Keeping your system fully patched is the best AV <,<
Using a tool like Secunia PSI that can scan your system and point out (with fairly good accuracy) what software is out of date is a wonderful way to shore up your system's security. AV software is generally pretty aweful... it can only do crap once your system is already being penetrated... better to simply not be penetrated in the first place than depend entirely on the gamble that AV software will know about all threats. -
Because the claim they are the "holy grail of characters" is an obvious joke. They're all around fairly good, but they're no 'holy grail'.
And, of course, the usual: This game isn't that hard. -
There's lots of events that occur in the game where our character wasn't present for. One solution that's been used is Ouroboros (namely the TF-contacts there), to throw us in via time travel... but that's sort of cheating, because then our character is there.
But, there's another solution now! The temporary power tray tech (not sure the actual name), which is used by the Panther transformation power. Our character, for the duration of the mission, can have the costume replaced with another, and given a variety of appropriate powers.
I'd love to be able to "experience" when Blue Steel leads a group of PPD to the Dark Astoria gate, trying desperately to push back the never ending tide of monsters pouring out of the gate. I want to be just one of the members of the PPD fighting desperately against those monsters, with their powers, not as an Incarnate.
I wouldn't want it to be used too often (otherwise it'd make our own powers feel kind of pointless), but there's certainly many times where it'd enhance the story, or allow other stories to be told in greater detail.
Thoughts? -
I'm not sure about exactly when you posted, but this morning is when they bring the servers down for the weekly maintenance, so you wouldn't be able to connect anyways during that time. If, once the servers are back up, you still can't connect, then you can investigating other causes.
As for playability on dialup... it's actually reasonably playable, although requiring some modifications. Primarily, disabling combat attributes completely. I can't check right now the exact method, but, I believe right on your active powers (the series of icons under the health/endurance/xp window) and one of the options will stop sending you the numbers.
People I've teamed with on dialup that were having problems said that, after I suggested disabling that, their gameplay became quite playable. There might be other tweaks you can make, but, from what I've heard that's tended to be the major changes necessary (Rikti Raids and Incarnate Trials might still overwhelm your connection, but regular teaming shouldn't). -
You're making the mistake of comparing powers in a vacuum. Don't do that. Sets are balanced as a whole, not on a power-by-power basis.
One of my first Heroes (and my oldest remaining) was an Illusion/Storm Controller. The endurance is fairly heavy, but it's definitely managable (and I did this with only SOs! no IOs back then). Hilariously enough, it violated your rule of needing 1/2 SOs worth of endurance reducation (I slotted 2 acc, and then either went 3 damage 1 recharge, or 2/2 split), and Ill/Storm is hardly an... endurance fiendly powerset combo. Oh, and I ran SI pretty much 24/7 -
Quote:Windows doesn't decide where to install applications, the developer picks the default locationYeah, you'll learn that alot of game (and addons) related issues can be somewhat prevented by not letting windows decide where to install stuff. :-p
%PROGRAMFILES% is simply the recommended location just because it makes sense to install all applications in the same parent folder (at least if they're on a single drive)... and polluting the root directory is a Bad Thing (i.e. installing into C:\).
In this case, it's an issue of it being developed with the assumption that the user would be running with unlimited privileges, so taking willy-nilly actions in an area that is supposed to be infrequently modified is fine... plus, not bothering to check for errors. -
This isn't just an issue with the MA, but with the doppleganger tech itself it seems.
I ran into a similar issue, I ran the hero TF with the dopplegangers at the end (Posi part 1?), and used Possess on them (which turns enemies black when it beats their mez protection). When it would end, they'd turn into Longbow Wardens as well! Seems that the 'base' model for them (or just the default fallback model) is the Warden, which is revealed under those conditions. -
Mids' is trying to overwrite the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Titan Network\Mids Hero Designer\Data\patchnotes.rtf with this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Titan Network\Mids Hero Designer\Data\patch.rtf
Delete the 'patchnotes.rtf' in the folder, and rename 'patch.rtf' to 'patchnotes.rtf'. Mids' doesn't bother to check the permissions (it shouldn't have Administrator permissions anyways... it could always set the files to be modifiable by everyone in the Users group, sidestepping the whole issue) before moving the files around, which generates that error. -
Chrome (latest): Works.
Definitely not browser dependent. -
I decided to grab the list of groups from Wikipedia and categorize them. Groups that were too small (Demon Hunters... is just a single named NPC) weren't counted, nor were meta-groups ("Praetorians"), and similar. This is counting Night Ward's content, which adds a few groups, bringing it closer to Tech (but not enough). Many groups fall into multiple categories.

All of them work fine for me in the latest Opera. Might not be browser dependent, but an intermittent issue with the site?

Imagine if back when BABs started working on Power Customization it had been announced.
And then nothing released for a year. People would have been complaining for every single day for that entire year, demanding to know why it wasn't already released (and not caring for the reason, because they just want it nao).
Or... what if 3 months into the project, after announcing they would work on it... he discovered that the engine had far too many assumptions that such a thing would never occur, that to actually implement PC it would have taken many, many man years of effort to rewrite the necessary code for it to even be possible, making it a totally infeasible project?
Imagine the vitriol being spewed forth on the boards when it was announced that PC was being abandoned. People would claim we were lied to (even if it was never promised- details like that rarely actually matter), and it would simply be bad PR.
The first scenario was what happened with Staff Fighting... every single announcement had people asking where it was. Every single ustream. Every single discussion with a dev. And many of those "asking" were really "demanding to know why we didn't already have it". It's not good to have an angry playerbase.

Comic Sans Man would support this suggestion-
If he hadn't been... Fixedsysed!
(hopefully their font selection in-game won't be as useless as the possible fonts this board allows...) -

Quote:Even at a whopping 83 seconds, it's already saved me timeThis line of thought makes no sense without the hyperbole you two have put on it.
If it had been 3-10sec long, I would have said it was too short.Went to AE to buy the salvage I needed for two Steadfast KB protection IOs (plus the rest from /auctionhouse), then dropped down a floor and crafted them. The travel time simply to the closest train station would have been nearly as much as the length of the video (to say nothing of train -> university!).
So how long would have been satisfactory for 'go to AE and load a craft map instead of running to Steel Canyon'? -
In Paragon's offices, guarded in an enchanted impervium safe
The devs will occasionally comment on things they're working on if asked (much more likely if asked in person), but more often than not nothing is said until the big reveal (power customization being a prime example). They don't really like saying too much, though, because "we're toying with the idea of X" is assumed to mean "X coming in next patch!!!!!!!!" by way too many people. -
How about tattoos that only glow in combat? You know what I'm talking about.
(And definitely what Forbin said... that game that's basically GTA online has a system where you can place various art/symbols on top of items of clothing to dress yourself... sadly, when you see someone for the first time, they just appear as a Generic ********* until their clothes load) -
0:40 seconds. Okay, who else literally laughed out loud?

Quote:Sorry, should have been clearer about that. You can only see the costume pieces on the power customization screen if you've already bought the costume piece. You can of course see them on the costume screen. You can see costume pieces before you buy them. They have a little lock symbol on them and a store symbol on them that you can click and takes you to the PMarket to buy that piece. (Obviously you cannot create a new character or update a current character's costume with pieces that are locked.)
NOTE: A lot of costume pieces are MUCH CHEAPER if you buy them in a bundle, so look at the bundle before buying piecemeal. Check the wiki for parts lists. http://paragonwiki.com
