  1. Holding my breath for that one then, rage crash really does hurt on a def toon.

The OP made no reference to either PvP or farming so i shall assume neither and that this is a PvE toon, either solo or teamed. Personally I feel that elec is more fun as a secondary as SR is very passive. Elec is better earlier on but I guess with some +def from IO sets SR will be the tougher later on (esp against nasty dirty longbow nullies that eat my ss/elec for breakfast). It also has a better tier 9 - so it's swings and roundabouts really. There's probably more room for power pools in Elec too, as SR is a VERY tight build.

If you want something that has a little of both, go willpower, I can't stomach it personally but it's certainly very strong.
  2. I've played both sets (though not together) and i'd say this is a very good guide, well done.

I would suggest that you seek treatment for your Proc addiction perhaps

As an update i've now deleted my Stormie , didn't like the powers for whatever reason.

Playing my Empath again and glad i didn't delete her. With Quicksand,Stalagmites and Earthquake now i find i've plent of time to cast these then get on with any healing thats needed.

Hoping come RA time if i 3 slot recharges and with my Hasten i might not need the Swift/Health/Stamina combo. I can't bear the thought of sacrificing 3 of my current powers just for Stamina!.

Is that possible you reckon or is Stamina a must?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Personally I wouldn't.

When RA is up, no you don't need stamina at all, in fact I think RA could probably keep a stam-less spines/dark scrapper going full out! But it's on a long recharge, and some of the Earth powers in particular are relatively end heavy (not massively but I wouldn't want to waste slots on end reduction). As a controller you don't get the benefit of vigilance either and I personally wouldn't want to get stuck with an empty endurance bar when the *&@% hits the fan.
  4. No login errors on the first attempt, but I have been getting lost mapserver A LOT in the last few weeks. When this happens i "quit to login" and then it usually takes a few tries to get back in, with the usual "cannot connect to blah blah" message.

This usually happens most in the first hour of gameplay and at odd times, like just standing outside a mission door not doing anything. Getting really quite irritating now.

I'm in the South West UK on fast.co.uk broadband.

    New Corruptor

pretty much anything/rad would work, depends what you want to do with it.

Fire is the best mob clearer with it's AoE damage, dark is great for keeping mobs in place within your debuffs and is still pretty good for AoE damage (well cone really) and sonic would be best for soloing as you can sleep whole mobs with sirens and then apply the debuffs.
  6. If your looking for a toon for solo, PvE and PvP play then i'd probably have to recommend a ill/rad controller. Illusion is one of the better PvP sets and solo's well due to the pets and the nasty debuffs.

If your dead set on a defender, then certainly a choice of rad/dark/storm primaries would be my choice, with a high damage ST set like sonic or psy.
  7. If your on union and struggling to find a decent team, give me a shout @Kitty_Hellfire, sure we can squeeze you in. Assuming your lower than 30 we always have sk slots.

  9. Heh I know many people who would keel over laughing at me giving PvP advice! But I have done quite a bit of it (for me) on my ill/storm. Take this all with a pinch of salt;

I found my most useful powers were - Sup invis, teleport, hurricane, freezing rain, snow storm and spectral terror.

It depends on how you want to PvP - do you want to hunt down prey or provide defence/support to a team? If it's the former you can do this easiest (in my experience) with telport and invisibility, then just land right on your target and drop everything on them or try to ground them with snowstorm.

It's difficult to get right and the trick is always dealing enough damage to kill your target before they escape. If it's a squishy and you get the drop on them then it's usually pretty easy to take them out, if not then it's more difficult. If they have any slow res then ur screwed, and toons with repel/kb res can also be a pain.

Tornado is massively useful in PvP too, obviously not for sirens but once you get it it is great for higher lvl zones.

Another reason I like teleport is for escapes. on the rare occassions someone can get through your hurricane (ranged blasters/mezzers or toons with massive to-hit buffs) it can get you out of trouble quickly.

Also don't be suprised if you look under your hurricane and see a bunch of other heroes lurking around...stormies attract them like flies in PvP

My only other advice would be to pick your fights and know when you've bitten off more than you can chew. If your fighting a melee toon that you can't scratch and they pop BU or seem to be able to hit you, get out of there asap and choose someone else to terrorise
  10. Cant comment so much on the ninjas side but ive played TA to 50 on a defender and noted the following suggestions for your build;

    * I would slot glue arrow 3 recharge 3 slow so it's back more often, I haven't found the range to be an issue.
    * I'm not sure 3 end in both your upgrades will be needed if your also getting stamina. TA is an end light set except for the -recov on EM arrow (which I note you dont have - assuming MMs get it, it's a very very very good power) so i'd be tempted to try a stam-free build. I think 2 end would be adequate, and maybe a recharge or 2 in your second upgrade.
    * I'd agree with the extra acc in your pets, particularly genin, as they spawn at lower levels the more you get. Also not sure of the need for the -def and -tohit in Jounin, I would think acc and dam would be the main focus (think about a pet IO set?)
    * the attacks are entirely personal choice - but they will drain end more than anything else (bar summoning) so I would get some end redux in them if you plan to use them a lot.
    * I wouldn't put sleep in poison gas, it's sleep component is unreliable at best. I believe I left mine at 1 rec or end and it's fine.
    * I would defo consider a hold set (even a basic cheap one) for ice arrow to get some -end and +rec in there.
    * You could get away with just 2 recharge in disruption arrow, I don't beleive the third adds much to it's recharge.
    * Personally i'd go 3 recharge 3 damage in oil slick. You have a fully slotted glue for the slow and slick does some mean damage fully slotted (and I assume Oni will light it fine as your magic origin and i'm not sure if your inherant attack will light it)
    * I would think 2 end in assault would be fine (esp with stam)

    Hope that helps some

  11. Hi there, I have a lvl 50 ill/storm and have dabbled in pvp.

Main thing that stands out to me is that you have 2 travel powers, thunderclap and yet no hurricane.

Thunderclap is pretty much awful in PvE (imo) and perfectly useless in PvP. If you only change one thing in your build I would defo swap that for hurricane, it is your main survival toon in PvP (as well as your invisibility). Also for PvP, rather than hasten and SS, I would perhaps think about aid self instead. You don't need SS for the stacking stealth as you already have superior invis and steamy mist - which I also skipped due to end issues.

I also found that teleport works incredibly well for a stormy in PvP. nothing quite as satisfying as landing right on top of someone with hurricane on and then dropping all your pets, and it's also the best escape power. Which also reminds me - wheres spectral terror? Fear resist is rare (not so much as it used to be) in PvP, and this power is great, and it's tohit debuff stacks with your hurricane too.
  12. Yeah I noticed that bit. At the moment i'm levelling my thugs/traps in a team a thugs/dark and a necro/poison and between us our pets are looking to be quite safe except poor Mr. Zombie who's pets don't get any benefit

It is another good reason for me not to take leadership though, for which i'm thankful
  13. Thanks JD, i'll have to check the exact details of the FFG again I think.

Also have to say i'm dissappointed after getting my enforcer that thier leadership buffs do not affect non-pets, or in fact even other types of pets. I can see that being a tad overpowered but I was under the impression they did

As for seeing me ingame, i'm @Kitty_Hellfire, usually about most evenings for varying lengths
  14. This might be commenting a little late but i'd defo stick with Earth/Emp and see how you like it. I love mine to bits - I always feel like i'm contributing massively to the survivability of a team when I play her, moreso than any of my other support toons. She can't solo for anything, even with Mr. Poo and epic blasts but I find theres more than enough to keep her very busy on teams.

On the matter of striking a balance between controlling and healing...I find if I am proactive with buffs (getting your fort-cycle sorted early on) then I have far more time to control later.

Also do remember that you are a controller first, if it's a choice between laying down an earthquake that might save the whole team or using heal other to save a teammate always do the former first (tough choices and all). Unless of course the teammate is the cornerstone of the team (most often the tank), in which case just use your own best judgement.

also be especially careful using absorb pain with Earth/. It's a marvelous power but I can't count the number of times i'd died after using it with the massive amounts of agro Earth control can generate. No problem with sacrificing myself for the team, but usually if you die they tend to follow in sticky situations anyway

Slight non-sequiter: Mr. Poo is SO much better now since his AI got buffed, he's a half-decent tank now, well done devs.
  15. Ok i've no doubt this has been asked and answered before but I've been unable to find out, so...

Does the Black Scorpian PPP sheild stack with the FFG def from /traps? It was my understanding that it doesn't because the former is typed defence and the latter is positional...but i've been reading a lot of guides for my thugs/traps and they all seem to recommend this sheild for the stacking +def.

    Kind thanks in advance,

    Kitty
  16. As much as it pains me to reply to myself...I forgot to add that annoying feature/bug? where you cant read mission information/storylines because it keeps resetting/going blank everytime someone zones or enters a mission. It's really irritating when it takes 20 attempts to read the mission breif.
  17. Ok just to add my most-wanted QoL changes (pretty much all already mentioned but i'm assuming repetition will strengthen the case)

    1) Ability to select in your buff bar and disable the gfx for all external buffs placed on you. I'm thinking mainly sheilds here. I love fire/cold shields as much as the next person but sometimes they completely ruin the look of your toon. Also there's frequently those annoying people (in the AH normally) who insist on casting unsolicited buffs. This should also apply to AoE buffs like shadowfall and arctic fog.

    2) AH ease-of-use changes;
    * Make text size adjustable, so people with crappy eye-sight like myself don't have to lean to within 2 inches of the screen.
    * Make it an option when selecting a recipe for it to automatically bring up the required salvage - not just for the added efficiency of it but so your less likely to buy a recipe without realising one of the salvage peices costs 20 mil.

    3) The idea of a match-maker option for team selection/search sounds brilliant to me.

    4) Make global chat channels colour change option a global change to that account so it doesn't reset itself and you don't have to reapply it to each toon.

    Just my 2cents worth.

    Pointlessness

I like most of these ideas, it would add something a little different to zones that you know like the back of your hand. More interaction from citizens/npcs would certainly feel more realistic too.

The natural disasters part I particularly like, the idea of acid rain, quakes, tornado's etc would be quite cool.

    lol....they come in the night!

My vote goes towards the happy slap power personally.

My suggestion would be a farmer-repel power. When someone sends you a blind invite to increase mob sizes on thier farming mission they instantly get kicked from thier own team and the lvl 2 defender who's been afk for the past hour is given the star
  20. Good day all,

Quick question...is will domination supposed to do less damage than mental blast or tk blast? At first i thought it was just the stacking defiance boost affecting it but no matter which way I try it it does less damage than my other attacks. Being a higher tier power one would expect it to do greater damage.

I have a psi blast defender too and it's certainly the most powerful of those 3.

    Kind thanks in advance,

    Confused Kitty
  21. More grats to DC for Jaded Winter, his latest lvl 50 villain.
