  1. Beam Rifle is very good indeed, I have a BR/Poison corr and even when I'm not using the debuffs on every mob (like a large team, poison is kinda hard to get every enemy in this scenario) I still feel like I'm doing more damage than my DP/Fire blaster (the DP part at least, oh DP I love your animations but your damage... I am disappoint ).

Anyway just get the Ageless thingie and you'll never run out of endo again - if my badly built SS/Fire Brute who had to eat blues like a madman (he's a farmer so I didn't care much about end consumption and he suffered in TFs and stuff) is now always full of end after Ageless, even with Spiritual for recharge, I think only something crazy like a Stone/Dark Brute slotted with no endred can run out of end lol. I don't even use consume anymore on him.

Maybe you don't see them (well, us) often because a lot of them don't understand English well. I had bad experiences leading mixed groups, mind you, not bad because of player skill, bad for me because I had to translate a lot of things for both sides it was tiresome for me especially since it was something I used to do for money as a freelancer when I was in College so when I teamed with my Brazilian friends I also decided to be either in English or Portuguese speaking teams.

Most of my BR friends don't play anymore (I think because I have a ton on my global friends and I never see them online) but I'm sure there are others - we have a game time cards dealer here for those without an international card, but they suck, they deal with 1000 MMOs so they left CoX behind, they seem to be focusing on what gives them more money - selling things for that freemium MMO, Perfect W..., which is popular here.

Just went to their site, I can't even find CoX anymore - last time I went there to buy GR I only saw the Architect Edition, so I had to resort to, ya know, other ways to buy GR from the US NCSoft store, same for some booster packs since they only had the wedding one and cyborg iirc. That's too bad if they aren't really selling CoX stuff anymore (CoX was in the main menu but when I logged in to my account there, since I bought the original edition via the website, only Aion and Guild Wars showed up from NcSoft - and they charge the equivalent of USD 21 for one month of playtime ), lots of people don't have an international credit card and they'd stop playing the game because of that.
  2. It's not funny now that most people have gold names, I'm gonna change it back to white
  3. They stack, but I think the top builds can have at most 3 at a time, 2 perma as long as there are dead bodies.
  4. Poison version:

You can build a Poison Trap on the ground. Any foes that pass near the Poison Trap will cause it to detonate and release its toxic vapors. The poison is a highly toxic nerve gas, and any foes in the affected area may be drained of much of their Endurance and quickly Held or begin choking while suffering a minor amount of Toxic damage over time. The trap is almost impossible to detect, but it is fragile and may be set off by an enemy's explosion. Even if destroyed, the Trap will detonate.
The Sleep effect only applies when the Trap is set off. The gas cloud it releases will infrequently drain Endurance from enemies within it, or Hold them as they retch and vomit, for as long as the cloud exists.

And there's this addendum on paragonwiki:

Contrary to the power's description, the Endurance drain effect is weak as well as infrequent. The vomiting effect is not unusually strong like the one in Noxious Gas.

    Traps version:

You can build a Poison Gas Trap on the ground. Any foes that pass near the Poison Trap will cause it to detonate and release its toxic vapors. The poison is a very noxious gas, and any foes in the affected area may start to choke or even vomit. Affected foes regeneration rate and attack rate will be reduced as well. The trap is almost impossible to detect, but it is fragile and may be set off by an enemy's explosion. Even if destroyed, the trap will detonate.

The Traps version doesn't need acc enhancements according to pwiki (can't check now because I'm on Mac OS X, I have a 50 fire/traps I haven't played in ages) and is the only source of -regen in Traps, the Poison version needs acc and does -recovery. Onmly the /Traps version does -recharge.

Hmm pwiki also says only the traps version allows Hold enhancements, weird. I was gonna play my corr to get him to 35 but I got sidetracked by Pretty Strong, my Brute (yeah you know what the powerset combo is lol)

You should've mentioned this before instead of using the 'busted iphone' excuse, people wouldn't make fun of your posts (at least most here ).

Well if you like MMs, robots/traps can do all the things you listed.

Ill/Cold and Ill/Rad are also like that but can't do the same on SOs, they require substantial investment.

And people have been doing crazy things with SS/Fire Brutes lately, they can farm on SOs but expensive IO builds can pull stupid tricks, but it won't be as easy as the above ATs, you have to stay more 'on your toes' since even with capped defense or whatever, Fire Armor can get killed quickly if you don't pay attention.
  6. I finally played my Brute (Pretty Strong) a bit, went from 15 to 20. I hadn't played him since the /EA changes because he's stuck in that place I can't seem to take any toon out of there (Praetoria, it bores me to death, especially since it was deserted even on a Friday night, on Virtue).

And wow the taunt aura is very good, I was teamed with a DP/Traps corr who was like level 12, meaning he was basically a weaker DP blaster, which was ideal to test my aggro grabbing capacity because he kept dishing out his AoEs (and since he was lolDP that meant he kept tickling everyone) and I still didn't have Whirling Mace, and even then I had no problem keeping aggro on me without using Taunt. Obviously being with a defensive secondary on DOs, I kissed the floor sometimes, and I feel the heal comes way too late, but the combo looks good to me. War Mace is an end hog but EA fixes that, and I have good mitigation since level 8 with the KU attack and Clobber.
  7. Well one way to go is to forget about Defense, I did it to my ice/psi permadon. I never needed it because slotting Drain Psyche for heal, I could jump in the middle of mobs in the ITF, use DP and start Psi Shockwaving them. Having enough mobs you'll be at capped recovery even without slotting DP for endmod, and to achieve capped regen easily you have to slot for heal IME, like you did, just needed an accuracy . I leveled from 1-50 without Stamina (when it wasn't inherent) because DP is so good, and I ran Arctic Air 24/7 which is a heavy toggle.

    Some things to consider are:

    1) Psi assault is a good set to play in melee, and Mind Probe is a fantastic attack. You should try it, it's awesome. You get two builds anyway, so at least try it in another build

    2) Having PSW, Rain of Fire and Fireball, you might reconsider Psy Scream since it's a cone. Some people like it, others don't, so up to you, I respeced out of it. It's a good cone, but it didn't fit my playstyle because I found myself always in the middle of things to use DP and PSW. And since you have three potent AoEs already you might not need it unless you exemplar too much. But well it's good for leveling at least.

    3) Most people skip the sleep on all doms but Mind and Elec, because the others (Earth, Plant, Ice) do damage and draw aggro, so their usefulness is kinda limited.

    4) My advice of either skipping Spirit Tree or if you take it, enhance it fully for heal, still stands. To be honest I only found this power useful when there are two of them (or one Spirit tree and one Triage Beacon, both give the same regen) or another source of healing (there will be plenty of healing over time with the /Time toons so Spirit Tree will be more useful because it complements the healing DoT from /Time).

    5) I'm not a fan of AoE holds because they take forever to recharge and last for a few seconds. I took it on my ice/psi because Ice lacks hard controls, but with plant I found the AoE hold unnecessary because of the roots+seeds of confusion combo.

But well this is all from personal experience, I respecced both my ice/psi and my plant/thorns plenty of times. Doms are hard to get right. I'm leveling a Plant/Ice and an Earth/Fire, I have no idea which attacks to skip from /Ice and the Earth/Fire I alreay switched to the second build because I didn't like Incinerate (it's a great attack, but since Earth/ is all ranged and with /Fire you can build a decent ranged chain, I noticed going in melee just to use Incin was bothering me - if I made an Ice/Fire I'd definitely keep Incinerate because Arctic Air forces me into melee anyway, so does /Psi because of PSW and DP, that's why I talked about Mind Probe)

And yeah it's hard to build defenses without a shield like Scorpion (my favorite because it's s/l/e), but anyway your numbers are too low to matter. My /EA Brute for example is still a lowbie on DOs, he has 25% def to most types and it's almost like he still doesn't have a secondary, he gets hit all the time. That's why the minimum is 32.5% to s/l, because with that, a small luck can get you to the 45% cap.

Oh another thing: Melt Armor is garbage. Only -7% def and -11% res for a ton of end, it sucks on all ATs where it's available as an Epic Power, it's only good on the Thermal powerset.

I am actually surprised not as many people are up in arms about this I know I am. They said it would, even in the patch notes, but it doesn't.
Yes it does good sir. On Brutes at least, I just tested it right now with a lvl 16 Broot I didn't log for some time, I only played EA past 20 with Stalkers.

    1) The power accepts taunt enhancements now.

    2) You know those police mobs on Praetoria that attack you only if you attack them first? Well I aggroed them just walking past them. To test it further, I turned Entropic Aura (yes it's not called Entropy Shield anymore) off and went to one of these mobs, I stood among them for 2 minutes, nobody attacked me. The moment I turned on Entropic, they all started attacking me.

Edit: 3) Duoed with a corr, and the Taunt aura is pretty strong - I was grabbing aggro from mobs just walking past them while they were burning from the corr's fire ammo DoT, so it seems like a good aura, not a meh one like Willpower, and I didn't have any issue holding the aggro even tho my Brute only attacked one target at a time (I just got Whirling Mace so the time I dou'ed I was ST only) and the corr was using his wimpy AoEs (dual pistols ya know) so he was damaging everyone all the time. Of course that led to much faceplanting because well, defense sets On DOs... Energize at level 35 is way too far.

Not really because it's a Knockdown proc so so mobs don't go flying around, they just fall but now I believe you, it was just a KB/KD confusion.
  11. Kioshi

    Plant vs. Earth

Both primaries work well if you don't wanna be in melee, both offer great control and mitigation, Earth a bit more on the hard controls, but Plant has the sweet confusion (and Carrion Creepers for damage). Earth's pet is better, it's tanky and does more damage than Plant's.

IMO the only secondary that is 100% suitable from range is fire. Energy can be made ranged too but you'll have no AoE (since you'd skip Whirling Hands). Ok Elec assault maybe... But I'd never make a ranged /elec because the melee attacks are so good.

I have an Earth/Fire and due to the ranged nature of Earth I decided to avoid melee, so I skipped Incinerate and Combustion, although Incinerate is a great power it was my only melee one so I respecced out of it since most times I didn't feel like going close just to use that power.

That said, if you've never played Doms, don't think they are like controllers, they are awesome in melee, my permadom Ice/Psi lived in melee her entire career (I shelved her, played too much), as did my Plant/Thorns. I'm playing a ranged one for variety, not because Doms are 'afraid' of melee.

I don't think so, my Broot lives in the AE except for doing trials. I spent a good amount of time with tickets or just chatting in channels because farms bore me, and it's always empty except for fire armors (and other farmers but fire armor reign there).

That's the Cap Au Diablo AE, the most crowded one. Of course the Freedom Atlas Park one is worse and there's farm broadcast all the time, and I don't have many heroes on Virtue so I can't say if the AP one is like that, I can only say there's not a lot of broadcast on AP, but otoh on the 'old days' Freedom was always full of farm broadcast in PI, Virtue almost nothing but they did farm a lot - I guess broadcasting is a Freedom thing from what I've seen, and most people who move from other servers to Freedom get annoyed with that (I don't because I started there so I got used to).
  15. Having 11.6% defense to all won't really help you, either go at least for 32.5% s/l or melee or whatever you like (I prefer s/l/e) so you can softcap with a small purple or forget about defense.
Also, do you realize this is like a 10 billion build? You can achieve close to it without PvP sets, and purples aren't exactly cheap.

    What I see wrong is:
    - You have one 6.25% recharge bonus in excess.
    - Drain Psyche lacks accuracy - I use 1 acc + 5 doctored wounds, some people like the accurate healing sets but they give no recharge.
    - I find Spirit Tree subpar unless it's stacked with another or a Triage Beacon, but if you like it, it deserves at least max Heal slotting.

Can't help you with Creeper slotting because my Plant Dom is kinda shelved with SOs at her 40s and the new one is a lowbie.

Btw a good proc to put in Fly Trap is the Achiles Heel -res one.

I totally agree, I made a SS/Fire Broot in Virtue thinking the AE there would be full of people talking and RPing like in the server's Pocket D, but there were only /Fire Armor toons and lowbies!

Then of course I went thru two days of self-PLing to get my Broot to 50, and when he hit 50 I started receiving tells asking for farms, cmon the guy wasn't even all Incarnatey and stuff!

    Leave my farmer alone!

(The only thing worse was long ago on Freedom when my Fire/Kin hit 50 - I actually leveled him the hard way and barely farmed with him because I had a lot of ingame friends playing and calling me all the time for TFs, but I got tells asking for farms no matter the zone I was because I intelligently named him 'Yet Another Fire Kin' )

  18. Oh yeah as I said, Fearsome Stare is a level 12 pick. I put it late in my build because I forgot about it. You could move Boxing to 18 and P. Gaze to 35, I put it there for the sets, I never found much use for it, you have so many good tools, plus you won't need a hold early on with Fearsome Stare's great radius and range. It can be useful in the build I made because you can stack it with Web Cocoon for bosses, but you picked another mastery so it's kind of 'meh' imo, but maybe you like using it, I don't.

As Doomguide said, Kismet is bad in Vengeance. My bad also because I put it there, I usually put it in Combat Jumping, it was kind of an afterthough 'damn I can't put more lotgs lemme put a kismet here then. Damn headache didn't make me think good lol.

I'm not sure if I would softcap either, but it sounded like a fun exercise. I don't have an IOed Dark/Dark, just an old SOed one I shelved. And except for the LoTGs, I found it surprising I could get so much rech and still softcap kinda 'on the cheap'. I think it could pseudotank the ITF with the over the cap defs and all the to-hit this combo provides.

Oh btw, look up Silas' guides, they're kinda current and in his guides there is one for every support set.

EDIT: found the guides - http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=196722

    Might buy a mac!

Well the Mac client sucks here. When I started playin CoX there was no Mac client so I used winXP, and when the client was released there was no support for my Intel GMA 950 and the gfx were all weird, that's ok, I expected that.

Now that I have a 27' iMac with a 6990 ATI Radeon, I decided to test the Mac client. It crashed thrice in three hours. After that I rebooted into Win7 and had two play sessions of about 8 hours each, no freezes, no lockups. The mac client runs well here but it crashes all the time for me.

I'm running Lion, and maybe the fact that I have most gfx settings at the max may have to do with the crashes, but the same settings don't make my windows client crash. That's bothersome because while I would have win7 on my machine anyway (some programs I use once in while, plus now I can run modern games with good gfx that are only available on Windows), it bothers me because it makes me stay in Windows the whole week when I'm in the mood or have time to play CoX a lot. I like Win7, I like it a lot, but well.. The main reason I spent more on an iMac is the OS.

Anyway, it might be worth it, because the macbook pro is a great machine and even the nerdiest sites (like anandtech in their review) can't figure out why their battery lasts longer than other notebooks - note that this is on OS X, on Windows it's 'just like other laptops' according to the charts in their review, Apple only put the optimized switching from the Intel to the AMD Radeon GPU on OS X, although even the Intel GPU-only macbook pros have better battery life on OS X, blowing every other notebook out of the water (at least the reviews say that, I don't have one), than Windows where according to them it's regular.
  21. So, how is it? I'm 9 levels away from having access to it on my corr, but nobody seems to talk about the new Poison Trap.

A forumite fella said it was still lackluster, drained almost no end, almost never held, but he also said he played it only during beta and there were patches that buffed it later but he didn't test it.

    Anyone?

    Thanks!

Oh hell yeah. While I prefer Empathy in controllers to defenders (the difference in buffing numbers isn't big like other sets, and controllers can, well, control and later do good damage, I like mind/ for the early ST attack chain too), /emp trollers are so busy that I never wanna play one again, I bound half my keyboard on her lol - my fire/kin is way less trouble even when SB was not AoE. At least with the corr you just have to watch your teammates and blast

IIRC only accuracy bonuses count. Aim, yellow insps, etc all affect Nemesis Staff and Sands of Mu and the others, damage insps and the damage part of Aim/Bu have no effect. I'm pretty sure recharge bonuses don't affect but by the time I have them I'm not using vet powers (at least sands, I just got the nem staff ).

Anyway if I'm right and recharge doesn't affect it, you can't use it like Force Bolt even with a kin around you.

Btw, I like having a bubbler from 1 to 50, I don't usually softcap my toons except the defense based ones and my old fire/kin farmer. On my mind/emp for example who has a purpled build, but for recharge so I can buff and control more often, I welcome FF'ers. I think the problem is that I find the set too boring to play, and like Sonic, many people find that also, and that may be why they're not common, more than 'end game efficiency' or whatnot. Remember most players don't come to the forums and a lot use SOs/common IOs only at 50 so they wouldn't care about the set becoming less useful in incarnatey stuff as long as it's fun. Dual Pistols is terribad imo, but it's fun, so I play it. Peacebringers were worse than terribad imo, but I always found them entertaining, so I'm giving them another shot after the recent buff.

  25. Ouch, I hate the build above. Twilight Grasp very poorly slotted, Tentacles poorly slotted for damage.

This build caps s/l/e using Scorpion Shield, you can do it without it but you won't manage to get almost permahasten levels of recharge like this without resorting to purples I suppose. Problem is, it still has room for 3 powers and has no extra slots left (actually not a big problem, I already took all the powers I like in both combos and kept your Flight).

This build also has a good 33% ranged, putting you at 1 small luck from softcap.

Btw I'd put Fearsome Stare at 12, it's at 35 because I forgot about it (headache):

EDIT: headache over lol, so edited the build because I'm a n00b and put the kismet in Vengeance, also to fix Fearsome's placement and I like recharge on Howling Twilight due to -regen so I took one slot from Stamina:
