    http://www.figureprints.com/Help/FAQ.aspx

    Says this:
    Quote:
    How much do they cost?
$129.95 plus shipping for characters on the U.S. and Oceanic servers, 99,95€ plus shipping on the European servers. Please note that European deliveries may be subject to additional VAT taxes, brokerage fees, and duties on delivery.
I would definitely pay $130 for a CoH char, and likely buy several, though probably not all at once.

They also have something called "Figurepets" that are, you know. Figures of pets. I could see this being used to make Mastermind/Troller pets or even NPCs/Enemies:
    Quote:
    How much do FigurePets™ cost?
FigurePets™ are available for $29.95 (24,95€) plus shipping or you can buy a set of three for $74.85 (59,85€). European deliveries may be subject to additional VAT taxes, brokerage fees, and duties on delivery.
Less expensive because they're smaller and not "custom" like the main figure prints are, is my guess. They can mass produce them more cheaply.

And just in case, this here would be a very important consideration(emphasis mine):

    Quote:
    How big are FigurePrints?
We print all characters in scale relative to each other so depending on the race of the character and the pose chosen the resulting statue can be as large as eight inches tall. Smaller characters have the option to be printed on larger bases to give them a boost.

150 pounds is kind of expensive...

But I'd pay it. Several times over.

    Maybe some day.
I have actually attempted to use one of those ripping programs, with, unfortunately, unsuccessful results. I had planned to rip my character, plug it into Pepakura and have myself a fun little project. (And no, I'm not afraid of saying this in a public forum. Were I successful in ripping the model, I likely would have immediately contacted a dev and started a discussion about doing it some more.)

Of course I'm not expert on 3d stuff and it's entirely possible I was doing something very wrong for it not to work properly. Maybe I'll try again sometime, or maybe someone else will beat me to it. (If you do, TELL ME HOW!)

Getting back on topic, more stuff on the webpage would be nice. Been missing the Paragon Times for instance, and I think there are still some missing enemy group entries.

Also ditto on all the other kinds of merchandise. T-shirts, posters, mugs, pins. Figures of official characters would be cool, too. Hell, in my dreamworld there'd be a whole line of CoH action figures complete with playsets such as "Under Atlas Statue" and "WentWorth's" and "The Hive(with bonus inflatable Hamidon!)"

Grandville Tower playset complete with meeting room and exclusive Lord Recluse figure!

Golden Giza Mega-Set with Special Edition Johnny Sonata and talking Slot Machine with real working lights and sounds!

I double quoted it for emphasis. If you guys could somehow get in touch with the guys at www.figureprints.com and make some kind of deal, I would be broke for a year with the amount of money I'd end up spending.
  5. How's typing on that? I once tried to use I think it was Mocha VNC and the keyboard was pretty terrible(it didn't use the iphone keyboard). The framerate was also really slow, I think it was something like .1 FPS. I'm not expecting framerates to let me do missions or anything, but 1 frame every 10 seconds is pretty terribad. I mean, at least it worked at all considering I didn't know what I was doing and it was a free app. I wouldn't mind paying some money if I could get something with a better interface and better performance.

I'd also be interested in your experiences using it over 3G, especially if you can potentially still do stuff like use the AH and chat.
  6. I can tell you that you'll still see some Shield auras every once in awhile even if you're using that setting. You'll see Active Defense when it activates, for instance, and sometimes you'll see Against All Odds.

This happens with /SR's click mez as well, unless you have it set in the tailor to not show any FX. Unfortunately, Shield doesn't have that option.

For the vast majority of the time though, it should work with Shield auras.

I'll also add my vote to the suggestion to put the number higher. I use 300 myself.
  7. I successfully responded before it filled. Glad to help.

Remaking everything small seems like the worst possible way to do it. It would be much easier(and no, I'm not saying it would be "easy" just much more efficient) to develop a way to scale all physical attributes of a player down. Actually they probably could do this right now by increasing the range of the various sliders, especially allowing more range on the "Height" slider.

But doing that still wouldn't effect movement speeds, you'd just end up with a tiny guy running as quick as a normal-sized guy, and probably using power FX with the same normal size. Which on a tiny guy would look enormous.

So they'd need to develop a way of scaling down power FX and movement attributes relative to player size. And making that scaling system could take a lot of work itself.

Of course I'm not even going into the problems with targeting tiny people or recalculating power ranges, especially melee range.

So yeah, it'd be cool, but unlikely.
  9. I've been using it for at least a couple years and don't remember it resetting myself, so it seems there's still some kind of.. schism.

But it doesn't matter anymore, if yours works now too.

And I was actually doing both, comparing visuals and looking at the value of just typing in /vis_scale. There's a pretty stark contrast between 2 and 4, just visually though.
  10. OK, I just tested it. I set vis_scale 4 using my usual bind while inside my base, then I zoned out to Peregrine. It was still at 4. I zoned to Talos, still at 4. I zoned to Steel, still at 4. I logged out and switched chars, and it was still at 4. Every time I zoned I made sure to check the difference between 2 and 4, but every time it started out at 4.

So I dunno why it's resetting for you guys, but for me it only resets when I fully quit and relaunch CoH.

    my bind is "vis_scale 4$$dofweight 0.6$$lodbias 2$$suppressclosefxdist 300" and it's on my F11 key.

dofweight doesn't really do anything for me right now since I'm on an ATI and have it disabled, and I change suppressclosefxdist between 3 or 300 depending on which character I'm using, but otherwise the rest of the bind stays the same.

Edit: Also tested it going in/out of a mission, still doesn't reset. Dunno why.

Well first of all, visscale 4 doesn't actually render everything in the zone, at least not visually. There are many smaller detail objects that don't show up until you get closer. Things like leaf piles and boulders. Not to mention, you don't see any NPCs or players outside of a certain range no matter what settings you use.

Second, why on earth do you want to turn up your World Detail setting? Or render shadows? Or reflections? Because it makes the game look better. visscale 4 makes the game look better than visscale 2(which is the limit if you only use the slider in Options) and it makes it game look better than visscale 3. For those of us who have computers that can handle it, visscale 4 is a nice visual step up. If I can continue to use it when Ultra Mode hits, I will.

As to the OP's question, the easiest way I've found is to bind it. I do have to reset it when I relaunch CoH, but I've not had it reset when I zone. It usually lasts through my entire session, even when switching characters.
  12. I was in the same boat. Been building my own PCs for the last 15 years and just decided to let someone else do the work for me this time.

Bought from ibuypower and, aside from the agonizing wait(which I think was due to it being the holidays at the time), I haven't had a single problem.

$2000 is about 6-700 more than I spent on my i7 920 and 5850 setup, so you should be able to get a damn nice puter.
  13. There is a rather large Crey-branded building in Kings Row. Can't remember exactly where it is at the moment, but it's giant and brown and monolithic and hard to miss. I always thought that this building was Crey HQ, or at least the "public" Crey HQ.

It has some passages that lead under it like an exterior lobby type deal, but no actual interior.

It's nothing like the Crey buildings in Nerva, with the tiny bit of interior and the Crey agents outside doing PR work with the citizens and the big walled-off area out back with the cages and buildings and such.
  14. I'm not sure, mine came with my computer from ibuypower.com. Dunno where they get theirs, though I think they're based in California.

You know what else Shrek's planner had? Attack chain planner.

    Jus sayin.
  16. My normal install didn't do it by default. It's possible Steam does something to make it turn Aero off. Not sure.

I'm quoting my own post here for convenience. Emberly, try doing this for your CoH install. If you have a desktop shortcut for CoH, do the same steps for it as well.

For your Steam CoH install, it should be in "Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\City of Heroes". For the normal CoH install it should just be in "Program Files\City of Heroes\" (or "Program Files (x86)" if you're using 64bit). Hope this helps.

And from now on, their work is now 1/3rd larger for making new powersets and costume peices.
An easier way to do some of this is to just allow more variation of the sliders. Extend their lower and/or upper range, I mean. (Of course I don't mean to say this would be easy in and of itself, just probably easier than adding more whole body types.)
  19. I still want the ability to make a fatty.

    My 5850 has 2 HDMI and a mini-displayport...
  21. Hmm, I just realized I also now have 2 puters capable of playing Ultra Mode... My old C2D setup with an 8800GTS (but only 2gb of RAM!) and my new i7 with a 5850 and 6 gigs of memory.

    Yeah, bring it on.
  22. WoW has updated its graphics a few times over the years, always keeping the baseline the same and expanding the higher range for people who have computers that can handle it. Currently, highest settings on WoW can be taxing on some mid-range computers, with better shadows, more draw distance, more detail environment objects, etc. And beginning with their previous expansion(WotLK) and continuing in their next(Cataclysm) they're doing complete overhauls of both their environments and their models.

It will still look cartoony, because that's an intentional design choice on the part of Blizzard.

In some ways Ultra Mode is similar to what WoW has been doing, but in some ways it's different. We're getting new postprocessing effects, much better shadows, and nice-looking reflections on various surfaces like WoW has gotten. But as far as I know, we're not getting upgraded models(just some new ones later on for the new characters/factions in GR), and we're not getting redone environments(again, some new ones later on for GR).

But another similarity between the two is that the minimum requirements stay the same. If you're running these games on a 4 year old PC, turning on the extra settings may not be an option for you. But you can still play the game without them.

And if you look closely at CoH player models, you'd also notice that most of our costume parts are drawn directly onto the body, just like in WoW. (That's anything in the Tight or Tight With Skin category for chest/hips, anything in the Smooth/Bare category of gloves, and a lot of foot options.) Yeah, there's other costume bits that don't just draw on the body, but don't think for a minute that CoH doesn't do it.

Anyway, I do hope all of this work on Ultra Mode comes with some back-end fixes for basic performance, as BillZ said. Even after upgrading to a PC that will run anything I can throw at it at highest settings, I still get FPS drops in certain places in CoH(Grandville, Nerva, parts of Cap, Crey's Folly, for instance).

I spent half an hour last night walking through PI wile the sky cycled from clouds and whatnot to a giant version of the zone map to the marble floor from the Atlas City Hall, etc, etc.

Also, I'm not 100% sure, but I followed all the recommended settings in this thread and everything looks...jagged on the edges.
I'm still using 10.1 and I alt tab like crazy, and have never seen those kinds of graphics issues, so I don't know what to say to that.

To fix the jaggies I had to disable all the settings as recommended(DOF, Bloom, Desaturation, AA/AF off, Water Low), and I hit "Apply Now". Then I went into the CCC and unchecked "Use Application Settings" and set the AA and AF up to my desired levels. Then I had to quit and restart CoH.

And now my jaggies are gone.
