  1. If you remember back when the Oz portal was new, they were absurdly abusable because they were real entities. People were running Hami raids and, instead of having anyone tanking, people would just drop a bunch of portals inside the goo, and Hami would go crazy trying to attack them (which obviously didn't work too well).

Maybe after the Trial/TF starts, or maybe TF/SF only, but for new Trials I'm 100% certain that's misinformation.
I was talking about existing trials (hence the "drops below"). When the turnstile event is first starting, it'll fill it up with whoever is available (which can be anywhere from the minimum to the max), but, once it begins, it'll never try to fill any spots when it's at the minimum (if you pull in a team you could go over the minimum, but generally you're stuck at the minimum... it's poorly designed).

It would more so be watching Clark Kent withdrawing 2 million bucks from a joint slush-fund shared by Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent.

Yes, and inf isn't account wide. If the devs went through the effort of making it account wide, it's very likely raising the cap (i.e. changing the datatype from a signed 32bit int to a signed 64bit int) could largely be done in the process.
  4. It depends entirely on whether the content is Hero-only, Villain-only, or coop. It'll also only fill slots when the TF/Trial drops below the minimum number of players.

Oh, forgot about the launcher. I never open that unless a patch is out... Even then, I never look at that graphic.
  6. There's speculation that Praetorian Infernal is being retconned out of existence, as he's an entity from another dimension, not Praetoria.
  7. Suggestions & Ideas board

It would be nice if some of those things were consolidated. I don't really see all that much reason for inf to even be per character (obviously the cap would have to be raised if inf was account-wide).

This was a test run of freebie friday, so that's why they said virtually nothing about it.

I can't imagine the percentage of players that regularly checks the website is even as big as those that frequent the forums. They usually send out emails when announcing something they want people to know about (although, whoever they have send out the email royally sucks at it... I've gotten notices for 'loyalty programs' after the start time had long since passed!).

I'm sure they'll actually make a big announcement, send out emails, and maybe even do a gmotd in-game once they decide to seriously do it.

And that, friends, is why you use prepared statements, and not try to manually escape the queries!

(works wonders for SQL and printf-like functions, sadly there isn't really an equivalent for HTML... keeping your presentation, data, and code separate is always a good idea)

    incarnate shards

You don't even need them for Alpha, since you can use Threads to make them... and it's often easier/faster!

I think phasing Shards out completely would be the best option, in a manner similar to base salvage years ago.
  11. It's probably their handling of the percentage sign... It's caused them troubles in the past (when Real Numbers first came out, there were double % signs everywhere that was a percent... I wouldn't be shocked if this current bug is related to the fix of that bug).
  12. That barrier still appears to be a fair distances away (people have claimed wrongly about the barrier in the past, labs have already broken the latest supposed barrier), so with the past trends, it should get close to the point of overtaking the smaller size drives, which still seem to be oddly common on machines the major OEMs ship. Then again, that same cheapness will probably cause them to continue shipping the cheapest item they can possibly find, regardless of how little it improves their margins.
  13. If you don't care about being supported on non-Windows platforms (using NTFS is a bit questionable anyways... but using FAT32 just seems wrong for your 'backups'!), you could simply buy 2 cheap external drives, and then have Windows create a software raid.

SSDs might very well take over the market of what ships on the majority of machines as the primary drive in the next few years (except low ends, like the ones that ship with Celeron garbage), but it'll be quite a long time before you see 1TB+ capacities that beat the GB/$ value of a rust bucket.

It's likely the storage market will stay fragmented for many years, unless a hot new technology comes in and obsoletes both rust buckets and SSDs (Memresistor-based storage is one of those 5-10 year technologies that promise to change the world... it stinks of a perpetual 5-10 year technology, though).
  14. Did you buy Time Manipulation? It's free for VIPs while they're VIP, and can't be bought when your account is actively a VIP. You'll lose access to TM characters when dropping down to preem until/unless you buy the set itself (or go VIP again).

If you bought the set itself in the past, then that's a different matter altogether.

Not sure what you're referring to as 'Cloaks'

Most folks probably don't even know about Freebie Friday yet... I only knew about it because I watched that part of the Pummit video, and then I stumbled across a thread talking about what people got (the OP thought it was randomly selected for each person).

When people actually learn about it, I'd bet most people still wouldn't know what it is until they checked the store themselves... the people that frequent the boards probably will know before log in, but we're a minority in the playerbase.
  16. That's probably fixing the issue with the pets running off crazily... but unlikely that it'd fix the issue where the controls don't override what the pets are actively doing.
  17. It's an artifact of how the pet AI works and how controls are processed, unfortunately. MM pet AI being crap is probably the only thing keeping MMs from being absurd tank mages, though...

According to the OP, not being able to access DA arcs people haven't already completed through Oz is exactly the problem. How would the location of the crystal change that problem?
  19. Probably the easiest first step is to simply try reinstalling it. If some file got correpted, that'll fix it right up. Good luck!

    Spec.Greer TF

All the episodes of the SSA are very soloable.
  21. Could you check Window's Event Viewer for any logged errors from CoX crashing? That might give a clue if there's anything there.

You can access it by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer. Inside Event Viewer, they would be under Windows Logs -> Application.

That's two totally different resolutions, a monitor only has one native resolution. According to the dx diag, it's 1366x768, just like my system (I suspect you have the exact same machine). Again, it should have no problem running CoH, so it's certainly not a performance issue.

I can't recall if it was this ASUS machine, or a prior HP machine, but one of them had some OEM service running in the background that would seriously screw up CoH. One thing you could try is killing all background services/applications (making sure to be on the Elevated version of Task Manager) starting CoH. There's a couple windows services that you can kill, but will then result in the system bringing up a countdown until it forces a reboot, so watch out for those (I think only one or two do it... sadly I can't recall which off the top of my head!).

    Freebie Friday

The devs will pick an item at random* to make free, it's not like a roulette game or anything where you spin for a random item. Likely most will be consumable items, but they could always do various costume items or something like that (I doubt they'll ever do a costume pack or any bundles).

    * for values of 'random' that are 'not random'

  24. The SSA isn't years old, it's actually relatively new (the entire thing is post-Freedom launch, the last arc only launched a couple months ago).

I loved SSA#1 as well (soloed it on a lvl 50 villain Fortunata ), although a lot of people didn't like how characters died. Personally, I thought the SSA added more depth to the signature heroes than pretty much the entire rest of the game combined had done. And, I liked being a Villain that did... evil things!
