "we can't think of any logical way this group would have Quantum guns, so instead they've made an equally illogical alliance with Council bounty hunters".
And don't even get me started on the logic (or lack thereof) behind Cysts all over the place. -
Quote:Some things will never be salvageable.Quick everyone! Get Serum, Temperature Protection and Poison's Poison Trap into your builds in preparation!
I'm imagining something like an AV with a mag-1,000 self-immobilize and a mobile, invincible Triage Beacon. We'll have to use lots and lots of knockback to keep them apart, or something. -
As secondaries go, /Thermal or /Poison might be good choices, as they both bloom fairly early and can be effective even pre-SOs, whereas /Traps, for example, can be great, but is a bit more reliant on higher-level enhancements. /Poison focuses on single targets, generally, but at low levels, so will most pets, so that's probably not a bad idea anyway. As for Primaries, Robotics or Thugs would probably be your best bet. If you're doing this with a friend who's planning to play an equivalent (or similar) character, I'd definitely say to go Thugs, as the Leadership skills from the Enforcers will stack across both of your sets of henchmen, giving some nice bonuses especially at low levels.

Starting at 20, you'll receive Tips at random for defeating enemies. It works like another kind of drop, but they appear as a tab in your Contacts window. Go to that tab once you have one, and choose to Investigate it (note that you need to be in a city zone restricted to your side in order to do so). You'll be able to choose between two different alignment missions, one for Villains, and one for Rogues. If your goal is to become a hero as quickly as possible, you'll want to do the Rogue missions. You can do up to 5 Alignment Missions each day. Once you've done 10 for a particular alignment, the next Tip drop you get will be for a Morality mission. Do the Morality mission and your alignment will be changed. Once you've become a Rogue, head to Paragon City (through any of the shared zones, or the submarine in Sharkhead), and the tip missions there will allow you to become a Hero from your current Rogue status.

I'm going to continue to stick by my expectation of the week of November 29th. i8, i11, and i13 all came out the week after Thanksgiving, and I see no reason why we shouldn't maintain that tradition (especially since I have that week off!). The one-week-later December 7th prediction is a reasonable fallback, though. Given the Christmas event's gotta start eventually, if they want to get i19 out this year, we'll pretty much have to see it by that point.

Quote:...maybe this just my sub-genius level intelligence, but I'm not sure how that impressive resume on the regards of balance and design gives any assurance as to you should or would be particularly skilled at playing video games. It's a rather different set of skills, really. After all, would you say that only the best players would make good developers?[*]Have you at any point been invited by a college to speak on game design and / or multiplayer balance?[*]Have you at any point been quoted in or used as a reference for a student of Digipen University in a paper on MMO Design, MMO Balance, or any kind of video-game design?[*]Have you at any point been quoted in or used as a reference for a student of any other college or university, such as Standford or M.I.T., in a paper involving any sort of Video Game subject.[/LIST]Strangely, I can answer yes to all 3 questions.

Let's speak a bit of Shiva meteors, the Coming Storm, and i19. There's nothing in Praetorian history that suggests the Shivan meteor wouldn't have hit, right? What if, in this case, whatever the Shivans are got "Devoured" by Hamidon (or vice-versa?). That might be an explanation of the creature's radically different appearance and level of success, no?

Quote:I know myself to be weak enough in terms of will to shell out for it. Reluctantly, perhaps, but it's not like the computer records how much I gripe at myself or facepalm before I click the "purchase" button. Still, ten bucks is a bit...wow. Considering that's how much all the various single origin boosters sold for, it makes me figure that we can probably expect a pretty nice price hike if we ever get something like that again, considering now they know what we're willing to pay for.I am still on the fence with this one too. Leaning heavily towards no at this point though because $10.00 for 15 costume pieces seems a little steep to me. Especially since I am pretty sure I have already seen one or two of them being used by enemy factions in-game. In the end it will all depend on how good it looks in-game.

The problem with Banners is that in most cases by the time there are enough people present to do it, there's generally not enough time to actually complete the durn thing, but on the flip side, since they happen randomly, it's not especially feasible to get a group together for one and then just sit and wait for it to happen. The event doesn't scale to team size like Zombies or Rikti, so there's nothing to be done with it if you can only get a couple people together. I think what would salvage the event would be to have a set up more like last year's Winter Lord event, where it could be more or less reliably triggered once you had people actually ready to do it.

On test, I did some RWZ Trick or Treating and was actually able to do the Halloween Tip mission there without having to zone. This was before they tossed the patch up to fix the badge rewards, so there's a possibility that was changed, but if it was, it wasn't noted as far as I could see.
