Again, just to make one premise clear, I absolutely agree that the basic for any new concept should be no seclusion or exclusion (with a possible proviso for established "griefers").
As regards GG and the issue of re-inventing the egg, I think there may be a certain difference in purpose between GG and the IC-idea. This may very well be a misunderstanding on my part, but it just seems to me from reading the numerous discussions on the boards that there may sometimes be a difference between "formal" RP'ing and the more "informal" playing a mission IC.
This is going to be hard to explain, but here goes:
I am by no means an experienced RPer and may have got this wrong, but for instance you mention above that to make one of your characters join in the IC-coalition, you would need some (historically established/continuity-based) IC-justification. This is what I mean by the more "formal" approach.
For me, I would have no immersion-problem with just popping along to the meeting point, joining up with a team, and doing whatever mission was chosen. My immersion would be ruined, not so much by lack of established continuity but rather by non-IC team-members complaining about XP or asking "ASL" in tells.
I don't know if this gives any sense, but it is an attempt to illustrate why I feel that GG'ing and IC'ing might be two (slightly) different eggs. -
I just wanted to make one thing clear - that a least from where I was coming, the intention behind the IC-coalition was certainly not to leave anybody out, but rather the exactly opposite - to create an open IC-environment, where people logging on with a given character and wishing to play missions IC could have an increased chance of finding like-minded other players who happened to be on at the same time.
Unfortunately, I was not aware of the game-mechanics-induced maximum limit for coalitions and can see that this might create problems (just as an example, I have all of my Union toons in different SGs and obviously there would not be room for all of those in an IC-coalition).
From my viewpoint, the whole purpose of the idea should be to enable IC-players to meet. Personally, I would prefer things to be as flexible and informal as possible. For instance, Battleflag's suggestion yesterday of an informal IC-rendezvous each evening in Galaxy would suit me very well, whereas (I think along the lines of what Wonka has said previously) too rigid rules and regulations could constitute a turn-off for some players. -
Would anybody be interested in copying (with Battle's permission of course) the same basic idea, but with a slightly less restrictive approach, mainly as regards (1) no requirement that it has to be new level 1 characters and (2) a more flexible timing of teaming-sessions?
I really like the idea of an IC team, but the three characters I would prefer to play are LVL 20, 10 and 8 respectively.
If we had a more "floating" schedule there might also be room for more than 8 members.
I don't know if this would work, or if it is just a variant of the IC-coalition already in progress thanks to Coile. -
Personally, I would have absolutely no trouble with someone like yourself being "in control" of the IC coalition, meaning that if e.g. I were to cause trouble by playing against a generally accepted norm, my character or SG could be "excluded".
The only concern would be not to be overly harsh on new players or players who make mistakes - so some kind of escalation procedure along the lines of (1) friendly advice, (2) reprimande, (3) more dire consequences (ultimately perhaps the one just suggested by FFM as punishment for godmoding), might be in order.
Also, I for one would be in favour of a tolerant approach to different RP-styles. I'm not referring to godmoding or power-spamming, but as a couple of examples, I would most probably become guilty of occasionally by habit using a "smiley" in conversation or "going AFK" without OOC-brackets - I would hope that people could live with small things like that without feeling it would ruin their immersion too much. -
Ah...nothing exciting AT or powerwise, just a concept for a WS that needs one of the villain faces (the young Asian one)/and some costume options to be "quite right"
-
Hi Coile,
To be perfectly honest - after your previous IC-posts, I was actually kind of hoping that you would jump to the gun, since I'm a complete mess at arranging things - so for me, it would be really great and highly appreciated if you would take the effort -
Good luck with the plans - I'm afraid I won't be able to take part in the first run on Union as I have my final free slot reserved for a special post-I7 concept
, but I really hope the idea takes off
-
Fair point - but IMHO it shouldn't be a huge problem - a team of new toons would probably catch up with my level 5 very quickly
( or I could exemplar down if that's possible from level 5?)
-
Good idea from my POV.
The only slight problem I would have is that I am very close to being out of new character slots on both Union and Defiant. I have a whole bunch of characters around 6-10, however, so if they could join, it would be great -
A meeting at or next to GG sounds like a good idea (as long as it wouldn't be too interruptive to the "regular" roleplaying at GG).
As regards timing, I tend to have the same problem with the 9 P.M. as Battle mentioned in the other thread - I am on CET and 9 P.M. UK is a bit close to my weekday bedtime -
I was just wondering - since there seems to be quite a few players who have responded positively to the mission-IC concept, would it be an idea to arrange for an in-game meet up point and time to get the exchange of IC-friends/global friends lists up and running?
If this would be seen as too much, an alternative might be to make a list of IC-players/toons along the lines of the "Union/Defiant list of 50s" - but, ashamed as I am to admit it, I would have no idea myself of how to actually start and keep such a list, as I am technically a complete "noob"
Would anyone find any of these ideas useful? -
Credit should go to you for starting the thread
-
Thanks Coile (And Coila),
I will try looking you up in game and see if we can get this IC coalition going
Hopefully, it could work as an open invitation concept for any SGs looking to do missions IC
Also, it would be great if the concept could work for both COH and COV -

I would love it if Find Member had a checkbox for RPer, so you could search only for RPers, and put together an RPer team. That would so rock. Right now my biggest difficulty is not knowing how to find fellow RPers when I'm putting together pickup teams.

I was wondering whether it might be possible to set up a coalition of RP supergroups in order to broaden the basis for creating IC/RP teams and PUGs.
I for instance try to play all missions at least 98 % IC, but have most of my characters in very small SGs created by myself for RP-purposes. I would love for these characters to be able to join some kind of RP-coalition. I have no idea how/if this would work from a technical viewpoint though.
Just in case anyone is wondering, by the last 2 % I just meant that I e.g. would have no trouble (without OOC-brackets) going "AFK 30 secs" during a mission or doing Frostfire twice with the same character and things like that, whereas things like complaining about XP would be out of the question -
Hi Comrades,
My good friend Tovarish X asked me to apologise on her behalf that she hasn't been too active lately and that she managed to miss the last group gathering - foolishly reading about it only after it was over)
Futhermore, she will most unfortunately be away over the next weekend, but please rest assured, she remains a dedicated Worker and hopes to meet you all soon
I'll tell her you weren't too angry with her to hear this, so please be kind to her when she's back -
Congratulations Catz - it was nice teaming with you on much of the final push to 50
-
A Big congratulation to you Black Light from Lotus and all her alts.
You are a great person to team with - and the one I can thank for introducing me to the basics of team-play, so thank you very much for that too -
I see what you mean - but if e.g. you take Focus Chi at 6 and Crane Kick at 8, you do have a half-decent attack-string "storm-thunder-crane" that allows you to prevail in most low-level encounters (at least on heroic where I play
)

OK, here's one more vote for the "get it as soon as possible and 3-slot with recharge"-crowd - I try to take it and slot it ASAP on all my MA scrappers and stalkers.
-
Sorry about the cross-posting - I'm such a slow typer
Anyway, if you need any criminal investigation services please feel free to contact Twilight, and she works on a purely charitable basis, so no fees will be charged -
Oops - just saw your latest post after sending mine - I'm afraid Twilight's amateur detective activities are all devoted to crime-fighting, so she won't investigate other SGs unless there is suspicion of foul play
-
The Twilight Detective carries out "Nancy Drew-style" investigations and would be pleased to help - she is currently still lingering at Level 2 though, so probably wouldn't be up for any thing too risky. There are plans for a Detective Agency SG once she advances to level 10.
On Defiant the Phantom Detectives are slightly more capable if similar problems should arise there. -
This sounds like a very good idea.
I am very close to being out of character slotsbut I think that either Lady Europe or The Blue Avenger might fit the profile if the team has room for any of them.
-
BTW - forgot to add that I actually recently started playing a toon who is an alien princess - So I'll take your advice on board for her too
-
Thanks - it sounds like a good playground for learning then
I will definitely give it a try if RC proceeds with the plan and has room for me - I already have a rough idea for a character
