Big congratulations to Lightning Sparkle (Cold Spark) who dinged 50 tonight rescuing Statesman.

Many Grats mate
A decent picture of your ding here

Thank you all. This was one of my more fun toons, running out of ideas quickly now

Massive Grats to my friend DC on his 5th lvl 50!
It's been a long road, and he's tasted it more than a few times.....but got there in the end. Heres to the next one! -
On my /nrg dominator i slotted my aoe holds for 3 acc and used powerboost. I don't think i could justify the endurance drain from the leadership toggles except for the above mentioned RSF, which would likely be a very specific respec build.
-
It has mez protection but no kb or immobilise res. Hense why almost all fire tanks go for leaping (though i'm consistently suprised by the number of fire tanks i see with no kb res)
I'd say for solo healing flames will be more than sufficient. Having no def, aid self will be annoying to use, and i doubt you'd have powerpicks/slots spare. Fighting pool for tough would be more useful. Also hasten to get a really good recharge on HF. -
I shall endeavor to be slightly more helpful...
Fire/Dark will have huge AoE damage and good mitigation if you take all the AoEs/Auras, but end use will also be huge. I've seen it played very successfully but if running out of end annoys you alot then it might not be for you.
Dark/Fire is a very nice combination, 2 self heals and 2 end recovery powers. Dark melee has some good damage mitigation, especially if you solo against small spawns, but not the greatest damage.
You don't say how your going to play it so i'd say fire/dark for a team brute with some end buffs and dark/fire for smaller team/solo play.

See this is where your going wrong bru, i don't actually reformat the base, i just pass on instructions and offer emotional support before getting stuck in with the decorations and shiny bits.
Not that i'm afraid to get my hands dirty of course, i just see myself in more of a....supervisory role...yes thats it... -
Just a heads up guys. Sparks and myself have worked out a new base layout which he's implementing today. This means the base will be out of action for a few hours. Fingers crossed it works out as good as it looks on paper.

You don't say what lvl you are now but for a new player without any rich alts the best time to respec would be at 22 if you have one so you can save money by selling any old enhancements you have. If you don't have a free respec then 24 is your first opportunity to do the respec trial and change your toon. Don't panic though CJ is a perfectly fine power even if you dont want leaping pool for the long run. You won't have gimped your character and i'd recommend waiting, respecs can be hard to come by.
For an AR/Dev you get cloaking device in the secondary, so no need to get stealth (think CD has the benefit of not having a speed penalty but i'm not sure). I'm not even sure if you can run both at once but i might be wrong, alot of stealth powers dont stack. Superspeed does though so personally i'd go for hasten and SS as a travel power to stack with cloaking device to make you invisible. You might want to drop the grenade in a respec at some point, i've not heard good things about it though if it works for you then fire away.
Basically just take what fits your concept, the best way to judge a power is to try it after all. You cant really "gimp" yourself unless you take lots of pointless pool powers. Try to get a travel power in at 14 and stamina at 20 as AR is not end friendly would be my advice.
Welcome to CoH, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. -
So sad to see the violators go down. Just goes to show how much things have changed in the game in the last few months that such a powerful VG is now empty. Have faith though, DVS came back after over 6 months of inactivity, so i wouldn't count the violators entirely dead just yet.
Goes without saying any ex-violators are more than welcome in DVS too, theres so few of us now we have to stick together.

Good day all. It is with great pleasure that i announce the ressurection of DVS.
It's been dormant for a while now, we're low on members, low on prestige and generally just a bit low. But fear ye not!! The core members are all back, theres a new administration, new ideas and new committment.
There are now 4 leaders of DVS. DC, Cold Spark, Mister and myself. The base is once again fully operational, although it needs a damn good makeover (luckily this is one part i'm good at).
First order of business is to try to get a good player base going outside of our core members, so DVS is now officially recruiting. When we have a few new members we will be running SFs, respecs, RSFs and PvP events (hopefully raids with our good friends E.V.I.L or dark lords).
I have kicked everyone who hasn't logged on in the last 100 days, which unfortunately turned out to be about 3/4 of the VGIf anyone wants to come back though please just send a tell and we'll get you reinvited quick-sharp.
Please send tells ingame to @Kitty_Hellfire, DC, Mister or Cold Spark.
It's good to be back.

Gratsies Okty. I'm putting my name down now to be present for the next one

i shall be playing her in a team of blappers, emps and kheldians so i wont be that interested in damage. Were i to solo i would slot up terrify and get mass hyp for setting up containment, but then i'd also not pick bubbles
.
I used TK at lvl 12 on my dom and didn't find it that bad. Can't do anything else while running it but if you get a corner or one of those enclosed rooms in indoor maps it can completely supress a mob. Also good for very quickly holding a boss, as you can drop it after the second dominate to save end.
I would indeed like both forcebolt and levitate in earlier but not much room to squeeze them in. perhaps lev at 28 and put detention back to 35, though part of me want to see how annoying it is in sirens
Figured force bubble for pvp purposes and it's also handy in situations like the reactor trial and for closing off doorways. I had breif experience with it (i had a bubble def to lvl 40) but it was back when it still had an enormous end cost so i didnt really explore it's possibilities. If i still dont like it i'll spec it out
EDIT: I think anything with bubbles is unusual these days, see precious few of them unfortunately. A few bubbles MMs out there but not many heroes (can think of one i know offhand). I swore i'd never play another bubbler after my much loved FF defender got roayally shafted by all the nerfs but i'm giving it a second chance a year on, perhaps my concept will ease the pain.
-
Dark is usually a good choice, however due to the cones it can bring alot of agro, which a buffing emp wouldn't want. I'd stick to ST attacks if thats your playstyle. Psi has lots of utility as does sonic, which has a great sleep cone and ST stun.
-
Whilst i hate to bump my own post, does noone out there have a Mind/FF controller? Can't say i've seen many tbh.
-
I'd imagine it to be a very good combo. I've got an ice/cold and played a sonic blaster up to lvl 30 so i know both sets, although independently.
/cold can struggle solo (if thats your thing) with it's lack of a -tohit power or self heal. Sonic is imho the best solo set as you get the fantastic sirens song and screech. You get a nice stealth power in the secondary, that with SS is full invis, meaning you can get in close and line up your cone sleep, then take a mob down one at a time, using screech on a ST before attacking.
I found the animation times a bit tiresome in Sonic, but that should compliment /cold well as it has nice fast activation times. You also get potentially 3 AoE -res powers in sirens, howl and sleet. I would imagine sirens, snowstorm, heatloss, sleet then howl would take down a group very swiftly. It certainly works wonders with ice primary, it just lacks the ability to control the whole mob before laying down debuffs.
If you mainly team then the sheilds from /cold are excellent, as is frostwork. You would have a hard time using sirens in a team though, so you lose imo the best part of sonic attack there. Still, all the -res stacks and you would be lethal against EB/AVs.
MY biggest tip would be stick it out with cold domination. It's a late blooming set that can feel decidedly underpowered to start with when you compare it to dark or rad (just for the personal damage mitigation), but the last 2 powers are absolute gold and make the set. My ice/cold was stuck at lvl 34 for ages, but once i got sleet it completely rejuvenated my interest in the toon and now she's one of my favourites to play. -

Have done both sets before but not together. I love the number of ST controls in mind but i got bored of bubbles on a previous toon so i've taken quite alot of the powers to see if i can have some more fun with it. Primarily PvE with a casual interest in PvP. -
According to my planner you get a 12.5% acc bonus in nova form. This goes up to nearly 20% when 3 slotted, so just like tactics iirc. I think you would still need at least 1 acc in each attack.
-
Good attempt at a base raid guys, nice to see lots of people turn up. Was a bit of a bust for me as i DCed every time i tried to get into the base and i never actually got to fight anyone
Definately up for more EVIL teamage and SFs, gotta get my corrupter to 45 for the rsf, Kitty already has plenty of HOs -
i wouldn't take firecages on a dom for two reasons mainly. 1) the temptation is to spam it if you have it, and it draws ALOT of agro as it will invariably hit things your controls havent and 2) it costs alot of end. I'd rather use flashfire and stay in melee with hotfeet, but it's personal preference. I'd take hotfeet regardless so it would save a power choice to use one power instead of 2.
I have taken the aoe immob on my plant/thorn though as it is handy to use with seeds of confusion to keep them tightly bunched and it's ticks of low dam mean you get xp for everything even if they defeat each other.
Also, the main use for firecages for me is to quickly set up containment, not something that applies to doms. -
Assuming it's just like the storm summoning tornado you could slot it for -def. whack tornado on someone in pvp and it'll bypass all but the most powerful defensive powers.
For PvE though i'd say a mixture of dam, rec and stun. best to use with an immob to get the most out of the damage. -
Dark for sure. It does have a hold yes but it's not an essential. Slot tar patch with a couple of slows and you can use ignight perfectly well. On my dark/dark i like to lay tarpatch on a corner and pull lots of mobs with DN, then use my cone attacks to whittle them down. Should imaging this would work even better with AR.
Kitty's top tip for the day: slot 2 acc debuffs in FS, you really notice the difference. -
Fire control i can help on, the unmissable powers in the set are char, flashfire and fire imps. Cinders you could skip but i dont recommend it. I love it on my fire/kin but then i get a far better recharge on it. Also i'd defo get smoke, i find it useful on my controller and i can imagine it would be even more so on a dominator.
Fire/fire is probably the most damaging combination for PvE so tbh i'd go for max damage. The high damage offsets the relative lack of control it has compared to mind or ice etc. If you team exclusively and dont care about damage then a different primary would suit you far better.
Also, dominators are made to attack, to build dom, so you may as well maximise the damage you put out.
It's also a high agro set so i suppose you could stick to ST attacks if you are worried about agro, and skip hotfeet.
From what i gather the good fire assault powers (ST) are fireblast, incinerate (think thats the melee attack name) and blaze. Fire really shines at AoE damage though so i think if you neglected this you would really be missing the point of the sets.
EDIT: sry just read you wanted slotting advice, so in general you cant go wrong with 2 acc, 2 mez, 2 recharge in all controls and 2 acc, 3 dam, 1 end redux (with hasten) in all attacks. Imps could prolly use 2 accuracy now they are a lvl lower than the caster, and 3 damage of course. Smoke is fine with 1 tohit debuff and if you choose hotfeet, 3 end 3 dam does the trick.
If you have trouble building dom (you wont) you can always slot up you lowest teir attack for acc and recharge and spam it. Saying that you get flares, so i'd just take that out of your powertray -
Right i'm enjoying my Sonic/nrg so much i've decided to roll another blapper. I tried elec/elec but i wasn't happy with the complete lack of a ST ranged attack chain so i rerolled as ice/elec.
I've done ice before so no worries there, but i've not done /elec and have no experience of the 2 sets together. Lots of great powers, can just about fit everything in but running a bit low on slots, so cant invest much in an epic.
Any general advice would be much appreciated. I know that freeze ray is great but whats shocking grasp like? It does ok damage by the looks of it but is VERY expensive and would probably want to be slotted for hold? is shocking bolt from the elec epic better?
Ta in advance,
Kitty
