Stygian Circle will be up seemingly always, so endurance and health are easy to come by. Definitely run Orbiting Death and rely on Dark Detonation, Unchain Essence, and Sunless Mire for AOE damage (might be a great AT for the new Leaping attack, too). Inky Aspect can provide some mitigation, if needed.

If you want multiple forms, set up binds to combine insps for defense and enjoy the carnage in whatever form sounds good to you at the time. It'll be a lot more clicky, of course. Mainly, you'll use human for for buffs and unchain essence, with Nova being the focus for damage. I'd probably only use Dwarf for Mire and mez recovery, but it's worth taking if only as a set mule.

Dark Extraction is great for farming traditional PVE content, but not so much for ambush farms. Keep it on the build anyway for the great set bonuses and non-farming usefulness.
Nice, thanks for the info. I actually have a WS that was self-PL'ed to 22, he's 28 now. I know, don't PL Epics, but it's a reroll of an old WS I had at 40 before the Kheld buff. He is tri form but if I decide to try farming with him it'll be human, I remember my friend (And another WS I saw long ago who I farmed along on my fire/kin) were REALLY fast, and both human-only. I don't want too much clicking when farming, WSs are clicy enough, my triform has so many binds I won't remember now because I haven't played him in 4 months lol.

It was kinda easy to get him to 22 alone. Level 1 locked ambush farm, from 2-6 it was a bit of a chore since I only had Orbiting and Sands of Mu as my 'AoE', after I got Nova it was almost (non SS) Brute speed to 22, just had to be sure I was at the defense cap all the time using binds for insps as you said. Since the farm was level 1 and I got my powers up to level 6... I don't think many ATs (Except Brutes, fury+damage aura+AoE attack is pure win) would do better on such a farm because Nova form is better than Blasters at level 6, good and fast AoEs.

Once you've got enhancements up to about 85-90% fire resist, you can run with ridiculously large crowds. Until then, maybe make friends with a thermal.
Well with fire's heal and using binds to combine insps I got a SS/Fire to 28 in a s/l farm (same as the warshade I got to 22). As long as I am softcapped I am fine. My /fire broot also got some fire defense later from sets so I could run ambush fire farms with only 2 lucks (or one medium), made things much easier.
  3. Thanks for the feedback, Test Rat and Delusionist.

My KM/EA is a lowbie so maybe I'll reroll her. Any suggestions besides /Nin? I feel the insta-BU is too good to detoggle Disrupt everytime I wanna use it.

I made a ELM/EA, since Disrupt suppresses from Hide I think I can use LRod and then use Thundestrike to get the 50% crit, let's see, got him to 18 doing some sewer trials (feels good to be the ONLY Stalker on blueside - and on Freedom - this one I made as a hero). But placate and CS, I will want to use mid combat so I'm looking for a new secondary for my KM - any except Nin because I'm sick of it and Regen, I did a ELM/Nin because I can't stand my ELM/Regen and she's in her 40s, I had enough of feeling 'naked' with three click heals, two of them, Dull Pain and IH, on very long recharges, plus I have to be careful when using ThunderStrike, while on my Em/Nin I don't think I have ever died during TF and ET's animations.

This guy is just... lethargic in damage right now. BUT I am going to give your advice a try (I mean the proc advice) and stick him out for a bit longer before deletion!
    1) Don't compare blasters to corrs. Even my level 6 dark blast Blaster does crazy damage compared to most corrs (I haven't played blasters in a long time), even my DP/Fire who I find so lackluster compared to any other blaster I've tried (never got one to 50) does better damage than a corr at low levels, with maybe the exception of a fire/dark who is a beast. But most blasters starts out at level 2 two-shotting lts.

    2) Don't compare fire to others, it's way too good in damage. I'm enjoying my Beam/Poison Corr but I try not to think how it would be if I made a Fire/Poison, which would have better AoE and no setup - Fire's that good, I actually like the fact I haven't played Fire/ in a long time so I don't have any active toon to compare (I have a 50 fire/traps but haven't touched her since my 2-year break so she's slotted like when PGT was broken).
  5. So I was about to unsubscribe again after not playing for two months, but I decided to try the Beam Rifle powerset and I'm loving it. My secondary is /Poison which I'm liking so far (except for the subtle animations, I don't think anyone notices I debuff mobs to oblivion but that's okay, my most played toon was a Mind/Emp, purpled out, and the only time I get a compliment is when I heal or buff - even tho there were STFs I used my heal like twice, once after the scirocco nuke and then taking care of the tank and LR - so I'm used to that lol)

My question is, he's 22 and to prevent burnout again I'm taking him to 50, no altitis because that's what led me to getting sick of the game. And I'd like to know how the new Poison Trap is, how effective it drains end, hold, etc. A forumite fella said it was terribad for both still, but he added that he tested it on beta and there were some patches that made it a bit better.

TL,DR: How's Poison Trap now? Still bad, middle of the road or a very good power?

    Thanks!

Hey this seems like a good idea. I've been looking for the most carefree farmer but I don't want a slow one, even a fire/fire Tanker is not good enough for my tastes. I have a 50 SS/Fire, he has a planned permahasten build but... After incarnated I found out his AoEs are always up and he can farm +4/x8 easily with bosses, just have to pop two lucks (I have some fire defense on him).

But I hate the rage crash, besides hating remembering to click rage, and I want a farmer blueside. think I'll self PL one of those, do you find it too slow? A good thing about axe is that it can slot the FF rech proc like I have on Foot Stomp.

I was considering a Warshade but the reason my S/L softcapped firekin is shelved is the number of clicks required... Siphon speed, fulcrum, transfusion, transference... You know it gets boring after awhile.

I'm not sure how to farm on a WS tho, a friend of mine used to do it human only on the BM maps in the old times, but I never asked his methods because I didn't know anything about Warshades. I might as well get the last 5 levels on mine to 50, but if farming on them is 'Eclipse, Mire, switch to Dwarf, Mire, switch to Nova and THEN start blasting it might be a little boring for me. Plus I'm under the impression that due to Fury, Brutes are always much faster than other ATs, except maybe fire/shield scrappes and fire/kin trollers. Yeah I didnt mention elec/shield scrappers because I always read they're kind bad for bosses.
  7. Aw damn, forgot about the Placate thing, and /EA is a set that can Placate and AS in the middle of a mob like other defensive sets.

A bit off topic but are did you find KM good enough? After my break I'm inclined to agree with you that ST Stalkers are kinda useless, since AoE has been more and more important since the ITF (at least it was the first time I felt my EM/Nin was not contributing, and the newer content are filled with mobs).

Since I'm kinda frustrated with my ELM/Regen (she's so paper thin) and I'm only happy in teams when TS or LR are up, I might reroll my lowbie KM/EA into ELM/EA, with ELM I tend to use TS instead of AS anyway, maybe I can get some use outta Disrupt, that if Placate, queue TS and run to target can get a critical with the aura on.
  8. Mine has Spiritual, after Ageless you won't have end issues anymore.

You can figure out in Mid's which sets have endred on them, but one important thing to remember is that slotting your attacks with some endred is more effective than slotting your toggles. Attacks are the real end eaters, many people forget that and only slot the toggles (which of course need some endred too, I go for 40-50%, a bit more in damage auras)
  9. That's great to know, I found it weird when Disintegration spread to other targets on my Beam Gun corr after the killing shot on a foe.

Slightly off topic but what's the % of demoralize going off again?
  10. I can see your point Gemini, Energize is great on my ELA brute but when she gets hit she doesn't get almost one shotted like my /nin Stalker. I didn't use my heal frequently after softcapping my EM/Nin but of course there were times I used it successively. Well I'll see with the KM/EA, didn't respec the DM/EA yet but DM has Siphon. It will take long for me to get Energize because I'm liking my BR/poison and I always take way too long to level my stalkers anyway.

But why exactly is Disrupt so bad? Just asking, haven't gotten it yet but at least the numbers are okay-ish. Ok in a Tanker the 5 target cap would infuriate me, but does that really make a huge difference when compared to Oppressive Gloom? Or do you guys dislike OG too?

The set up of the set up is what bothers me about this combo. I feel like I use my secondary (poison) to set up with 2-3 potential 'set up' powers. Then I have to 'set up' Beam Rifle with a power that doesn't do much damage.... Disintegrate... ok, now I'm ready to actually do damage.
I didn't understand the past about Hasten. Do you think it speeds up the animations? Because it doesn't. I already have an almost seamless attack chain and it wil be seamless when I get the 26 attack, that on SOs so I'm not getting Hasten unless I fall in love with the nuke. But I don't think I'll get Hasten just because of one power, after all its recharge is not 60 seconds like rain of arrows (I actually don't know the number, I'm on my iPad so can't check the game now).

Anyway, Poison's debuffs are very potent. I found myself surviving and killing pink bosses in melee range because his def, res, tohit, dmg were nerfed.

Just don't think you'll be an AoE machine of death with Beam Rifle - but even with Poison I can see a Fire/poison doing well playing at x4 or more. IMO Beam seems like a set to play at +2/x1 or x2, I did quite well after I SO'ed in this setting. Very busy set tho, I like it, but maybe it's not great for everyone paired with BR since it's also busy (a Mind/Poison troller might be almost as nightmsarish as playing my purpled Mind/emp - I swear sometimes on big teams I regret putting so much recharge on her, always something to do - crowd control, damage aran setting up containment before that, Fortitude is ready way too often, and watch your teammates bars lol).

I'm also a bit torn on epics/ppps but I have a long time to go, leveling him the old way, if I get to incarnates and stuff like that too fast I might burn out again, I didn't play the last two months because of that - SS/Fire from 1 to 50 (self pl on lowbie AE arcs) and incarnated to everything +3 in 3 days.

Anyway, the setup thing is why people are saying the set is better suited for corruptors and loldefenders than blasters - blasters need to 'kill now' so they don't get killed, plus with the set's awesome damage and blaster modifiers you might end up killing stuff before making good use of Disintegration.

    Beam/Poison help

I gotta say, took him to 22 and I'm very happy with the new respec.

I decided to skip Antidote, the set is busy as it is, after all BOTH powersets require some setup, it's not fire that you debuff and then go blast. I'm loving the Disintegration thing, it makes me feel like a Blaster. I'm not kidding, it really does, I killed bosses more easili than I thought. And on the Posi 1+2 I did today, there was another Beamer with me, it was great since I didn't have to use Disintegrate sometimes, his Dis. would make my shots do more damage and spread. I loved it!

I skipped Antidote in favor of Tactics, I like having it for the team. This and Assault I can run only when needed anyway. (Plus the toon is my namesake in Exalted and I wanted him to be a leader, I always lead TFs and stuff anyway - and I have very few toons with the Leadership pool)

JayBoH, I think you can slot Alkaloid with 5 doctored wounds. I have 3 SOs on it now and it recharges fast enough. I'm finding it a good heal, I still dislike the travel time.

Biowraith, thanks for telling me about Neurotoxic Breath. I REALLY like it, although a bigger 'clue' when you hit the foes would be nicer since in a big team it can get a bit confusing. Ok it's not Shiver but it's good enough for me.

What I am reconsidering is picking Hasten later or not. I have no recharge enhancements on my t1, t2 and t3 and I have a complete ST chain with those and Disintegrate - later I may respec out of the t2, it's less dps or dpa or whatnot than the t1, well it's plain worse accoring to the game's numbers, and I still have one more attack to get at 26. I'm keeping the cone for sure, I like it a lot.

Anyway, I only have one recharge on the cone, no rech on the others and my attack chain is good already, plus envenom and weaken already recharge fast, Neurotoxic is satisfactory for now even with 1 acc, will get better later as I add slots, so I'm wondering if I really need hasten. Once I am properly slotted, even with SOs, it will only really help Overcharge and.. yeah that's it. For leveling I'm not seeing much benefit on picking Hasten. It may be replaced by Vengeance, freeing me more slots.

Well I hope others can chime in about Poison Trap - I trust Biowraith's feedback but I just wanna see if someone else finds it useful. Since my first build is already 'dumped' for now I'm gonna try it there anyway when I get to 35. Probably won't be long since I'm enjoying this toon so much. Since I'm on the few people who like Stalkers... Beam Rifle really seems like the ranged guy for the hard targets, while still helping with debuffs for minions and etc.
  13. Well Kitty 'seams' to ignore numbers.

Energize gives the same amount of healing as Reconstruction or Kuji In Sha, but it recharges twice as long and gives recovery and regen after.

Energy Drain was nerfed only in your mind, it still gives 25 end per target, which is better than the Ice Armor version that gives 15 (Ice Armor gives more defense per target from what I'm seeing in the power description in game which is only fair since it gives less end and Ice's toggles are lower on defense).

Disrupt is a mag TWO stun, not a mag one or else it wouldn't stun minions.

    ****

Now back to the rational world, I can see that Disrupt is worse than Oppressive Gloom. Both are kinda alike, but OG has a bigger radius (12 ft versus 8) and hits 16 targets while Disrupt hits only 5. I don't know how much of a big deal it is since Stalkers are rarely at the aggro cap, I don't even remember my Dark/Dark scrapper stunning more than 5 minions at the same time since they wander, and if it ticks every second like OG it iwll stun new ones like it does on my DM/DA. It also costs only double the end of OG, and OG's end cost is negligible. Ok at .19/sec it comes close to a dark armor shield toggle (0.21) but on a /Ea toon it shouldn't matter much, at most you will use two slots, acc and endred. And well it doesn't drain your life like OG although I never cared about that on my scrap. Seems like a good pick for me.

    Beam/Poison help

Thanks Bio. I've been using the nem staff as part of my attack chain (just got it yesterday, yay), but I think I'll try the tier 1 attack (I had made a Beam/EM Blaster before, deleted at level 4 because I don't like blasters, especially a ST focused one) - the tier 1 fires quite fast compared to the second one imo, and I'm sure I read somewhere it has better dpa than the tier 2.

Envenom and Weaken don't stack except for -Regen but then again if they did they'd be OP'ed - with good recharge you could stack a buttload of -everything on a target, just saw CoD (these are MM numbers). But it seems that the fact -Regen stacks can be great for AVs since it's the same value as Lingering Radiation's.

    Weaken
    • DMG(All Types) -22.5% for 30s [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]
Effect does not stack from same caster
    • ToHit -11.25% for 30s
Effect does not stack from same caster
    • Stun, Sleep, Confused, Terrorized, Immobilize, Held, Knockback, Knockup, Repel -74.5% for 30s
Effect does not stack from same caster
    • RunSpeed, FlySpeed, ToHit, Endurance -74.5% for 30s
Effect does not stack from same caster
    • DEF(All Types, Defense, Melee, Ranged, AOE) -74.5% for 30s
Effect does not stack from same caster
    • Heal -74.5% for 30s [Non-resistable]
Effect does not stack from same caster
    Envenom
    • Defense -0.225 for 30s
Effect does not stack from same caster
    • RES(All Types) -30% for 30s [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]
Effect does not stack from same caster
    • RES(Heal) +15% for 30s
Effect does not stack from same caster
    • Regeneration -0.5 for 30s PvE only
I think that's why people in the Controller forums are comparing it to Rad and most are saying Rad is better overall if you don't mind toggles. That sounds like another yummy combo for teaming and killing hard targets, BR/Rad, but I'll stick to my poison guy now, I never had a toon that does -special and I want to know how good it is.

    So... I think I'll go:

    1) Tier 1 + Alkaloid
    2) Tier 2
    4) Envenom
    6) Disintegrate
    8) Cone
    10) Neurotoxic Breath
    12) Lancer Shot
    14) Weaken
    16) Elixir of Life (just cause it accepts Resistance enhancements like Steadfasts)
    18) Combat Jumping
    20) Antidote
    22) Assault because I can get away with 1 slot lol
    24) Hasten
    26) Piercing Beam
    28) Aim
    32) Overcharge
    35) probably will try Poison Trap
    38) Venomous Gas

Well that's it, already respecced till 16 I'll think about epics/patrons later, suggestions welcome, if I like and keep him, he's my namesake on Exalted

    X/Ice armor

Nice, I'm curious to know. I find it weird to get the e/ne shield so late when all the other armor sets get it early. I know Tanks only get it at 18... But it's an old powerset when you didn't need e/ne def, and in some places like Praetoria it's good to have e/ne defense or resistance shield early on. I won't roll one for now because honestly, using Dull Pain on my /regen Stalker makes me cry because I don't get to like, 2k hp... (a Peacebringer using Dull Pain - forgot the name of their DP clone - goes from 1071 to 1711 hp, no accos and DP enhanced, same as a Crab using Serum... A Stalker using Hoarfrost/DP goes from 1204 to 1606, no need to even enhance it lol)

EA looks good on paper, but in practice it really is meh and many people are over selling Recharge. I like EA, I find it a good balanced set, inferior to Ninjitsu but I do like it. But since my /EA toons are 2 brutes and a DM/EA Stalker, I'm leveling a KM/EA to see how good it is without Brute toughness and Siphon Life from DM.

I didn't get the Stun Aura yet (and didn't bother to respec the others, when I take a break and come back I like to start new toons), why do you say it's worse than CoF? I thought it was an Oppressive Gloom clone, a 'ones slot wonder'. Ok maybe 2 slots because you may want an endred, unless you tell me it does not tick every second like OG. I like CoF and I think it's better than OG for a Brute but soo many slots are required...

    Beam/Poison help

    Hi guys,

I know there's a thread about this great combo but I need some newbish help.

I hate MMs so I never played poison past level 6 or something, hence I'm not familiar with the set. And I'm having some trouble deciding which powers to pick on both. He's 16 and so far what I have is:

    1) Tier 2 attack + Alkaloid
    2) Cone Shot
    4) Envenom
    6) Disintegrate
    8) Aim
    10) Hasten
    12) Lancer Shot
    14) Weaken
    16) ??? (didn't choose yet)

So my questions are, since I have another build and a ton of vet respecs:

    - Is this a good selection? On Corrs I usually skip the tier 1 but I read somewhere the tier 1 is better than the 2, and well with Piercing Beam I think my ST chain will be good enough. Or do you usually pick both? I can always postpone Aim. Plus, not too happy with the tier 2 attack since it looks like it takes forever to animate.

    - Is Neurotoxic Breath worth it? I loved Shiver on my Ice Dom but... Shiver has a 135 degrees cone and Neurotoxic has only 30.

    - How's Poison Trap nowadays? Did they turn it into something really good or just meh?

    - Is Alkaloid worth enhancing at all? Mine's unslotted but it looks like a really weak heal, not to mention the stupid travel time. Comparing MM numbers it's a base 17.5% heal versus 22.9% from Soothe. Is it more or less like O2 Boost without the extra perks (and again, damn travel time)?

    - Since both Envenom and Weaken recharge faster than their duration (30 seconds), do their effect stack? I mean, should I use both every time they're up against an AV/EB? If so, does the -special also stack?

Thanks in advance and sorry for so many Q's, I'm a Poison noob and just bought the Beam set, and I know some of you guys played it in Beta. It looks very fun although I can see what people mean when they say 'only use all your setup (weaken, envenom, disintegrate) on REALLY HARD targets since well, even at this level a team kills a pink boss quite fast.

You could always set up a Hackintosh, doesn't seem that hard, Lifehacker has some good articles about it if you wanna test drive the system. That said, while I enjoy OS X immensely (and even more with Lion because it puts a trackpad - or in my case the Apple mouse which is a 'mobile trackpad' - to good use), with all the copying MS has done from OS X and Apple has done from Windows... They're not that different to use unless you do Terminal-ish geeky stuff.

Btw Emberly, if you ever happen to really like OS X to the point of buying a Mac to use it as your main OS, I've been using Windows XP and later Seven since my reg date (when I bought my Mac Mini and started playing Coh, there was no mac client), and both of them worked wonderfully for me, never got a blue screen of death here (I skipped Vista), both on the old mini and the new imac. So it's totally usable a dual boot machine too, I spent months only on XP on my more Coh-addicted days

(answering on another post because of my wall of text above).

Emberly the client is sucky now, which affects me too because I really hate to reboot when I just want to play a lowbie, meaning no Mid's, no Herostats, things I like running on my high end toons. But maybe there's hope, there are some game clients that run well even using emulated technology (The Sims 3 and Fallout 3 run normally here and they're both emulated). Since I hadn't run the CoX mac client for 3 months and updated a lot of stuff when I tested it yesterday, I found it to run smoother than I could remember, it ran as well as the Windows one. The problem is that it locks up once every two hours - you can see that on the mac forums. But since I don't know the types of emulation used in different game clients, I don't know if the CoX engine they used has a 'fix'. From what I've seen from more knowledgeable people, it's a bad engine for OS X since it's from Linux, so perhaps they'd have to start it from scratch (yeah won't happen lol)

Please substitute 'Mac' with 'OS X', then in my previous posting. Otherwise, I'm still standing by the recommendation: Get a real gaming computer...which is to say, I suppose, get a real operating system?

/No, surely that can't be right... OSX rules in a lot of other areas, even I know that.
Well you are bashing for no good reason. The OS has nothing to do with bad software, you know there's plenty of bad programs for Windows, including games, as there is bad native OS X software too.

And the client for Coh is terribad. Yesterday I was on the fence about unsubscribing or not (nothing to do with the client). So I decided to play, in 2 hours the CoX client crashed 3 times. I got pissed off and rebooted into Windows (using the same iMac, wow who would say), played for 5 more hours, not a hitch, not a crash. That's not OS X's fault since there are games that run smoothly on them (again, see my comment about Blizzard, one of the few that has been making good OS X clients for ages).

It's just like Texas_Justice wrote (although I'm not sure what he meant later mentioning Brazil, I think he called me a nut since he posted right after me and I'm from Brazil) here:

I actually don't think OS X 'rules a lot'. I just think it's better for me, there's nothing I think W7 cannot do for my needs, I just like OS X better. And I actually think MS did an excellent job in Windows 7, even XP (although I didn't like XP very much, found it complicated to find some configurations - yes I could find them, it was just a hassle compared to OS X).

I'm no Apple fanboy, I've been using macs for 11 years because I prefer them and that's it. If you wanna find one, go for the people who bought the Apple bundle (iphone+macbook pro+ipad) last year and think 'everything is perfect' because they didn't know how to take care of Windows properly and ended up with viruses and crashes. I actually got flamed by my own friends who bought some Apple computer recently on facebook when I was with my prior mac (a 1.66 core duo mini) and wrote 'Wow windows 7 is great, it's running faster than OS X on my machine' (the reason was, that mac mini model was stuck to a 2gb RAM limit and OS X is hungry for RAM like Linux or other Unix based system). On my new imac, both systems run smoothly (and admittedly, since I'm an early adopter type guy, the new Mac OS X Lion has some annoying bugs because it changed the system core too much, I like the changes but like any system that does too much differently, it'll take 6 months or so to get better - before the first update I used Windows 7 as my main system for 2 weeks because of a very annoying and common bug that Apple fixed 1 month after releasing the system).

Btw, since Apple is growing fast on the notebook sales (everyone seems to like notebooks now, including my gaming friends, they're all buying high end laptops from Sager, HP or Dell instead of desktops, I'd buy a cheap notebook and a desktop, it'd be the same price and I could upgrade everything later but well, just what I'd do), there was even a quite large virus infection on OS X recently. IMHO, in 2-3 years every mac os x user will have to use antivirus programs too, if the 'Apple conversion' continues to grow like that. This also means that companies should pay attention to their Mac clients, many people won't install Windows on their macs, I'm a geek and like to have both, plus it's the only way to play Rift (who would say, my non-gaming computer runs a 2011 game at max settings - I know it won't last long but for now I'm enjoying new games at great settings, not bothered that I won't be able to do it in 2 years because I'm not a huge gamer, only CoX grabbed my attention for long in the last 4 years).

Fact is, dude, except for running OS X without tricks, I'm running the same hardware as most of you. When I bought my new mac I knew I was buying it because I like using OS X and I loved the iMac's design, build quality and design more than any other computer (I always wanted the 27 inch IPS screen). I prefer it enough to be willing to 'suffer' with Apple's stupid decision to not include usb 3.0 ports because they believe 'Thunderbolt is the future' (it may be, but where I live it's still hard to find Firewire stuff, so not too excited on having only usb 2.0 ports on a new system).

I find this 'system wars' kinda funny. A friend just asked which notebook she should buy the other day (on facebook too), specified she didn't want a macbook because she didn't want to learn a new system and didn't have the money for it and even then half the responses were 'MACBOOK PRO' or 'MACBOOK AIR IS THE BEST STEVE JOBS IS GOD OMG'. I was the first to actually send her some links on good deals on Dells (I don't like HP, didn't send her Sager/Clevo suggestions because she didn't care about gaming).

But heck, I even have an Android phone because I prefer it over iOs

  21. Seirously this was driving me nuts.

(And I had to do it twice too)

Oh and probably would have posted in the tech forum where there is less snark.
This. He'd have at least told us what OS version he's using or what Mac model he has, he wanted to start the good ol' 'We hate macs' argument.

That said, the Mac client is really bad. Had it close on me thrice today, did some more testing since I usually play on Windows. While it ran smoothly, more than I used to remember, it just closes randomly. The Windows client (on the same computer, my iMac) is just fine, I played for whole nights with no freezing issues.

Well it all comes down to what Kitsune Knight said:

CoH is, in short, using a Linux Windows-environment emulator. It cut the TTM down massively but, it's anything but an OSX client.
And we all know how emulation sucks

I find it interesting that you go that route. I've yet to experience any true lows for the WS that I are really any different than any other character I've leveled, minus the vunerability to quantams which can be annoying.

    @Draeth Darkstar

Why say it's a silly question when the way you choose to play or enjoy the game is purely subjective? Not only that, but a subjective view changes over time. I've already made so many character and played so many different combinations, but I have yet to build one character that is so thoroughly developed that they've done possibily everything that one character can do in the game.

Right now "A lot of fun" to me is finding one character that I can develop to such a level that there is very little (on the extreme or obviously not possible) that it can't do on it's own.
Actually Warshades' 'lows' are quite noticeable, since they have much in common with Dark Armor - they love being around mobs, WSs more than /DA. That's why they can do everything but solo GMs (maybe AVs, I'm not sure).

High end WSs' performance float way more than other ATs - you're dependent on other mobs for your godmode, your self heal/endurance, your mires, even your self-rez if you pick it. So when you're in a team fighting a single AV you are usually not contributing as much as in the middle of a big mob.

And well, subjectivity is important. Bots/Traps can be the 'i win' button, but is the toon enjoyable for you? I hate MMs so I'll never make one but they can basically do anything. Same for Ill/Colds (well not farming) but they also require more strategy than a SS/Fire brute.

I'd go with two toons: a SS/Fire Brute (for awesome damage, farming, melee fun) and if you wanna solo everything (like GMs) and also be more strategical in play style and like to contribute on teams on ways other than just damage, Ill/Cold (with perma-PA) or Bots/Traps. I know you asked for one, if I had to pick one only it'd be the bots/traps - although I'm not sure how well they farm I've seen they do everything else, but even if they farm very well they won't get close to Brute speed. Especially since it's so easy to self-PL a SS/Fire, claws/fire or claws/elec broot to get you the shinies, my SS/Fire hit 50 in two play sessions (like, 8-10 hours I think). And like Nihili said, he was doing well on TFs and teams and any other stuff with a cheap build. I didn't solo AV's with him since he farms so well on his current build and incarnate powers that I didn't bother, but it can be done, just look at Fiery-Enforcer's videos.

    X/Ice armor

Haven't played with IA on Stalkers but it seems like a bit of a chore to level. Glacial armor at level 28 (at least looking at paragonwiki), besides the lower defense values? Ouch. Unless pwiki is wrong it should be switched with permafrost imo, e/ne def is good to have at 20 (also +perception, res to defdebuff, etc)

Well /EA has nice defense numbers, and once you are soft capped you won't be needing the heal all the time. Sure it's no reconstruction which /nin has a clone, but after softcapping Energize should be good enough.

The stun aura provides mitigation the other sets you mentioned don't have.

The godmode is potentially the best one available, but hindered because of the low hp cap (why oh why can't Stalkers have the same HP cap as the epic ATs who have less base hp than Stalkers), but that also makes Ice Armor's Hoarfrost far less useful than it could be.

There's also the recharge bonus. All in all I think it's a pretty balanced set, but as always I'd recommend /Nin for anyone trying Stalkers for the first time, I don't think softcap+fast recharging heal can be beat (and toys which I always forget to use but they're cool).

Of course that's my opinion, if Energize is not enough for you after soft capping you may not like the set later too. It's good enough for both my Brutes but ya know, Brutes can manage to get hurt a little. My /EA stalker is DM/ so I won't compare because she has Siphon Life, made her long before the /EA changes. Plus I'm a little masochistic, I have a ELM/Regen Stalker on her 40s even after all the nerd rage from dying in the middle of Thunderstrike (low hp+no defs+no resists = blapper with mez protection) and using Dull Pain just as a heal with a little +hp.
