I like the t9s of WP and SD but I don't think they should simply be clones of them. I think they should still have a long recharge and be affected by recharge buffs (which WP and SD are not), simply changing them to not detoggle you would go a long way in making hard crash t9s be more attractive.
Oh I agree with you, I'm not complaining about their recharge and Khelds really needed a buff, especially PBs. I also like that the recharge is long because when I use Power Surge I want my 3 minutes of 'its GO time' (yeah terrible phrase I know), but having to retoggle everything is so annoying that it's basically the main reason of frustration when I get killed on my melee toons after the 30s when they have 5 or more toggles. I'm not gonna pretend I know how effective the WP and SD tier 9s are because I haven't played them and never noticed when other people use it especially since there's no announcement like when someone says he's gonna use unstoppable or is about to crash (and power surge of course turns you into a gremlin).

I started liking ELA's tier 9 the moment I got it with just a resist IO slotted since I don't need to use it every time it's up - now the only time I remember Ninjitsu's Retsu helping me was when a teamwipe occurred in the ITF computer, I survived, used Retsu and basically soloed the computer in the middle of the robots (my stalker wasn't softcapped) - and even then, now with ingame numbers and stuff, I probably would've done the same things with one small purple per minute like I do on Lambda/Keyes in stages where I'm alone (so no outside buffs and she's sitting at 46ish def to all) and have to solo a mob. Only used Retsu when I wanted to run back immediately and the hosp door was unlocked so no time to buy insps, but even if I end up with some blues and have a self-heal, the -recovery period is just terrible.

I have the same view on nukes - the first toon I had a nuke (and the only one till last week when I finally got a blaster to 32) was my rad/psy def years ago. I was all 'oooo nuke fun times' on a team fighting 'invincible' mobs, so bosses were tough and they were 'respecting' my anchors. Anyway I wasn't that sure on how effective my debuffs were at the time, so I thought we were doing so well (I was barely needing to heal people, just debuffing and blasting) and etc that both times I decided to nuke, I caused two teamwipes
  2. Although I fail to see how 'shutting 3 servers down' would help CoX, funnily today the WoW clone announced a server merge. I don't know if that's a 'doom' move since making this when it's less than a year old might not affect players as much as doing it to an older game like CoX. Also, maybe they went overboard on the server stuff, the game has 27 NA servers and not sure how many EU ones.

And that game is pretty popular and imo deserves the good reviews - awesome graphics, interesting class system, fun pvp, community was very helpful when I asked about builds and stuff in the forums - well those were my impressions from playing it for 2 months, I gave up because I don't like the slower WoW game style (although it was a bit faster than WoW imo). Now Cox... even with the awesome graphics from all the newer games (including single player ones like Skyrim), Cox is the one I like the gameplay the best and the only one I still stop to look at another toon and am still wowed by another player's design/costume after years and despite the dated graphics. I'm not a big spender but the game has goten more money from me with the new system and I don't regret my purchases (Except for beam rifle, hate that set lol, but it happens).

I still think that CoX's marketing is the worst anyway since nobody knows the damn game, I have to show the website or screenshots I took when my friends, brazilian or american, ask about it since I mention CoX sometimes because it's the only game I play (I'm totally against server merge and I mostly play on the two 'big ones'). Especially when, in the link I mentioned in my previous post with the top score MMOs of all time on MMORPG.com, Cox is second and besides the first and third ones (WoW and EVE), they are the only three 'old' games in the top 10 - Evercrack II comes in 14th.

(I like that site because they do re-reviews and expansion reviews, they are MMO-focused after all, so it's not a 'I played 10 hours and etc' kind of review you see there except maybe for new releases).

In about 90% of cases (for me, and i.e. more often than not) the tier 9s just don't give the bang for their buck.
I see your point, it's not unlike how I feel with Retsu on my /Nin Stalker (I skipped Elude on my /SR scrapper). She's already great and the crash is horrendous (especially the -recovery).

I just think that, if PBs can have a mild crash AND a perma-godmode, the others could at least get the milder crash.

I'm leveling an Invul Brute and since the max s/l res I can get from him without Incarnates and Unstoppable is 70%ish, I really want to see it a bit tweaked so that at least it doesn't retoggle me since it will benefit my Brute plenty. Your tank surely could also use the benefit of resistance to all but psi, but maybe it won't matter much to you because Tankers nowadays are extremely sturdy even on SOs, making a 'godly' invul/shields is actually cheap especially compared to a brute/scrapper (and I find it fair that Tankers have these advantages).

Here are my game suggestions :

1 - Mass e-mails to all the COV/COH players telling them about updates and changes, even the inactive ones. The only e-mail that I ever get is when I purchase something. Maybe something in the e-mail may spark interest for someone to return to the game.

    *Lots of 'consolidate servers gibberish'*
Seriously, don't use the server argument. This will only cause people to rage like you saw, you can always move. This is coming from someone who likes the crowded servers and plays basically only on Freedom and Virtue.

While I agree sending mails at least with each issue's news is a good idea (don't they already do that? The mails I receive from NCSoft always come with broken images for some reason, even clicking the link doesn't work and leads me to a blank web site or some korean stuff, and yeah it's in the usual coh domain and I have a US account despite living in Brazil), I don't think that trying to convince people to return is the best move.

NCSoft is doing something wrong with marketing. Nobody's even heard of this game in Brazil, for example (although there are a few brazilian players, before my break there was quite a big community, global channels, coalitions and all, we MoTF'ed, farmed, made all-Brazilian teams because a lot of them didn't write well in English, etc).

I say they're doing something wrong because CoX still has the second spot with a 8.9 rating on mmorpg.com when you see all their MMO reviews sorted by rating. And still, a lot of these games below CoX are very well known here. While Cox, well... Not only that, Virtue, despite being almost as crowded as Freedom, has a dead-ish Redside nowadays (compared to what it used to be, and also considering the fact I always played in the 'big' servers).

You'd think that the second highest rated MMO in a famous site, despite not being in the usual fantasy setting, would gather a lot more interest (and the review is from the Architect edition, a lot has been added since then) than it does, but instead it's far from being the second most popular.

And while I like the community as it is, both on these servers I play and on Champion (the channels there are pretty active, only reason I don't play more there is that I don't have 50s on Champs and I play in odd hours), I can't help thinking that there should be a way to make the game more widely known to other MMO players. A lot of games rated lower than CoX in the mmorpg site (the hobbit one which is like 15th, the Sony ones, the 2011 'refined' WoW clone) are very well known here. I know most of them are based on franchises (the WoW clone isn't tho), but CoX is about superheroes in general and with the advent of movies and growth of comics readers worldwide, I'd think they could capitalize on that. Yet for some reason, this game is still an underdog in the MMO world, and I bet you know how many people here (including me) can only stand to play this one because the others are 'slow', 'boring', etc. CoX is the only one that actually feels like an action game to me.
  5. The 'retool the nukes' thread made me think about something I've wondered for a long time and forgot because I took a break and only recently played a toon with a 'godmode' again. I'm talking about the Resist ones (Power Surge, Unstoppable) and the defensive ones (Kuji In Retsu, Elude, Overload).

Also, the PB changes. Thy got a godmode which gives the AT something they don't have outside of Dwarf (mez protection), caps their resistance, can be made perma and has a soft crash (half your health and end).

I love godmodes but I find the crash is too bothersome. I adore Power Surge on my Brute and I don't mind the crash because when I use it I have skittles to get back on the fight. The SR and Ninjitsu ones I find the crashes more problematic. So here goes:

    1) Reduce the end crash. I'm fine with it leaving you with barely any end and hp, but at least leave us with 5-10 end so you don't have to retoggle. By the time we get our godmodes, we have at least 5 toggles, 8-10 in some extreme cases. That is the most painful aspect of it for me.

    2) Maybe it would be out of balance, I don't know, just an idea, but making the crash like PB's Light Form would be even nicer because I'd use the powers (Power Surge, Unstoppable) every time they'd be up (I'm not asking for it to be possibly made perma like PB's). Perhaps this is not absurd to ask since PBs (and WSs) can have theirs perma and still no crash/half a crash and PBs get mez protection, something they don't have in human form.

    3) The defensive powers I find more problematic. Except for Overload's +HP, they don't offer much to most toons (when you get the power you'll likely be at more than 30% def to all so usually you'll be at 1 little insp from softcapping, or less). The extra recovery is nice, as the defdebuff resistance, but even on SOs it's not a big deal when you can just use purples. And the crash is horrendous. Even if nothing is changed in them, at least change the crash - because besides detoggling you, the Defensive powers' crashes also have a -recovery effect. That is too much - on my Elec Brute I can actually be 'godly' for 3 minutes, crash, eat a blue and use energize (and power sink) and keep on fighting, with Retsu on my /Nin I actually have to eat a ton of blue skittles if I want to return immediately to the fight because I won't be able to recover any endurance for the next 20 seconds.

So well, the peeve I have with them is mostly the detoggling, easily fixed by leaving you with 5 end or whatever. And also how the SR and Ninjitsu ones aren't that helpful because giving a ton of defense to sets that can reach 35-45% on SOs is much less effective than maxing out resistance to almost everything on an Invul or ELA toon - also the recovery debuff is unnecessary on the defensive ones.

I'm not a fan of WP's or Shield's modes, I like the way my ELA toons feel when using Power Surge, the 'invincible' feeling, even if they have to pay for it with long recharge times and a crash, but I'm not qualified to comment on WP and SD because I never had the powers, just looked at the numbers.

I'd love some opinions on the theoretically 'invincible modes' because I see a lot of people skipping them nowadays, and I really like the resist ones when I know I can manage the crash, but God the retoggling...
  6. I really wish Total Focus was restored to a mag 4 stun (after all, seismic smash has a 1.5 cast time and is a mag 4 hold), the tier 2 attack had the same chance of a mag 3 stun as KM and a little reduction on ET's animation, two slow attacks is too much, playing EM is hell on the prisoner stage on BAF. And for the broots/tankers (mine's a Stalker so I never used the power) the Whirling Hands radius increased, sure. I also don't think it would be OP if Total Focus did a full crit on Stalkers, when it crits it does about the same damage as usual Energy Transfer.

About KM and EM's tier 2 and tier 3 attacks (since except Tankers the rest usually skip the tier 1, Km's tier 1 has a chance to kd tho):

    tier 2:
Body Blow: 7.152s Stunned (mag 3) (20% chance)
Energy Punch: 5.96s Stunned (mag 2) (10% chance)

    tier 3:
Smashing Blow: 7.152s Stunned (mag 3) (33% chance)
Bone Smasher: 9.536s Stunned (mag 3) (30% chance)

Plus the KM attacks still do -damage to the target and KM has +selfdam, -dam, KD in the AoE, etc. I was wondering why my KM Stalker was stunning mobs so often compared to my EM in the low levels (I didn't like KM's animation so only played till level 20).

I never felt it when leveling my Stalker (when it took 3+ months to level playing daily) even with old ET. And I 'scrapped' with her since she got into SOs.

But after the ET changes I took a big break from the game (not because of ET lol), still didn't play her for another year till recently and I gotta say, it's very noticeable for me in scenarios where I'm heavily buffed for recharge (+200% or so), like fighting iTrial AVs when I can chain ET and TF with a small gap. Of course it's not the typical play scenario pre-50, but the fact that when leveling her I knew less about game mechanics, and probably that I always had a fast recharging heal (she's /Nin) made me barely notice it while leveling and even at 50 with IOs, and she's the villain I played the most.

So maybe I would've noticed if she was EM/SR but... I don't think the hp loss is a big deal since ET is out of whack in end cost and DPA anyway.

    Rain of Arrows

Thanks Trickshooter, didn't see your answer before on the -dam from PGA! I'm enjoying the set (well except flash lol), and I'm really enjoying some powers I didn't think I would (Acid Arrow and Ice Arrow), it's certainly nice to play a set with no redraw between primary and secondary. And I like the speed - when you think 'well acid and blazing are kinda slow' and then you see they only have a 1.83 sec cast time, means the set is really fast

I'm on the fence on Explosive arrow tho. I was gonna skip it but I feel I need some mitigation, I got aid self at least for the leveling build.

Yeah they do the same damage. Dunno if the corr version scourges because elec blast's damage makes me cry so I never got it past 20. I think it does because iirc there was some talk about the Dom version scourging.

But if you really wanna see broken stuff that shifts the balance more than a lousy pet, just look at Ice Storm across Blasters, Corrs and Defs, same damage.

Fire Blast for Corrs is hax because Rain of Fire does Blaster damage and SCOURGES. The defender version was properly modded and does way less damage.

The power is a bit complicated and I was using it the wrong way (the rez part) when I first got it.

    It has 2 parts:

    1) the 'attack': targetted AoE (autohit, but requires a foe) with 80 feet range/15 feet radius like Fireball, which does:

-50% SpeedRunning, SpeedFlying, SpeedJumping for 30s
    -50% Str(RechargeTime, JumpHeight) for 30s
    -10.43 Negative damage
    -15s Stunned (mag 2)
    -500% Regeneration for 30s

    2) the pseudopet it summons around you when you hit the mob - it's a 25 feet 'PbAoE' that rezzes teammates to full health.

So if you have an enemy 80' away you can target it and it will hit them. But the rez will work *around* you, meaning if you have 7 teammates dead next to you (25 feet) you'll resurrect all them. I was using it wrong when I got it the first time till someone explained it to me because I thought that I would rez people who were in the way between me and the targetted mob.

And although it's only a mag 2 stun, with Hasten + good global recharge you can keep the regen debuff pretty often on an AV.

I've seem min/max builds skip it, probably because they got HoB to 'every mob' status, but it's actually a good cone.

On my Blaster I hated it because of the cast time and DoT (it felt like I was tickling mobs till I saw the numbers, but the cast time was killer for me on a squishy blaster), I like it on my corr.

The closest power I could find to it is Psy Scream.

Corr numbers from Mid's because I'm lazy to add up all the DoT from City of Data:

Empty Clips at 50: 43.38 dmg, 10 sec rech, 30 degree arc, 40 feet range. 2.5 sec cast time.

Psy Scream: 43.38 dmg, 12 sec rech, 30 degrees, 60 feet. 2.67 sec cast time.

Bullet Rain does a little less damage (almost the same in corrs tho) and has a 18 sec recharge. Also since I don't know how to change ammo type in Mid's, these are lethal ammo numbers, so they're actually higher than that with fire.

But since they have high base AT modifiers, they benefit more from Musculature than Brutes with their low base mod (same way they get more out of build up and etc).

Once you get your build all in place, and you defenses from other stuff set up, it's crazy on the damage output, but you have to wait a LONG time for that. Of course, that is all my opinion, and it's based on only 1 TA Def at level 50 and 1 TA Troller at lvl 30ish, so I'm far from the most knowledgeable TAer out there.
Yeah I find it weird that a power like Tenebrous Tentacles, which is an AoE immob, damage, and -tohit power, and a secondary one for Defenders has more -tohit (-9.38% base versus -6.25% from FA) and TT is on a set that has plenty of other -tohit sources, same for dark miasma which has more than one -tohit power and individually they're better than Flash.

It could be changed to something akin to Fearsome stare (-18%ish base tohit, longer recharge and some mitigation effect, it's a big *Boom Flash*, they can think of something).
  15. I'm actually having an easier time leveling my tw/invul than my stone melee/elec brute (before power sink of course) and the TW already has tough, the elec I delayed because it was too much before PS (I like taunt and tanking so I used Fault a lot).

End has been fine, he's 25 on SOs but well unlike my scrappers I can afford to slot more endredux in the attacks and not worry about damage slotting till a bit later. I don't solo avs (I usually don't solo at all, get bored in 10 minutes) or strive for optimal ST attack chains so this is not an objetive analysis, it just doesn't feel as bad as DA, EA and Elec (both before their +end powers).

And well.. I might do WP on a scrapper someday. I was teaming with 2 WP tankers on my ta/a def in a 8-man team, tons of mobs and me, the ice blaster and even the elec troller were stealing aggro from them all the time - they both had taunt but the missions were set to +4, full of ambushes plenty of times there were 20+ mobs. I also remember that when WP was new, I was on some lowbie TF where the Tanker didn't have taunt (he was exemped, he had it later) and I was able to pull aggro from him with snap shot, the tier 1 from archery that does piddly damage so I'm not excited about WP's aggro holding capabilities, which is one of the reasons I prefer Brutes and wanna make a tough one.

(My TW/Invul got pasted in First Ward trying to solo at x3 but well, lots of exotic damage and no invincibilty, leveling was fine in TFs and other story arcs so far).

And cardiac seems the better choice since Brutes don't gain much from damage bonuses. A +recharge/+resist alpha would be sweet lol.

I have a question, dos PGA's -dam stack? I was on a team fighting +3s so I used it more than once in a mob, the recharge was fast because we had a kin.

If I were to remake it again, though, I'd probably make something different - great as archery is on a blaster, it's a bit underwhelming on a defender or a corruptor.
That has been my experience, but Archery never feels very damaging until you get the best mininuke. My Arch/EM blaster was deleted before RoA so I never had it, I deleted him because I always felt the damage was low - and I'm satisfied with my energy blaster so I'm not expecting the set to be 'OMG Fiar'.

That said I decided to level the defender, she just hit 24 yesterday (the corr is 22 anyway but he was PLed to 18, gotta love the free farms on freedom when the farmers are bored and there's no one to pay because it's 3 am so they broadcast free ones lol).

I'm hoping RoA will make the big difference, although I like Fistful (Explosive is meh to me, I even skipped it on the Def).

TA is a bit of an odd set tho since it's purely debuff. You won't turn the tide like a rad (my rad 'caused' some teamwipes when the team seemed to be steamrolling pink mobs and I decided to nuke or do some silly thing like take the alpha and faceplant - anchors drop, team dies lol), or the elec troller the other day that allowed the melee team (I was a broot) to turn of the diff just because he kept everyone perma sapped.

I'm liking TA a a lot, just wish the debuffs were a bit stronger since it's all it has besides damage on a long recharge (and a little control, <3 ice arrow). I'm finding Flash Arrow very lackluster tho, it's the one power that feels very underwhelming to me. Acid Arrow is great the way it is imo because it has a short recharge on SOs and you can use it all the time. Although I don't have OSA or RoA yet, I can see how Ta benefits from recharge because we had a kin most of the time and I was 120% rech bonus (hasten+SB), the toon felt a lot more powerful.

I played the Oedipus Tex character to 50 as a Pistols/Dark and the main drawback for me was just all of the redraw. I think any of the weapon sets would have driven me crazy with that.

Anyway, it's not exactly true that you its either knockback or damage but not both. I tended to quickly switch between the two a lot. Knockback turned on for a difficult boss, turned off after. It really did make a difference in DPS because I would never accidentally blow enemies out of clusters. IMO Energy Blast has it much worse than Dual Pistols just because it has to hold back so many of its attacks to prevent scatter.

However, I do generally agree that the attacks are needlessly slow. The entire set feels like the animation speed should just be doubled. An overall fix for redraw would also do wonders for it.
I wish I could find the thread, Umbral did the numbers long ago. I think that the DPS was about the same as NRG with fire ammo but that's just a guess.

Anyway it's a middle of the road set in terms of damage. But as you said the animations are crazy long, that's why I deleted my dp/fire blaster and made a dp/dark corr which I like a lot. The problem with the Blaster version (for me) were both the animation times and the fact that I had to enter melee to use HoB (another long animation). Also the set didn't make me feel like I was killing things fast at least on a Blaster like all the blasters I rolled felt since the low levels, but that may be subjective. I don't mind redraw (except on outliers like the BR/Poison I got to 30 - man reapplying the debuffs every 5 secs drove me crazy, and BR looks like it has a bit of a delay when delivering the damage, and add the Disintegrate gimmick plus redraw all the time, it was unbearable for me). I find /Dark very good for DP because it's very safe to use the nuke and ES even while leveling on SOs/basic IOs. Then again with /dark even a fire blast toon is safer than most other combos.

I agree with you on Energy Blast. I like the damage, I like that the animations are fast, I also enjoy the animations but the only NRG blast toon I managed to enjoy was a hover blaster, the KB interferes too much with most set's debuffs on a corr and even on a blaster I didn't want to take a melee heavy secondary since energy has a very nice attack chain with 3 blasts, 2 fast AoEs and I make good use of power push.

I think DP with shortened animations on empty clips and HoB would be a very nice set (I already like it now but I paired with a very safe secondary like you).

  20. Well he made a Broadsword/shield because you can't make a Katana/shield.

And obviously he picked a set that doesn't benefit from katana's +def like regen, elec, da, etc. My kat/regen scrapper is the only toon that I started soloing at x3 before any slotting, and it's not like she had a secondary before SOs since regen requires decent recharge to function properly. 30% melee def after two DA stacks is nothing to sneeze at, and a lot of secondaries can slot IOs in other def types and get softcapped with one DA/Parry.

Even ignoring Divine Avalanche, Katana is great with fast attacks, low end cost, great attack chain with or without recharge, you can have a good attack chain on SOs. Remember that the scrapper min maxers have soloed itfs and tons of AVs on kat/da, kat/wp and etc. So why would it be different on a brute?

I don't see anything in Katana that would make Brutes benefit less than other sets, the higher crit chance on one attack is not as big a deal as KM's Power Siphon recharge and +dam bonuses or even follow up and blinding feint's +tohit and +dam powers. Most sets have something that theoretically benefits scrappers (L. Rod's damage cap, all the BU-like powers including Soul Drain) but they work just fine on Brutes.

BS is a different story since it's considered a bit underperforming among the scrapper primaries but even then it's not by a big margin. And if you're not a min maxer caring about the best dps chain/av soloing, BS might even suit a Brute better than Katana after properly slotted since it has higher rech and more damage than Katana per attack, BS only falls short when considering the top end ST scenario. Remember most attacks follow an end/rech formula except for some outliers like Energy Transfer. And you won't get a +def attack that helps basically every non-pure defense secondary with Mace.

The only set that really stands out to me as lackluster from a non 'min-max ST dps' perspective is Battle Axe, both on scrappers and Brutes, since after the buffs to WM, BA has less reliable KD, doesn't stun, the AoEs are a bit worse and less survival (no def power and as I said, even the set's gimmick, the KD, loses to WM and TW).

If you're comparing purely defensive sets you may want WM, TW or Stone Melee for more mitigation but Katana's damage is plenty good and it's more end friendly than most other primaries.

C'mon see the OP's post history, they're too cool for punctuation.

    Elec Blast

I like Voltaic Sentinel but it doesn't last that long and I feel like I can't produce a good single target attack set at all. I spend almost all of my time in melee so that I can do moderate damage at best and use my end drain. End Drain itself however is very situational as it is all or nothing and while an enemy has any endurance left the secondary power might as well not exist.
Funny thing is, we always thought end drain was not a very efficient form of mitigation until the devs released a set with AoE end drain all over it (aoe immob, pbaoe aura, aoe patch, jumping -end powers, etc).

I've played elec control up to level 12 and even without a single TO my elec/thorns dom was only worried about killing one mob at a time since the others were sapped after a few seconds just because of Conductive Aura (I tested going to melee without other controls). At highers levels with all the AoE -end it's not even funny - I was on a 8-man team with 7 melees (me included) and an electric/emp controller, so no sapping secondary, fighting +4 mobs at level 35ish, and all the enemies were perma-sapped after a few seconds - he barely used his secondary for healing, I only noticed he was an emp when I had fortitude on me.

When the troller left, we were completely owned the next mission and had to turn the diff down a notch since the mobs were attacking much more often
  23. Seriously, read this. There are sections for every buff/debuff powerset available to corrs except for Time. The link takes you to the Dark Miasma guide.
