The last time someone compromised his principles in order to save Praetoria from a greater evil, Cole is exactly who we got. Deposing Tyrant and putting Tyrant II in his place leaves the world in the same spot it was. Nothing meaningful is accomplished; everything's just back to square one. Actually, it's worse than it was because how many people were murdered for the sake of accomplishing nothing? The Resistance sure likes to beat the "freedom" drum, never willing to own up to the fact that death is the ultimate form of oppression.

Quote:He seems to be doing a fair job of it at the moment.By the way, on this point. Scott is a man. Not a super. In a world of supers his ability to maintain any grip on power is marginal.
Replacing Tyrant with someone or something equally abhorrent accomplishes nothing. What happens after Tyrant's deposed? Well, now instead of people like Marauder and Neuron running things we have War Dog and Splice. I know, let's create a militant band to depose the new government! We'll make sure everyone has their safety and their freedom! Ooh, except that Scott fellow is pretty on top of things. Maybe we can destabilize him a bit by blowing up that hospital...
The Resistance accomplishes nothing if they don't first hold themselves to a higher standard. There has to be a point where someone draws a line and says "No. We don't do that. We're supposed to be the good guys here." -
I think it's more the inherent contradiction that is beating "the Well". Cole's not the problem as much as "Cole controlled by the mad deity-thing that is the source of all our characters powers". It's impossible to beat the Well because doing so would mean we can't have powers anymore.

You know, I've been thinking (uh-oh). If the Devs are going to play this whole thing with the Well and the Praetorians as painfully straight as it looks like they are, then, at least, there's another faction that needs, desperately, to be involved. A character, more aptly, who totally needs to make the most triumphant comeback possible. I'm talking someone who's already been shown to have a vested interested in the Well, and whom I can't imagine the Well not having an interest in as well. Someone who's been shown to have the Earth's well being as part of an ultimate endgame. Someone with the resources and manpower to stand along Arachnos and Longbow and Vanguard and form the sort of alliance that'd really send Tyrant and his buds packing.
I'm talking abut Countess mobberfegging Crey!
Seriously, run the arc where you take her down heroside if you haven't recently and tell me this wouldn't be a glorious chance for her to make her way to at least partial redemption. -
Quote:I'm pretty sure they only have one scheme as far as unversal conquest goes. "Open portal, insert robots.".Well, he and his thugs are fun supervillains to fight - plenty of moustache twirling and over the top schemes to conquer the multiverse with armies of stormtoopers and giant war robots - it's a very traditional kind of comicbook storyline - none of this "gritty" 90s nonsense
That said, what I want from an endgame is an actual reason to play though it with many of my characters, something challenging but that keeps me interested and engaged in what I'm doing. Basically, content like what we got with Going Rogue, but for high level characters rather than 1-20. In other words, pretty much the opposite of "do this same raid 10 times".
Oh well. -
Do you know if the assumed-trade going to have the pilot issue in it, too? I'm planning to get it either way; I'm rough on single books so I don't expect them to last, but it'd be cool if it did since I found out about this too late to find that one easily.

Quote:Well, I actually work for the ARC, so I'm biased, and I think it goes to a good cause either way.Ooh, good to know.
i've donated to the American Red Cross for disaster relief many times, but never specified it that way.
But yeah, while Red Cross will always honor donor intent, they can only do that, well...if they're told what the intent is. -
Quote:American Red Cross can and will also take monetary walk-in or mail-in donations of pretty much any amount in the forms of cash/check/pretty much anything. You should specify what it's for when you make the donation though, if you want it to go specifically to the Japanese earthquake relief. You can go to www.redcross.org and stick your zip code in the box on the right side of the page to get contact info for your local chapter.* Text REDCROSS to 90999; each text will provide $10 towards the Red Crosss efforts in Japan. Text QUAKE or JAPAN to 80888 to make a $10 donation to Salvation Armys efforts in Japan. Text JAPAN or TSUNAMI to 20222 for a $10 donation to go to Save the Children for the same purpose. Be sure to respond YES when they send you a thank you message.

Speaking from experience, they kinda suck on the Power arc for the "Defeat every Destroyer EVER" mission and have similar problems on the "Shen has a lotta Syndicate bodyguards" one as well.
But other than that...yeah, they do okay. -
As a single movie?
Freakin' Nextwave. Pull out all the stops, bankrupt a major studio on production. Then kick something until it explodes. Sounds perfect.
Slightly more realistically, I could get behind Planetary as a series. The suggestions of Transmetropolitan as a series also appeal to me (noticing a pattern here?), though I'm not sure that the sheer...spectacle that is the setting would translate well from comics. -

That's because the game never does. There's a quick statement about it in the "Become a villain" choice description, as a couple of people have posted here already, but it's never mentioned again once you actually do. That's because, obviously, no one would ever have any motivation whatsoever to side with Cole.

Quote:Tyrant appeals to ideals, even if they are frightening ones. "Mankind must be enslaved for their own protection" isn't something I personally get behind, but it's still a better mantra than "Screw you guys, I'm Lord Recluse!" It's just weird to me that Tyrant is seen as so much worse. That's another weird thing I've noticed about the loyalists - they complain about serving Recluse and Arachnos, but they seem to be falling over themselves in their desire to serve Tyrant and his thugs
In practice, though, I can understand why they did it. None of our characters, hero or villain, are really asked to be particularly loyal to anyone beyond basic lip service. This expands character concepts for the most part. If our characters had to be loyal to the FBSA or to Arachnos, we'd be more limited. -

Quote:To be fair, you rather do.I had to cool down a bit before I responded to this. All I did was repeat what the story written by the devs. Why did you feel the need to say I was sounding "self-righteous and uptight?"
To be even more fair, though, it's not your fault. As you say, you're just repeating what the devs have already said. Complaints should generally be lodged with the people responsible for writing the story that way, but sometimes it's easier to shoot the messenger, perhaps. -
His war plans in the Responsibility arc basically involve tossing non-powered folks in front of the Seers, and then summary executions to follow immediately if their brains don't read "Hey, that Cole fella is pretty cool". However, the opportunity does seem to be there. Heck, he even gives a chance to the character, as well. "Go check out how much this world sucks, but you can be at my side or at my feet later."

You haven't seen Recluse's future, have you? He's at least as uninterested in the whole "surviving metahumans" thing as Tyrant, and he has the added bonus of being completely uninterested in the whole "surviving anyone". Tyrant at least wants to keep a zoo.
-
The thing about it that kind of gets my goat is the way opposition to Tyrant just seems sort of shoehorned in. All the writing around this part of the story basically is about how absolutely nobody would support him under any circumstances and that doing so is such a horrible, horrible idea that it would be completely unthinkable to anyone no matter what their goals.
This is ignoring the facts that:
(a)Apparently, some people are fairly cool with the idea. If Tyrant is good enough for Marauder, why can't he be good enough for some of our characters?
and
(b)We're already given the opportunity to support people who are hella worse. Really, why is throwing in with Arachnos seen as higher on the mental health scale than throwing in with the folks across the dimensional gap?
