There are players that only want to play in AE. That is fine for them.
There are new players that may not grasp that there is more to the game beyond AE and something needs to be done to show them that the rest of the game exists.
That is why other "real game" contacts should pop up at level appropriate times like Level 5: Detective/Broker, Level 10: College Tutorial, Level 20: Icon/Facemaker and so on. This may generate interest amongst new players to go see what these other contacts want in these other, 'new', zones to these new players. -
Welcome to COH.
Another option is to start doing the Signature Heroes Task Forces, starting with Positron TF in Steel Canyon. At lower levels, you can level pretty quick and even gain some levels at the higher level TF's. -
"Some are born Rikti, some achieve Rikti, and others have Rikti thrust upon them."
"The Good, the Bad, the Rikti."
"Do you feel lucky, Rikti, well, do ya?"
"Give me Invasion or give me Rikti."
"I regret that I only have one live to give to my Rikti."
"You have the right to remain Rikti. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a forum thread. You have the right to a Drop Ship present during an Invasion. If you cannot afford a Drop Ship, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand these rights?" -
"Look, up in the sky, it's a Gold Bricker, it's an Arachnos Flier, it's a Rikti Mothership!"
"With great Rikti comes great invasions."
"Rikti smash!!!!"
"I got a Hami-o!"
"I got a Purple Recipe!!"
"I got a Rikti Monkey."
"There's...a Rikti...on the wing!" -

They don't have to remove the buildings from the starter zones. They can expand the Arson event that already exists in Steel Canyon. That way new players can enjoy trying to stop Hellions from blowing up the AE buildings in Atlas and Galaxy. They can also help the Hellions blow up the one in Mercy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Get as inventive as you want, the buildings aren't going anywhere because they're not interested in deterring new players from using AE.
=)
[/ QUOTE ]I agree that they won't remove buildings nor will they nerf rewards.
That is why they should have contacts pop up at appropriate levels directing players to other zones like the Detective/Broker at level 5, University Tutorial at level 10 and Icon/Facemaker at level 20 and so on. The curious new players will venture out into the rest of the game to see what is there.
If other new players pay no attention to what else is out there even with the prompts, that is their choice. -
Thank you, I will have to check that out when I get home.

I have only been playing off and on for a total time of about 10 months. Maybe there is something that I am not seeing, but if not, this would be handy to have for players with sever altitus.
I suggest a Character Note system (like the notes you can place on other players). Sometimes, I have a character that I have a specific plan of action for build, what I want to do with it or whatever, but get distracted by friends or SG events and play with another character to play with them.
So by the time I get to the character I was playing but set aside for a while, I look at the character and see some recipes that I haven't crafted and wonder if I was saving them for when I had the influence/salvage to craft them or was going to sell them but didn't have time or what was I going to do with them.
It would be nice to even have a note stating, "Left salvage in Vault." I've come back to a character, see a recipe, play a bit so I can buy salvage if it don't drop, visit Vault later and see salvage sitting there, mocking me. Yes, I know, I should visit Vault first, but stuff happens, ya know? -

Now since I haven't started a new character since I14 dropped it was news to me (or so I'm told, still haven't made a new character since I14) that the contact for the AE tutorial pops up when you first zone in from the new character tutorial, bumping your normal first contact off of your nav bar as the waypoint. This leads new players who don't know better straight to the AE building.

I made an alt after the magic pack came out. I can't remember if that was before or after i14 dropped. At any rate they were level 3 when I zoned in a couple days ago, when I hit 5 - the MA/AE contact popped up and told me to go talk to him in Atlas. I was in Kings Row heading to get my police scanner.
It was kind of annoying.
I'm for that contact not popping up until level 50. If you know to go there otherwise, that's fine, but why send a level 5 to the MA/AE? It's just silly. Isn't the broadcast spam in the low level zones bad enough?
[/ QUOTE ]
That is why a contact popup for the police scanner/newspaper needs to generate at the same time as the Mission Architect contact popup. -
I did three Sister Psyche TF's yesterday with three different toons. First two only took a little over two hours, third one took 3 hours and 13 minutes. We were enjoying ourselves with the XP and didn't feel a need to rush through the TF.

Don't they read?

Okay I agree that this is a super-sad thing and wish it would end, but I normally don't feel like posting in anything regarding AE.
But this quote makes me feel I should bring up alternative learning styles.
Some people learn by looking through and experiencing whatever is given to them- so they go through and understand the tutorials, and often learn a lot about the overall game in the process. However, the AE contact popup points that type of learner straight to the AE, which can easily drown out the rest of the game, since it's your very first contact popup window.
Some people learn a game by extensively researching it before ever playing. They'll know all about the game and are not what this discussion is about.
Some people learn through interaction with other humans. With Atlas Park being the big AE hotspot, these people can VERY easily miss out on the entire rest of the game; and may never know it exists.
There are other basic learning styles, sure, but just look at that! It'd be nice if new players didn't have like a 65% chance of being shunted to AE without ever learning about the game ever.
I learned this game via people before AE and that worked great. if I were startin today? Probably wouldn't work out as well.

This is why I suggest that they have other contacts popup at level appropriate points to funnel players to those locations.
Examples would be Detective/Broker at level 5, College Tutorial at level 10, Icon/Facemaker at level 20, Cape mission at level 20 and so on. The curious new players will go check out what is happening with these contacts.
Another way to try and help (annoying as it is to do so), is to go to Atlas Park to broadcast your team forming. I ran a Sister Psyche TF on Virtue yesterday and broadcast in Atlas and got 4 members who jumped on the team within a matter of 2 minutes. The other 3 members came from Virtuebadges09. -
The OP is a poster child for my current suggestion I keep touting.
At level 5, Detective/Broker appears as a contact. At level 10, the College Dean appears as a contact. At level 20+, the costume shops appear as contacts.
Hopefully, this will generate enough curiousity amongst some of the AE Babies to go out in the rest of the game world and explore a bit. -
You are probably better off just running the Snaptooth mission, I don't think that one can be dropped. Just advertise on your server channels to form a team, I'm sure you can find someone who wants to get the badge or costume rewards from that mission for a specific toon.
-
As I have posted in the Suggestion topic.
When you ding level 5, have a Detective/Broker pop up as a contact like the Mission Architect advising the player of options open to them (i.e. get a radio/paper to do missions).
When you ding level 10, have the College Dean from the university pop up as a contact for his Enhancement Tutorial arc.
When you ding level 20, have Icon/Facemaker pop up as a contact asking for help. Have City Rep or Kalinda/Burke pop up with the Cape Mission as well.
When you ding level 30 & 40, have Icon/Facemaker ask help again.
Part of the problem is the players who have only played AE Missions have no clue about the rest of the game. The few that do venture out of AE with high level characters and have no clue how different the rest of the game is from AE are surprised by it.
I was on a team with an apparently AE Baby (from the badges I saw), who started a radio mission that was too high a level and too high a difficulty for the team that resulted in multiple teamwipes.
After the team leader finally reduced the difficulty, the team leader had no clue that the mission had to be reset and couldn't figure out how to reset the mission, even with helpful suggestions from other team members of what alternate mission to pick to switch missions. After about 10 minutes of this, they finally figured out how to switch missions, but didn't figure out how to switch back, they just said, "Sorry, new mission up" and took off to new mission.
Providing contacts in the rest of the game will show that there is more to COH than AE, and those who are curious, will venture out at various levels to check it out. -
What I found fun to do early on was use Superjump to max jump height, then kick in the Jump Pack from GVE Edition. I would hit the glass ceiling and fall all the way back down and lose all but a few hit points.
Ahhhh, the weird fun you have when you are bored... -
It's not the players that only stay at AE that is the problem, it's the players that get away with a level 50 and don't know basic game mechanics in the rest of the non-AE game content that is the problem.
-
You know what, the first Detective/Broker at level 5 would also be an excellent choice.
Perhaps Serge could put out a request for help at level 20 to open the costume slot. I always found it kind of odd that he need help, but wouldn't get it unless you went to him first.
Some of these unlockable contacts would make for great "pull new players out of AE" so they can experience what else is out there in the game.
It would also be a nice reminder for vets. I came across an alt of mine that was level 29 and I realized I hadn't done the costume slot or cape missions yet. -
I got a great chuckle when my main toon, Kryhavoc, was exploring and came across the badge called Crey Havoc. The similarity was just too cool.

I kinda like the Valley of Lag, it gives me a reason to recite my newest prayer.
"Yea, tho I walk into the Valley of Lag, I shall fear no Disconnect!" -
I've recently read through the AE thread that is currently the hot topic in Player Questions and one of the items brought up was the lack of knowledge of enhancements and crafting.
Granted, as soon as you zone into Steel Canyon or Cap Au Diable, the College Dean pops up as a contact, but since several new players aren't even leaving Atlas Park or Mercy Island, they may not be aware of that tutorial and the information it provides regarding enhancements and crafting them.
My suggestion is that when a character reaches level 10, the appropriate College Dean appears as a contact, just like the Mission Architect tutorial pops up when you reach level 5.
Perhaps this will prompt some of the AE Babies to leave their safe zones and experience some the other part of the game that they may not even know exists. -

My personal idea, is to cap the amount of xp earned in ANY one mission (AE, TF, radio, whatever) to one level's worth. You still get inf, prestige and what not once you hit the xp cap. That way you have to play at least 50 missions in order to ding 50. This cuts into PL'ing across the board but doesn't stop it.

This would be an example of cutting off one's nose to spite their face. I'd rather see solutions that don't f*** over everyone else too.
[/ QUOTE ]
I admit to being ignorant on this, but are there any ways to get more than one level in a single mission without exploiting the system in one way or another?
[/ QUOTE ]
Recently (before I15), I had a character who leveled twice on a Skyway City Mayhem mission. It was set at Level 5 and we had a full team of 8. With all the Longbow ambushes and clearing the map, it was possible to do so. Of course, it helped that I was close to leveling before we entered the mission. -
Just played Sibling Rivalry. I would judge it as good as some of the other published story arcs in the regular game.

Wow...just wow!
I love the concept! Looks ok to me. Love how you got the 70's polyester vibe going there, now if you could get a couple gold chains hanging around his neck, he would be perfect! -
Now, if I could get a toon to look like a fish, I might be tempted to name it Habanero Sushi.
