wow sparky you really ARE a weirdo
You see this is why i let you handle all the technical stuff...i was asked by someone earlier if i could just stick an ignighter in that he had made...my answer was "er...no because you see the thing...with the wotsit...well you see it's all about the thingamajig..." etc etc.
End of the day...you stick it in and i'll fiddle with it. er hang on that came out kinda wrong....what i mean to say is i dont know, nor do i care to know how you make these things, just that they look pretty is enough for me
Oh and btw you didn't factor into your little equation my dungeon of ultimate sin....you promised me that sparky and i'm gonna hold you to it or by god there'll be trouble
Ok back on topic (did i even have one?) things look to be coming along nicely, the base looks good and all that we need at the moment is present, so i'm looking forward to the raid tomorrow.
While i'm here i thought i might post a couple of little tips/reminders about base raid tactics;
1) as tempting as it is to hunt down any invader you see to get the kill all up close and personal like (guilty party here) we must remember that the base as a whole is our priority and if several defenders pounce on a raider...we should leave them to it and watch for his sneaky little friends. We used the distraction technique ourselves to great advantage in our one attacking raid so far and i'd hate for our opposition to gank us with it
2) buffing of the turrets by any means we have is a great idea and not to be forgotten. It seems to me that the turrets have a greater perception than we do (just anecdotal evidence) so things like forge on the turrets should help a great deal...plus flaming guns of death just look cool
3) Dont let them taunt youHaving come face to face with several old friends from CoH during raids i can attest to near overwhelming urge to hunt them down and laugh over thier broken and mangled corpse.....but don't let that distract you from his sneaky stalker friend coming up behind you to give yo a quick trip to the medbay
4) it really is far too late for all this strategy stuff (i'm just paranoid about all our lovely stuff getting smasked up in a real raid) so i'm going to bed...ciao!

Ok so as sparky wont be around tonight (that even sounds strange) i was wondering if anyone needs to run a respec.
If so i will put together a team tonight.
Thats all for now...ciao -
Hmmm...interesting
I think i shall reserve jusdement on that until thursday night. We have equipped ourselves fantastically well in all our raids thus far, continuing our unbeaten track record tonight by again successfully defending ourselves.
Clearly this will be our greatest challenge to date but i have every faith in the ability and visciousness of our merry band of cutthroats.
Now to the most important news, the base is finished as of now (2am btw) and all the finishing touches have been added. I have just spent several hours decorating it, tackling numerous (and i mean that) mapserver crashes along the way and i happen to think it looks pretty damn good, but please all go and have a look and give me some feedback. Be honest....but please remember i'm now very tired, and prone to suden outbursts of really quite appalling violence...so be nice

A second SG is always a possibility, but for moment we are concentrating on making DVS the best SG out there (i know my poor litle mind is only capable of so much organisation :P)
Hopefully with some new recruitment measures and some careful control of alt numbers we can turn DVS into an SG where most of the members are on for a good portion of the time (we are very elite after all)

Hello all again,
Just a few notes to add to Cold's earlier post;
Firstly we are still currently tweaking the base in the hopes to make it as defendable as possible. We are doing this by trying to have the rooms with the important and expensive items coming off of the main room (the tp room). This should mean that we will be able to easily see and access the vault, medbay, workshop, raid TP, generator and control room all from the central hub.
The defence turrets will be set up to guard the vault and generator (and hopefully the medbay in future as it seems to get targetted).
Secondly we were hoping to set up some PvP practice sessions. This could take the form of skirmishes in PvP zones or arena battles, in teams and free for all. This will allow us all to practice our tactics for tackling a variety of ATs and powersets as well as enabling the more experiences PvPers to pass on thier knowledge. Please leave a post if this appeals to you, the more interest we get the more likely it is to happen
I realise this all seems a bit serious and all militaryish....but in future we will be taking part in real raids and the stuff that gets smashed will have to be bought again (as it stands now, though this may change).
Thirdly, we are thinking of altering the SG rankings...this will mean far fewer overlords (whats the point of an overlord is everyone is one?) and adding more meaningful lower ranks. Things like an elite rank, and a veteran one for those at lvl 40.....feedback on this please as it's all in the early planning stages at the moment.
Also due to the high demand for spaces we will need to be more considered in our invites. I thought perhaps it would be a good idea to have prospective members join an SG team for kind of a try-out. I'm not thinking a written exam here, just a chance to evaluate their teamwork, control, tactics and battle awareness. By this i dont mean can they take out 3 mobs of +3's with one hand tied behind thier backs (though this is always a plus of course :P) just that they know where they fit into a team and know what they are doing and more importantly what not to do. Hopefully this will lessen the need to kick people later, which no-one likes.
Ok thats all for now...wow i never intend to post so much but it always ends up that way
Cyas all tonight...well in about 5 mins actually -
Well we won of course
It was a bonefide [censored]-whooping too. We won all the raids as both defenders and attackers with (as far as i remember) only one loss in any of the battles.
In fact it started to get a tad embarrassing as we encountered no serious resistance - we outgunned, outfought and outclassed all our enemies, so well done us -
Hello all,
Our own thread! feel the excitement.....okay thats enough of that so down to business.
Just thought that i would add to Colds post by updating people on the current state of the SG.
It would seem that for the time being at least, the founders, Lady Doom and Scarlet Vengeance have left us. This means that we have sort of inherited the SG by default and it is now our responsibility to help keep us going forward to maintain our reputation as the best SG on CoV (i'm not sure we have one but dammit if we dont we should).
Cold and Myself have come up with a number of POSSIBLE ideas to help keep us running smoothly;
we currently have a very high demand for entry and no room (as Cold stated in his post). As well as the 15 day rule we were thinking of trying to keep down the number of alts people can have in the SG. If a member who plays regularly gets to 40 and want to start a new alt then of course they will be more than welcome, but we would like to avoid a situation where players have multiple low lvl alts. Also, if you try a character and lose interest in them (we've al done it) then please remove them from the SG to make room for new members.
Dont forget that we are coalitioned to several other good SGs, so if you are an altaholic (see you at the meeting) try signing up for one of those instead so you can still have access to our wonderful base while freeing up room for new members.
Could all players under lvl 25 and those at lvl 40 please make sure they are playing in SG mode so that we can collect prestige without any infamy loss to you. We know that money is tight in CoV so those between those lvls may operate outside of SG mode. Also remember that the higher lvls in the SG are there to help the lower characters, by LKing (not PLing we arent that kind of SG, everyone must pull their own weight) by giving infamy/advice etc. so feel free to ask for help when you need it.
Ok thats it for now, lets keep this thread alive, this is your place for your views, so dont be shy and tell us what you think, be gentle! ;p -
I just got my dark/dark corrupter to lvl 38 and course picked up my very own mini-me, dark servant. I knew the defender version was perma without slotting with a recharge equal to his duration but i was under the impression that the corrupter version was not.
Imagine my suprise and delight when, right out of the box he works exactly the same as the defender version!
Just thought that incase there any other */dark's out there are confused about this that i would post my own experience.
So far really liking the fella, though i do wish his agro range was a tad shorter, but i'll live with it -
The Lady H is always willing to help, Avs are my speciality you know
Give me a tell @Lady Hellfire and i shall help if available -
Wow, can't beleive it's taken me this long to post, but in my defence i'm a virgin forumite and have only just registered
I was priveledged enough to be there on the night (it was well worth staying up veeery late for) to see you hit 50 kid. I can honestly say that i have never had the pleasure of teaming with a more genuine, good-hearted, funnier or more dependable player.
You were the inspiration for my own lvl 50, who proudly carries the hellfire name, and who also wouldn't be there without you. God knows how many hours you spent exemping with the fledgling lady H despite being well over 35 lvls ahead of her and how many hours you added on to your lvl 50 timer, but i sincerely hope that it was worth the time and proved as much fun for you as it was for me.
It has always struck me as ironic that you are "paragons most depressed blaster" when it is plain to see the number of people who's gaming experience you have enhanced just by being you, just looking at this thread proves that.
So my hat off to you Kid Hellfire, for your 50 lvls of blood, sweat and faceplanting....heres hoping to witness many more
With eternal gratitude and affection,
Your Lady -
My main is a lvl 50 fire/kin controller and is to this day my favorite to play, and the most powerful. I have soloed 9 AV's (ok so 2 i did twice
) and have yet to be beaten in the arena. imho it's the /kin set that makes it uber. Kinetics is about never having to rest and never having to wait, it all about the speed baby!
The keys are;
hasten + siphon speed = virutally perma hasten plus the stacked siphons are nice enough on thier own, not to mention the -spd is a godsend on AVs and bosses
Hover....lets you drop accrob for the KB (the hold res is pretty piffling - all i carry now are Break Free's). Stick in 3 flight speed and use siphon speed and you are very nippy.
Melee. It may sound unsettling for a troller but i play mine as a tank. I get as close to the AV as i can (or just out of his melee range and immob him) so my heals and transfers hit, spam siphon power to lower thier damage and buff mine, and spam transfusion to halt their regen.
When you get to 41 and pick up fireball (no excuse for any other epic really) the combo of AoE hold, fulcrum shift and fireball (with containment for that double damage) is at the damage cap, so we're talking a mini-nova thats up every 20 or so seconds.
The rest of a fire/kin build is personal choice. I like the SS/inertial reduction travel route myself, and hover is almost never off in a mission. May pick up stealth on next respec, but i dont know what i'd drop for it. Also, i put 3 end in SB and think it may be overkill. Solo it doesn't help your imps apart from the movement and attack rate and in groups it's hard for any well-built teammate to run dry with 1 end mod in it.
P.S. if anyone can tell me how to post a build i will do so (i'm too lazy and stupid to find out myself) -
This does sound like a good combo on paper. I have a mind dominator at lvl 38 and can confirm that mind/rocks in the control department and does respectable damage (mostly psi, which is nice). S
Sonics is also a very nice looking set....in terms of powers, unfortunately the sound effects and animations have put me off too much to lvl one up. I had a bubbler though and this looks like the set bubbles wants to be at the moment (come on devs, give some love to bubbles!)
And i would skip the shields too...but then i'm selfishand i've also spent too much time as a buff-bot. Never again i say! Never!
-
Yes...just tested it again. If you've never seen a mob fly, right up to the sky...then this is for you
-
Torrent...hmmm.
I took this power twice on my bubbles/dark defender and specced out of it twice. It does minimal damage, but ALOT of knockback. I found it to be useless for knocking mobs onto tar patch as it had the tendency to throw them right over it. I beleive the KB distance has been changed recently (dont quote me on that). It could be useful in 2 circumstances that i see....as a "get out of my face" power, or for herding mobs into a corner. It also has a relatively high -acc on it so i guess could be slotted for that.
If you like KB powers then you will like this, it is far superior to gale (which isn't saying much) in every way. However most of the time it will simply frustrate you and mess up your lovely cones. Maybe if you have nothing better to take...but i would recommend that you either try it on test or take it just before a respec in case you hate it -
Just felt the need to jump in here, interesting discussion.
I have a lvl 33 dark/dark corrupter and a lvl 50 fire/kin controller and so have experience with both sets.
From the dark set i have found only the first 5 attacks to be really useful...life drain does too little damage and heals too little to be viable in either application. The Nova (Blackstar) i think you will find far more useful than i as you will have less worry of having all your toggles drop (though the -acc is HUGE on it), AND you will eventually have fulcrum shift, the god power which will make it very nice.
The tentacles (slotted for damage btw) and nightfall combo is extremely potent, and spamming these 2 attacks can wipe out huge mobs very nicely. Also i haven't felt a need for adding -acc in there as it seems to stack noticably after a few hits and kept me safe way before i picked up darkest night.
As for kinetics, oh please god pick up siphon speed, in these post-ED times it is a godsend, slot it 2 acc 3 recharge (everything in kin at least 2 acc, heal with 3) and you can stack it 2-3 times in a heated battle. combine this with hasten and it is indeed almost perma still (i never notice it drop on my controller). So thats a big fat yes to it having a +recharge buff (i think maybe 25% - not sure but less than hasten) which can make your powers recharge in crazy time allowing you to spam more lovely tents + nightfall. The damage from this might not seem much to start with, but i use it on tar patch (-res) and the numbers fly. This should work similarly well for you once you pick up fulcrum.
repel i picked up partly to fill in power slots and it is nice in PvP (best stalker mitigation you can get - plus headbutting people out of the way is just fun however you look at it) but the power 6 in kinetics are siphon power, siphon speed, speed boost, transfusion, transference and fulcrum shift.
As a side note i'd recommend slotting (if you can) and end reducer in siphon power as it's a bit of a hog (i hurt when i exemp - transference is so nice it's hard to remember life before it)
Just my rather long 2 cents there, have fun with this build, it will rock eventually, mark my words
