  1. i16 isn't out yet, so you'd have i15 installed. If you're not fully up to date, you can't even login. The updater should automatically install the latest version.

So, in essence, if I happen to see 6 copies at $9.99ea on a shelf I should grab them and be paying $9.99/month for 6 months of sub time?
No. An account can only have an edition applied once. So 6 copies of Architect Edition would mean you'd end up with 1 free month and 5 unused codes... so you'd have ended up paying ~$60 for 1 month.

I have a BIG problem with this, and it's the same problem I had in Champions (when I wasn't waiting in line). I'd seen a couple of missions build up to a big fight, I go to this foreboding location and go to spawn my bad guys and... I'm in a huge crowd of people taking turns to fight him. I spawn mine, someone else rushes in, kills him, and I discover that, anti-climactically, my mission is over. Great. My entire mission was fighting this one guy, and it's over without me doing anything. Thanks for ruining it for me!
This shouldn't be used for the big climatic battle in the first place. Those should be in instances like they are now. This, IMO, would really mostly just be an improved 'hunt X' mission. And also, of course, there shouldn't be one pre-defined spawn point so there should never be the hoard of people waiting for him to spawn or any of that mumbo jumbo, and there shouldn't be special XP rewards for defeating him so there's no incentive to try to kill-steal.

Until I see a fool-proof system for ensuring I can avoid interference if I so desire, I'm afraid I cannot support this idea in any way.
Make it an option whether to do an instanced version or an uninstanced version ('Enter Archon Morrison's Stronghold, wade through his men, and defeat him' or 'Draw Archon Morrison out of his Stronghold to the streets by beat up his men and taking their lunch money'). I just see this as adding a bit of branching to a story arc without actually having to write branching stories, as well as potentially adding a little replay value to a story arc without a lot of extra work (ignoring the up-front investment of time it'd take to implement this tech).
  7. Oh snap, I didn't even realize there was an option for changing the font!

RF2009/RadioFreedom/RadioFreedomServer (hardly exclusive, unless you count 'the channel is overflowing with members' as being 'exclusive') run Task/Strike Forces all the time. Trying to form TFs via /b or /sea are generally the worst methods to go about it... if you simply refuse to join one of the many globals for your server, that's not the game's problem. And posi tf is a compromise? It's one of the least liked TFs in the game, I'm not sure how that'd be a compromise!
  9. He's wanting a monospace font, as well as the text to be wrapped in a <pre> tags so that extra space characters aren't ignored (although turning them into the html space & character would work)

    6. <nitpick> The game can handle larger file extensions. (See .customvillaingroup, .storyarc.) For clarity, why not just use .baseblueprint or .blueprint or something similar? Less likely that it'll be hijacked by another program that way.
Hell, any non-brain-dead application from after the DOS/fat16 era should have no issue with >3 file extension length (emphasis on 'non-brain-dead' and 'should' ). Back in the early days of fat, file names had two parts, an 8 character filename, and a 3 character extension hard coded into the format of the file system (i.e. they were 2 different fields with fixed lengths, and the '.' actually didn't exist!). With modern file systems, file extensions aren't treated specially, it's all just one string.

This was your completely superfluous tangent of the day. You may proceed with your discussion of this idea, which I support.

It appears you're running a 64bit Operating System, so yeah, you should put it in the 'Program Files (x86)' directory instead.

What people have already said, but there's something I didn't see them mention: The RMTers still have to earn the money in game (i'm counting 'stealing' as 'earning' in this case ). Inf/Items bought through NCSoft, would merely appear out of the ether. There is a difference, the RMTers can't generate their inventory any faster than the game already allows... NCSoft would be able to generate infinite inf in zero time, completely screwing the system.

And honestly, I'd rather have RMTers (and the spam that comes with it) than have NCSoft sell items. And I've bought most of the item packs, so it's not like I'm against micro-transactions on a fundamental level.

Ah, I'd always assumed it was SS before (never looked close enough to notice until this thread), so I'd just assumed he remade it for i16 with the alt animations.

Going Rogue is being so tightly kept secret and the uninformative press releases(or should I say "press reiterations") annoy me a little, making me feel like the expansion is either still in pre-production hell, or may not be as exciting as the CG movie and meager hype make it to be.
I think it has more to do with the marketing thinking that Power Customization is enough hype on its own that Going Rogue information wouldn't help their PR any. Also, based on the updater, I have a very strong suspicion that we'll be getting some juicy info on Going Rogue at Hero Con, since by then the competition's PR/honeymoon phase will be ending, so coming out with your ace in the hole then would be perfect to deal a serious wound to them.

My first reaction was to just rant and try to pick apart your post... but, well, that is exactly what you accused me of doing... so that'd be a bit stupid to do I believe in Socratic intellectualism, so after thinking for a while I decided cool heads would prevail and I should attempt to clear up what I meant, and why I post the way I do.

My philosophy is that if an idea can't stand up to criticism, it's not a good idea (yet). I know that is definitely not the way to make friends, and I know at times I can go overboard (I've pissed off my best friend so many times by being too blunt with her I also have a tact for poorly wording what I say so I sound blunt when I meant to be joking ), but I'd rather give my honest opinion when I can (sometimes you simply shouldn't).

I didn't think 1, 4, and 5 were good due to losing the brand recognition (I think the 'City of...' is a huge part of the brand thats been built up over the years), and 3 was because Heroes/Villains are still the main part of the game.

I actually liked #2 (re-reading my post I was really vague about that, although when I wrote it I thought that was obvious, so that's my bad), since it keeps all the brand recognition that the game(s) have built up over the years, still supports most of the short hand methods used to refer to the games ('City of...' 'City of X' 'cox' 'cov' 'coh' etc) and accurately reflecting that it's one game.

And as for the last comment, I thought I'd remember reading them call it 'City of Heroes and Villains' in some of the Going Rogue PR, but after a bit of searching I couldn't find any mention of it, so I might have just gotten confused with another site calling it that, and not actually NCSoft, so that's my bad also.

I'm sorry for any confusion or angst I've caused, that's not my intention.

Honestly, the only viable argument I can come up with is the possibility that certain sets would be overpowered if we could turn them into a knockdown rather than a knockback.
Bonfire would be pretty damn broken (its the reason it was changed so that it still does knockback to higher con enemies... people were using it as an auto-hit perma knockdown trap for deep purple enemies)

    Time for Change?

Okay, so I did the tl;dr version (about to go eat so I got an excuse ) so I might have skipped something important

IMO, from a sort of unofficial point of view, the name is already 2. I don't think 1 is appropriate, because we'd lose all the name recognition we have now plus ignore 2 factions. 3 would keep part of the name recognition ('City of'), but still ignores 2 factions. 4 loses the 'City of' which I think is a huge part of the name recognition, IMO... And #5 ignores that it'd now be Worlds, and 'super beings' while being more accurate (except for natural origin per its definition ), IMO it sounds pretty lame.

Suddenly I'm actually thinking that in some of the recent PR, NCSoft used the name 'City of Heroes and Villains'... no time (plus too lazy ) to check though, so just throwing that out there.

Though I do think Electricity armour should get the same +health benefits as Energy Aura.
It's not +Health, but Elec come i16 will be getting a pretty sexy self heal in the form of Energize (replacing Conserver Power, does -end cost, +regen, and +heal). It has twice the recharge of Recon (so 1 minute with standard SO/common IO slotting), and a 30 second duration for the +regen/-end cost (so easy to get 50% uptime... making Power Sink seem almost skippable! )
  19. I doubt we'll get any animation that's not the same length as the existing ones, simply because that'll make it so that your appearance impacts performance.

And what was the old animation, anyways?

Looks like the alternate animations for Super Strength to me.
  21. If it makes thematic sense for a new powerset, I wouldn't be against it (it better be worth it, though!). But I think the currently existing ones are very good as is, and definitely wouldn't want any changed.

You mean, how they balance every other power in the game? They don't take powers individually, they take powersets as a whole. This is what we already told you.

    What if?

You mean, no more updates? I'd probably drift away, like I've done with every single other game I've ever played (most of those games didn't last 3 months, much less 3 years).
  24. Remember: Powers aren't really balanced with each other, sets are. Formulas are used to standardize powers a bit, but that's generally more so only used when changes are already needed to be made, or a new set is being constructed.

Point being, you can't simply compare powers in a vacuum without taking into account the rest of the set. You might be able to make the case that Regen's self rez could stand for a little buff to help you from being killed during the animation... but even so, it's still useful if you're not solo (i.e. someone else to take the aggro), or the enemies aren't within aggro range.
