Use my power for Evil answer: Death lottery! Go through everyone's account and delete one character, chosen at random. Will you lose the 50 that you spent 3 billion influence to purple out? Will you lose the the guy who's been sitting at level 4 since the day the servers opened? It's all a roll of the dice. And since I'm only in charge for one day, someone else can deal with the fallout!
Use my power for Good answer: Flag all the NPC costume parts for use by players. Screw clipping issues and awkward animations! We already have those anyway, and people seem to be able to avoid messing things up. So open the floodgates! -
Quote:I think it's all in the execution. A sad ending can be really, really good, but like you said, it has to be done right. A poorly executed "sad" ending generally just feels hamfisted and is usually worse than a cliche happily-ever-after sort of affair. It's also, I think, harder to do correctly (or perhaps just not as commonly appropriate).I've never understood why people don't like or won't accept sad endings. I love a good sad ending (when done right). Besides, technically there is a happy ending to this movie.
So I think it's less about people's reluctance to accept them and more about the rarity with which they're pulled off at an acceptable level.
That's speaking generally, though, without regard for this specific movie (which I haven't seen, and based on sentiments expressed in this topic and elsewhere, don't expect to see at this point, and hence, won't comment on the specific execution of the ending). -
TS was going to has been the Last Kheldian. I think. I may have the tense a little wrong.

With just a couple of notable exceptions, if I see someone advertising for pretty much anything, and they're looking for anything more specific than "more people", I generally don't bother. This game, to my mind, should be, and for the most part, is something where you can succeed by being a good player on a good team regardless of AT spread.
The only exceptions are asking for the Temp Power ATs for the Barracuda SF (which is, to my mind, pretty much the pinnacle of both bad design and bad storytelling, and which I'll probably ignore advertising for anyway) and for controls on the Lady Grey TF (where more controls can be handy, though with APPs and a smattering of other such abilities, I think most teams tend to overcompensate anyway). -
Quote:Right, so they give us the same little-if-nothing to do, and advertise it as a whole new system. If they'd introduced purple enhancements along with the ITF and called that an "endgame system"...it'd be about the same as we're getting now.A lot of people were asking or them to make a big deal of it by actually making an endgame system
The problem is that this is supposed to be something new to do with our 50s and there's absolutely no meat to it. If we want any sort of reward we can do them again. And again. And again. That, however, doesn't alleviate the problem that led to people demanding and "endgame" in the first place.
Now, I am fully aware of how unreasonable it is to expect the Devs to create new content as fast as people can play the new content. However, I still think it's fair to see a problem when I can have a character completely done with the "content" part of the new Issue in less than two hours, especially when the new powers part of the system is going to take around 30-40.
The "create a massive number of alts" aspect has generally enabled us to avoid the problem of "nothing new to do", because playing different characters allows us to approach old content differently. By maintaining the same low level of new content, while simultaneously discouraging playing a large number of characters, we create this grinding feeling. -

I'm going to take issue with this last bit. The Coralax didn't change Vincent's memory, his exposure simply...tinted his worldview, and we already have precedent for that bit, since Barracuda's origin is effectively the same thing.
-
Until now, the Devs weren't making such a big deal about "look here's stuff for level 50s to do!"

Try a Claws stalker, fresh from Praetoria. It's a fun mission, but there's a distinct feeling of "Haven't they figured out they won't win yet?" after a while. Though Overdrive's TF does make up for it. Getting to be the AV was pretty awesome.

Quote:So then, conversely, if you don't die, then you are level 51?Excuse me, but if a level 50 minion does enough damage to kill a level 50 character but not enough to kill a level 51 character and you die, then yes, that means you're still level 50.
In that case, I'll happily point out that said minion's damage is reduced due to the level shift. Meaning you won't die. Level 51. QED. -
This is an interesting point, and I agree with it in theory. In practice, however, I'm not so sure. The function of a multi-issue long-running story arc should be to develop that story over time, and go into more detail with that story. The situation in i20 as it's presented thusfar is pretty much still the same situation it was in i19. The i18 to i19 build up wasn't bad. It was "we're going to fight Praetorians" leading into "we're fighting Praetorians". But with i20, it's more of a "yep, still fighting 'em". In comparison, i10 got us the same level of story content, if not moreso, in just that single issue. We seem to be getting all the negatives of drawing out this story, and none of the benefits.

I use it because I'm level 51.
I mean, it only takes one more point of XP after level 50. How are you not level 51 by now? -

That's only because at that point, "not destroying the hospital" furthered his agenda more than destroying it. In concept, he was not just okay with it, but actively approving of such action.

I'd expect Synapse/Tarikoss to be up first, since that's the only spot that has coverage on both sides (or is co-op) and hasn't been done so far. Might do Citadel with Renault (again) sometime during the month as well. And more Kahn/'cuda, 'cause the devs hate me.

I'm going to echo a lot of the same sentiments people here have towards Malta. They have some good stories (World Wide Red is still one of my favorite arcs...in fact, it's probably number one), they're fun to fight (though having to clean up the gun turrets is awfully tedious), and I just generally enjoy the concept of of them basically just being normal guys...normal guys who will totally mess up your day, Mr. "I fly around and shoot lasers look at me I'm so great". Yeah, well, Eagle Red 1-5-8 has a couple pistols. And guess who's gonna win?
My other favorite group, which I haven't caught any mention of in this topic so far, are the Nictus. I know a lot of people prefer the 5th to the Council, but the machinations surrounding Arakhn, Requiem, and all the others; the alliances, the betrayals, they all manage to be delightfully intriguing. And again, I just sorta like the alien-hybrid thing they've got going on. The game really needs more "hybrid" Nicti. The generic Galaxy soldiers, and the constantly-shifted regular Nictus bosses are too vanilla. It's a shame AE doesn't allow for building using Warshade powers. -
When alternate animations were announced for MA and Super Strength back in i16, I was totally all, like, "Man, I really hope they use the Impale/old Slash animation as a punch somewhere in there!" And then I found out they did...in the one power that I could never bring myself to change the animation on. And I let out an epic "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Seriously, the punch animation is totally cool, but the whole reason I pick Martial Arts as a powerset is to do a midair backflip by kicking off people's faces. -

Why would the savior of humanity tie the continued survival of our species to his one specific life? Only a madman would do something like that! Our emperor is too kindhearted a soul to let that sort of thing happen!

I have a really basic one that tracks my characters, their powersets, servers, and levels. It's mostly for fun more than anything else.
I also made one recently for tracking Incarnate salvage that I can use to check things off as I get them and figure out what might be useful to run in order to get what I want. I've already gone ahead and prepped it for i20, even, especially since the loot lists for that are a real nightmare. -
Well, assuming "the most cool looking power" is still something moderately useful, and "most mechanically strong" isn't absolutely horrible, give me the former. I can speak from current game experience that I like to be effective, but I darn well better look good doing it! I have avoided powersets and individual where I don't like the way they look, even if they were highly effective. I also have an /Earth Dominator whom I love to spam Stone Spears with.

Quote:This might have more weight if there were already some sort of legitimate alternative in place. It's already established that the Resistance was all their own disparate bunches of anarchist factions until Scott stepped up. Scott giving up control leads to situations just as bad as him taking it. There are good people in the Resistance, just like there are good people in the Praetorian government. The problem is that none of them have any sort of way to claim legitimate power in it.That's the slippery slope argument. And it's always been rubbish to me. Each decision you make is an opportunity to turn back. Just because you take the fight to the tyrant doesn't mean you're going to decide all of a sudden that you want to sit on his throne. Sure, that happens throughout history, but there's also plenty of times the usurper allows someone else the reins.
Quote:Even then, I disagree that Cole fit that model. There's plenty of evidence that Hamidon isn't as signficant a threat as its made out to be. Primal Hamidon is well contained.
To reference the medium from which the game draws inspiration, think about the X-Men villain, Apocalypse. Whenever he shows up, the heroes manage to dispatch him, sometimes with laughable ease for a guy who's built up as such a threat. And yet, we still had the old "Age of Apocalypse" crossover back in the '90s where this same "well contained" villain managed to live up to his name quite nicely in the end, simply because he managed to catch the heroes off guard with an overwhelming strike. Praetorian Hamidon was the same way. A more dangerous villain required more drastic measures. But like the Resistance says, drastic measures are justified when you're fighting against a greater evil.
