  1. Once again, I will reiterate that I've seen procs go off in less then 10 second intervals in a toggle power (hence my claim "per tick"). Your explanation makes a certain amount of sense with 5 seconds being as subjective as it is without a stop watch, but does it also apply to the +end proc for Performance Shifter? Because I have most definitely seen that chain together as much as three times in 10 seconds.

It would not be the first time in this game that conventional wisdom has been wrong (even from a dev source).

Having said that, using Gaussian's in Invincibility makes a certain amount of sense due to the fact that the Tanker will be running it anyway (consider it a bonus). Actually getting a power specifically to slot Gaussian's such as Focused Accuracy, exceeds the point of diminishing returns in my estimation. Except for the set bonus (and Gaussian's 6 slot bonus is very attractive) I couldn't see slotting Chance for Build Up in a click power just for the purpose of having it (again point of diminishing returns).
  2. Yes, Shield/DM is a good choice. Mine is at L24 currently and is starting to really shine.

    Tanker Offense?

Sarrate: Your chart is inaccurate. EQ reached over 500,000 in 2001, and as far as I know (meaning I've never heard of a press release to the contrary) FFXI never surpassed EQ's prime. Also, with regards to EQ vs. EQ2, you do realize you're talking about MMOs that are either over or just under a decade in existence?

Since EQ2 has been the only MMO sequel to another MMO, I can see why you would judge sequels as being "bad" however keep in mind that an MMO should be judged on its own merits rather than on what the next one has done. EQ2 "failed" to exceed EQ for a number of reasons which are too numerous and not salient to the point at hand, but one of those reason was *not* because it was a sequel.

CoH (and any MMO) that stands the test of time, needs to continually update. At some point, it needs to be rewritten. From a business model perspective it makes more financial sense to do this as a new release.

Incidentally if CoH2 were ever made, allowing existing characters from CoH to be imported into the new game would excise much of the debate of split populations, not to mention guarantee your new release a solid player base at release. Something I think EQ2 should have done has the game been approached differently.

*EDIT* I forgot to include Asheron's Call 2 as another MMO sequel, but again it failed due to being a bad game, rather than being a sequel.

Also, generally speaking, an MMO (whether it be a sequeal or not) will generally have its own dev team, rather than drawing from current resources. While *some* resources may be shared, this is usually on the concept level (the "vision") rather then on the dev level. Verant/Sony produced three expansions for EQ in the time they were developing EQ2 for instance.
  4. I'd probably recommend grabbing Resist Physical Damage to cap S/L resists (since it is the most common damage type).

Keep in mind that using Pyre on an Inv/SS build will make it every endurance intensive (even without running Tough and Weave at the time) so plan to slot a lot for IO recovery bonuses.

If you get caught short for slots I'd recommend not slotting Boxing and Char.

    Otherwise looks good.

This isn't accurate. My Gaussians has ticked twice in a row on occasion in less then 10 seconds in the past (at least according to my power meters) on three different characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have understood that procs like this check every 10 seconds. I have heard that Gaussian's proc works this way from more than one person, so if it's not working that way, that's going to be news to more than a few people.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It may very well have been quoted as working that way but it doesn't appear to. Of course if the power meters aren't accurate in timing then I could very well wrong as well (either are certainly a possibility with this game).

None of my toons with Performance Shifter: +end work like that either ... I often get consecutive procs with that as well (much more often but that's to be expected with the difference in percentages).

To be fair though, I didn't time these with a watch ... this is just based on observations of rapid fire procs while I was determining what I was getting out of my stats and when. I have never seen Gaussian's stack on itself for instance.

    Tanker Offense?

    [ QUOTE ]

Just a warning on CO, this limited system you are complaining about was designed by the same people making CO. Don't be surprised when you can't make your superman clone there either.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This was the only point I was trying to make about CO ... it's an MMO being balanced as an MMO.

    Tanker Offense?

J_B: As many many many people have explained to you in a variety of ways, Tankers can't be balanced to your vision within a vacuum, no matter how much you post to the contrary.

Incidentally, of what I know of CO, it will not be the life changing event that you think it will. You may want to examine playing console hero games, as they approach closer to what you're asking for.

Activated I believe when in a click based power.

If you run it in a toggle then it checks every tick (i.e. Invincibility, Focused Accuracy, etc ...).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Incorrect.

In a toggle power, the power will check to proc every 10 seconds, not every tick. On average, a chance for build-up Gaussian's proc would go off every 3 minutes and 20 seconds, if I recall correctly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This isn't accurate. My Gaussians has ticked twice in a row on occasion in less then 10 seconds in the past (at least according to my power meters) on three different characters.

Also your statistics aren't correct ... try to base an average on a percentage chance is the same as being dismayed when you don't win the lottery even though you statistically bought enough tickets to. Consequently I rarely go without a proc (when I'm metering) within 90 seconds.

Is there a Deffensive build out there for a tank that can be soft capped. If so can someone please post it Io'd out if possible.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Can I respectfully suggest you actually play the game first before worrying about the roughest toughest Tanker you can make?

You might find that all the pretty little baubles aren't actually necessary and that the toughest tank isn't necessarily the funnest to play.

    Just a thought.
  10. Slot your attacks with IO sets and the Endurance issues disappear entirely.

I run 8 toggles including Tough, Weave and Focused Accuracy (not slotted for endurance) and I have no end probs at all. I also run Hasten and my global recharge is 35% currently.

The only modification I made to my end was to add a 4th slot in Stamina and put PS: +end in it.

P.S. - All my attacks are slotted with Crushing Impacts.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Why does RttC have such a low taunt value compared to the other auras? Is this intentional?

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is what happens when number crunchers try to play to theme.

But honestly, the lower taunt in RTTC doesn't really make a noticeable difference unless you plan on washing your car while auto-following the Scrapper.
  12. I would swap Mind Over Body and Taunt in where you take them.

I would go with Focused Accuracy over Conserve Power (you don't need it on a WP Tanker) so you can slot Gaussian's: Chance for Build Up in it.

You have the Numina's and Miracle rares (and Performance Shifter?) in there. You don't need any of those (especially since you elected not to take Hasten) ... you will never see the middle of your endurance bar) and they would probably serve another of your characters better. That's including SoW crashes.

I would take Hurl over Laser Beam Eyes (more damage) unless you're really just trying for a Superman knockoff.

Worry less about slotting for +recovery in set bonuses and more for +regen and +health.

    Otherwise you're looking good.
  13. Activated I believe when in a click based power.

If you run it in a toggle then it checks every tick (i.e. Invincibility, Focused Accuracy, etc ...).

    Tanker Offense?

While I agree with you on this issue, MMO direction and "vision" (i.e. terms of balancing amongst other things) should not be a collaborative effort with the player base. The more the collaboration, the more diluted the original "vision" will become.

While in some cases this can be good, in most cases you end up with muddied waters.

One of the biggest issues with CoH from its inception was that the original "vision" was to realize a video game format of the 80s comic book popularity. The idea to use the MMO model was purely a business decision (recurring income).

The unfortunate part here was that at some point just before/after release, it was decided that since this was an MMO it should be "balanced" like other MMOs which I think was a very faulty choice. So what the original dev team took the screaming hordes of players' comments as "bugs" that needed to be addressed, really should have spearheaded a new direction for MMOs (particularly this one) that catered to a different crowd rather then those who played EQ or DAoC at the time.

CoH has always been considered "casual friendly" but it wasn't the direction they (the business model) was shooting for originally.

    Hindsight being 20/20 n all.

    6-slot Health:

Numina +Regen/Recovery, Numina Heal, Numina Heal/End
    Miracle +Recovery, Miracle Heal
    Regenerative Tissue +Regen

    [/ QUOTE ]

This if you have the slots to spare.

Otherwise don't worry about it and just stick the uniques in the 3 slots you probably have.
  16. Depends the primary. For Fire/Ice, Ice Patch is fairly important for Burn.

In larger groups later on you will generally have a Controller that can AOE control the mobs, or another toon with similar abilities that will render Ice Patch rarely used (as Aett noted).
  17. In addition to the taunt aura mentioned and Taunt itself, you also have the Gauntlet inherent (punchvoke) that does a taunt-effect with a toHit check (unenhanceable).

With any of those, an active Tanker can maintain agro. With any two it's a cake walk. With all three, Stephen Hawking could hold agro while sleeping.

War Mace is excellent ... I have an SD/WM Tanker and he does very well thus far (bit end heavy but easily accomodated for).

    WP/FIRE/PYRE

Justice_Bringer: The build he posted was a wish list. Also he is the OP.

And no offense dude, but that build is more horrible then Federation's wish list slotting. At least his build would help contribute to the speed with which the group could actually get through the farm.
  19. Did you leave a suggestion in the suggestion box?

Not really. we could turn it into a BBQ thread, since there really hasn't been a Taunt debate in a while.

Or we could threadjack it into a Taunt debate, and then threadjack THAT into a BBQ thread.

I prefer a nice rich BBQ sauce with a hint of garlic and a healthy dose of Sarachi sauce mixed in for a nice bite.

    WP/FIRE/PYRE

Yeah I know why its expensive ... just dont why you have half that stuff in there.

WP Tanker shouldnt need the Numina or Miracle rares (I don't even come close to denting my end bar). But if you got the money hey who am I to say anything

The endurance mechanic is simply broken, especially at lower levels.

The endurance mechanic is simply broken, especially at lower levels. The worst part of the endurance mechanic is that the game shows its worst face to new players and their characters. Nor does anything in-game let them know that they must forbear from exploring the primary and secondary they chose in order to have Stamina at level 20.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is exactly why I am glad that I have several free respecs to burn so that I can explore the powerset then respec into Stamina around SO range. The Devs should add "Make sure you try out the Fitness Pool and take Stamina if you really want to enjoy the game" to that first power pool popup window.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lol I was wondering if I was the only person who did that (respec into Stamina just so I could try out powers earlier).

If they stuck up a warning sign every time you came to a point in the game where you should be doing/taking something that's just not patently obvious this game would be worse then cruising porn sites without a popup blocker.
