    Drops II

I think that at this point, we can assume that the Story Arc IO Rewards will get handed out in some other (additional?) way.

Here's another tidbit: There are only 40 Story Arcs available Hero side. Are there more than 40 Story Arc IORs in the pool? And what about the fact that Villains have almost twice as many Story Arcs? And what if new Story Arc Enhancements get added to the game later?

Okay, so Story Arc Enhancements are going to be given out another way. So what is best?

I like giving them out for Mayhem/Safeguard missions at a rate of 100% for the Mission Holder only...but that does have the downside of outleveling certain rewards (or missing out by failing the mission).

I also like the idea of giving them out based on Souvenirs (in addition to some other way), if the tech to do that is already in place. If not, forget it or hand them out that way later, but don't delay I9 for it.

Also good would be some kind of level 50+ repeatable missions (maybe only repeatable 100x each?) that give out Story Arc rewards.
  2. Attacking the foe that's likely to fall more quickly is a legitimate tactic. I wouldn't apply it universally, but it's not a bad rule of thumb.

Having the AI attack the highest ranking foe in a group every time would also be problematic.
  3. Thanks a lot for the replies! keep up the good work, guys!
  4. Thanks for the interest in my little survey. Any more?

Great to see all these answers! Hope you all are having fun, and maybe even learning about your mains in the process
  6. No right or wrong answers, these are for fun and discussion. Blue Side first, then Red Side. Answer some, all or none, as you like. If your answer is 'none of the above', please explain what it is and how it works.

    Your main Hero...

    1) Discovers that a teenager with no combat training and a few low-level powers is attempting to follow in their footsteps with a similar outfit and name.
1a: You give the kid the scare of a lifetime rather than let him get killed in your name.
1b: You throw a huge curve into your life and career to mentor the kid.
    1c: It's a free country.

    2) A villain confronts you in the middle of a large crowd of civilians.
2a: You try to defeat him so quickl he has no time to endanger anyone/
2b: You flee, attempting to draw him to a safe place to fight.
3c: You surrender rather than allow him to endanger innocents.

    3) You are on patrol when you hear what sounds like a domestic disturbance from a nearby residence. Screams, crying children, physical combat.
1: You walk on. Can't stop for what might be a loud tv every time you go down the street.
2: You bust in. Better to be embarrassed than to allow an innocent to be hurt.
3: You spy in/sneak in. Security is more important than privacy.

    Your main villain...

    1) Has just gotten his hands on a live nuclear weapon. The problems are the fact that the weapon is literally in his hands, and a veritable horde of good guys are seconds from arriving and beating him down. Most importantly, no quick easy means of escape are available.
    a) Hit the button. Who wants to live forever?
    b) Use the bomb as a bluff/fight your way out. If it goes off, it's their fault.
    c) Give it up. Next time, Gadget!

    2) You arrive at your latest caper ready to obtain something useful to your purposes. But a hero and villain are already clashing over the goods!
1: Wait for the fight to wind down, then risk trying to eliminate them both. Might as well deal with two pains now than later.
2: Collect the McGuffin, and quietly escape. You can always deal with them later. Or not, whatever.
3: Try to team with one to eliminate the other. Why not make an ally while eliminating a future problem.

    3) The Rikti offer you governorship of earth if you help them complete their master plan. Their plan seems likely to work with your help.
1: You warn the earth of the plan at the risk of your own life. Better to reign in Hell...
2: You sign up although it makes you a servant of the Rikti. You can always betray them later.
3: No deal. Your independence is more important than any easy power.

    Have fun!
  7. So, presuming that Nukes and/or Shivans are going to be nerfed no matter what...

...what form should the nerfing take?

    Mature Roleplay

The problem with Mature Roleplay is that it requires Mature people.

It takes a certain level of maturity to actually face the possibilility of your character being humilated, defeated, or simply to fail, and to accept that with both emotional investment and grace.

As opposed to, say, nerfherding, blaming your failure on 'unfair' rules, or simply emotionally trivializing the experience by appearing dismssive or aloof.

Of course, by definition, Mature Roleplay isn't for everyone.
  9. The run AI may be getting triggered by other factors besides damage: debuffs, how many times it has missed in a row, how powerful your attacks are compared to it's own, how many of it's allies you have dropped.

Also, enemies may be able to 'sense' when they are targeted and keep running based on that, if they are already running. Normal runners run as long as they can see the guy who made them run.

Probably the best way to answer this is to refer to comics -- When The Human Torch 'goes nova' he puts everything he has into it and pretty much knocks himself out. That's the 'feel' these powers are meant to reflect.

As for MoG, no comment at this time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yea but when the Human Torch goes nova, he can melt Ultron to slag.

When I go nova, there's still two remaining Devouring Earth bosses that chuckle and then proceed to introduce my hero's face to a radical pummeling and an opportunity to use my HMO copay on the teleport to the hospital.

    [/ QUOTE ]

First of all, you don't Form Blazing Sword or drop a Spirit Bomb until your enemy is properly softened up.

Besides, I saw that movie :P ...all theHuman Torch's Nova did by itself was cheese the AV off. It took teamwork to drop that AV.

  11. If a Tank can take all of the aggro from a threat and survive (albeit with a Defender's help), then they have negated all of the danger to the team. This contrary to how many players would like it, is not actually the Tanker's job.

Tankers, Controllers, Defenders are all supposed to REDUCE, not eliminate, the damage from an encounter. An AV fight should be more than having a tauntbot, a healbot, and 4 damage bots. AV fights should also be much rarer, but that's a seperate issue...

This reminds me of the situation that led to the creation of the dreaded Purple Triangles. Should it be possible to Hold an AV? Yes. Should it be possible to Hold one throughout a fight? No. Same deal here.

So it seems that a Tanker needs to be able to grab the aggro of an AV, but when the AV decides to attack, there should be a chance that it goes after the most dangerous foe. This chance should be small, and get smaller based on the skill of the Tanker, but not vanish entirely.

Of course, this all assumes that due to range, debuffs, or other factors, that the AV is not going to one-shot the Blaster that's been sniping him all this time.

The other corollary is that while I can see AVs having increased resistance or Defense to an AT's powers, I don't beleive it should have outright Immunity to Gauntlet. Even the Purple Triangles don't grant Immunity to holds and mezzes.

Darn it, cruel way to get me to get Tabula Rasa...grumble...
  14. This story is also detailed in part two of the CuppaJo interview. Apparently, the Brute got stuck so bad the /stuck command couldn't help him, he was outside the world geometry. He /petitioned, and a GM accidentally (?) dropped him in Atlas Park.

When the Devs realized he was there, they naturally decided to drop him back in the Rogue Isles, but after checking with Cuppajo(!) decided to make an impromptu roleplaying event by sending Ghost Widow after him.

The Brute role played, the Heroes were awed, and all was well

Ok, I will say it - what is to stop gankers waiting until 2am on the very first day you get your item to Raid you?

I am sorry but this idea seems rife with potential abuse and griefing. Perhaps I don't know of griefing protections?

Seems to me that 2 SGs wait until you get the item attack enmass off hours and if the first one can't get it the second one does.

Can 2 SGs attack you at once? If not I get an item of power, I have a second account alt join a sister SG and have the alt enter my base to "attack" - they are never attacked and I hold the item for 21 days. I guess I need to see more on this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The following applies to IoP raids, not Instant Raids, AFAIK:

When you get your IoP, you set a time window during which you can be attacked.

When an attacker decides to mount a raid, his target is chosen at random from among the raidable bases, although he does get to pick whether he attacks a hero or villain base, and what time window. He has no idea whether he is up against a bunch of noobs or uber elites until he zones into the enemy base.

The attacker cannot choose a time window less than 2 days in advance. The defender is informed that a raid is coming at least 2 days in advance, so you both have 2 days to prepare.

Since you cannot pick who you are attacking, you can't pick on a certain group, or raid a friend on purpose.

2 SGs can not raid a single SG at a time.

You cannot raid an SG that has fewer IoPs than you do. If you have more IoPs than anyone else, you can't mount raids, and anyone can raid you.

It costs Prestige to mount a raid. Whether or not you can lose Prestige from being the target of a raid is unknown. A raid defender can possibly lose Salvage (in the form of built and placed items).
  16. Interesting. Are people actually complaining about post-50 content?

Sure, you can get it pre-50 by farming for it. But if it's boring, Just Say No, right?

    Typo? 6th paragraph reads:

"A hero corned by a Sapper will find he or she is unable to sustain most powers, and will be easy prey for the SapperÂ’s back-up."

Is this supposed to be "cornered"?

    Corn
    v. tr.

    1. To cause to form hard particles; granulate.
    2.
    1. To season and preserve with granulated salt.
    2. To preserve (beef, for example) in brine.
    3. To feed (animals) with corn or grain.

    doesn't seem right to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I understand your confusion, but beleive me, this not a typo.

lol, i know i probably missed a diff refference, but to call the candyman, you gotta call his name 5 times in a mirrior, lol.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, that was just Candyman. The reference I was making was to an urban legend in the Chicago-land area concerning a figure named Bloody Mary. -Shivers.- Scary stuff when you're a kid.

    But that Nerf bat man...

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think I saw an episode of Supernatural about Bloody Mary. I really don't like that show but my wife will watch it and sometimes I can't help myself and want to see if the ep is based on some cool old lore. Which that time it was and wasn't too bad.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    OFF TOPIC

'Bloody Mary' is known in a number of cultures around the world, but especially throughout the US. I heard about her when I was a kid in the Midwest, so it's not just a Chicago thing.
  19. First of all, congrats to CuppaJo for keeping her job!

What does CuppaJo think about the idea of a Forum Section for Designer's Notes...a SPECIFIC place where the designers can say, "This is what we were thinking when we designed this power, zone, mission..." and where the players can ask, "But what about this?" or "We'd like to see this!"

What does CuppaJo think of the idea of a Develpoment Cue being publically posted, where we can see things like: Skills have vanished from 'in development' and gone back to 'in design' or even to 'back burner', while 'Underwater Physics' has gone from 'Design' to 'Internal Testing', that sort of thing.

Does she see datamined info on Server Population, the popularity of powersets, that sort of thing? Are there methods of tracking how popular or unpopular a specific change in the game is that she can mention or describe (such as exit polls) and applying that to future plans?

What new Forum Hardware/Software is she campaigning for in her spare time?
  20. Yay! Glad to see another of your posts, and though I am saddened to see you drifting away somewhat, I am glad to see such an insightful post.

Making a game used to be like making a movie: the audience saw the final product, voted with their wallets, and that was that.

Now, you see everyone from Comic Book authors to Soap Opera writers taking their cues from the 'instant feedback' that is the Internet, while also trying to be creative, innovative and daring.

    Strange days indeed...
  21. Congratulations, guys.

I guess it just goes to show...

You can't become an Archvillain unless you are finally prepared to get really PO'ed. Then you're a SHOE-in.

    *flees*
  22. How many people reporting a problem should it take before the Devs spend dozens to hundreds of hours checking code?

    1? 10? 100? 1000? Even 1000 people is less than 1% of the database...

Or perhaps there is a core group of a dozen or so players the Devs should always 'listen to'-- even when those players disagree with each other?

I don't think it's an easy question to answer.

In any case, kudos to the OP for catching the issue, and kudos to the devs for checking it out.
  23. My question is, as usual, what do we want the result of the re-examination of Inspirations to be?

How many Large Lucks should it take to floor an even-level Boss? Should a Medium Luck be half of that and a Small be half of that?

How should Lucks compare to SR or other Defense Powersets?

Should one Luck of a given size have the same value as an Insight of the same size?

Some number of Lucks of a given size will 'cap' Defense. Should the same number of Sturdies of the same size cap Resistance?

Should Insights affect Accuracy or ToHit?
  24. Another idea for Chain Induction:

Remove the damage, turn it into a 'jumping' immobilize/defense debuff/resistance debuff.

That way it will increase the damage we do to foes without stealing xp or hampering Fury.
