Very true. And he's been confirmed to be an Incarnate by the Devs. His canon powers are to create portals between dimensions and "bend" dimensions, and he also seems to have the ability to neutralize others' offensive powers (at least) inside his dimensional zones. Maybe his power to negate attacks extends to more than just his little pocket dimensions, if he could neutralize one of Anti-Matter's death rays.

I think DJ Zero is much more interesting than most people realize. He possesses the ability to cross dimensions and create portals between them for others to use, both of which are central not only to Emperor Cole's plans to invade Primal Earth but also to Reichsman's pursuit of power. He also seems to have the power to negate others' attack powers, which could potentially derail any invasion by itself.

I suspect that DJ Zero's just become a very big target in Cole's crosshairs after this Praetorian Surge, in the event he wasn't already. Maybe Pocket D isn't just a nightclub for everyone to go relax; might it actually be a stronghold where Zero can't be attacked?

  3. My light-based character covers the whole spectrum of visible light. I had the original inspiration thinking of the old Rainbow Raider, one of Barry Allen's (Silver Age Flash's) old Rogues' Gallery villains, along with Halo from Batman and the Outsiders.

My girl's name is Sister Spectrum, and she's a Rad/Rad Defender with all her powers brightly colored with one of the 7 colors of the rainbow spectrum: Red (pure offense, attacks), Orange (holds, mez), Yellow (debuff), Green (self-buff), Blue (teammate buff), Indigo (Heal), Violet (Rez). The only real exception is her Atomic Blast, which I made pure white to differentiate it from all her other powers. For her Epic I took the Dark Mastery powers, which thematically work since darkness is the inverse of visible light (and thus her ability to manipulate visible light's opposite truly indicates her mastery of her powers). I also threw in the Grant Invisibility and Invisibility powers since they likewise work with the concept of manipulating visible light.

It's a neat concept, and visually it looks quite nice. It's worth remembering that light-based powers don't always have to be pure white, as a few others have noted as well. Green Lantern is only one aspect of DC's relatively new concept of the Emotional Spectrum, where each color corresponds to a primal emotion: Red-rage, Orange-greed, Yellow-fear, Green-will, Blue-hope, Indigo-compassion, Violet-love. I used that spectrum to sort out how I wanted SisSpec's powers to work.

  5. Having read all the newly available info on i20.5 (which I still think deserves to be called i21), I am most highly pleased. WHEEEEE!!!!!

New Lore Pets: I'm happy that we're getting more than the original 4 choices, but I'm ecstatic that we're getting Storm Elementals! W00t! I'd been asking for these ever since we got the info on Lore pets, and now they're coming to us! Huge WTG, Devs!

Buffs becoming AoE: I had actually learned to live with the fast response of setting buffs on teammates, but making some of these AoE will definitely make life easier. Making them AoE without increasing the end cost is a very nice surprise, however. Thanks for that.

New auras: Once again, this is absolutely wonderful. I've been playing a color spectrum themed character for some time, and I've had to use one of the Bonus Sprints to get an acceptably rainbowish movement trail. Not a huge drain on endurance, but it can be an issue at times. Now I can actually use a real rainbow aura! Hooray!

New costume pieces: I'm actually okay with the Ascension Armor pieces being 50-only. I had assumed they were going to be Alpha-unlocked characters only, from the name. I still don't have a huge problem with having special benefits for lvl 50 characters (although account-wide is most definitely better), but I know some players feel very strongly in the opposite direction. Overall, I'm always happy to get new costume and appearance pieces.

Vouchers for auras, capes, threads, shards: Excellent idea! This will definitely improve the strain on those of us with multiple 50s. I had actually just picked one hero and one villain of mine to focus on taking down the Incarnate path, just because my mind can't take grinding any more characters than that. This is a great QoL upgrade.

Cutscene Skipping: Bless you, bless you, bless you. We know the Big Dog's here, we know MM has gone under the knife. Thanks for sparing us.

New Emotes: Hmmm, no details on these. Interesting. New emotes are almost always good, though. Expect this will be nice.

Okay, overall feeling for this update is EXTREMELY POSITIVE!!!. To all the CoX team, thanks for listening to the sometimes torrential feedback and suggestions from all of us. We really do appreciate it. (And thanks again for the Storm Elementals! Yay!)

  7. I'd most dearly love to see a Sorcery powerset, maybe even two separate Sorcery sets with one focused on more ranged/control and the other focused more on buff/debuff/PBAoE. The ideal way (heck, really the only way) to handle a powerset as broad as Sorcery would be to treat it the same way we do the Peacebringer and Warshade powersets: at least one very broad set with umpteen choices of powers in that set, allowing very different builds with the same Sorcery powerset. If there were fourteen or fifteen possible choices in each Sorcery powerset, that'd give a tremendous range of variability, even with just a single set.

While that sounds like a huge deal, and it most likely is, existing Peacebringers and Warshades already have 14 choices in their primary set and 12 in their secondary set, so this has already been done in game. I'd think that a large percentage of potential Sorcery powers already exist in some form inside other sets, such as various blasts, buffs, melee attacks, holds, etc.; that would cut down the true amount of work the powers and FX teams would face creating such a set. We also already have powersets with different animation options and FX options, further increasing the range of personalization possible for Sorcery powers.

Now, here's my own personal twist I'd put on a Sorcery powerset: I'd make this the new unlockable Epic. Give it for free for players who have reached level 50, and make it a purchasable option for those who can't wait until they hit fifty. This way there's a reward for reaching 50 while still making the powerset available to those who simply can't wait.

Yeah, it's an odd idea, but I really think it could work.

But for what it's worth it was clear to anyone who paid attention to the very first info that broke about this pilot months ago that this Wonder Woman was ALWAYS going to end up in the classic "shorts" version of the costume at some point. One of the leaks mentioned that her shorts outfit was clearly hanging in her closet along with other outfits. People decided to throw so many hissy-fits at the first photos we saw that the news that we were going to eventually see her in a version of the shorts outfit was totally ignored by most people. In hindsight maybe they shouldn't have kept this as much of a "secret" as it ended up being because maybe there would have been less negative reaction to the show. Who knows?

Anyway here's an example of what it was going to look like:

Eh, to be honest it's not that terribly impressive. But at least we can say this show failed for reasons OTHER than her not being in the classic short outfit, assuming that counts for anything. *shrugs*
Wow, that looks... not bad. Not bad at all. Well, the bracelets still look cheap and slightly off, but that could be fixed. She definitely fills out this costume quite nicely and actually LOOKS like WW here.

Why on earth didn't the show's team "leak" this photo three, four, five weeks ago, when the negative reaction to the disaster they showed us was swelling? Honestly, that might very well have turned around the public's opinion, which could possibly have saved the show (or at least the pilot). Maybe it was doomed for more serious problems we never heard about, but we'll never know. Nice idea in giving us a pleasant surprise, poor execution in still keeping it secret while support for the show withered and died.

  9. I think an interesting alternate would be one that started like Praetoria, but where Stefan Richter also manages to drink from the Well and survives Marcus Cole's preemptive attack on him.

We'd still see Cole as Tyrant, but now Richter (Tarantula works, I suppose) would provide an equally imposing force, most likely promoting liberty and individuality to oppose Cole's oppressive uniformity. It would be curious to see as to what side the Praetors would fall; I'd expect that Dominatrix would side with Tarantula just to tick her granddad off, and we know that Anti-Matter would follow her. I'd also have Nightstar keep her original, more humanoid form and join Tarantula out of hatred and jealousy/envy of Siege (maybe even a robotic lovers' quarrel). Chimera would also be almost a sure thing, as would Belladonna. To make things really nuts, keep Shalice and Aurora share a body but fight for control; when dominant, Shalice would support Cole, but Aurora would support Richter, resulting in neither of them being trusted fully and making an unstable time bomb that much more unstable.

It would be worth noting that just because he promotes individual liberty, Tarantula still might not be any more of a "good guy" than Tyrant. Or maybe he'd be a paragon of compassion and chivalry. Lots of ways to have fun with this.

    HEY LIBERTY!

Pictures become more and more precious with each year. You might not have planned it this way, but you've got a nice little photo album here to share with your friends on this server. Very nice, and your daughter is adorable. Just remember that they grow up too fast, and that growing up gains speed with each passing year.

  11. There is no evil in the Rogue Isles like Westin Phipps. Peter Themari comes close, but Phipps is the master of soul-blackening evil. He tells you exactly what it is that makes him so evil, too, in his pre- and post-mission dialogue.
  12. Hangin' Judge or Hanging Judge would be my suggestions, if you're looking for a judge theme. Mistrial or some variation on it would also work nicely, as would Life Sentence.

This boils down the entire problem with Marauder's 100% S/L resist nicely: It makes many characters and builds which inflict Smashing or Lethal damage directly useless for the purposes of completing the main, final objective of the trial. Yes, they can contribute indirectly (albeit very indirectly) by taking down adds, but if their primary powersets do smashing or lethal damage, Marauder is completely impervious to them despite any debuffing.

This is what goes against the spirit of the game and one of the primary, overriding goals the devs have repeatedly stated for many years: a player should not be excluded from or useless on any TF/SF/trial team because of a character's AT or powerset selections. It's been stated in various ways, but that's the principle at the heart of this belief. I (and apparently many others) feel that this principle should apply to "Master of" attempts as well.

Part of CoX's fun has always been taking a thrown-together PUG and trying to make the different powers and ATs work together to overcome obstacles. As such, this is only fun if any combination of ATs and powers has a chance of succeeding with good players playing them. Here's where the MoLambda fails the test, because with 100% S/L resist, any AT which relies upon smashing and/or lethal damage is useless for taking down Marauder. As explained earlier in this thread, debuffs can't reduce 100% resistance, so nothing anyone does can make these characters inflict damage with their primary and secondary powersets, aside from procs or pets which possess different damage types; given Marauder's 100k hp and regen of approximately 100hp/sec, proc damage isn't going to be significant, and cheering for your pets to do all the damage while you're ineffectual doesn't feel very heroic.

So on MoLambda runs, players who have chosen to run any of the many powersets of Brute, Scrappers, Tanks, Stalkers, Blasters, Corruptors, Masterminds, or Defenders which depend on smashing/lethal damage are being penalized solely because of their archetype and powerset. THAT'S what is so frustrating. No way around it with skill, original thinking, debuffs, buffs, or power combinations. Having to rely on armies of Lore Seers to become relevant on this particular trial fits the bill of a trial requiring certain AT/power combinations, and that's what the devs and players alike have always been explicitly against.

Heck, give him 95% S/L resist like Reichsman. At least that gives us something to work with, so we don't feel useless when we try to get the MoL badge for our mace tanks, or our claws scrappers, or our soldiers MM, or our archery blasters, or any of the other characters we've put in the time and effort to get to 50, become Incarnates, and work for Master badges. They'd like a fair chance to be useful against Marauder too.

  14. So a same-level sideways conversion costs 150 threads?

    Really? REALLY?

That's... a rather steep conversion cost. In fact, it seems almost laughable, if not insulting, if that's supposed to be a serious attempt to provide a "reasonable" cost for converting one UR component to another.

Of course, we also still have the absurd INF costs for the high-end components, which effectively price the 4th Tier components out of reach of I'd guess 90% of the casual players and probably half of the hardcore players.

I know that I'm not the only one who's pointed out repeatedly that these prices are really only feasible for farmers. In fact, the complaints about the INF costs have been second only to complaints about the rewards drops. So why don't we even get an acknowledgement that anyone has so much as heard this?

  15. Thanks to Zwillinger, Baronyx, Posi and everyone else who's felt the flames of Player Wrath this last week. I find myself reserving judgement until we have some more details, however. I think it's been made quite clear that having a clear explanation of exactly how these Incarnate Trial rewards are calculated is essential. Honestly, I think that even a terribly borked reward system would have been met with much less anger and frustration than no clear explanation about the system whatsoever.

I've been here long enough to not jump at most things. I've always maintained my regular playstyle throughout the Trials, and I take more pleasure in doing my job as a Blaster and helping the league succeed overall than trying to game things for my own personal reward. Out of 51 ITrials I've run, I've gotten 2 commons, 1 rare, 47 uncommons, and threads once when I dc'd for several minutes. It's quite obvious I'm not interested in gaming the system. But I had already noticed some resentment toward Blasters even going back to last Friday. Players who knew me had no hesitation inviting me to join a BAF or a Lambda, but I was frequently ignored by Trial leaders I didn't know this last week. Hopefully this new reward system will eliminate the bickering and cutthroat attitude that the current black-box reward system has fostered. We all need to get back to having fun again.

  16. There are some NPC costume pieces that I've been salivating over for YEARS, so I'm quite happy to see this thread taking shape. I'll restrain myself and try to keep my suggestions for costume pieces to be converted to player-usable limited to ones that seem to be fairly doable and reasonable. Listed in order of preference:

1-Ring Mistress boots, gloves, bustiers, micro-skirts... Oh, these would be heavenly to be able to play with! If the devs want to keep the harlequin patterns for sole use by the Carnival, that's fine; we would still love just the pieces themselves! Icing on the cake would be if we could get the RM/DRM bustier with OR without the high collar. I've loved the Carny costume pieces ever since i1 (yes, I go back to pre-i1), and legions of us have asked for these costume pieces since then. If I could only get these out of my list, I'd still be vastly happy.

2-Sybil dresses/costume pieces and Sister Solaris's costume pieces. Even if we only get parts of these, they'd be amazing in terms of several character concepts. Like Golden Av said earlier, if using these pieces would disable capes, I'd be fine with that. Same with trenchcoats or other category conflicts. The way the Sybil/Solaris pieces flow is just stunning, and I'd love to be able to use some of them on my characters.

3-Waist Sashes. Ring Mistresses, Moonfire, Shadowstar, Sunstorm, Tsoo Sorcs... all these have very nice sashes that would help broaden our selection beyond the scant two or three we have so far.

4-Succubus boots! I've long felt these would be ideal as an unlockable costume piece, most likely for defeating demons, but I'd be thrilled to see them as an open and selectable costume piece for the beginning as well. They're exciting, fun, and make a great fashion statement. Time for the succers to share.

5-High lace-up Cimeroran sandals. You know, the ones that go up onto the calf. Perfect addition to the sparse choices we have for minimalist footwear that isn't boots.

Other posters have listed some great ideas, but these five are my personal recommendations and wish list for porting to player-selectable. Thanks for soliciting input from players; now we just hope you don't get drowned in the inevitable flood!

My first and all-time favorite Shadowrun character was a 1st/2nd edition decker/street samurai that I ran for years. I took some heat over his (yes, I played a male character, and it was fun!) favoring stealthy approaches over the guns-blazing mentality, but with some bioware and a Predator 2 he turned into a very capable and well-rounded character. The old Tech Pool from the Encephalon and Math CPU made good Electronics and assorted B/R skills even better, and all of a sudden you have a character who contributes in pretty much anything short of magic or vehicle combat.

I'm re-reading 4th edition now, and I'm trying to get over my initial apprehension with them making it such a departure from 3rd edition. I personally felt that the 3rd core rulebook was the first true single book you could buy and run a real SR game from, and I loved the very appropriate changes from 1st to 2nd and the tweaks from 2nd to 3rd. I guess I'm weird in that I enjoyed the feel of rolling this big handful of 6-siders and listening to them clatter onto the table, so I think I'd miss that feel if I convert to 4th. What makes the most sense to me is to finish out my tabletop group's current 3rd edition campaign, then reroll an all-new group and try out 4th ed. rules and see how it feels to everyone. I promise I'll give you my feedback when we actually take the plunge.

Man, I love that there are this many Shadowrun players and GMs in CoX, both players and dev alike. It just makes the best MMORPG that much better. =)

Steele, the most convenient place to find them is on Paragon Wiki. Pretty sure the link was posted elsewhere on the forums, but here's the fast way to what is known about Omega Team and their letters: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Omega_Team

And I think Branforth's prophecies have been covered pretty well, but I'd like to offer a kiss on the cheek to whomever came up with the phrase in prophecy XII, "A flood of brains rain in the town." What's on all the badges for crafting the different types of IOs? The cross-section of a brain. Subtly and elegantly done, indeed.

  19. I've been having the exact same problem for the last two days. Fixing the cohupdater file gets past the /tempfile hurdle, but then it just falls into the eternal nightmare of "downloading file manifest," then "fixing cityofheroes.exe," repeated endlessly. I've already sent a ticket to tech support, but no response yet. I'd certainly appreciate any info that could help me get past this. Thanks!
