    ReCrabilitation.

Here's my current planned build for Stygian. I only went for two purple sets anyways, and I'm sure that others could improve upon what I've done here. Only have Call Reinforcements, and even then only for assistance when they're needed. I don't have them out all the time.

    ReCrabilitation.

Stygian Variolus has a heavy team support build. Doubled maneuvers, doubled assault, heavy focus on AoE attacks, no melee other than Brawl and a few temporary powers. Of course, she also went blueside before level 40 and thus has no patron pools...not that she needs them since the planned build is softcapped in normal content without accounting for team buffs. Weave, Hover, Combat Jumping and doubled maneuvers alone is damn potent, and adding in IO's you can get even better.

Styg only has a couple of her planned sets and is already softcapped to everything except Psi, and she's only .5% away from that...without Armageddon yet.

Obvious counterpoint: So just make a generic chainsaw weapon model and have the character hold it like a sword or attach a different handle to it so that it can be held like a sword, then call it a 'Modified Chainsaw.' and there goes any chance of legal repercussions.

It's not a chainsword, it's a chainsaw HELD like a sword and clearly still has a regular chainsaw motor on it. If a basic shovel can be both a mace and an axe, why can't a chainsaw be put under swords if it's still obviously a normal chainsaw?

I mean, if that alone were enough for a claim of copyright infringement then I'm obviously completely unclear on just how broad the definition of a 'ConflictMace' chainsword is, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they wouldn't have a leg to stand on since the model in-game would be nothing like their concepts, figures, drawings, sketches, technical specifications, etcetera.
  4. Here's hoping for a change to the LGTF Hami-power eventually. I normally have no problem whatsoever playing this game, but that power makes me feel like my eyes are bleeding.

I have a brother so prone to epileptic fits that he can't even be in the same room as a person playing anything other than a handheld game, so I have more than a little concern for the people that are having issues with certain powers.

And anyone actively arguing against changes that benefit others without actually sacrificing anything can try skydiving without a parachute. I hear it's the ultimate high.

  6. How will this interfere/interface with STEAM?

I have been asking this since this was announced.

    4. Reward Merits
    5. Hero/Villain Merits
    6. Incarnate Shards
    7. Incarnate Threads

SEVEN different forms of stuff to trade in for other stuff. Are the developers even paying attention? This game IS turning into a grindfest, with each new Issue.
So much for the "casual" gameplay philosophy.
Okay folks, you NEED to stop thinking of everything in terms of how many SHARDS it takes.

A common alpha does NOT cost twelve shards, it takes three components which can be made with 12 shards if you can't be arsed to do the TF's that will simply get you the components you need directly. Everything but the Penumbra of Rularuu and Gr'ai Matter can be gotten via TF reward table. Play the TF's that will hand you the exact components you need and all of a sudden your 'shard cost' goes down drastically.

32 shards to upgrade a Notice to a Favor.
8 shards for each Common to Uncommon upgrade

One only NEEDS a grand total of 56 shards to make a Very Rare Alpha.

Yes, you read that right. 56 Shards if you aim specifically for the TF's or other task that will hand you the components you need instead of crafting from shards.

Add an extra 16 as a buffer zone for people that refuse to do the CoP or rely on the random Gr'ai Matter drop, so MAYBE 72 for them.

And yes, that 56 accounts for the two common to Uncommon upgrades needed for Uncommon tier Alphas as well as the 32 to upgrade two NotW to FotW and one Uncommon component for the V-rare.

All you people that are grinding away and complaining that it takes a hundred shards to make a very rare:

    You. Are. Doing. It. WRONG!

overall good job on new issue i just wish there was something for bases.

2 I like the two new task forces great idea, but im wondering any new content for praetoria lvl 20-40 besides task forces. Im guessing u can run the task force every night if u really want but theres more story in running arcs.

3 any plan for Epic arctype for praetorians?
League is a general term for people that are cooperating with each other and is unable to be copyrighted by itself, or trademarked.

This is also the reason why so many Transformers figures with 'classic' or 'G1' counterparts have the faction they are on as part of their toy name these days: Hasbro can no longer Trademark common words like Jazz, Ravage, Frenzy, Rumble, Hot Rod, etc...

Paragon is not going to be sued by calling a huge group of players participating in one event a league, no matter the muscle behind the new 'competitor' because it is a common word in the English language and has uses beyond the scope of 'The Justice League of America' or whatever pretentious crap DC is foisting on people these days.
  8. You know, I am forced to wonder just how I've been playing the game so wrong. I have seen people call for healers, but they're usually perfectly willing to accept anything that buffs or debuffs.

Heck, one time I logged in on Virtue, saw an ITF calling for buffs with room for two, and asked if they could use a Crab. Instant invite. I wonder why that happened? I mean, if +defense, +tohit, and +damage doesn't outweigh +hp... MY crab is even built along a team buff theory with double maneuvers and assault, as well as Hover, Weave, and Combat Jumping. She constantly has 43%+ defense to all positions and Psi WITHOUT a completed set build yet.

Heck, in the i20 sneak peek my crab was able to 'tank' an entire spawn of level 54 warworks/clockwork while taking them out with a crippling combination of Venom Grenade, Omega Maneuver, Frag Grenade, Supression, and then ST attacks with support from Call Reinforcements on whatever was left while waiting for VG to finish recharging. I didn't even have to pop Serum.

So, anyone care to explain why VEAT's are so widely accepted whenever a team needs anything if 'heelarz' are so much better than anything else the game has to offer? Magicj, do you have an explanation for this? Surely a VEAT's team buffs are less desirable than a 'heelar' when all a VEAT does is stuff that other AT's do better? They don't innately tank as well as a tanker, they can't damage as much as a Blaster, even a Fortunata can't control as well as controllers and doms can, so why do they work so well in any kind of team?

Surely it's not the buffs, since those don't include any kind of non-self heal!

    /sarcasm

Using power analyzer I saw that the boss had only 2 KB resist, but it was from "Integration", and I guess the power normally that also grants the 1000% resistance. So what you just said would explain it. No matter how much I enhance my Force Bolt, it will always be flagged as "resistable" and therefore incapable of pushing those guys down I guess.
Destroyer bosses tend to resist every control you throw at them, solo. Teams can SOMETIMES control a destroyer boss, but in general a Big Dog is effectively immune to any and all basic controls in the game, especially softer controls like Slow, Sleep, and the Knock effects.

They are basically Brutes with better status protection at lower levels.

It's wording like this that confuses people.

The Alpha Slot is NOT a global enhancement. Global enhancements are mostly from set bonuses.

The Alpha Slot is a Global PER-POWER RESTRICTIONS Enhancement. It buffs every power that can be buffed by its effects via normal slotting. People keep calling it a global enhancement when it does not actually function as such.
  11. Zero Punctuation's review this week was the newest Direct Competitor to City of Heroes...

    In Yahtzee's own words:

Once your investor has been talked off the ledge and you've made him understand that it's a superhero 'mumorpegger' and totally different then his next obvious question would be 'Is it better than City of Heroes?' In this race Detective Comics Universe Online trips at the first hurdle and knocks out a tooth on a hardenned cowpat.

Yahtzee, a man who does not like MMO's in general, LIKES CITY OF HEROES!

Better than that, he recommends it over the newest game on the block, free advertising!

    Watch it yourself here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/vide...niverse-Online
  12. Shards are not the new currency of the game. The new currency of the game is incarnate Components/Salvage...of which shards are but ONE piece.

Shards drop from every level 50+ enemy an Incarnate fights, but shards are not the only thing an Incarnate needs. Some short-sighted people seem to THINK that Shards are the most important part of the new system when they are, in fact, the least. An Incarnate needs a GRAND TOTAL of only 48 shards to make a Very Rare boost. That's 32 shards to upgrade two notice of the well into a Favor of the Well, and 16 to upgrade two common salvage into Uncommon salvage for the Uncommon boost. That's it, no more and no less than 48 shards are NEEDED.

Every component can be gained without using a single shard except to upgrade a component into a better one. MOST Incarnates will need 52 shards total to avoid having to run a Cathedral of Pain for the Penumbra of Rularuu, but that doesn't negate the simple FACT that every component barring ones that can only be obtained by upgrading can be gotten from existing content without spending a single shard.

Shards are basic lego bricks, the other components are the special pieces used to make a unique design. Shards play a bit part in Incarnate Advancement, the main actors are the OTHER components.

Also, it's far more efficient for an intelligent player to run the TF's that will give them the Incarnate Salvage they need than to grind the LGTF/ITF for 'moar sharddddzzzzz' but nobody seems to see that. Run a speed STF, ITF, and Khan, and you have the components for a Nerve Boost as well as some spare shards. Run the TF's that give you the salvage you need and you won't have to waste shards making salvage when you can instead save shards for upgrading your Notices.

The WST was proposed/advertised as a way to get Notice’s of the Well. That is strictly an incarnate system reason.

To get shards you have to defeat level 50 opponents. Doing lower level TF’s is just NOT efficient use of MY level 50’s time. Especially if he already has the TF.

Nobody who has commented knows why a lower level TF was picked as a “Target”.
I only address Avatea with the subject, is because she/he is the one that posted it. It matters NOT who does, only that it is inefficient and therefore poorly thought out for the above reasons.

Double experience, influence and merits seems to be incentive for people who have NOT done the incarnate system to help the level 50’s who have…not the other way around as many of you seem to think.

Do you realize that if you have not unlocked the incarnate doing the WST actually prevents you from getting a “Notice” until the next week’s target? So a level 49 doing the WST and making 50 has to wait another week..To get a “Notice”. So the double experience is actually a “Problem”, at least for him.

I would not mind doing a lower level TF – if it was boosted to 50 for the week it was the target.
What constitutes a good use of YOUR level 50's time and anyone else level 50's time is completely different.

My Incarnate is an actual hero, and thus takes any opportunity to fight against those that would undermine the stability of Paragon City. Sure she might not have a huge stockpile of 'lolzmygodimportantstuffincarnateshardzzzzzzzzzzzz zzz' as another Incarnate, but she also doesn't NEED a titanic stockpile because she knows how to get the components she needs without using them unless it's needed for a conversion.

To get a Very Rare you need 32 shards to fuse two Notice of the Well components into a Favor of the well. This means that an incarnate NEEDS a grand total of 48 shards to get one Very Rare tier alpha boost, that's it. 32 shards for the Favor, and 16 shards to upgrade two common components into Uncommon components for the uncommon boosts needed to upgrade into rares.

48 shards is chump change for someone who's been running all the level 50 TF's for their incarnate component reward option at the end. If said incarnate is intelligent and saves the shards by actually running something other than a LGTF or ITF so they can get something other than the ancient nictus fragment and hero 1 DNA sample reward options.

Run something other than your precious ITF once in a while. Other TFs do exist and do give incarnate rewards. Stygian Variolus got 8 shards or so on an STF last night, in addition to the bonus merits and notice of the well. I even took the doubled merit reward option because I had no use for an Essence of the Incarnate at the time!

Again not the point...the choice of the TF is messy. It doesn't seem to fit the scheme of incarnate system or its purpose.

Maybe I'm just not understanding the developer's reasons...

Incarnate is an excellent reason to dust off the old 50's, using a lower level TF doesn't make sense.
Fixed a few typos and cleaned up some easily misread statements to what I think is your original intent...

That being said, your logic is flawed. Our Incarnates are Slow Growers, we will mature into our incarnate abilities slowly because of the way the Well is allowing us to advance. Forcing Incarnates to do a TF that strips their newfound powers from them IS a good idea, as it provides the observant Well with an insight into the character that willingly sacrifices this new toy for a while to help those with less power when they need it.

The developers are far from stupid, and the implementation has roots in mythology for supernatural beings taking note of someone they have marked doing something extraordinary while held back from their usual full power.

If nothing else, think of it as the Well noticing that while you can do an excellent job of stopping crime, your incarnate is still willing to take their time and rescue that stranded kitten or help the old lady cross the street despite the fact that such minor things do not earn you anywhere near the same fame and glory as curbstomping some silly Roman guy for the umpteen-millionth time.

The Well notices our power when we're not even using all of it?

To top it off, folks that have been doing the WSF will be unlocking their very rare alpha tier with Sister Psyche or Silver Mantis. Just doesn't seem right...
Actually, it is perfectly right and thematic for the superhero comic genre for something like this to happen. Think about it for a second. You're denied access to the best of your powers as a player and as a character. In game system terms it's purely systematic to ensure that the TF isn't too easy even with the new exemplaring rules.

In terms of your CHARACTER, however, things are quite different. Your character has just begun tapping into his highest potential, and is still eager to explore that new potential. An opportunity comes along to do something HUGE and it's that much easier for your character now. Then, your character WILLINGLY enters a situation where they cannot use their newest ability, sacrificing their ability to outperform the average superhero in order to help wipe out a problem that should really be beneath their notice...

A character who willingly restricts their abilities to a lesser level than they usually perform in order to render aid to someone that they could easily simply ignore while staying superior in their own mind? A character that has only recently begun to tap into that new potential?

The well knows your character the second you begin walking the path of the Incarnate. As you begin drawing more power through your connection to the well, the well takes more notice of you. To then sacrifice that power temporarily, to temporarily and voluntarily stop using what the well has granted you to help someone resolve a situation that SHOULD be beneath you and thus not even worth your time? That gets the attention of a supernatural entity.

Look at it from the well's perspective: "You set aside the extra abilities I've given you to help her with that small problem? You're more interesting than I thought." (Favor of the Well granted.)

To put it another way: Two known fencers of disparate skill decide to have a friendly match. In order to make things interesting, the more skilled fencer decides to handicap himself by only using his off-hand. Even with this handicap, he manages to beat the other fencer, earning the applause of the audience for overcoming an opponent in an honorable fashion after ensuring that the fight would be interesting for everyone involved. The well is the audience, and your character is the more skilled fencer.

    Apex + Traps =

By the way, I take full blame for this rant. Judging from the timing of the initial post, this was someone that was on an Apex I was leading on Virtue as Stygian Variolus.

I'll be frank, I don't normally bother looking for an optimal party composition when running anything. We happened to get a Traps, a Cold, and a Sonic on random characters in addition to my Crab being built as a party-buffing ranged tank with her doubling of Maneuvers and Assault...but for some reason Styg was getting killed with distressing frequency compared to a run that was done just the day before the most recent patch to live.

I had set a 1 hour timer, knowing that we had some good debuffs on the team, but we finished the first mission with only 9 minutes left and one person AFK on a bio break after an alarmingly large number of deaths and near-wipes on the first mission alone.

If I remember correctly we had a blaster, two corrs, a controller, two scrappers, a brute and my Crab. BM should have been a cakewalk, but Murphy's Law was against us.
  16. I feel dirty for laughing at this.
  17. Considering I got a yearly resub back in December with some birthday money that was given a little early (Dec. 4 1982!) I can safely say that I am going to LOVE this. No chance of interruption and free costume pieces for all!

If only the Vanguard had a cape to go with the rest of it...

    Wait...is that....

High quality animal head! YES! Die you filthy mongrels that were claiming they'd be so crass as to make each animal pack a separate purchase and we'd only be getting the bird head and legs!

Proliferation is only for things that already exist.

Your staff concept does not exist, and never will. Castle and BAB have gone on record many times in stating that the only thing harder than rigging up a staff/spear set of nine powers in the game would be making an actual whip melee set...and since the three ENERGY whip attacks from Demon Summoning took as long to animate as a full set of nine normal powers I have only two words for you.

    FAT CHANCE.

    beta server?

So they must have been using the second server that's been grayed out forever to do it during the i19 beta. I mean, that's the only way they've been testing it constantly since then.

Yeah, I was in the i19 beta, and loved the experience, but it did kinda rankle me to know that a second 'elite' group of testers was working on other stuff at the same time.

Dude, the horse is dead already. We get it, you HATE tankers the way they are right now, which is balanced towards survivability more than offense, the Stone Wall (sometimes literally) to the Brute's Mighty Glacier and the Scrapper's more Lightning Bruiser style.

We already understand that you have no concept of balance, or how to play a tank properly. Your join date doesn't matter, your prior experience in the game doesn't matter, you want the developers to make the tanker the strongest melee AT in both offense and defense despite the fact that this would kill all semblance of balance in the game when tankers are already QUITE capable of performing as they were intended.

Yes, there are some builds for the other two non-stalker melee AT's that can reach Tanker levels of protection in defense, and for Brutes Resistance. Those are what are called Outliers, builds that go beyond what the developers expected and intended for people to do with the given tools.

I mean, Christ, I haven't even been active on the forums for two years yet and I'm already sick of hearing this. Every time I see your username I know the thread's going to be hit with a post complaining about how tankers aren't 'real' tanks despite the fact that they do the job their name implies better than any other AT in the game.

I have a crab build that has positional defenses either capped or almost there at all times without outside buffs. Oh no, a range-biased character with positional softcaps!

    Balnse iz teh runed!

Except...crabs have no Defense Debuff Resistance, so they are heavily vulnerable to Cascading Defense Failure...just like every non-melee AT that builds up a significant amount of +def bonuses from powers or set bonuses.

And yes, I DO have a tank myself. Shocking thing is that the only thing I dislike about her is that I wish BAB had managed to figure out how to alter Granite so that Stone Armor was completely customizable.

That's because I understand how Party Roles and Group Dynamics WORK. Blasters nuke, Scrappers shred, Defenders buff, Controllers mez, Kheldians suck*, and Tankers take one for the team.

Of course, you're obviously confused by this perfectly sound logic because you THINK that Tankers were named after tanks, as in the military weapon, when in all reality they were named for their ROLE as damage sponges.

Perhaps if the developers had used that logic and named them after something used by the military to force the enemy to waste attacks on something that isn't going to be damaged easily rather than something known outside the MMO community as a major source of damage, you'd think differently.

The only problem is, 'Decoy' doesn't sound very heroic.

*I'll gladly invite one if asked and there's room, but I just don't like playing as them.
  20. Possible: yes.
    Easy? NO.

Main strategy: Load up on reds, spam attacks eating three reds at a time.
  21. I'm not exactly a hardcore player, but even I think Apex is easy enough. The ONLY challenge, really, is learning to time things properly.

For example, even after the warning shows up, a Crab can get off Supression before moving and still get clear of the blast zone, even with Hover.

Quite literally the ONLY people at a GAME-enforced disadvantage are non-teleporting Stone Tankers who enjoy Granite too much simply because they refuse to build well enough to survive without it. Even then that's a SMALL subset of a specific AT and powerset combination.

    Is This Legit?

It is indeed legit and unless you're in the middle of something that shouldn't be interrupted you should hit yes to submit a report about it as this is usually indicative of a MAJOR error somewhere in the code and every report on something that threatens to cause a hard crash allows the devs to get closer to pinpointing the source of the problem.

I do believe that the intent behind his insultingly-worded phrase was to point out that anyone that burns two respecs to pull two SINGLE enhancements from a character is doing it wrong. That means you were foolish enough to perform the respec with a full or near-full tray of other enhancements that were also kept.

There is nothing WRONG with that accurate assessment of ineptitude as it was never stated if said multiple respecs were for more than one build, therefore the assumption is that two respecs were used on a single build, which is what gives the accurate impression of utter foolishness on the part of the person wasting respecs.

Were it specified that said pair of respecs ran across multiple builds, well, that's the way the system works normally, so the complaint is inherently invalid to begin with.

Either way, attacking him for pointing out the blatant foolishness in burning two respecs to pull two single enhancements is little more than trolling as you are in the wrong for complaining about your own ineptitude to begin with.

The proc states +10% Endurance, 20% chance.

    Base Endurance is 100

    10% of 100 = 10

Obviously if you have power/accolades that boost max endurance, the proc will NUMERICALLY do more for you, but still only recovers 10% endurance.

Since it's pretty much impossible to have more than 120 endurance though....the extra doesn't amount to much other than an average boosted end recovery of .2 E/sec
