On the contrary, some common/uncommon salvage is very slightly up (trans. I can't buy them for 123 inf any more) and none of the rare salvage I monitor has fell in price. I was interested in seeing if rares would crash like they did last year, but they apparently aren't going to.
  2. I tried Vanguard, +4/x8, and couldn't do it. Once one guy landed a hit, I would die within seconds. Their long aggro range also made it very tricky to pick them off one at a time.

I am pretty sure I can handle +4/x8 of any enemy group but them and Rularuu.

    Configure attribute monitor
Go to the RWZ Icon to adjust my costume (invariably something which I was happy with in the costume creator will look less stellar in the game)

The funny thing is, late in the AE era when salvage prices were high, there was incessant whining about it. The fact that it was very easy for a lowbie to make cash in those days was never mentioned, and there were a few alarmist prophets of doom going about saying how inflation would kill the game and it was impossible to afford anything.

    Nope.

You will not break even at 500k; crafting fee is 460k and the recipe is anywhere from 80k to 120k. You also spend a market slot and time waiting for the crafted enhancement to sell. Generally, unless you have the recipe memorized (and in that case, why are you not vendoring the recipe?), you will not beat dedicated crafters at common IOs.

use the Merits to buy the most expensive Set Recipes (usually Numina's Convalescent) and craft them and sell them on the market.
Numina's is a poor choice since it costs 250 Merits and only sells for ~70m crafted. LotG 7.5 costs only 200 Merits and sells for nearly 100m crafted.

On the other hand, the average player's income is much higher now, because stuff sells for more on the market, they earn Merits as well as inf and 4XP settings allow for extremely efficient farming. Whether purples ever got "more expensive" (as in they started taking significantly longer to earn) is questionable.

  9. Defenders and Controllers tend to be praised beyond what they deserve, and in turn come to take it for granted. Think of this as a learning opportunity, and try to appreciate the contributions of other players, too.
  10. The closest I've seen Crey portrayed in a positive light is actually redside. Near the Crey building in Nerva you can see Crey public relations officers speaking to reporters, and when you attack them they tell the civilians to get to safety.
  11. Business as usual.

Heh, this brings back memories. I remember last year I hoarded up lots of costume salvage with plans to sell it later on when prices had rose, and I made my first profits with the market, flipping scientific theories. Time flies.
  12. In this game, there's very little PvE content that's exclusive to level 50s, but the twist is that (while in a group) you can do content far below your level while getting full rewards.

There is gear in the Invention system, which gives you lots of ways to improve your character. The nice thing is that almost no two characters are exactly identical, since there is a lot of room for customization in a build, your character's appearance isn't tied to your gear. For those who are interested with tinkering with characters but not endless grinding, you can make money by playing the market instead. Buying a top-of-the-line build will probably take several months, so there's a lot to occupy yourself with.

Raids are not a major part of this game. Instead, a lot of max-level players repeat Task/Strike forces, which are basically a string of PvE missions that usually have an Archvillain/Hero at the end. They award Reward Merits, which you can use to buy some of the most valuable enhancements in the game.

So, I wouldn't say this game is all about alts (far from it, actually), and I think the gear, loot and market systems are better than most MMOs out there. Give it a try.

Lol, we've got loads of instanced content, and our starter zones are STILL fairly visibly busy.

    Eco.
Atlas is a bit different, though, as it's the place where everyone hangs out, even before AE. Mercy is a more typical starter zone.
  14. They don't cost endurance and can't be suppressed or detoggled
    They add DDR
    They add scaling resists
They are good mules for defense set IOs (I know you already have 5 LotG 7.5s in your build; this doesn't change the fact that they are really convenient places to put those)
~8.5 defense when fully slotted is really hard to ignore

I can't say they are unskippable. I suppose you can skip them, if you have enough money and power choices to throw at the problem and are willing to suffer the lower DDR and scaling resists, neither which is likely to make or break a build on its own. For what it's worth, I don't think 73% vs 95% DDR will make a large difference except against very heavy defense debuffing foes (Antimatter robots, Cimerorans et al). I will say that you really need to be 100% sure of what you are doing and that it is extremely unlikely that skipping them will make your build better in any way.

[edit] Originally I had a note here complaining about your endurance consumption in the build without passives. Then I realized your SS was toggled on. I still think it is a bit high, and that you are almost certainly better off skipping Tough/Weave instead for the passives.
  15. No. Coincidentally I ran out of slots, so I couldn't place any bids

Week 11 will be the last week, and by that Monday I'll have cancelled all bids and liquidated all assets.

  17. Week 9 (Oct 12 to Oct 19)

    Liquid cash: 747,228,672
    Market bids: 0
    Unsold goods: 460,800,000

    Net asset value: 1,208,028,672

Dividends issued: 600m (100m per share)

You know the drill Poke me, get cash

Rare salvage rose moderately after DXP. On the bright side, DXP cleared out a lot of the supply glut and stocks on most IOs are now back to a more healthily low number. There was the usual post-DXP silliness, including recipes selling for more than the crafted enhancement on some items. Other than that it has been a fairly normal week.

The Halloween event starts soon! I remember last year's event caused a huge crash in rare salvage prices, but I can't remember what the cause was, if anything.
  18. You are right. I'm not sure how the 265% figure got lodged in my head.
  19. Out of curiosity, why Jab and not Punch, since the build already has boxing, AS and brawl? There's no shortage of fast-recharging melee attacks there.

I'll just point out one or two things that I think address some of your questions. Illusion is genrally stronger than Mind, and considering Empathy's a good small-team (or pet!) buffing set with no special synergy with Mind, I think it's largely a given that Ill/Emp would be a substantial improvement. OTOH, though I realize Illusion pets throw torrent now and again, which puts a little AoE in Illusion, but I doubt that's significantly better than damage-optimized Terrify (which is itself not exactly a feast of AoE damage.) Neither set has meaningful AoE damage-- certainly nothing on par with Fire and Plant.

Last, I think you'd have some adjusting to do in terms of going from MC & TD to PA, Flash, Spectral Terror. I don't think one of those two is head-and-shoulders above the other, but they'll play quite differently, even if they're not far apart in effective mitigation.
Thanks. You answered a lot of things that i wanted to ask, but didn't get across so clearly, I think.

I'm not unhappy with the character; on the contrary, I've had her for a very long time and still enjoy her. It's a matter of illusion being more appealing rather than Mind being unappealing. It think Ill/ would perform better against enemies with mez protection (AE customs, mostly), solo better, be a lot more survivable and output a lot more damage. And if it can do all that with comparable control, I may be tempted to switch.

I expect to be picking off things with holds and confuses even with PA around, but a primary that is less dependent on having my full attention would be nice, yes.
  21. Pool Cs (which were formerly Task Force and then later Merit-only rewards) now have a small chance of dropping from boss kills.
  22. Congrats.

As for the red icon, isn't that the version of Geas of the Kind Ones from the icon fix pack?
  23. Thanks for all your input. I'm kind of limited by concept - only Mind and Illusion work as primaries, only Emp works as a secondary and the only APPs that make sense for the character are Psi and Power. And I like playing Emp, too.

I will probably end up rerolling into Illusion in the end, although I'm pretty burnt out on levelling characters now.
