Super Hero games are a niche market.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless they're a franchise licensing deal based on the lastest Batman/Spiderman/Stupidman movie - not that Paragon Studios (did I get that right?) can touch that sort of money to throw around.
Still, these days superheroes as a marketable commodity are hardly niche, unless you're talking the comics themselves.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually have you looked at the pre-orders for Batman:Arkham, which has a huge push, my last chat with my game store buddy tells me after the initial "OMG I got to have it" push it's sitting pretty low. Super Hero games have a huge reputation for being the dogs of the gaming world. Superman N64, mention it I dare you. DC/Mortal Combat, Lego Batman, almost any Batman or Superman game on the NES, Iron Man(lets not leave out Marvel here) the landscape is littered with failed superhero games that only made their market numbers because of their franchise.
Similar comparison how many people playing this game have heard of Freedom Force?
Super Hero games are either 1) Niche or 2) Crap in the minds of your typical gamer.
Heck even with it's targeted saturation on MMO sites (messages here, on the WoW boards, MMORPG.come huge interviews, gaming magazines), lots of people aren't really talking about CO, the average person I talk to still thinks it is the Marvel or DC vapor ware MMOs. -
You know you could just go AR/Dev and say you are some 700 year old Visigoth vampire who sees no reason to not leverage human weapons against them.
Or something really left of field like a energy/energy dude in power armor because you know steel has like the best SPF ever! -

I had a Rabid Wombat card. I used it. All my friends were like... O___o the hell is that?
heheh.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh how I miss my Mortal Wombat deck. -

The Teen Titans category was kind of filler since I couldn't think of a better one, I'd put them on the same level as X-Men if not higher. I still think the '1-10: Mystery Men' is spot on though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Runaways may have been a better comparison, but I think less people know about them. -
Super Hero games are a niche market.
Excluding WoW (and it's billion dollar ad campaign) MMOs are a niche game market.
So CoH is a niche game in a niche game market. It's not too terribly surprising that people haven't heard of it. The same is true of EvE (Sci-fi MMO). -

the game's designed to be fun from 1-50

It's so absurd that I'd laugh except I think you're actually being serious.

You know I love the 1-25 game hero side, it seems like around 25 when everyone is saying how great the game is becoming, the stories become a little less fleshed out and you lose most of what you have to look forward too. I don't know, starting with Croatoa, the zone arcs don't carry you through their level ranges any more and you are sort of digging around to pick up extra plot arcs to finish out your levels. Of course that is just how I see it. -
Best place to look and get a discussion going is here.
-
Hero side here is what I usually do.
Starting missions to 5. Run to The Hollows do David Wincott and Flux's missions, then run to Kings Row and do three Police Radio missions for the Atlas Park safeguard mission, then I head back to the hollows and finish up missions for Julis and Talshak, after that I run Montague Castanella quest chain for access to Midnighter's club.
This gets me comfortably to level 13-14, which is travel power the start of IOs (though most people wait longer for them) and ready to move into TFs and the like.
Edit Add: You will probably need help with the mission to Kill Frostfire from Flux and the mission to Kill Atta from Talshak, but it's often not hard to find groups for that. -

I don't really like bees all that much, either. I don't know whether or not I'm allergic to bee stings, mostly because I'm too afraid of getting stung to find out.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bees won't sting unless you anger them. They're entirely more interested in simply finding pollen, they won't start a fight with something bigger than them for no reason
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless of course they are africanized. Of course even they don't really want to sting you and will exhibit butting behavior where they deliberately fly into you. If this should start happening it is strongly advised you turn around. -

I wonder if he's shifted his target to forum PVP once he tired of the in-game variety?
[/ QUOTE ]
If he did he's very bad at it. He isn't even trying to POE or thread jack. Any trolling I've seen in this thread isn't even grade school level. -

That's getting common, I had someone asking me if they could explore further like "Which expansion comes with the hazard zones?" Apparently they think AE is 90% of the game where the other 10% is the Character Creation.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well when the box you buy say "Architect Edition" you may think you are getting a single expansion. -
After getting two brutes to 50, I was suffering trying to get a scrapper past 25, I've found DM/WP is pretty nice and it's gotten me back into the swing of things. All that acc debuffing and the quick health recovery is really nice and makes the whole trip a breeze.

Sometimes I do wonder what it is like to live in a world where such things matter and context is overridden by pedantic nature.
[/ QUOTE ]
Eh, accuracy is important; details matter. We DO live in a world where you will die if you see a sign that says "Mines" and assume it says "Mimes" and walk into a minefield.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually here is where context matters. See that context part of the line you quoted? If I saw a sign that said "Warning mime field" I would think "You know that's quite silly, we don't really have such a thing as mime fields, they probably meant mines." and even if my cation was wrong I'd be safe, meanwhile the pedantic sort would snort "Well I'm not afraid of mimes" and get his butt blown off.
Yeah context is a great thing. -
So it's a specific mission behavior not a general mission behavior, okay. That was my error.

I can remember how much money I am spending. That is not the issue, the issue would be running out and canceling my game account to not bounce a check, thus interrupting both my game time and playing whack a mole with my account.
[/ QUOTE ] That to me still means you dont know how much you are spending. Knowing how much you are spending means keeping a positive balance in a bank account and knowing how much it is. If you are worring about stuff bouncing then you dont know how to spend its as simple as that. Dont spend money you dont have yet. If the person giving you the check has the check drawn on a bank thats local then take it to their bank instead of depositing it into your account that way you dont have to worry about the funds because you will know right away if its going to clear or not.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay I have to now pull out the snark.
It is clear you've never worked commission based. It is also clear that your farts don't stink. Not everyone lives on a stable paycheck. Not everyone is perfect. I can tell you in the 40+ years of my life I have bounced only one check and that was because a client's check bounced (oh and it was a business check not a check drawn off a personal account), it was a $2500 check, the bank put the money in my account, said the money was there, then 3 weeks after the fact reversed the charges. Yeah I'm sure if your pay check was reversed 2 weeks later without anyone telling you (because the bank takes the money away then mails you a letter that takes it's own sweet time getting to you) you'd have enough cushion in your bank account that all your bills would be paid, because you are a 100% perfect financial wizard with money flying out your rectum.
Of course your whole dang argument is pointless, some people prefer the game time cards, they are nice little trifles you can hold and carry around and give to friends. By your argument why should we carry around cash, it's all physical and ugly and you can just use your bank card right, it's not like spending cash really saves you any money in the long run.
Outside of a thin attempt to talk down on people who don't have your financial acumen what is the point you are trying to make? Honestly? -
Okay I'm confused. What is the new behavior?
Once I've clicked up passed difficulty one, I've always had bosses spawn in the missions, it's the whole reason to go up a difficulty level. 1 boss 2 lts, or 1 boss 4 minions. What is new? -
Thanks. I suffer really bad forum search fu.

"Finishes" on costume pieces has never been logical and complete. That is the problem of the OP, and my constant gripe about costume pieces.
It would be nice if every costume piece had a shiny, matte, and rough finish. This would allow optimal mix-and-matching.
The low-res Gladiator shoulder has been around for ever (thus, the low resiness); way before the Imperious TF pieces were introduced. But, the ITF pieces were high-res and the old Gladiator shoulder didn't fit with the rest of the gladiator set. So, it was made high-res and given a rough finish, thus, making it no longer match with all the old legacy options which people have been using for the past five years.
The answer isn't to give us back a low-res gladiator shoulder. The answer is to update all pieces to hi-res and give all pieces the same set of finishes.
[/ QUOTE ]
You got my full support on that. No doubt about it. I also would love to have three choices, matte, rough, metallic. I was just pointing out from my POV what was "Ruined" it's not unsurvivable, but gladiator was one of the few non-symmetrical shoulders and robot arm one of the few non-symmetrical body pieces, so it's a shame that they no longer go together as well. -
Gods you know as a dyslexic it's sad that I really can't see the difference 90% of the time. I try, but going letter by letter just to see a very poor pun always hurts a section of my brain.
Sometimes I do wonder what it is like to live in a world where such things matter and context is overridden by pedantic nature. -
I am really bad at frankeslotting. So I've got a six slotted siphon life at 20, what is a good/cheap layout for it?
DM/WP FYI. -
<QR>
Hey there are pictures. So yeah the simple answer is they don't mesh with the robot arm as well any more which kind of stinks. The old ones had the same texture so it really covered the poor jointing on the robot arm. The new ones clip and have a different texture, so now I am sort of forced to find a new blend for the robot arm options. Valkyrie works okay, but it's symmetrical. -

why buy from a store and pay tax needlessly? unless you live wherever nc is based.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because for some people it is easier to live within their means by buying game time cards. Also people like me who work commission often go through boom bust cycles, so one month I could by like ten cards and put them in my file cabinet but the next month NC Soft hitting my bank account means me going into the negatives.
[/ QUOTE ]Its the same amount of cash. I dont see how its helping you. Just about every bank has a free debit card that you can get. If you cant remember how much money you are spending then maybe you dont need to be playing in the first place.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can remember how much money I am spending. That is not the issue, the issue would be running out and canceling my game account to not bounce a check, thus interrupting both my game time and playing whack a mole with my account. The cards don't save me money, they save me heartache and work within my budget better. They are a physical reminder of the months I have stockpiled, they can often be bought on sale (something you can't do with paying by credit card/debit card), I can control when they are applied to my account, debit card is always the day you subbed, and when you have multipal accounts you can pick and chose which you keep up and which you let go down much easier. Sure I could pay 6 months on all of them, but the only account I know I'll want to play straight through for six months is my main, if my commission don't come through or a client bounces a check on me, I don't have to scramble to cancel my game accounts, I just don't apply the cards or "hey look at that" I have them in my file cabinet from when the client didn't give me an IOU. It's not about "do I have the money" or "Do I know where the money is" it is 100% about controlling when I spend the money and how much I spend.
Also it much easier to go to a friend hand them the $20 game card (or one of my 30 day cards if they already have an account) and say "Happy birthday, see you in CoH" with a game card them my debit card.
