  1. Thanks. That build is much better than mine (same defense, more recharge/regen, cheaper to boot), although it abandons the goal of getting 90% DefDebuff resistance which I'm not sure I want to do. Playing an SR has made me pampered

I disagree. The last DXP was actually quite tame, in comparison to the one in January and especially in comparison to all the AE excitement. One interesting thing I did note was that on at least some of the items I kept an eye on, speculation prevented prices from rising significantly since people kept releasing hoarded stocks over the duration of the event.

I expect this one to be a relatively quiet affair, too, considering it comes so soon on the heels of the last one. I'm just going to play the market as normal and level up some new characters.
  3. Build goals are double-stacked AD, 95% hit chance against +4 enemies, must have SS for concept, softcapped everything and keep all defense bonuses when exemplared to 32. I will have a seperate build for pre-level 32 play. Attack chain is Scorch > Incinerate > Scorch > Cremate; I don't want to take any of the sword attacks except for FSC.

I'm pretty happy with this, although I really wish I could scrounge together 4 slots from somewhere to properly slot the resists in Deflection and Tough. I'm missing out on about 20% SL resistance, and that makes me sad.

    Thoughts?

  4. Nice! I need to run this taskforce again while this lasts.
  5. Laevateinn

    First ever!!!!

I could not find a source for this despite combing ParagonWiki and the forums, but 360 dps sounds about right based on dim memories of lurking the Scrapper forums. And very, very few builds are capable of even breaking the 300 dps barrier, -res debuffs or not. To the best of my knowledge no Scrapper build can, except perhaps ShredMonkey's DB/SR that we haven't figured out how to reproduce. So he's not far from the truth when he says that you need -Regen to solo a GM ("solo" as in no-insps no-temp powers style).
  6. The entire Mind Control set (and the clones of those powers used by enemies) ignores positional defense. Other psychic attacks are stopped by positional defense.
  7. The poster isn't talking about playing the market. They're talking about finding someone to play the market for them. That said, please don't stop eryq2: fewer marketeers means less competition for me.

I've been thinking about something like this for a long time. As others have said, I don't think any such arrangement can be lucrative for both you and the marketeer. Since returns on investment are completely off the chart in CoH, any marketeer can raise large amounts of funds themselves, which means they are better off reinvesting a few weeks' worth of profits rather than owning you a share of their income for the forseeable future.

Even if you were able to offer a sum of capital so large that it could not be easily raised, it wouldn't be very useful, since marketeers quickly reach a point where they are constrained by things other than the amount of capital at hand. I can do a lot with 100m that I can't do with 10m. There's nothing that I can do with 10bn that I can't do with 1bn. Transaction volume and market slots are limited and I only keep an eye on so many niches at a time.

So, I don't see how such an arrangement would be practical (although I would love to be proved wrong, since I'm really interested). At the very least, it wouldn't be of any practical benefit to the marketeer. You will probably have more luck finding a friend to help, if any of them dabble with the market, or find someone willing to do this for free as Fulmens said. I'm sorry to say my crackpottery is very well-sated at the moment.
  8. My video card died earlier this week. This means that while I can use the computer, I can't log into the game until I can find a replacement. It also means that I haven't been able to mess with the market much at all since Tuesday (and this is why I haven't been around to hand out dividends).

I will try to get a new one installed ASAP, which will probably be sometime during the next week. In any case, I'll extend the fund past Week 10 to make up for any lost time.

This logic works in reverse, too. 5 minutes for a piece of rare salvage isn't much, but 1000x 5 minutes is a month's playtime gone. If you can make 200m in 3 days, which is the better deal?

  11. Both procs do stack with each other; it's really noticeable in a high-recharge single target attack chain.
  12. Week 6 (Sept 21 to Sept 28)

    Liquid cash: 707,426,816
    Market bids: 147,190,116
Unsold goods: 295,200,000 (based on estimated sales price)

    Net asset value: 1,149,816,932

Dividends issued: 600m (100m per share)

More monies! Gimme a poke in game any time you want to collect it. Hell Jumper and Dumple still have uncollected $$$ from the last round (I keep track of this, so don't worry).

This has been a pretty good week. Overall, prices are up and transaction volume is down. Since my slot utilization is pretty low right now, I added a niche to each active marketeer I have.

Recipe supply is noticeably very low. This opens up lots of opportunities for price gouging, but it's annoying when I can't buy enough stuff to replace sold goods, and there is a lot of competition while bidding.

Salvage is essentially free now. Last issue, I had to bid seperately for the recipe and the salvage, but now I only bother bidding on rare salvage. This saves me an extra 2-3 market slots.

I'm still going to be thinking of ways to maximize profit, but if I can come up with 600m for dividends every two weeks, I'll be content.

There's four more weeks left before I shut things down and liquidate everything, so that's two more rounds of dividends + your share of the capital.
  13. It fires in PvE too.

And I agree, it's horrendously inefficient if you're looking at it from a cost-effectiveness perspective.
  14. Occasionally I feel like trying out some other MMO, then I run into something like this that reminds me how much we take for granted here.

In CoH, for example, botting is next to nonexistent. Where I live (Malaysia), Western MMOs are less popular, and everyone plays horrible grindy games made locally or from China/Korea. In such games it's very common to see more bots than live players. For many years I wouldn't play an MMO due to this impression, because paying to spend effort doing something an automated program can do better than I can insults my intelligence. CoH was the game that convinced me to try out an MMO.

Shields is very playable on the cheap. My BS/SD, with all SOs except the Steadfast unique, does fine, and I'm now levelling an SO-only Fire/SD. It's usually said that Shields performs excellently with a big budget, but that doesn't mean it's playable only by the wealthy.

    Here are my "rules"

    - The build needs to be as inexpensive as possible. No purple sets, no blessing of zephyr knock back (specifically), no expensive uniques (I have the two healing ones already)
    - Have soft capped defense
    - Have plenty of AoE attacks
    - AV soloing, RWZ challenge, etc... are not considered.

This seems like a pretty good build to me, but I have seen a lot of little suggestions here and there that may add a little more health, recovery, etc...
How much do you have to spend? ToD, Obliterations and Basilisk's Gaze may be too expensive for you depending on your budget. When softcapping on a budget, remember that ranged and AoE defense are both cheap and trivial to get. Melee defense will be expensive and non-trivial to get. Find a way to get melee defense affordably and your problems are 90% solved.

I would take 1 slot from Chain Induction and use it to 6-slot Red Fortune in deflection instead. You can then 5-slot CI with Crushing Impact. This nets you 5% more recharge, and you are still softcapped.

Your True Grit is badly underslotted (you really want to get as much as you can out of the +HP it gives). I think Stamina is also slightly overslotted, if you are not going to get all 6 slots of Performance Shifter for the set bonus.

Gaussian's Rech/End will be difficult to find because it's a Pool C recipe. You might want to put up a bid for it ASAP (market availability is a bigger problem than price here).

Here's my revision of your build. More recharge and HP, slightly less recovery.

I forgot most of the numbers, and they differ by AT since it's affected by AT modifiers, but I think it worked out to +17% regen on Tankers. That's decent, I think, when you consider it also gives end. It also breaks sleep when it fires, which is hilarious.
  18. Week 5 (14 Sept to 21 Sept)

    Liquid cash: 229,116,032
    Market bids: 139,807,395
    Unsold goods: 288,001,230

    Net asset value: 656,924,657

Ths above figure doesn't include 300m in uncollected dividends (Ruhe, Hell Jumper and Dumpleberry, you need to poke me if you see me around).

Weekly earnings were just over 250m, which I consider "normal", but the character I'm using for this is working one of the most profitable items I know of. Previously I needed two characters' slots to tap it fully, now I've consolidated production on one.

I already have some thoughts on how i16 is going to play out, but it's still too soon to be sure of anything.
  19. The heal and +End check (and fire) seperately. It's like two procs in one.

This surprises me. In my experience, people who are bossy and try to run the team when they're not qualified to are bossy at any level, exemplared or not.
  21. Fraulein Sieg, my fire/dark, is an ex-5th Column superwoman wielding hellfire and darkness. As part of her concept, she has to be really tough, so I'm taking the Fighting pool and her IO build will include a large amount of ranged defense.

What I can't decide is how much ranged defense to get:

    ...45%? But this would require very heavy concessions from other build goals, as well as render all the ToHitDebuff in /Dark redundant;

    ...39%? Accounting for AV debuff resistance, softcapped against an even-con AV with both Fearsome Stare and Darkest Night applied. Not that I plan to solo AVs, but it's something to consider;

    ...33%? Softcapped with either one small purple inspiration, or one application of either Fearsome Stare/Darkest Night against a +4 enemy. Even without either of those, it's still enough to defuse the alpha from most spawns;

...Some other number? Is there something I'm missing? Is my math horribly wrong? Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Platinum (which was the most expensive rare salvage in the pre-i13 era) has surged to around 4m blueside. It'll be interesting to see if it stays that high for long.
  23. Actually, my first thought is to ask why you are slotting sets that give primarily positional defense on a typed defense secondary. A good slotting for Abalating Strike is, as stated above, 5 Crushing Impacts + an Achiles Heel proc (if you want recharge), or 4 Kinetic Combats/Smashing Haymaker + whatever you need to get the damage, accuracy and recharge up to satisfactory levels (if you want defense).

Assuming you use Blinding Feint > Attack Vitals combo a lot, the set with the higher recharge should go in Vengeful Strike since it has a higher recharge requirement (I don't have the exact numbers on hand, but someone will probably show up with them soon) in order to run the chain gapless. That said, Vengeful Strike is really a very poor attack due to the long animation, so if you mix up your attacks and running a gapless ST attack chain isn't all that important, I would put the set with higher recharge in Abalating Strike.
