Catering just to the power gamer, though, is why a LOT of NcSoft titles don't work here. Aion and Lineage are exactly like this. They cater to JUST that dynamic. If you don't have an MMO the caters to everyone it will fold up on itself. Like it or not, Guild Wars 2 hit the right stride and catered toward everyone. If someone else could establish a game of supers, like that, with solid PvE and PvP (where you can solo to the top, if you want) then it will do well. Without the casual aspect, though, you will not gather an audience. There is a reason the once proud Everquest fell rapidly from grace when WoW "and" CoH came out. It was a game based on grinding everything out.

Zwill is beyond awesome, but I'd also like to give nods to some priors... Let's hear it for Cup 'o Joe and Cricket! I miss them *sniff*
And Omg my First after a red name! I'd also like to edit and thank Hawk for keeping the lights on. Just a tough job to have these days, but he does it with dignity and respect. -
Do you even know how the attorneys on the other side of the case, had she pursued legal action, would have crucified her? In order to prove the bullies were "justified" the attorneys would be out to prove the girl brought it all on herself. In most cases like this, because of our screwed up legal system, the victim winds up worse than when legal sanctions began. It comes down to actions versus actions and if doubt can be shown then the bullies get away with it all. She tried to hold her head high and move on, but they wouldn't let her. I hope the families of the bullies understand the parents are liable and by allowing their children t act like this they are equally as reprehensible.

This is a sad stroy, but the message is spreading. Here's a video one girl made in response. I'm glad there are people out there taking a stand against this foolishness.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0jTC...jfwDmPXDCefQKg
Please heed the message. No one is ever alone. And to the girl that made the video I am posting you truly represent everything this online community represents, "We are Heroes! This is what we do!" -
I'm wiriting this because my time in the game was cut short on September 30th, when I moved to the East Coast. I won't have true internet until December and am currently reliant on my Hot Spot to post on forums and such. But before the forums wind down I wanted to take a moment to bring a little bit of focus back to our little community here.
After reading through today's Coffee Talk synopsis I felt a little ashamed, for the first time, at some of the things going on in the forums between us. There is a lot of negativity spreading and it really doesn't have a place here, it's not what we have been about. Our community has always held it's head high and there's no reason we can't respect each other's opinions as the clock winds down. After all we have a LOT to be proud of:
-#SaveCoH movement hasn't wavered even with blow after blow from NcSoft. In fact, more and more people are jumping in to spread the word. It is absolutely amazing to watch.
-Charity events have been the norm to help dispositioned members of the Paragon Studios staff and, even better, to help others around the country that also need help.
-On the Titan Network forums is a group of volunteers who have a Plan Z if the game can't be saved. I say let Plan Z become something even IF the game is saved. Original IPs and Independent studios are going to become more and more popular. It is quite conceivable that something truly grand will arise from our efforts.
-And above all else, our community has been recognized for our maturity in the face of losing our MMO home. I don't know how many of you have even tried to venture onto the WoW forums, but if you make it out unscathed you are pretty much close to a miracle worker.
In these last remaining weeks I want each of you to hold your head high. If the game is saved, great, if not (I hate saying this) find something to replace it. It doesn't have to be an MMO. It could be a new hobby all together. Become a creator. Donate to charity. Even journey together to a new forum home and keep in touch there with the grand memories we have cultivated here.
I miss the game, I really do, but what I really miss are my friends, who are, without a doubt, some of the greatest heroes I have ever met. So to the All Stars, to the Whisper X channel, to everyone on this forum I say this. Hold onto all you hold dear and remember, "We are heroes! This is what we do!" -
And the same can be applied in reverse. I have been on the heels of some very nasty trolling there and I do have things turned off and am set to the CoH channel. It seems because I didn't like it before and now I'm coming around I deserve said treatment. Wrong.
I have not chastised individuals for liking the game, in fact, my entire SG is there now. All I have done is state that the game has some quirks I dislike (beyond the silly cell shading everyone thinks I'm talking about.) But my opinion, to the games staunch defenders, is flawed and makes me worth of insults and mockery.
That's all fine, but the atmosphere is not something I want in my life right now. So, to the trolls and those that think opinions worthy of insults rather than critique, keep the game. You've already proven to me the community spirit here isn't shared there .
BTW this is on the heels a five reported incidents Ingame. I might add, that in CoH I only ever reported one person in the eight years I played. Five in three weeks... The game is uninstalled and will never be part of my library again because of this experience. -
Tribbles! Keep them away from the grain!
-
I'm not talking about running into buildings and such (troll much) I'm talking about how the characters look when the move. It's not as fluid as CoH. And the one uniform pose for flight looks silly. Just because I don't like the game doesn't mean I want to keep people from making it their choice game. Just stating my opinion. Like it or not CO won't measure up to everyone's standards. No amount of trolling (something I find very lacking about their community toward CoH players I might add) will change that viewpoint. And thank YOU for making it that much easier for me to uninstall it, again.
-
Looking good and playing good are two entirely different matters. Again, movement in the game is jerky and clumsy, especially with travel powers.
And I know I'm feeding trolls, but... Everyone is an amateur at first. Some great things come from amateur programers. Just look at the independent game market and how its flourishing right now. A lot of those games are, in fact, made by amateurs. I think what the Titan Network bunch is planning to do via Plan Z is amazing and a testament to the core of this community. It shows heart and courage. And as long as quality control is in place who knows what will come of it. -
You mentioned it, but the way characters move in CO is aweful. They jerk around instead of being fluid and a solid pose for flight? Uhg. I tried, I honestly did, so I could stay in touch with my old SGers upon my return, but that game is horrid.

Actually, the whole reason the SaveCoH movement is being glossed over is because so many temper tantrums have been made recently that our positive effort isn't new news. We are being lumped in with the tantrum crowd, but only insofar as the mainstream media coverage is concerned. Blame Mass Effect 3s call of outrage because it was the biggest to catch the attention of everyone. The problem here is, those players DID make an impact. I think there is a fine line. You want to be agressive to a point, but not draw negative reports. And to be honest, the Mass Effect 3 debacle got attention when death threats started arriving in developers mailboxes. "That" can wind you in legal probelms that you just don't want and since our position is "Save a Super Hero Game" you don't want to come across as a "super villain."
The old axiom of journalism is to cover something once when the topic is hot and the next time a similar subject arrises it immediately goes back to page 9. We're there because of the weekend NcSoft chose to do all of this and because our news isn't fresh. And to me that is the saddest aspect of this whole thing. The fact that we are approaching this in such a positive matter should be bigger news than it is. -
Read the article. Very short sighted. Massively just lost some credit IMO. And the responses. There's one person there actively making it seem like we're a "cry baby" lot when that is simply not the case. We are a community that cares deeply about a game that turned us into creators. No other MMO feels the way CoH does. Tearing the tools away from artists is heart breaking and I think our mature response to the whole thing gives us reason to hold our heads high.
-
This is what our little YouTube team has stated all along about the community aurrounding this game. Best part is the Developers became part of us. If there's one thing I would add to the article it's this, "In the end the relationship between Paragon Studios and the Players felt more like home than anything else. We are all creators, they gave us the backyard playground to build and we ran with it. City of Heroes [is] an amazing mark on the MMO map and it's because of one thing... We emerged, in the end, a family."

Two things with regard to this post:
1) I am done with subscription-based MMOs. I paid for CoH monthly, as a VIP, because the devs embraced and became part of our community. I have not seen that anywhere else, especially with subscriptions as the main way into the game. Hybrid models are the way to go and the games that have done as such have development teams that are, indeed, treading through the game with the players.
2) As Hitstreak stated, Torchlight 2 is amazing. $20 for a game on par with Diablo 3 is pretty amazing. -
In all likelyhood, to save face (legally), they did try to sell the game, but attached an unattractive price tag, one they knew would be ignored. NcSoft's history of releasing IPs... Not good. Sad, day for me, guess my Christmas Wish now needs to be a Christmas Miracle.
-
While the intent is understandable, the reasons people are upset at this particular game going under is not, primarily, because of addiction base.
This game, unlike other MMOs (and in the "other" batch I do include DCU and CO), players were granted a creative outlet, a chance to live out a dream. That dream is not to RP or play a super hero, but creating one.
The creators here start with a blank canvas and then unleash their creativity upon the community. Most draw out praise, some laughs, and some glares, but all are seeking some form of attention for what was once a plain canvas.
When a writer, artist, or musician are told they cannot partake in their craft anymore the symptoms we see on this forum come about. It's a system shock and our creators are trying desperately to figure out just how they will be able to continue on if the game goes offline.
For me, I had to go through all this much sooner than everyone else, I can only respond to posts via mobile devices right now. It hurts that my creativity may never be able to reach the level it did in CoH again. Is this a sign of withdrawl? No. It is merely a loss of a means for me to create and as such, a stage of grief. I have lost something I cannot replace and am gong through the stages as are the entire community. -
And on Mondays show, no followup, not one blessed thing. Sorry, if you want to report the news you'd best do some research. Player reaction should be a standard focus when presenting news about changes or closures. And the term "finally" really set me off. If she posts a followup I may go back, but she has lost focus and thus, lost me as a sub.
Oh, and I'm Awesome "K" from Pew's channel. Posting mobile as I wait for my moving truck later this week *sigh*. (The Pew is short for Pewlagon, folks, not PewDePie) -
What makes me sad...
-Sept. 30th would have been my last day in game until December, after I got settled. Now when the computer goes live again... no CoH, unless I have a Pre-christmas miracle.
-Not getting to see the War Witch ghost model replaced with a live model.
-Not being able to RP anymore. Nowhere else has the same RP community. (Never try to RP in WoW all they want is "conversation". Try to create your own background and they will tear you appart.)
-Helping make CoH videos. We restarted the channel the VERY week the announcement came down.
-And worst, like many have said, watching the developers get canned on a holiday weekend. -
To be honest I am a little disappointed in TGS ATM, but there are reasons most of them haven't covered it. The news came out on Labor Day weekend, also the first full weekend after Guild Wars 2 launched, and PAX was that weekend as well. It worked to NcSoft's advantage and the news was buried by Tuesday. After that most of the talk about our community and our efforts took sort of an "oh, here are some more upset gamers mad because their game is closing." Sadly, because of the way other groups have handled support or games being shut down we are passed over as "uninteresting news." Hardly any know our community unless they have been a part of it.
Still, it doesn't mean the news should just be ignored or glanced over. If your show is about news, like Dodger's channel or the TGS podcast itself, then the topic should be delved into and examined thoroughly.
One thing of note, Felicia Day will be guesting on the TGS podcast either this week or next, not sure which. She can bring a topic to discuss and we sort of nudged Dark_Respite to mention our plight since they haven't yet. My partner, on my channel, actually wants to guest on the show to do this, in fact, but our channel is hardly popular enough to get noticed for such. As it stands, we just have to hope they wise up a little with their practices. -
We sent her a tweet and messages on the video about her inaccuracies, but not a single reply or a follow up vid to rectify. She may wait until Monday, but if she doesn't fix her mistake she will have made a gross mistake via journalistic standards. I have followed her until this point, but will be unsubbing Monday if she doesn't rectify her simple pass over on the news surrounding the news of the closure.

Considdering my last day is well before everyone else, Sept. 30th, I will be filming my farewell pieces and doing an RP sendoff for the character that has been my main for nearly 8 years.
-
If I were Carbine and Arenanet I'd be looking at the "Corporate" sabotage clauses in their contracts. Especially, since NcSoft has stated, publically, they want out of the American market. That can at least give them breach and a way to force NcSoft to sell them or provide revenue to allow them to exist on their own.
-
As of today, I am in my own final five days as a member of this grand community. I will be off the internet, save mobile devices, until December. Which means I need to say my goodbyes sooner rather than later.
Yes, I know, a great effort is under way to save the game and I hope and pray it succeeds, but on Sunday, the 30th, my characters will be removed from the game. This saddens me, because one character was created as homage to a dear friend I lost to Leukemia the very first year the game came out.
Over the next five days I will be bidding farwell to my RP SG, the All Stars, on Virtue. One of the greatest groups I have seen because of the tight grasp they have on their characters and universe. Every Wednesday has been a treat, almost like New Comic Days and I am honored I got to tell many tales through them. My fave being the tear jerker created by our leader, where we found his character brutalized at the hands of one of our nemesi. The battered look he came up for her... *shudder* still sends chills through me.
Also, the zanies in the Whisper channel, you are an SG without the confines of an SG. The chat channel truly became a part of my entended family. Thank you for being a part of my experience in this game.
Lastly, my partner will have a farewell vid from me up on his channel soon. I hope you all like it we've worked long and hard on our channel, just to see if we liked making vids, and even though we have a teeny subscriber base we love each and every person that has subbed.
Anyway, cheers to the Titan Network! Cheers to the Devs and Community! Cheers to everyone supporting the efforts to save the game! I love you all! Send a tell to @Grimrose if you want to say goodbye over the next five days. Otherwise, as my partner states, I will see you all in the near future. -
We are soon to move again and need to offload a decent sized comic collection. Any idea on what's the best way to go about this? Aside from eBay that is.

My favorite memory... Pinning it down to just one...
Joining the All-Star Sentinels RP SG. Closest group of RPers I have ever met.
