  1. I get they like to add some variety to the casting, usually with secondary characters since majority the characters upon conception were white. I don't blame the comic creators for it, as they were working with what was acceptable, as over time more and more characters have been given more diverse backgrounds.

But on the same token how come being white isn't considered a defining trait? It reminds me of This. Why is being white always considered blank slate characters that we can easily interchange and somehow the character remains the same, but if we change say Luke Cage into a white guy it's a problem?

I think with in my own life my ethic background has contributed to who I am, as if I was born hispanic would probably radically changed my experience growing up an heavily hispanic neighborhood. Whether I was taller I might be it might changed my life. If I was really fat it might have radically altered my life. So many variables to just say taking a character and flip flopping their race is unimportant is a gross over generalization. It's not that cut and dry.

My thoughts are if you really wanted to make a alter version of a character with simliar powers, Why not create a brand new character? Say if you wanted to character a black superman, we saw this a bit with Hancock.(which during the middle of the movie when he saves the bank he really came across as a bonefid super hero, as he was damn heroic. Something I could have really got behind.) In the case of we didn't see them beat us over the head with the fact Will Smith is black all film. It was an aspect of his character, but he was still a 3 dimensional character not a sterotype to the end. It suffered from some hang ups from a disjointed story but it had nothing to do with race.

I can understand people wanting to see more diverse characters, as my heart went out to the obituaries when I read the article about Perry Moore, producer of chronicles of Naria, and author of the book hero about a gay super hero. He expressed frustration with watching most gay characters always being secondary characters and often suffering from girl in the fridge effect. I think everyone should have a character they can identify with too, and not feel like who they are can never be the hero of a story. That they are destined to always be saved, trampled and over all insignifigant to world unless the white male lead does it first. There's definitely room for improvement but toss to a few hand out secondary characters to minorities isn't exactly the right answer. There needs be something geniuely compelling to the character on it's own to appeal to a wider audience.

It's a tough postion as some change is probably in order to diversify things to get everyone into the story. It's a hard call as you don't want to tick off anyone but not everyone is going to be happy with whatever you do. Why going with original compelling characters is probably the best solution.
  2. Heh amusing episode, though I'm surprised more people aren't swooning over her friend in the lab coat. Nella, dark or otherwise not so much.
  3. "Stop...or there will ..be ...trouble!"

I think I was in 2nd or 3rd grade when it came out. I didn't see it till was on TV as an edited version. I enjoyed the heck of it none the less. (My dad watched all fun stuff with me, Aliens, Predator, Terminator and Robocop with me...TV edited but he still let me watch it.) I'm ok with them rebooting it. It might be fun too.

  6. So we're assured there will be 4 deaths for the next year? That's probably lower than usual amount to be honest heh. May be since they'll be planning for them they'll have better written ones than all pure shock value....or all shock value like usual. (which how little there is given character come back as quickly as if they were playing CoX. Oh you died...awaken...hospital run....self rez.) Now if it was every month than that would get silly fast, but quarterly, someone dies probably about that rate normally. (a Titan dies every cross over at DC.)

So is this really even worth mentioning or building up as to me it be more shocking if they didn't warn us it was coming and people go hey someone died every quarter after the fact. But that's me. It's not like people ever stay dead for long anyways.
  7. Looks alright, but I just I can't help but be very reluctant to see any more xmen films especially since they'll likely reboot again if this one tanks and marvel reclaims it's IP. So avoiding it might be doing the property a favor in the long run.

Although I'm not holding my breath on TF3....even in the trailer there was a lot of 'action' but it was moving so fast you couldn't see what was happening (one of my bigger complaints in the TF movies but especially in TF2).

I've never had that problem really watching the films. Do I have that much better reflexes than most, or is it simply I know exactly what I'm supposed to be looking for? I mean i could tell who was doing what the first time I watched it. Ironhide and a car like barricade smash head on into each other and transform. Then we see Prime tag team with Silverbolt(the Jet who flies with him and spins off as prime using the momentum to zoon thru them with.) smashing thru 3 decepticons. It will be very easy to see what's going on a massive IMAX screen heh. I'm lookingforward to that.

watching the Transformers now (I have the '86 movie in 6 different formats, so yeah) theres alot of animation errors and things like that, but theres a soul to it that doesn't come across in the new transformers stuff, and believe me, I give them all a chance.

I strongly disagree with your assessment as Transformers has reinvented itself more times than Madonna. They change up stuff every time. Sometimes for the better others for the worse but it never gets stale. even the series I wasn't always crazy about usually had one or two cool ideas added to mythos or a awesome new take a character. (Such as the movieverse Blackout and Barracade are the current definative versions that we'll continue to see in the future as Animated and war for cybertron showed.)

Animated made no more changes than any other series did. In case of the new films the cast was basically lifted straight from G1 in personality for the first film's cast. (Jetfire might have been old but he maintained his two G1 traits of being a turncoat and their taxi service.)

There's always enough staples that get references and enough fanservice along the way even if some of the players get switched around.

Transformers Animated was one of those shows that either resonates with fans of the property or completely clashes with them. Personally, I enjoyed the show.

And one thing I must say that made me a fan of Transformers Animated forever was that, for 26 years, the Decepticons were bereft of a motto. Everyone knows of Optimus Prime's, "Autobots: transform, and roll out!" but what did the Decepticons get? Nothing, up until animated, when a gravelly-voiced Megatron proclaims, "The Allspark takes precedence over a few insignificant Autobots. Besides...they're not long for this world. DECEPTICONS, TRANSFORM AND RISE UP!"

When I heard that, I leapt out of my seat and called everyone I knew.
A mod after my own spark heh. Prior to Animated (particularly G1) Decepticons retreat was their battle cry as they shouted that more than anything else. Animated started off slow, as I'd recommand to anyone to cherry pick the first season for anyone who missed it. It really picked up though at the end of season 1 and season 2 on. There was so many awesome moments as it was easily the best written series since Beast Wars.

Animated Megatron might possibly be the greatest version of Megatorn to date. he actually had plans that worked and I loved the way he considered Optimus Prime beneath him as he never called him by name like Mr Burns does to Homer. Wasn't till Endgame Prime finally brought his A game and impressed even Megatron proving to be a worthy nemesis. (which was funny hearing him call prime a knock off of Ultra magnus haha.)

Anyone put off by the art style or just assumed it was too kiddie was dead wrong as they really missed out. Animated was awesome.

That's varies from the current continuity at a given date. Some stories they couldn't, other ones they could. During the 90s post crisis reboot they were incapable which was part of the reason Maxima (prior to dying at the hands of imperiex protecting superman from his blast by jumping in front of him.) actually had a very small shot at dethroning Lois for the storyline when she was trying win him affections around the time Doomsday showed up which she helped fight. Her race was close enough kryptonians that it would have worked.

This one of those times I wouldn't have picked who the character picked to pair off with if I was in their shoes I'd taken maxima over Lois and Black cat over MJ, but I seem to always be drawn to the slightly crazy/wild ones. It's the Batman/Cat woman deal. (or Silverbolt/Black arachnia if you re a transformers fan.)

In anycase Lois usually always came across as too be-witchy for my tastes and thought she was too good for Clark 90% of the time. They rarely seemed to have much chemistry, so I never got why the pairing. (Which in the Timverse they had Bruce Wayne date her , which showed just how superfical she really is. Like unless you're a billionaire or super power Lois Lane doesn't have time for you.) She's easily my least favorite like female love interest in comics. I just don't get the attraction unless you re just a masochist, given all punishment Superman is known for taking that just might be the case.
  14. Yeah i saw this awhile back. It's a cool idea even if it's not quite Stark armor levels of flight.

After years of seeing Noel Neill as an attractive, professional and mostly smart Lois, we got the comic version (and not very attractive), Margot Kidder. She was a neurotic idiot. There was very little that made her appealing as the "love of his life." Heck, compare Kidder to the way that Annette O'Toole later played Lana Lang . . . Lana was a lot more attractive than Lois.
I forever blame Margot Kidder for my disdain for Lois Lane. She was my first impression of the character as a kid, and jaded me from ever liking her in anything else. I was always thinking why in the world would Superman want this woman...especially so many other hot super powered babes in his world like Wonder Woman or Maxima who can actually give him babies. Margot Kidder was so bleh. If there ever was a world to fly so fast you spin the world backwards to save...it wasn't her. One of the worst movie castings ever.

I'm hard-pressed to think of a single instance where an 80s cartoon property was rebooted and it wasn't handled with care--and, dare I say it, sometimes came out a lot better than the source material. The people who reboot these shows, thus far, obviously have a lot of love for these series and have done right by them.

I say, give 'em more. Reboot Centurions. Reboot Bravestarr. Reboot Bionic Six. Reboot M.A.S.K. Reboot Jem--well okay, no, don't reboot Jem. It's too fantastically 80s and it should be left preserved in all its glitz and glam awesomeness.
I agree. (especially the cartoon network He-man, that was waaay better than both the 80s and the especially lame 90s version.) I'd love to see them go back and redo most those and then some. I'm frankly we haven't seen a M.A.S.K. reboot yet to be honest. (or an attempt at a live action film.) Add galaxy rangers and visionaries as others Id like to see get again stab.

I'll never get the oh they'll butcher it and these properties are too sacred of cows to reboot mentality.(given some of those shows were not all that or simply don't hold up well.) I like there to be new adventures to see of IPs. Sure some reboots will suck, but they don't stop the original from existing. There's beating a property to death, but these things have all been shelved mroe than long enough to say that's not the case.

Once again, I'm the only person who like Origins.
I thought was alright up till the mind wipe bullets. (how in the world would striker know it would do that?) That as easily the worst idea of the film. I mean Wolverine already had a backstory covering how Weapon x screwed up his mind that made more sense. ( on top of the whole his mind heals over bad memories bit.) I could have forgiven the majority of the film besides that. I get they wanted to squeeze everything into the film, but this wasn't how to do it.
  18. Lion-o Strife is it. (seriously he looks like a demi human version of Cloud.) The original show was really bad, so honestly anything can be an improvement. Especially the voice overs. I know if you were a kid during the 80s you watched these shows. You had to as it was part of the block of stuff you could watch after school and that was it as you went off to do your chores and homework before the nonstop onslaught of kids shows on cable 24/7.

Thunder cats is something best left in your memories. Your nostalgia is right where it belongs. I caught an episode a few years ago when one of my roommates flipped it on when either Cartoon Network or Boomerang was running it. Some cartoons hold up well enough to be mildly entertaining such as transformers or Centurions after all these years. Not Thunder Cats. Oh it aged about as well as Michael Jackson. We were just laughing at it between the silly writing(even by kid show standards. It was really weird at times.) and stuttering voice overs. Like the janitorial staff did it. Which they did a land-sea air trinity with Silverhawks, and Tiger Sharks(this one obviously sucked the hardest as it lasted the least time of the 3.) reusing the majority of the same actors and these shows were even worse than Thunder Cats for most part.

I probably will check it out just for sake of seeing it as I usually watch cartoons online after a bunch of them get out there. If it's worth watching I'll show my sisters kids and watch it with them. Otherwise Ill dump it into the same bin I left the original in my brain and most of what i learned grade school.

Well in their defense if it were a Captain Marvel or Hulk film people wouldn't likely be the role of both the title character and the alter ego. So for few times that might be the case for a super hero movie where they have some sort of change between froms they add that.

You're right, you re allowed make that call. Just like most of the posters here I'd say your reasoning isn't very sound given how small part of the show it is, and not the actual story. It be like driving a car 5 feet and saying it handles poorly is reason you didn't bought it, not because you couldn't afford it or some real reasoning that makes sense.

Given it litterally costs you nothing to watch, you don't have to catch it when it airs(making your trailer comparsion moot to this.), and if you love these characters in the past or super heroes in general there's a good chance you will like this show is all everyone is getting at. Taking an ignorance stance and bothering to come into the thread about just seems silly on multiple levels because you aren't even giving an educated opinion or contributing anything productive to the topic. Just feels like crap stirring for sake of going against the crowd. Not because it's cool or even a good cop out for not doing something. So if you get railed in this thread, don't be surprised by the backlash. So simply be as done with this thread quickly as you were with the show and save everyone else some time if you don't care to form a real opinion.
