It's not practical. In order to do it, you will spend unreasonable amounts of slots and power choices chasing set bonuses, crippling the build - and there's the question of why you are trying to build for ranged defense with a secondary that is largely made of weak PBAoE DoT powers. Even getting melee defense is hard, since Obliteration has almost no EndRdx, and /Fire has two end-heavy damage auras.

That's neat.
I pick up temp powers and Day Job accolades to fill out character concepts. My elf knight got the bow and arrow from Croatoa. My cyborg street samurai got fragmentation grenades and the Vanguard psi shield (which also nicely solves SR's problem with nonpositional Psi attacks), etc. -
The table is very, very nice because it saves you time zoning in and out of your base to craft.
Another neat thing is with all the crafting badges as well as the Vanguard Storage Sack, a level 50 character has a salvage inventory of 80. This is exactly enough to craft two full stacks of IO set enhancements (4 pieces of salvage per recipe). -
It has no visible aura or effect when turned on.

I just wanted to say that we are officially in the "???" phase as of about five minutes ago. Hopefully, we'll be in the "PROFIT!" phase soon. That's provided I don't go bust in the first three days
I'll be posting weekly reports, so you can know that I'm not being lazy. -
Don't forget PvP. The right lucky drop would net you over a billion!
-
But why would I do that? Then we'd all be gone to the Americans!
DumpleBerry, I'm going to try and catch you before Monday maintenance, but even if I can't, I'm going to start marketeering on schedule all the same and collect your share later. It shouldn't affect anything. -
Quote:Agreed, except for Parry. It's a dainty flick of the wrist that doesn't really fit in a set so full of SMASH.You're entitled to your opinion, but I find Broadsowrd's family of animations to be by far the best-looking melee attacks in the whole game. No exceptions. Head Splitter/Cleave/Shatter have been my favourite moves since day one and I've never found anything cool enough to surpass them. Oh, sure, Dual Blades and Martial Arts have fancy spins and tricks, but nothing quite compares to the SMASH!!! of Head Splitter. Or... Hell, to the brutality of just about any of the Broadsowrd attacks.

I seem to keep missing people by moments - Dumple, you friended me when I was out for 10 minutes buying stuff.
This thread suddenly seems to have attracted lots of attention. Yesterday someone I'd never met before sent me tells asking for market mentoring. He commented that there seems to be insider info that most people aren't aware about. My first thought was that if I had that sort of knowledge, I'd be writing columns for City Scoop

My observation is that high-level common salvage counts for a lot of those items that did sell (Ceramic Armor Plate, Hydraulic Piston, Nevermelting Ice, Fortune, Mathematic Proof, Temporal Analyzer).
Traditionally 40-50 commons are massively oversupplied, hence players delete them on the assumption that they won't sell for much. Conversely, most recipes crafted are level 50 ones, which use these commons. Add that to the shortages caused by AE and DXP weekend, and it's no wonder they sold. -
I'd take Gambler's Cut, since it does more damage per animation time; it's also an excellent place for procs due to the very low recharge and animation time. Sting of the Wasp offers nothing special to a build.
Divine Avalanche is actually a very poor attack, DPA wise (either the worst or second worst in the entire set, I forget). That's why top-end builds that are softcapped and don't need the extra defense skip it to improve their DPS. -
If he does crafting, he will be stuck being at Steel Canyon, or will have to zone in and out of his SG base to use its crafting table, or will need to get Field Crafter (which takes quite a little investment itself). That's a fair bit of hassle, and the income from crafting commons likely won't come close to what he can earn farming.
I would recommend flipping salvage. Prices are still distorted from DXP, but you can typically pick any one rare salvage, buy at around 600k-700k and sell for 1m. But my honest opinion is that if you don't find marketeering fun, don't do it. -
When people ask how to avoid the market, it's usually not avoiding the market that they're interested in. After all, the market is already 90% avoidable: except for purples, PvPIOs and a few other items (e.g. respec recipes), everything in the game is available through Merits or tickets. What they're really asking is how to get what they want while paying trivial and inconsequential prices.

...Never. I don't even log on to test server to look at new features, except for one time my friend asked me to try out his MA arc.
Please don't take this as a whine about how the game is dying and doooom.I'm happy with the game as it is and don't intend to leave anytime soon. It's just that most of the features announced in the year Ive been playing have been more "oh, that's neat" rather than "Exciting!" But I'm content with what we have.

In real life I'm lazy, somewhat timid, scatterbrained and a little dumb.
In-game I'm a minmaxer and I take planning in advance to extremes. I have purpled and PvPIO'ed builds whose recharge requirements are calculated based on the animation time of my attack chain. I smile whenever I see someone state that they play the game for fun, not numbers. The false assumption is that anything to do with the "technical" side of the game must necessarily not be fun.
My extensive planning goes beyond just IO builds and statistics. For those of my characters who took Hasten, for example, I designed their costumes' color schemes to match the power's gold-orange glow. (I also considered the build implications of not taking Hasten, balanced against costume considerations.) I spend long months agonizing over my choice of name, concept, and little costume details like shades of color. I refuse to get Day Job accolades that don't fit the character's history (and have rerolled one character who accidentally picked up an extra badge).
I'm also a shameless powergamer. There's just something terribly cool about running into a boss while playing a story arc, noticing it's not falling over instantly, and going, "oh, it's an AV... this will take a little longer than usual." -
Personally I've not seen many complaints about things like these, whether on the forums or in-game.
Most of the grouses I have seen revolve around the game getting harder: how they can no longer afford purples, how X power or Y powerset was nerfed, how this or that change made their farming less lucrative or their drops less frequent, etc. -
I have the ability to make money at a rate that's sufficient for my wants. That makes me rich, however much money I have in my pocket. If I've spent all my cash, I'll just make more.
That is true wealth. Someone with 10bn is only rich until he or she spends it all. -
Quote:It's true because it's easy to build up cash on hand. I'm much more limited by my slots, the risk I'm willing to shoulder (not the same as how much I'm willing to invest), and my knowledge of how various items perform as investments.I had idly posted about someone doing something like this about 8 months back and was told the number of slots was way more important that having the inf on hand to start it up. But that was a "for profit" scheme, unlike this "for fun" one.
Quote:If for some reason another spot opens up I'll invest a mil. I could even help with the startup capital (your post above said about 200mil to get things rolling nicely). That way you can be up and running sooner for more captial gains for those investing the mil. And once the 200 mill is recouped we can settle and focus on the investments. I play on virtue nightly so meeting up shouldn't be a prob if interested. Even if a spot isn't open. I will front you the 200 mil to get things up and running faster. Just shoot me a tell ingame @labatttheblue or PM me
I know this sounds strange and arbitrary. It's because I'm doing this to satisfy my admittedly odd sense of fun.
I'm not currently accepting any more players but I'll keep you in mind in case someone drops out. -
All players have confirmed. They are:
1. DumpleBerry (@Thaneval)
2. Ruhe (@Ruhe) -- collected
3. MoonlyteShadow (@Moonlyte Shadow) -- collected
4. Hell_Jumper (@Helljumper) -- collected
5. Manny (@Manny CS) -- collected
6. Shawn_Sage (@Shawn Sage) -- collected
And I'll start collecting investments now. I'm in an unconvenient timezone, but for this week my schedule is much more flexible. I'll be around during 8pm-1am EST until Sunday, and I'll be idling in my base for most of Friday, so those times are most convenient, but you can talk to me anytime and I'll get back to you ASAP. If there's a different time that would be convenient for you, let me know.
Moonlyte, I know you mentioned you have Mondays off, but I'd like to get this started by next Monday's maintenance. Are you free anytime this week?
In fact, I'm about to log in right now. Let's see if any of you are around! -
Most of the people who responded said they wouldn't mind this being carried out on Virtue, so Virtue it was. Sorry Freedomites!
Yes, you are in.
I poked Hell Jumper and Manny with PMs. Once they reply, I can start collecting money.
I cannot believe I forgot this: Dumple and Shawn Sage, can you post or PM me your globals, please? I need to know who to harass for dividends and such. -
Since I don't go to Pocket D often I looked at my roster of characters instead and took two drinks in total.
Is this a good sign or an indication that I need to be less uptight? -
Very clever use of the mesh pattern + medieval tights to give the look of scale mail!
-
There are quite a few things I know I'd like, such as a more powerful costume creator and market UI, more well-written Task Forces, more Hamidon-style large scale raids, more base functionality, as well as a rebalancing of Merit costs - making the most desired items more expensive and everything else much less expensive, etc.
But there's really just one thing that would make me excited - as in, if I'd hypothetically left the game, I would come running back to resub and play happily ever after.
Thighhighs!
No, disco bottoms are not it. They're too long. I want to get my thighhighs-and-miniskirt look that no costume piece allows me to get right now.
