The build is mainly for ranged combat. I'm not planning on going into melee, thus the only melee power is Fire Sword Circle.
[/ QUOTE ]
Might I ask why?
[/ QUOTE ]
Why what? Why ranged?
Because I like my Blaster to be ranged and not crushed to death in meleeAnd I've played so many melee toons that I want some ranged now.

I should warn you that you may find yourself struggling to get best effectiveness out of the FIRE/FIRE/FIRE combo if you are looking at mainly ranged combat. A fair bit of its damage is delivered at close range or in melee.
Of the early ranged powers, most don't take Flares as its generally poor damage. This pretty much leaves you with Fire Blast and Fire Ball. Fire Breath is so short ranged you are near as dammit in mellee range for any aggro it gets and Ring of Fire is just a hold that has a small damage element.
Later on you get Blaze and Blazing Bolt but I gather that the first, while great damage, is not much better range than Fire Breath and the last one, which is your snipe, you seem to have left to the end of the build which seems odd if you are looking for a range specialist.
Rain of Fire sounds great on paper and has great animation but taken at level 6 I found it gets you more aggro that you can handle at that level. Also, many teams hate it in the early game as most 'trollers and tankers don't have the ability to lock down that many mobs at that point. I have respecced it out till much later when I hope to combine it with the slow factor of Hot Feet.
I am not saying you should not go for the build, heck I have one myself, also, I solo a lot, which makes life harder for me that it needs to be. Just be advised that it can be a struggle to play and is NOT very solo friendly due to the amount of aggro it can get you.
Just my couple of infs worth there, feel free to ignore it at your leisure. Whatever you do tho, have FUN! -
Now, thanks to a very helpful fellow forumite, I have all of my alts in my own private little SG. Its purely being done as a RP/concept thing and as I slowly level up my alts I will be expanding the base to match.
This being the case, I have no plans to invite others into the group anytime soon and so it effectively IS my own little "Bat Cave" with my own private storage space for my alts which no-one else can touch.
It may seem selfish to some but the way I look at it is, once I have built most of my alts up to 50 or at least the mid 40s, which will take a LOONG time, I will open it out to other new players who can benefit early from a totally tricked out base.
I admit that a small base like this is not quite the "apartment" that you are after but it shows that it is possible in game to at least have your own "space". Also, I am finding it very satisfying to create the base, get the look and feel right etc.
Finally, I am finding it fun to have some new goals for my main character, as well as looking for the next level, by planning out my base slowly I am also building toward my next presige target in order to add the next bit to the base. -
So, unless you upgrade your plot size from the basic one you are given when you start the base you don't pay rent, even for the equipment?
-
Hi folks, I recently started my own little base for my alts on Union. I know they have just reduced base rent by a fair bit but I don't know how much I will need to pay on my little cave. I need to know so that i don't overspend on my prestige when expanding.
I currently have the entrance room and the oversight centre as my only rooms. I have the smallest control/energy device, one set of salvage storage and a basic forge. Anyone give me a pointer on how much rent I will be looking at paying on this?
Any guideance is greatly appreciated. -
Check out the Inventions Folder and the thread entitled Hero Builder in there. I read ait earlier today and having followed up on it was blown away.
A guy named Midnights has put together a builder that does everything Sherksilvers did and a whole hell of a lot more. It looks better, is more intuitive to work with and best of all it has pretty much full details of IOs including the various bonuses of each of the sets as well as the main enhancements.
That bulder is the Bees Knees, the Ants Ankles and the Dogs extremely personal bits if you know what I mean. Sherk was good but Midnights builder is the future for years to come in this game. -
To get back to the OP, the thing that I find most incredible about Spectral Terror is that it is pretty much perma WITHOUT hasten. Its recharge and duration are both around 40 or 45 secs, cant recall exactly which.
I use mine to get a spawn all shivery shakey then use Flash to blind em all. ( If I try it other way around, I get aggro while Flash is triggering since its so slow.) Once they are all blind they are subject to the damage bonus from containment and the Phantom Army and the Phantasm make light work of them.
With Blind or Deceive I can usually keep control of any that manage to slip through the effects of the first two. Even tho I am a "squishie" I can even lay into the mobs with a good old dose of "scrapperitis" by using Sands of Mu.
In short, 'trollers rock! -
Well I have just started my own SG on union and got one of the Forumites to help me move all my alts into it.
All of them WERE in an exisiting SG with a great, well equipped TECH style base which had everything one could need. So, why did I leave that SG to start my own? Basically for background story and RP reasons.
All of my alts have detailed bios and back stories. Four of them in particular are all supposed to be part of the same team. I just felt that they should have a base of their own to fit with their concept and so have decided to make it.
I have no intention any time soon of recruiting other players so the baseis going to advance VERY slowly but that does not bother me. If I wanted all the functionality I would have stayed in the old SG. I just want my heroes to have a place or even a base they can call their own. -
On a related note, I have recently moved all my alts out of the SG I have been with for a while as I have started my own. Its just a small group, mainly a backstory/RP thing for my own alts rather than functinal just now. It will build up slowly over time.
My old SG base was all techy, my own is gonna be arcane. I presume the arcane TP pads are portal type things?
Also, I assume that a TP pad made on a forge is gonna look arcane and one from a workbench will be tech and there are no options around this? -
The Invention Workbence on the arcane side does look horribly out of place I agree.
When I get around to placing one I will make sure its in a little room/corner out of the way! -
Excellent stuff, thanks for the guidance there folks!

Hiya folks, am trying again to get a Tanker up to half decent levels and am going with a Fire/Energy Melee build.
From reading guides and comment both here and on the US boards it looks like I will need to take the fighting pool to get TOUGH to supplement FIRE SHIELD and PLASMA SHIELD.
I am going for the leaping pool as a travel choice in order to get ACROBATICS for knockback protection and of course, will be taking fitness pool for HELATH and STAMINA.
Now all of those make my build seriously tight but I think I have come up with a build plan that lloks as if it might work. Can the more experienced players out there let me know if there are any major flaws with the following power choices?
Level 1: Blazing Aura
Level 1: Barrage
Level 2: Fire Shield
Level 4: Bone Smasher
Level 6: Healing Flames
Level 8: Consume
Level 10: Taunt
Level 12: Combat Jumping
Level 14: Super Jump
Level 16: Boxing
Level 18: Tough
Level 20: Acrobatics
Level 22: Swift
Level 24: Health
Level 26: Stamina
Level 28: Plasma Shield
Level 30: Burn
Level 32: Whirling Hands
Level 35: Build Up
Level 38: Energy transfer
Level 41: Total Focus
level 44: Fiery Embrace
Level 47: Energy Punch
Level 49: Rise of the Phoenix
Anything I should ditch?
Anything major missing?
Anything I should take earlier?
Anything I should take later?
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers folks -
8 minutes for the Cavern of Transcendence. I don't know whether to say thats obscene or whether to say its amazing.
I have twice tried to do that mission and at one of those times involved some very experienced players who knew how to use powers.
We just COULD NOT get to the stones all together to press them and thus failed the mission. I cannot imagine how you did it, but however it went down. Well done to you all. -
Brightest Blessings to ye Mother's Love.
Look after yourself and come back fitter than ever to bring down a Mother's Wrath on the naughty kids when you come back. -
If I can make it home from work in time I can probably give you a hand.
My level Level 18 Dark/Dark Defender Shadow Scout does not have Invisibility but does have TP and Recall Friend which "may" make the mission easier, or should I say possible? I have never succeeded in completing this mission. -
Wyrlock,
Sorry I missed last Thursday but I have started a 2nd MMO and was giving time to getting started on that. I am now giving time to getting stopped on it as its not a patch (or even an update?) on CoH.
I should be around later this week if you h=guys are going on patrol.
Re the patrol in Sirens call. I don't have a Defender hight enough to got in there so I can't help out in that one. Regarding poor response last week I can suggest a few factrs that may have caused that.
Firstly its easter and lots of folks were maybe doing family type things in the nice weather insted of playing.
Secondly and most lkely is that I9 is o server and lts folks may be playing there making the main city a bit quiet.
Depending on numbers you might consider having duo patrols in a number of zones at each time (2 in Hollows, 2 in Perez. or whatever). This means that those in each zone are kept busier and also means that the SG as whole gets more coverage and also more exposure.
Just some thoughts -
It's been a rough week for me and me heads in the shed a bit. So much so that I logged on LAST NIGHT as Harlequin Healer for this patrol by mistake. Don't worry tho I will still be there tonight in Hollows.
Incidentally, I dunno if its a knock on effect from our patrol last week, from Wyrlock's recruiting efforts, or if folks are just full of the joys of spring but....
there were around a half dozen or so folks in the Hollows last night all giving random buffs and heals to those in trouble. It was really good to see.
(If your reading this Atmospheric Fusion, great work!) -
Wyrlock,
No problems mate. It was good getting Harelequin Healer out of mothballs so to speak as I have been focusing on my main toon lately. (Trying to cure my altitis)
Who knows, maybe I will try and level her a bit further before 5th April so she has a few more buffs available.
If I don't run into you in game before then, I will see you (and everyone else who joined the SG) on 5th April.
-
Thanks folks, and Mr Motivator, you may have actually hit the nail right on the head with regard to my "problem" with Tankers.
No matter how I try to play them they only ever feel like slow and lumbering Scrappers. Perhaps I need to be a bit more patient and stick with it up to level 20 before really making my mind up.
Would you folks suggest I stick with the INV/AXE or go with the new Fire/Energy Melee concept? Any advantages or disadvantages between those sets if I am struggling with the AT? -
Thanks sheep.
Meteor time tonight!
(Actually should I be advertising in advance my likely presence in a PvP Zone?)
-
Dude, rather than make the thread a one to one here I have just sent you a private message to clarify details.
-
Some of you may well be aware that of all the Hero ATs I have never quite gotten to grips with the Tanker.
I have an INV/AXE tanker at level 11 where he has been stuck for many weeks despite this being the furthest I have ever taken a Tanker character before! Not one to admit defeat easily, I have a concept in mind for a Fire/Energy Mellee Tanker.
What I am after is any thoughts or comments from experienced folks as to whether this would be a good or bad combo given the fact that I have always struggled with the AT in general. Also any tips, Do's/Dont's etc would be a great help.
All comments gratefully received. -
I had a Warwolve as a "temp" pet once and that was well usefull. Are Shivans a whole lot better than the wolves then?
I ask mainly becuase I have just read a great trick to making the meteor mission a lot easier and hope to try it tonight.
