Not really. Defiance works on something you have to activate - an attack. This will be there whether you're active, stunned, held, slept or whatever.

That's exactly what I meant by in reverse - the Multorn Host go through the process of turning into symbiotic Gravid Cell-Seeds once they've absorbed sufficient mana, which is what creates the 'scum patches' under the Scaffold that all the noobs complain about, but the Mancusan attendants of a of a first-stage Multorn are what do the harvesting of mana so that the Chrysalis can develop. That's why they hit so hard. Put very basically, it's like the relationship between drones and a queen.

Yes, there IS a connection, but it's not the obvious one. Think Gravid Cell-Seed, like in the early levels, but in reverse.
